Abigail Olson’s life seemed to be falling apart. She was going through a tough time after her potential career and relationship fell through, on the exact same day (!), so she took a break from it all and started reading a lot. That down time led her to a book “Why Does He Do That” by Lundy Bancroft which helped her to realize some of the things she was experiencing in her relationship wasn’t the best thing for her. Abigail began writing down her painful moments to help sort out her feelings about her relationship and career path, which eventually led to her book “The Hay-Wagon”.

“The Hay-Wagon” is a young woman’s memoir about getting her CDL and going through her first serious relationship. It is a Next Generation Indie Book Award finalist in the Women’s Issues
(Non-Fiction) and Short Story Collections categories. The book was included on the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools’ 2020-2021 Books of Interest list for grades 9-12.

In this interview, Abigail and I discuss the success of her book, what she learned in the process and what life looks like going forward. We talk about giving yourself permission to find a way to empower yourself, even if it’s unconventional, about perseverance, and the importance of going after what is calling you in life.

About Abigail Olson: Abigail Olson’s The Hay-wagon is a 2021 Next Generation Indie Book Award finalist in the Women’s Issues (Non-Fiction) and Short Story Collections categories. The National Coalition of Girls’ Schools also included it on their Books of Interest list for parents and educators of grades 9-12. She has written an oped for The Richmond Times-Dispatch (2018) and a cover feature for Disclosures (2022), the magazine for the Virginia Society of CPAs. She currently works as a freelance writer. As the title implies, I got married this week! It’s been quite a journey for me and in this episode, I share what I learned along the way. Many, many years of failed relationships and feeling like I could never have the relationship I wanted led to years and years of negative stories in my head. I spent a lot of time working on myself to change those stories and get to where I am today.

Nothing that I’m going to tell you in this episode requires you to do anything crazy to go after your dreams.. In fact, you might even call it cliche (defined as: a trite, stereotyped expression; a sentence or phrase, usually expressing a popular or common thought or idea, that has lost originality, ingenuity, and impact by long overuse). But cliches are cliche for a reason and there is truth to them even if they have lost their originality and impact from overuse.

If you are looking for some inspiration to keep your dream alive and learn how to roll with the changes life brings, be sure to tune into this episode!

Brooke Siem was among the first generation of minors to be prescribed antidepressants. Initially diagnosed and treated in the wake of her father’s sudden death, this psychiatric intervention sent a message that something was pathologically wrong with her and that the only “fix” was medication. As a teenager, she stepped into the hazy world of antidepressants just at the time when she was forming the foundation of her identity. For the following fifteen years, every situation she faced was seen through the lens of brokenness.
A decade and a half later, still on the same cocktail of drugs, Brooke found herself hanging halfway out her Manhattan high-rise window, calculating the time it would take to hit the ground. As she looked for breaks in the pedestrian traffic patterns, a thought dawned on her: “I’ve spent half my life—and my entire adult life—on antidepressants. Who might I be without them?”
Unfurled against a global backdrop, May Cause Side Effects is the gripping story of what happened when, after fifteen years and 32,760 pills, Brooke was faced with a profound choice that plunged her into a year of excruciating antidepressant withdrawal and forced her to rebuild her entire life.
In this episode, Brooke shares her story of getting off antidepressants, what she learned along the way and how she was able to come out on the other side with a new story for herself. This book is an illuminating memoir for those who take, prescribe, or are considering psychiatric drugs, May Cause Side Effects is an honest reminder that the road to true happiness is not mapped on a prescription pad. Instead, Brooke’s story reveals the messy reality of how healing begins at the bottomless depth of our suffering, in the deep self-work that pushes us to the edges of who we are.
More About Brooke Siem: Brooke Siem is a writer, speaker, and advocate for the practice of safe de-prescribing for psychiatric drugs. Her debut memoir on antidepressant withdrawal, May Cause Side Effects is the long version of work that has appeared in the Washington Post, Psychology Today, and more. Her newsletter, “Happiness is a Skill”, is devoted to antidepressant withdrawal education, healing from depression, and the skill of happiness.

