Incidental Music offers insistent, driving, pulsing rhythms across long songs. Marching synthesisers move those songs along, picking up the pace and tying it all together. There are wails of guitar, a high, slightly quavering lead voice and a sense that this is psychedelia reconfigured for modern times: anxious, not beatific. It is, to be frank, not a million miles from what Hookworms were doing before their split.

Heaven Surrounds You is a coming of age epic, inspired by the many cult films Surf Curse has cherished through out their young adulthood that are referenced across the album’s tracklist. Surf Curse’s songwriting and instrumental orchestration has matured on their third full length LP, adding layers of polish to their traditionally rough and visceral sound. Rattigan and Rubeck worked with veteran indie producer Jarvis Taveniere, carefully crafting their most lush and vulnerable record to date, during the fall of 2018. Heaven Surrounds You, satisfies the energy and passion that old fans would expect from a Surf Curse record, but expands the band’s songwriting to envelope new audiences into their cinematic sound.

Their sixth album, ‘Metronomy Forever’, however, taps back into ‘Nights Out’ chaotic energy, but observes lovingly from a distance for a collection that is both mature and playful, but never abandons the other. Despite the range of funk-heavy dance tracks makes up its skeleton, the album feels patient and nostalgic. For each strobe-lit high there’s a comedown that follows the morning after.

On Antisocialites, Alvvays dive back into the deep-end of reckless romance and altered dates. Ice cream truck jangle collides with prismatic noise pop while Molly Rankin's wit is refracted through crystalline surf counterpoint. Through thoughtful consideration in basement and abroad, the Toronto-based group has renewed its Scot-pop vows with a powerful new collection of manic emotional collage.
According to frontwoman Molly Rankin, Antisocialites was recorded using a combination of Pro Tools and a TASCAM 488 8-track recorder.

Ghost Funk Orchestra are a mystery. Plain and simple. Dirty, soulful production, verbed and fuzzed out guitars, mysterious vocals that feel like a lost score to a Quentin Tarantino film. The brainchild of one-man producer/musician/arranger Seth Applebaum, GFO is forging new territory and blurring the line between soul and psychedelic. The debut LP is out August 23, 2019.

"Brand New Key" is a pop song written and sung by folk music singer Melanie. Initially a track of Melanie's album Gather Me, produced by Melanie's husband Peter Schekeryk, it was known also as "The Rollerskate Song" due to its chorus.
The song is sung from the viewpoint of a girl with roller skates trying to attract the attention of a boy.

Mos Dub is a mashup album of Mos Def and various classic reggae samples that was mixed and produced by New York producer Max Tannone.
Editing tracks from popular dub music, like King Tubby, Lee Perry, Scientist, The Slickers, Johnny Osbourne, Big Youth and Dawn Penn, and laying the a cappella tracks from Mos Def, Tannone has created a unique atmosphere where both Brooklyn Hip hop and Jamaican reggae have been mixed seamlessly. The tracks have been described, in a positive way, as not sounding like part of a mashup, and Mos Def's raps as fitting over the music naturally.
Mos Dub was released as a free download on April 6, 2010, off of the official Mos Dub website. There is also an unofficial vinyl release of the album.

Canyonland is a conceptual album that revolves around Henry Canyons' journey to Los Angeles, his struggle to adjust to a new life there, his coming to terms and attempts to keep a solid connection with his identity as a "half-French, Jewish Brooklynite" that has been transplanted into a place that is wildly different from what he was used to. It also outlines his efforts to solidify his personal and professional spheres, his romantic ups and downs and his perspective on Los Angeles life in general. Musically-speaking, this album is a much smoother ride than the topic itself betrays. Henry's baritone voice glides effortlessly over a beautiful, West-Coast boom-bap backdrop (produced by Keor Meteor), riding the tempo with technically proficient flow and great lyrics. Zoe Rose, a very talented, jazzy and soulful singer/songrwiter, makes several appearances throughout, lending her silky-smooth voice to many of the choruses. Freddy Jay provides some funky vinyl cuts on others. Open Mike Eagle also makes an appearance, lending a great guest-verse. Overall, Canyonland is a great album for both casual listeners who want something they can easily throw on in the car for a relaxing listen or more hardcore listeners who like to dig into the lyrics and think about what a rapper is conveying.

