After decades of being the Illinois Speaker of the House, Michael Madigan (D-Chicago), the longest serving House speaker in the country, failed to receive enough votes to get re-elected. Taking his spot is Emanuel "Chris" Welch (D-Hillside), whom Madigan eventually voted for. Madigan faced mounting opposition, even within his own party, after federal prosecutors fined electric utility company ComEd $200 million last year for a scheme including bribes in the form of no-show jobs and contracts to associates of “Public Official A,” who is widely understood to be Madigan.

On December 30th, 2020, Argentina's legislature, with the support of President Alberto Fernandez, officially made abortion legal. After 12 hours of debate, the bill passed 38-29 — with one abstention — and allows abortion up to 14 weeks of pregnancy, or later if it threatens the woman’s life or was the result of rape. Afterwards, huge crowds of women outside the Senate celebrated, cheered, and cried after getting word of the news. Should this really be celebrated or is it a sign about our current society?

President Trump needs to pardon the following people immediately. They are, Edward Snowden, Julian Assange, Ross Ulbricht, and Kevin Trudeau. To provide some background, Edward Snowden was a former NSA employee who leaked documents related to the agency's spying programs, which eventually revealed that the NSA does indeed spy on all Americans. Julian Assange is an activist and the founder of WikiLeaks, a website that "publishes documents of political or historical importance that are censored or otherwise suppressed." Ross Ulbricht is the creator of a dark web market site, known as Silk Road (now shut down by federal authorities). Ulbricht is currently serving 2 life sentences plus 40 years without parole in prison. Kevin Trudeau is an author, best known for books like 'Natural Cures "They" Don't Want You To Know About'. Trudeau is serving a 10 year prison sentence for contempt of court, and was fined $37 million by the FTC for making "unsubstantiated" claims in his books.

In this episode, Detective Antonio Dawson is investigating a call about gang members in the neighborhood who are entering businesses asking for "protection money." When the store owner shows his gun to the detective, he gets alarmed and eventually tells him to "leave that at home" and let them take care of the situation. Ironically later in the episode, the same store owner was killed by the gang and found dead inside.