In addition to Brooke’s work in the world of mental health, she is an award-winning chef with over fifteen years in the industry. She co-founded New York City’s Prohibition Bakery in 2011, was named as one of Zagat’s 30 Under 30 in 2014, and was crowned a Food Network “Chopped” Champion in 2017. Though Prohibition Bakery is now closed, Brooke continues to work as a private chef for elite performers and conducts research & development for CPG startups.

When she’s not writing or cooking, she can be found in Nevada, lounging in the desert sun with her rescue mutt, Bellaroo. You can connect with Brooke at her website https://www.brookesiem.com/ and get your copy of May Cause Side Effects on Amazon and wherever books are sold.

Our pets offer amazing insights into ourselves, the world and life in general…..if we take the time to observe and see what they have to offer us! In this episode, I’m excited to have back one of my favorite guests, Dr. Erhard Vogel. Erhard and I are both animal lovers and in this episode, we touch on many different aspects of our pets and what they can teach us about life.

Erhard and I talk about our dogs, the lessons they teach us, the emotions our pets experience and so much more. I share some examples of what my own dog has taught me about happiness, forgiveness and letting things go. One of my favorite examples from my dog is that I take my dog for a walk every morning. One thing I do when we wake up is I tell him how much of an amazing day we are going to have and I review all the good things we are going to do for the day, or that he gets to eat, etc. That really helped me as I started looking at my own days and being more intentional with my mornings!

We also touch on dreams in this episode from a dog and human perspective. I share one of the recurring dreams I had for 20+ years and how I was finally able to understand what it meant and how running from it was more painful than just facing it. If you are an animal lover or considering getting a pet, you are really going to love this episode and all the insight it has to offer!

Do you feel the need to be perfect in every area of your life? Does your lack of self-acceptance keep you energetically drained most days of your life? If you have ever struggled with coming to a place of radical acceptance, then this episode is for you.

Joining me today is Caitlin Billings, author of the book In Our Blood. Caitlin thought she could neatly walk away from her past, until a hold-up at gunpoint breaks her carefully balanced world apart. Suddenly, Caitlin is trapped by frightening mental health issues while raising two young children. Part coming-of-age, part reckoning of motherhood, In Our Blood is a therapist’s honest account of professional and personal struggles and an intergenerational story of acceptance, self-love and fluidity.

In this episode, Caitlin and I talk about perfectionism, trauma and the path to healing. Caitlin shares her journey and I also touch on some of the things I have been through. We talk about the impact stories have on our path to healing, why we don’t have to feel the need to do it all and how we can build a practice of realistic skills to move towards self-acceptance.

More about the book, In Our Blood: From the author, Caitlin Billings “In Our Blood has been described as “raw, real, and naked before the world”. I’m a mother and a helping professional, two identities with pressure to be perfect, competent, and self-sacrificing. I’m pushing back and saying nope, that’s not real life. I’m sharing my personal account of understanding the meaning of radical acceptance not from an intellectual or spiritual practice perspective, but from the mouth of a messy, complicated survivor of the human experience.”

More about Caitlin Billings: Caitlin Billings lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her family. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has a thriving therapy practice specializing in complex trauma. She is working on her second book. You can connect with Caitlin at her website www.caitlinbillings.com and get your copy of In Our Blood on Amazon https://amzn.to/3S4gEgD and wherever books are sold.

I have an amazing interview in store for you this week! My guest for this episode is Jim Meade. Jim is an author, speaker and Transcendental Meditation (TM) teacher. Jim has written over 35 books and his books have sold more than 750,000 copies. Clever, funny, and lucid, Meade is a born writer who has sharpened his skills with his books and hundreds of articles. He has taught Transcendental Meditation to thousands in places ranging from his home LA to Tanzania, S. Korea, and Nepal.