The album follows a narrative of a love triangle where Tyler is seeing a person who is at the same time still seeing his ex-girlfriend, who's pulling him back to her and away from Tyler. American comedian Jerrod Carmichael serves as the album's narrator as it progresses, speaking short lines to make sense of Tyler's and the title character Igor's state of mind. Carmichael first appears on the album's fourth track "Exactly What You Run from You End Up Chasing"

IGOR sounds like the work of a perfectionist giving shape to his more radical ideas. Tyler, who proudly produced, wrote, and arranged the album, is singing more but he’s not worrying whether his tracks have a traditional pop arc. Songs don’t build to a crescendo, they often begin there. The opening “IGOR’S THEME” serves less as a guiding force and more like a recurring motif of doom that hides in the shadows and pops its head in at select moments, like on “NEW MAGIC WAND” where spooky synths erupt below Tyler’s thought process.

Bill Eberle performs "Soft" - Live at County Q Productions

"Soft was a song that, when I wrote it, kind of set the tone for the rest of the record. I felt surrounded by so much masculine energy in the world, which felt so harmful and unproductive. I don't really think about what I'm writing totally consciously when I write it, but when "Soft" came out, I felt a spark that let me know I was headed in a direction I wanted to be headed in. Right now, we're 5 white dudes singing a song about making our bodies and love soft. It feels like I good way to make ourselves vulnerable enough to really engage with others." - Bill Eberle

The new single "Celebrity Reduction Prayer (feat. Open Mike Eagle)" produced by Oddisee is a highlight of the album "Persona." Open Mike slays the American passtime of idol worship, breaking down the celebrities that too many place on pedestals - reminding us all of our humanity. The well crafted new track is both humorous and insightful - a glimpse into the upcoming Persona compilaiton of all new material from the MMG Squad.

Flower Boy (alternatively titled Scum Fuck Flower Boy) is the fourth studio album by American rapper Tyler, the Creator. With Flower Boy, Tyler decided to take a more personal approach compared to his previous album.
Tyler’s course-correction, surprisingly meditative and beautifully colored, a collage of memories and daydreams that trades bratty subversion for reflection and self-improvement. He probes the things that shaped his psyche—loneliness, isolation, and disorientation—and focuses on outgrowing friendships, balancing the pull of nostalgia and the necessity for growth. Not only is Flower Boy Tyler’s most trenchant work, it’s his most inclusive: “Find Your Wings”: The Album, gentle and liberating. “Tell these black kids they can be who they are,” he raps on “Where This Flower Blooms,” as he grows into the artist he’s always longed to be, and perhaps always was.

of Montreal is an American indie pop band from Athens, Georgia. It was founded by frontman Kevin Barnes in 1996, named after a failed romance between Barnes and a woman "of Montreal." Barnes credits his being prescribed antidepressants with the making of the album. "The real issue was a chemical thing, so when I finally got on medication, that balanced it out. So that helped me have a better perspective on things and helped my relationship with my wife and helped me through [the album]."

Barnes has described the album as a concept album, detailing his transformation from Kevin Barnes into Georgie Fruit. Georgie Fruit exists as Kevin Barnes' alter ego, which he will assume for the final half of the album.

Hiding Places is a collaborative album from Brooklyn-based rapper billy woods and Los Angeles beat scene veteran Kenny Segal, set for release by Backwoodz Studioz on March 29, 2019. On its face, it seems an unlikely pairing; woods—who moonlights as ½ of dissonant rap duo Armand Hammer—is a chaotic force, the warped relic of an NY indie-rap wave that never happened. Meanwhile, Segal has been in L.A. for twenty years; from paying dues with Project Blowed to pushing the culture forward with Busdriver and Milo. All the while, his soulful, dreamlike production precariously tethered to earth by the right drums or rumbling bass.

But look closer and it makes more sense. After all, Segal lent his production to a couple of songs on Paraffin, Armand Hammer’s critically-acclaimed opus, and the two veterans have more than a few shared collaborators: Open Mike Eagle, ELUCID, and Hemlock Ernst amongst them. Hiding Places finds both artists deep in the labyrinth. Segal’s lush soundscapes have a new edge, woods’ writing is, paradoxically, at its most direct. Hiding Places is a child’s game: funny and cruel, as brutal as a fairy tale. The album features contributions from both artists’ well of collaborators with ELUCID, Self-Jupiter, and MOTHERMARY making appearances.

Cosmogramma is an intricate, challenging record that fuses his loves-- jazz, hip-hop, videogame sounds, IDM-- into something unique. It's an album in the truest sense. Jazz is a big influence on the record, and it's a good place to start talking about the individual sections that make up the whole.
