Michael G Strickland - LIVE - "She'd Rather Be With Me" (Turtles cover) - Boss RC-20XL - El Chapultepec - Germantown, TN - 2016

Michael G Strickland - Guitar/Boss RC-20XL Loop Pedal/Vocals

She'd Rather Be With Me - Song by: Turtles

NOTE: This is one of four songs I've learned over the years by the great Turtles. I've followed them since "It Ain't Me Babe" (one of the four that I play). After they broke up I then followed Mark Volman & Howard Kaylan during their short stint with Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention - where they assumed the character roles as "Flo & Eddie" and then after they left that group to form their band Flo & Eddie ..and beyond. Howard's one and only book is also among my collection!

BTW: Thumbnail is of my only granddaughter (at present) at age 1 1/2. She's a grown up lil lady now at age 3. ;)

Recorded LIVE at: El Chapultepec - Germantown, TN - 2016

** If you were wondering how one guy with just a guitar & a few effects pedals can get all those different sounds while playing solo - here's a list of equipment I'm currently using.

FYI: I recently upgraded to color coded mic & Guitar cables. I find it's helping me avoid the dreaded end of night "cable spaghetti" confusion due to the fact that all black mic cables look the same & typically guitar cable(s) & P.A. cables are also generally black.

Add to that equation almost everyone that sits in with me also brings either a mic cable or guitar cable - or both.

MICHAEL G STRICKLAND

TIME TO MOVE ON
TAKE ANOTHER STEP
SEE WHAT’S ON
THE OTHER SIDE
TAKE THE PLUNGE
HIT THE HIGH ROAD
IT’S JUST BLISS
DISGUISED AS SUICIDE

TAKE CONTROL
GIVE A DAMN
DON’T GIVE IN
HAVE A PLAN
HAVE A HEART
USE YOUR HEAD
MORE GETS DONE
WHEN LESS IS SAID

DO WHAT YOU WANT
DO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
DO WHAT YOU KNOW IS RIGHT
DO WHAT YOU DO
UNTIL LIFE IS THRU WITH YOU

DO WHAT YOU WANT
DO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
DO WHAT YOU KNOW IS RIGHT
DO WHAT YOU DO
UNTIL LIFE IS THRU WITH YOU

TIME TO MOVE ON

DO WHAT YOU WANT
DO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
DO WHAT YOU KNOW IS RIGHT
DO WHAT YOU DO
UNTIL LIFE IS THRU WITH YOU