We all know we are living in troubling times. We may not be able to change the world, but in his latest book, End Anxiety! Proven Benefits of the Transcendental Meditation® Program, Jim shows us how we can help ourselves. The problem is real and Jim offers an instant and lasting solution.

Jim was there in the mid-sixties when we were undergoing so much change as a society and there was a real surge in the TM movement. In this episode, Jim shares what TM is (and isn’t), more about how it started and what it’s like to look back and see how far TM has come.

Jim and I talk about how TM can help us in our day to day lives to reduce/eliminate feelings such as fear, anxiety, stress and depression. There is a lot of data showing the benefits of TM and Jim and I talk through this to really illustrate how TM helps those who practice it. By eliminating these lower emotions, we are able to free up space to be more creative and expansive in our lives.

You can connect with Jim at his website jamesgmeade.com and get started with Transcendental Meditation at tm.org. You can get your copy of End Anxiety! Proven Benefits of the Transcendental Meditation® Program on Amazon https://amzn.to/3dkyZa9 and wherever books are sold.

More about End Anxiety! Proven Benefits of the Transcendental Meditation® Program: These days current events are fraught with political animosity, global pandemic, warfare, gun violence, and economic insecurity. The troubling times that we live in leave us uncertain where we stand and in what direction we are going. So it is with good reason that anxiety levels have peaked and the affliction has extended to almost every segment of society—whether they like to admit it or not. We may not be able to change the world but End Anxiety!: Proven Benefits of the Transcendental Meditation® Program, by James Meade, PhD shows us how we can help ourselves. The problem is real, so what can we do about it? In End Anxiety!, James Meade offers an instant and lasting solution—the Transcendental Meditation® program, as taught by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. This may at first seem like a novel approach to the issue, but studies on the effects of Transcendental Meditation® on the mental states of its practitioners have been ongoing for over fifty years and the findings are conclusive: Transcendental Meditation can have a real and powerful positive impact on our mental health, especially in terms of mitigating anxiety, stress, and depression. I say it each week on the show, how when we learn how to change our thoughts, we can change our lives. Until we are willing to look at how we are thinking about things, our lives tend to just stay on autopilot. Experiencing the same unhappy results day after day and wondering why we can’t seem to have anything different.

The way we put ourselves back in the driver's seat of our life is to start taking control of how we are thinking about things. Believe it or not, we don’t have to believe everything we think and every thought we think isn’t true! I know that is hard to believe, but it is actually true. In this episode, I share some recent examples of how to focus on getting what I wanted and the amazing results I got in a short amount of time. I also share the next steps after getting what you want and how you can disarm those thoughts in your head that want to tell you you can’t keep what you got, you're not good enough for it, etc.

This episode is a real life look at choosing to focus on a preferred reality, some simple steps of how you can do that and then how to retrain your mind to keep what you wanted so you can thrive in that space. My intention with this episode is for you to feel empowered in your new reality and be able to enjoy your life to the fullest!

If you’d like some help with changing the script(s) in your mind, be sure to check out The B.S. Method - How To Tell a Better Story In 5 Minutes or Less. Every day you wake up and there is a script playing in your head. It’s been writing itself since the day you were born, and it’s influencing every decision you make on a subconscious level. Once you understand how these stories are subtly impacting every vital area of your life, you can finally change your subconscious to start building the lifestyle you want. The B.S. Method teaches you how to rewire your mind so you can start telling yourself better stories (in 5 minutes or less). The time is going to pass anyway, why not tell yourself a better story? Jerry Brook is the only author who did not write a book. After yet another failed relationship, he had finally decided that it was time to throw in the towel. He had failed again and not just subtly, but miserably.

After this failed relationship, Jerry threw himself into his work and began studying Artificial Intelligence. The question he had to ask was, “What is intelligence and what does it mean to be intelligent?” The short answer is decision making. That only led him to then ask, “What is the correct way to make decisions?” It was during learning about decision making that he had an epiphany, an aha moment.

