The Flying Club Cup is the second studio album by Balkan folk-influenced indie folk band Beirut, released on October 9, 2007 on 4AD Records.

Condon said about the name and inspiration for the album: "Back in the early 1900s...there used to be this hot air balloon festival in Paris—[the album's] titled after that and after this very bizarre 1910 photo I found [by Léon Gimpel]. It's one of the first color photos ever made, at the World's Fair, and it...shows all these ancient hot air balloons about to take off in the middle of Paris. I just thought it was the most surreal image I'd seen in a long time." He also said about the album sound: "I was listening to a lot of Jacques Brel and French chanson music—pop songs shrouded in big, glorious, over-the-top arrangements and all this drama—and that was in some sense unfamiliar territory to me. So I started buying new instruments and relying on things I wasn't necessarily comfortable with, like French horns and euphoniums, carrying these big, epic big brass parts that I used to do all on trumpets, and working with accordion and organ instead of all ukulele—very much throwing myself in the world of classical pop music, I guess you could say."

9 Port Of Call 28:50

The Rip Tide is the third studio album by the American indie folk band Beirut, released in August 30, 2011.

Beirut's Zach Condon decided to write the album after a rough tour in Brazil, where he suffered a perforated eardrum and was involved in a stage invasion. Unlike previous Beirut albums, The Rip Tide was more reflective of places closer to home; for example, the song "Santa Fe" was a homage to Condon's hometown. Condon reflected on that, saying "The vagabond thing – that was a teenage fantasy that I lived out in a big way. Music, to me, was escapism. And now I'm doing everything that is the opposite [of that] in my life. I'm married. I've got a house. I've got a dog. So it felt ridiculous, the narrative of what my career was supposed to be, compared to what I was actually trying to attempt in my life."

Influenced by the recording of For Emma, Forever Ago, Condon wrote The Rip Tide while he spent six months in isolation living in a Bethel, New York winter cabin. Unlike Beirut's previous albums, the music was recorded as a band playing together instead of laying down individual tracks one at a time. However, the lyrics were only added by Condon after all the music had been recorded.

A portal to a dimension, filled with smoky bars lit red like blood, and bedrooms with full ashtrays and blackout curtains. Sonically, it's a sinewy blend of post-punk; a distillation of messrs. cave, howard, gira, and morricone giving way to small respites in the form of lush, loop-based soundscapes. The lyrics read like a southern gothic novel, each song building on, and referencing the ones that came before, dragging you into the grimy underbelly of this world, that the sun never shines upon

It sees the band take a different approach to their tightly woven concept albums from the 00's, creating a less rigidly themed, reactionary record that struggles with existentialism, nihilistic despair and an oncoming dystopia that feels eerily near at hand.

For the first time since 2006’s Happy Hollow, the album reunites Tim Kasher, guitarist/singer Ted Stevens and bassist Matt Maginn with founding drummer Clint Schnase, as well as co-producer Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, M. Ward, Jenny Lewis) to deliver a cathartic record full of richly melodic, scream-along anthems.

Frankie and the Witch Fingers
Published on Feb 28, 2018
Video by: Astral Violet

For their first release with Let’s Pretend Records, Frankie & the Witch Fingers have conjured a two headed beast of a 7” that embodies the atmosphere of electric energy that surrounds the LA four-piece.

On side A, “Drip” oozes out of the speakers and sticks all up in the insides of your ears. The drums burst, the bass bubbles, and the fuzz-soaked melody plunges to the depths of your soul and awakens the fringes of your mind.

The B-side, “Tea” is a sweet elixir of rock n’ roll euphoria that pulls you up off your feet with a haunted stampede boogie--brewing up a wild ride on a twisted groove with classic hooks and roaring guitars.

Both tunes shake and rattle with the anticipation of chaos that captures the madness and vibrations of the band’s electric live sound.

This hot wax drops May 18 with a limited run of 300 pressed on lavender vinyl.

Written, arranged, and performed by Reznor, Nine Inch Nails' first album Pretty Hate Machine debuted in 1989. It marked his first collaboration with Adrian Sherwood (who produced the lead single "Down in It" in London without meeting Reznor face-to-face and Mark "Flood" Ellis. Reznor asked Sean Beavan to mix the demos of Pretty Hate Machine, which had received multiple offers for record deals. He mixed sound during Nine Inch Nails' live concerts for several years, eventually becoming an unofficial member of the live band and singing live backup vocals from his place at the mixing console.Flood's production would appear on each major Nine Inch Nails release until 1994, and Sherwood has made remixes for the band as recently as 2000. Reznor and his co-producers expanded upon the Right Track Studio demos by adding singles "Head Like a Hole" and "Sin". Rolling Stone's Michael Azerrad described the album as "industrial-strength noise over a pop framework" and "harrowing but catchy music"; Reznor proclaimed this combination "a sincere statement" of "what was in [his] head at the time". In fact, the song "Down in It" spent over two months on Billboard's club-play dance chart. After spending 113 weeks on the Billboard 200, Pretty Hate Machine became one of the first independently released records to attain platinum certification.

