Twins, telepathy and the brain.
Professor Emeritus Richard Silberstein – Director of Neuro-Insight (Melbourne, Australia)
Richard will describe findings from a recent Melbourne study undertaken to examine changes in brain Functional Connectivity (FC) associated with possible anomalous interactions between sensorily isolated identical (monozygotic) twins. Five set of female twins served as participants where one twin (‘sender’) passively viewed 100 images presented at random successive intervals while their sister (‘receiver’) viewed a static image in another room. It was hypothesized that if the twins were to demonstrate anomalous interactions, then the ‘receiver’ FC will exhibit statistically significant changes only when their FC estimates are based on the ‘sender’ image appearance times. It was observed that FC changes were consistent with the hypothesis in 11 of the 38 recording sessions. The significance of the findings as well as the problems encountered will be discussed.
Richard Silberstein holds the title of Professor Emeritus at Swinburne University of Technology. He is the founder and Chief Scientist of Neuro-Insight Pty, a consumer neuroscience company operating in Melbourne, London and New York. Richard holds a Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of Melbourne and a BSc (Hon) majoring in physics from Monash University. He has over 35 years of neuroscience research experience and is the originator of the Steady State Topography (SST) brain imaging methodology. He has authored and co-authored numerous publications in various areas of cognitive and clinical neuroscience as well as consumer neuroscience. Carmel Bell died and came back to life four times, also known as a Near-Death-Experience (NDE). The fourth time was particularly long. Joyce and Alex conducted a controlled experiment to see if an Out-Of-Body-Experience (OBEs) can be induced by hypnosis. The research, funded by the AIPR, was titled: The efficacy of hypnOBEs in producing veridical psi experiences: A replication study. The study also aimed to obtain evidence of the OBE by asking the participants to identify a target. We explored the questions: Can the hit rates be increased through practice; and are there pre-existing factors which could enhance the hit rates? Joyce and Alex will present the quantitative and qualitative findings.
Note from Joyce: I realised that I didn't answer the first question properly! So the answer is "yes," the design could have incorporated more than one rater for the results, to improve inter-rater reliability!

On 2nd January 2000 at 2.00am, Biker and Philosopher, Gareth Perrin, and his partner were walking around the Healesville Reservoir, in Victoria, Australia, when they saw a UFO light up the forest. Then they heard heavy footsteps, a body with large lungs, breathing behind them. When it walked past, Gareth saw what looked like a Yowie or Australian Bigfoot.
This is just one of many strange experiences which Gareth has witnessed in Australia and Wales. Many years later, due to health issues, Gareth decided it is time to share.