Jerry discovered he was making bad decisions in his relationships based on incorrect information. He had asked for, and gotten advice from, family and friends alike. Jerry would even go as far as to read magazine articles from supposed experts on the topic. There is an old saying in the world of computers, “Garbage in, Garbage out” meaning if you start with, or input, unusable information, the computer will return unusable information. What’s more, he realized that was undoubtedly the same thing that his relationship partners were doing as well.

Jerry’s book, Good Together: A Journey Through Relationships, is a collection of the notes that he made to himself: what he did, what he didn’t do, and what he could have done better. Jerry also created an app, The Good Together Game, as an easy, actionable, way for people to forge better bonds and have better relationships.

Jerry and I cover so much in this interview! We talk about how to make better relationship decisions, why you need to define your needs vs. wants (which lead to your expectations), what a healthy relationship is (and isn’t) and how day-to-day interactions impact our relationships. Jerry explains why conventionial wisdom (or wis-dumb as he calls it) is flat out wrong and how you can start doing differently instead. There is life changing information awaiting you in this episode and Jerry explains it in such a clear and easy way. If you are looking to improve your romantic, business or personal relationships, do not miss this episode!

Most thoughtful people have questions like: what is the nature of reality? Why is there evil? Unfortunately, many of these people believe you have to have “blind faith” or trust some weird mystical approach in order to explore these questions from a religious perspective. My guest this week is Arthur Yavelberg, author of the book A Theology For The Rest Of Us and he offers a different view on these questions. In Arthur’s book and this conversation, he shows that is not the case; that religious responses to spiritual questions can be quite rational and even empowering.

Arthur has said he has thought about these issues for many years and he has come to realize that there are many religious traditions that can offer guidance in ways that do not require people to surrender their sense of reason. His motivation was to share this process so that people can use it to come to their own conclusions. A Theology For The Rest Of Us challenges people to be independent: to explore the various teachings but not necessarily to commit to any one of them.

In this episode, Arthur shares his journey of studying religion and spirituality and we touch on a wide range of subjects from free will, to the difference between beliefs in the East & West, how to be independent in your thinking without having to commit to just “one way” of doing things.

I absolutely loved Arthrur’s book and as I mentioned in this episode, it helped me understand where I could go next spiritually after being turned off by religion for so many years.

This interview is not telling you what to believe, in fact it is quite the opposite. It is a discussion on how to look at things like spirituality, religion, divine intelligence in a different light so you can take what works for you and leave the rest. This is a very thought provoking and honest discussion on some big topics, don’t miss it!

More about the book, A Theology For The Rest of Us: If God exists and is good, why is there evil? Avoiding such questions underlies the spiritual emptiness and anxiety in today's world. A Theology for the Rest of Us explores how to approach the divine through Eastern and Western religious traditions without dogma, challenging readers to "be you lamps unto yourselves."
In a time of internecine wars and all kinds of abuse of authority and trust, too many good, thoughtful people are "voting with their feet" and turning away from organized religion. Popular "spirituality"-a sort of mysticism-lite articulated in memes-is often unsatisfying as well.

A Theology For The Rest Of Us is a straightforward approach to the fundamental questions of religion and philosophy: Does God exist? Is there free will? What is 'evil'? And many more questions many seekers ask. This book draws on the traditions of the East as well as the West-Taoism, Buddhism and Hinduism in addition to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam-to see what can make sense in today's world. Whether exploring the implications of 17th century Enlightenment philosophers, quantum physics, or the insights of writers such as Dostoyevsky and Alan Watts, the reader is offered a rational, coherent approach that can provide understanding and a basis for hope in a world where the spirit has been all but decimated by doubt and worse.

This week I’m excited to welcome Jan Day to the podcast. Jan is the author of the book Living Tantra - A Journey Into Sex, Spirit & Relationship. In this episode Jan and I discuss what Living Tantra is and isn’t, some misconceptions about Living Tantra and what it means in modern day life. We talk about one of my favorite phrases: getting comfortable with being uncomfortable and discomfort plays into our experiences.