“Black Cat Heavy Metal” is heavy on the bass, light on the drums and delivers a retro sound that you have to clap along to. The video for the tune syncs perfectly with the chill vibe. In the video, you’ll catch the band party hopping and enjoying good times with friends.

Although the bass and drums sound great on the song, guitarist Patrick Stewart also deserves appreciation. Towards the end of the song, Patrick delivers a noisy yet gentle guitar solo that compliments the ’70s vibe the song had given off since the start. The guitar solo gives “Black Cat Heavy Metal” the something it didn’t even know it needed.

The frontman of Dan Luke & The Raid is Dan Shultz. Does that last name ring a bell? Rock n’ roll clearly flows through Dan’s blood as he’s the little brother of Matt and Brad Shultz of Cage The Elephant.

Along with obvious praise from Cage The Elephant, a slew of other bands have taken note of the debut single. FIDLAR, Grouplove and Portugal. The Man all took to Twitter to share the song and praise the band. No big deal, right?

Song Lyrics:
I’m the world weekly news bat child, B-lining ash pile to ash pile to ash pile, for every ghost climbing out the flat-file, every gaffe, every lone spaz in the snack aisle, cracked out, don't touch that dial ever, these trap doors forecast quagmire weather, but it's worth it, from cobras out to kiss him on the cheek to snatching victory from out the jaws of imminent defeat, the phone ping from a pillow fort in a corn maze, I don't have a horse in your war games, I don't even really like horses, I like wild orchids and neighbors with wide orbits, electric fence, and pets that tend to pretty much ignore us, we head-butt in the mornings, then report to separate corners, criminy, you're killing me, Smalls, the fist balls up, I pull my hood down, I got some walls up.
Walls up, I keep my coat on I got some walls up, chips down walls up, I cut the lights off.
Everyday I wake up in a gallon of sweat, puke blood, hit the shower, turn to Malibu Ken, while you were asking all your lackeys “Are we jackals or men?” I been the sorcery authority should catch if they can, mostly a master of none, come try the coffee it's burned, he type a chapter, it sucks, top of the moth-eaten world, pick a one horse town, 4 horsemen got his number, I feed each one the others camouflaged in Fluffernutters, the million dollar freeze jazz speak in a secret garden, some people think it's freakish but they can't deny the harvest, it's funny when they're later made to celebrate the shit they said was garbage, it only show the city who the mark is, are we Donatello's David or delicate Frozen Charlottes? Even Davids know in art there often will be no catharsis, the voices in my head still talk tough, I go to bed stoned, I got some walls up.
In a lavish, rabbit hole with no rabbits, young, dumb dust-bunnies jump into traffic, casually gussied up and done feeling unsung and savage, punk, we have come for your cabbage, I’m bad news travel like a rat through your cabinets, spaz, 20 paw pads full of scabs, off in a false ad, fall plaid all dander, blast off, black jackdaws on his antlers, zero-faithers, warily fear his neighbors, someday we'll find a way to make these billionaires obey us, someday we'll earn a subdivision gaudier than “reprobates”, who sit around depressed and guess the order of the Tetris rain, with biblical misreckoning, son of surly Satan torn asunder, private number, public urination, we socialize with pundits who encompass all the wrong stuff, I count the bread quick, I got some walls up.

Dec. 5, 2018 | Abby O'Neill -- The Wu-Tang Clan gathered at the Tiny Desk to commemorate the 25 years since the release of the group's landmark album Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). With more than 60 albums between the various members, The Clan's combined discography left them spoiled for choice when it came to narrowing down the set list for their performance. The result was an extended, 20-minute medley of songs from across the group's iconic catalog.

The retrospective mashup of Wu classics started with the posse cut "Triumph." Backed by strings (The Green Project), the performance morphed into an old-school cipher as Raekwon, Inspectah Deck and Cappadonna traded verses with Masta Killa and U-God. Young Dirty Bastard, son of original member Ol' Dirty Bastard, provided a spark of energy reminiscent of his father.

At one moment in the performance, RZA — the mastermind behind the Clan's success — omits some explicit lyrics from earlier in his Wu journey, while alluding to the #MeToo movement mid-cadence. But it's the poetic interlude, read from his phone at the close of the set, that better reflects his current state of consciousness. "Wu-Tang is for the kids!" RZA proclaims. The core of the group began as childhood pals in Staten Island in the early '90s, when the crew's creative philosophy was influenced by everything from Saturday afternoon kung-fu flicks to the spiritual wisdom of the Five-Percent Nation. As they've matured, Raekwon still describes the Wu as "superfriends." They've allowed each other to grow and form various offshoots in recent years. But when the Wu-Tang Clan comes together, they still bring a love for the culture and for their brotherhood.