TIME TO MOVE ON

YOU DON'T KNOW ME
I CAN TELL
MMM MICHELLE

IS THERE SOMETHING
WE CAN DO
IS IT ME OR YOU
MMM MICHELLE

I CAN HARDLY BREATHE LORD
YOU TAKE MY BREATH AWAY

AND THAT'S WHY
I DON'T KNOW YOU
CAN'T YOU TELL
MMM MMM
MMM MICHELLE

NOW YOU DON'T KNOW ME
CAN'T YOU TELL
MMM MICHELLE

I'M SURE THERE'S
SOMETHING WE CAN DO
IF YOU EVER WANT ME TOO
MMM MICHELLE

CAUSE NOW THAT YOU'RE HERE
I JUST RUN OUT OF
THINGS TO SAY

AND THAT'S WHY
YOU DON'T KNOW ME
CAN'T YOU TELL
MMM MMM
MMM MICHELLE

IT'S NOT LIKE WE LIVE
ON DIFFERENT PLANETS
THOUGH SOMETIMES IT FEELS
THE SAME TO ME

MMM

I DON'T KNOW YOU
LIKE I WANT TO
CAN'T YOU TELL
MMM MICHELLE

NOW I DON'T KNOW YOU
LIKE I WANT TO
CAN'T YOU TELL
MICHELLE
MICHELLE

CAUSE NOW THAT YOU'RE HERE
I'VE JUST RUN OUT OF
THINGS TO SAY

DOWN ON ME © 01-30-2006
MICHAEL G STRICKLAND

I CAN SEE DARK CLOUDS
ROLLING IN AGAIN
IT’S STARTED RAINING AGAIN
DOWN ON ME

I CAN’T KNOW THE TIME
IT’S ALL TO END AGAIN
IT’S STILL POURING WITHOUT END
DOWN ON ME

FIFTY-FIFTY CHANCE
THE SUN WON’T SHINE
DOWN ON ME

ALL THIS LIGHTNING
ALL THIS THUNDER
ALL THIS GOTTA
MAKE ME WONDER

WHY YOU’RE MAKING
ALL THIS BAD WEATHER
ROLL IN AGAIN
WHY ARE YOU SO DOWN
DOWN ON ME

FIFTY-FIFTY CHANCE
THE SUN WON’T SHINE
DOWN ON ME

ALL THIS LIGHTNING
ALL THIS THUNDER
ALL THIS GOTTA
MAKE ME WONDER

I CAN SEE DARK CLOUDS
ROLLING IN AGAIN
IT’S STARTED RAINING AGAIN
DOWN ON ME

ALL THIS BAD WEATHER’S
ROLLING IN AGAIN
WHY ARE YOU SO DOWN

Michael G Strickland - Lonely Street Duo - Jim Pinkston & Keith Gilliam - "Sledgehammer" (Peter Gabriel cover) - Ramada Inn - Greenwood, MS - November 1, 1986

* The Band

Michael G Strickland - Guitar/Vocals
Jim Pinkston - Bass/Vocals
Keith Gilliam - Drums - Special Guest Drummer

* The Song

Sledgehammer - Michael sings - Song by: Peter Gabriel

* Occasionally Lonely Street Duo wasn't always a duo. For this particular contract we were hired as a full 3 piece band (no programmed drums). Keith Gilliam assumed the role of drummer for this gig.

Keith & I have been friends since mid to late '70s when I met him through Wayne (now "Travis") Whitten (R.I.P. Feb 15, 2018). They (Wayne & Keith) were band-mates from High School. Even though I'd recorded/jammed/partied with Keith.. this was our first & only gig we ever played together. I don't know if Keith still performs.. as he works a "real" job (Boyle Investments) these days. ;)

The lone picture of Keith and me standing together is the only picture I have of him. All other pictures are of/for The Lonely Street Duo.

FYI: This was a Christmas Party that Buddy Davis booked ..hence the Buddy Davis Band. ALL members except for Buddy Church (R.I.P.) had played in my band at one time or the other. Buddy Church played on 3 tracks on one of my CDs.. so we certainly weren't musical strangers! lol

MICHAEL G STRICKLAND

I TELL YOU LIES CAUSE YOU DON’T LIKE THE TRUTH
I COMPROMISE EVERY SIMPLE THINGS I DO

I’D HATE TO THINK I MISSED THE CALL
WHILE I WAS LOOKING FOR A
SOFT PLACE TO FALL

IT’S IN YOUR EYES YOU THINK I’M ALWAYS TO BLAME
THE ALIBIS SOME THINGS WILL NEVER CHANGE

I’D HATE TO THINK YOU MISSED THE CALL
WHILE YOU WERE LOOKING FOR A
SOFT PLACE TO FALL

WE’VE LOST THIS BATTLE
BEFORE WE START THE WAR
HOW DO WE COME TO THIS
WHERE'S OUR FOREVERMORE

I TELL YOU LIES CAUSE YOU DON’T LIKE THE TRUTH
YOU CRITICIZE EVERY SINGLE THING I DO

I’D HATE TO THINK I MISSED THE CALL
I’M JUST LOOKING FOR A
SOFT PLACE TO FALL

WE’VE LOST THIS BATTLE
BEFORE WE START THE WAR
HOW DO WE COME TO THIS
WHERE'S OUR FOREVERMORE

IT’S IN YOUR EYES YOU THINK I’M ALWAYS TO BLAME
THE ALIBIS SOME THINGS WILL NEVER CHANGE

I’D HATE TO THINK WE MISSED THE CALL

LOOKING FOR A SOFT PLACE TO FALL
LOOKING FOR A SOFT PLACE TO FALL
LOOKING FOR A SOFT PLACE
WE ALL NEED A SOFT PLACE TO FALL