We also talk about what it means to move slowly, about safety and how both of these can be so valuable in our lives. I share some of my favorite exercises from Jan’s book (finding our exits and seeing the Buddha’s in disguise) and Jan shares her’s as well.

If you are looking for a practical lifestyle approach to healing, interacting with the world and living your daily life, you will not want to miss this episode!

More about Living Tantra: The principles of Living Tantra are to use all experiences to learn and become more conscious of ourselves and the world around us, and to develop greater compassion for ourselves, each other and the world. Tantra is ‘the weaving together of all that is” and it does not seek to separate sexuality and spirituality. Sexuality is fertile ground for self-knowledge and for integrating everyday life with spiritual life. The book introduces practices and principles that support living this in everyday life, as well as stories from Jan’s own journey and participant experiences from the workshops.

More about Jan Day: Jan Day is a Living Tantra teacher, relationship expert and psycho-spiritual teacher. She has been teaching and leading workshops in Europe and Hawaii since 1999. She brings extraordinary warmth and compassion to her work in groups, with individuals and with couples focussing on intimacy, sexuality, self-love and growing consciousness. She creates a learning environment where people can get a vital education in communicating effectively, creating authentic intimate long-lasting relationships, understanding themselves and their sexual nature and how to find a warm hearted and healthy expression of their sensual nature.

Jan Day brings to her teaching a deep understanding and a warm appreciation for people’s need to find and to trust their own unique journeys into being. Jan’s life and work have been influenced by both Eastern and Western spiritual teachers. She was a sanyassin of Osho for 15 years. Over a period of 20 years Jan trained and then taught with Alan Lowen, founder of _The Art of Being®. The Living Tantra series of workshops that she offers is based on the Body, Heart & Soul®_ series created by Alan.

She has also been influenced by and/or worked with Jack Kornfield, David Deida, Ron Kurtz, Ken Wilber, Genpo Roshi, Thomas Hübl and Ammachi. Jan now lives in England with her husband Frieder, who co-leads sections of the workshops and brings his own magic. You can reach Jan and find more about her workshops at her website: www.janday.com. You can get your copy of Living Tantra - A Journey Into Sex, Spirit & Relationship on Amazon https://amzn.to/3dUQZry or wherever books are sold.

How would you define universal forces? Do you believe they are in play and we just can't see them? How do you explain those nudges you get to do something, which make no sense at the time, only to find out later there was a specific reason or purpose for what that nudge pulled you to do? This is a fascinating topic for sure!

In this episode, Dr. Erhard Vogel joins the show to talk about Universal Forces Working in Our Favor. Erhard shares an amazing story about a sapphire necklace he bought 40 years ago for his now daughter-in-law (who wasn’t even born yet when he bought it). At the time Erhard bought the necklace, he was traveling the world with very little money and purchasing this necklace was completely out of character for him and made no sense given his circumstances. Yet something compelled him to do it and he listened.

In this episode we discuss universal forces in detail, how we can tune in and participate with these universal forces working on our behalf and how we can tell when we get a “signal” from these forces. We also touch on instances where we are intentional about what we want and forces work in our favor as well as where we are nudged or called to do something (that makes no sense at the time) and we see later the impact that calling had.

If you want to hear more about Erhard’s remarkable story of the sapphire necklace and how you can begin to recognize the signals in your life, don’t miss this episode. This is a very extraordinary interview and I know you will love this conversation!

More about Dr. Erhard Vogel: Erhard is recognized as one of the foremost meditation and self-realization teachers in the world. He is the founder of the Nataraja Yoga Ashram in San Diego. Erhard teaches only from direct experience. With clarity and simplicity, he demystifies the fundamental questions of life and guides students to find the answers within themselves. His step-by-step teachings and easy to implement techniques have made Self-realization attainable for tens of thousands worldwide. The episode begins with Gilda sharing her story of what she learned at age 12 about having more control than she thought. From there we move on to discussing fear and how it can rule our lives and keep us from living. We talk about creativity and how creativity isn’t just limited to artists and musicians. We are all creating throughout our days and we have the ability to create whatever it is we desire!

Gilda and I also discuss success and what it actually means, letting go and letting things workout and how there are millions of paths available to us that we can’t see at the moment. Throughout this interview, Gilda shares stories from her book, her experiences as a professional violinist & what she has seen with the clients she coaches.

We are all living by the scripts in our head, so what kind of script are you living? If you are interested in changing the script from fear to one of expansiveness and creativity, this episode is for you!

More about Dancing with Your Muse: Have you ever had a dream, but let it go because you were too afraid of failure to try? Dancing with Your Muse is a heartfelt, motivational guide to understanding this fear, realising that you are not alone in it, and working past it to achieve your goals without inhibition.

Fear of failure is a universal issue that can hold even the most talented of people back from reaching their full potential. Dancing with Your Muse is a series of thirty essays which speak about the common and debilitating anxieties encountered on the path to creative expression.

Written in a gentle, contemplative tone, this book will encourage you to determine and strive for success on your own terms. Performers, business people, students, and everyday dreamers alike will learn to courageously choose the most direct pathways to creative success and, more importantly, personal fulfillment, holding only a desire to contribute fully to their own life.

More about Gilda Joffe: Gilda Joffe, graduate of The Julliard School, is an executive coach for women, with a speciality in eliminating fears hindering development of business and creative potential. WIth a focus on mindset work, she has over 25 years of teaching and coaching experience and is a certified Heart Math trainer for businesses & individuals.

As a violinist, Gidla performed throughout North America, as well as internationally with various European ensembles in major halls across the world.

When we decide we want something different in our lives, we often want to skip the perceived “hard” part and get on to the “good” stuff, unfortunately life doesn’t work that way. As the title of the book implies, the only way we are able to move through anything is to move through it. And if that’s the case, wouldn’t it benefit us to have the tools to do this in the best way possible?

My guests this week are Kris Girrell and Candace Sjogren, authors of the book Typhoon Honey - The Only Way Out Is Through. This book shows how the science and psychology of transformation actually works, and that it isn’t all woo-woo or magic! While I love woo-woo and magic on this show, I also like the practical side of things as well and this book helped to pull together many concepts in a way I have never heard explained before.

Have you ever wanted something so bad and felt like you weren’t going to ever get it? That it was always some far off date that you could never quite obtain? I’ve felt like that in multiple areas of my life, so you can imagine my surprise when I had two experiences where strangers pointed out I had exactly what I said I wanted in my life with both my relationship and my podcast business. At first I actually resisted the notion for both but after I thought about it more, I realized “wait a minute, they were right!”

In this episode, I share the two examples from my own life where I was stunned to find what I said I wanted was actually already right in front of me. I’ve always been annoyed by the phrase “everything you want is already here” because I never understood how that could be true, until now. In this episode, I also share my thoughts on why it’s important to get clear about what we want, how our perspectives influence what we see, and how you can start to look at things differently in your own life right now. I think you’re going to love this episode, don’t miss it!

Think about where you are in your life today. Is there something about your current experience you don’t like? Who is responsible for doing something about it? I hope you pointed at yourself because you are the only one who can change where you are! When we are in a situation we don’t like, we often resist our current circumstances which causes internal chaos. And from that internal chaos, we try to create something new, which only brings more chaos. We don’t want to be where we are and we are fighting our own story which brings a massive amount of personal suffering.

As I’ve been asking after all these interviews with Erhard: What is next for you? What action will you take as a result of listening to this episode? Every month we pose a challenge to you, the listener, asking what is next for you after listening to this episode. And we are asking you the same this month! One action you could take right now is to reach out to Erhard and I and let us know how you plan to implement what you heard in this episode. Please reach out and share your thoughts! Have you been able to experience anything different as a result of this conversation? Please let us know! We welcome any questions or comments you have or any other topics you would like us to cover. You can reach Erhard at [email protected] and you can reach Sloane at [email protected] We look forward to hearing your comments, questions and suggestions!

"You are an infinite being with infinite potential. All you need to do is open yourself to a new consciousness, a true vision of who you really are and awaken to the power within". What if we all believed that? My guest this week is Gerry Hussey, author of the book Awaken Your Power Within: Let Go of Fear, Discover Your Infinite Potential and Become Your True Self.

Gerry and I cover so many things in this interview from the familiar fear and anxiety we all face to consciousness, the brain, your mind and the observer part of ourselves and how each part is separate to make up the whole. Gerry’s insight gave me a whole new way to view how our thoughts feed our brain (not our mind - our brain) and how much control we really do have over what goes on inside our head.I said at the beginning of this interview that this book has all the right questions in it that you need to ask yourself to move into a different way of living. Gerry is an amazing human and his book is a must have for everyone on the journey of self-discovery.

Communication is a two-way street and everyone’s communication styles are different. Different doesn’t mean bad, it just means different. With that in mind, it’s important to remind ourselves that just because we prefer one communication method, it doesn’t mean everyone in our life is going to want the same. So paying attention to our own communication style as well as understanding what others' preferences are, can go a long way to improving our relationships.

On this episode, Alex Martin is back on the show to talk about communicating in ways people can hear. I absolutely love that title because so often people communicate without ever noticing or caring if the person they are speaking to is actually hearing what they are saying. We also talk about conflict resolution and pathways to redemption. Alex and I both share examples from our own lives of how we have been able to speak up about our own needs to get more out of the relationships we have with other people.

If better communication interests you, and/or you're looking for improved ways to handle conflict resolution, tune into this episode! I think there is going to be something valuable for everyone who listens to improve communication in their own lives. Enjoy!

Do you value yourself sufficiently? I think most people would say yes. But if you start to examine your life, do your actions align with someone who values themselves sufficiently? It’s an interesting experiment to look at in your own life.

In this episode, Dr Erhard Vogel and I continue our monthly conversation. We cover all kinds of topics this week from how to have an experience so you can use the knowledge you’ve gained to live and act accordingly, how not living in the moment causes you not to relate to what you are experiencing and the importance of not classifying our feelings but being able to sit with them and let them flow through you. Denying our feelings ends up chaining us to the feelings we are trying to deny and Erhard shares his insight on the impact this has on us.

This week we are going to journey into the underworld to understand what it is, what it can offer you and the importance of building a relationship with it. Dr. Joanna LaPrade joins me this week to discuss her new book “Forged In Darkness - The Many Paths to Personal Transformation”. This book is about learning how your experiences of hardship—moments of darkness, resonate with different mythic underworld journeys. Through opening a world of myth, psychology, storytelling, dreams, and symbolism it invites you to treat the inevitable darkness of life as a forge of transformation and growth.

In this episode, we discuss how fixing, control, and willpower dominate our relationship with hardship and the inner world and why that attitude is limiting if used all the time. There are many ways to be with and learn from suffering and we talk about how this book can help you find yours. We also discuss accepting the challenges of life and knowing ourselves at a deep level is difficult but how it also brings meaning, depth, capacity, and opportunities for profound transformation. I also share my own experience of what I learned from reading “Forged in Darkness” after the recent loss of my father and insights I gained from the book. The stories we tell ourselves (positive and negative) create our reality. What is the reality that you are creating? Yes, we are living in crazy and stressful times with new pressures being put on us daily. The good news is, you don’t have to succumb to this fear-fueled drama. Navigating your reality to a place of success starts with taking control of your thoughts. The Create What You Speak podcast will help you chart the path to the destination you desire (and deserve). It’s time to finally put those worn-out stories on repeat to rest once and for all.

Sloane Freemont will help you take control of your inner voice – that voice that can propel you – or hold you back. Changing your thoughts is the first step, but it doesn’t stop there. You must take the action, the right kind of action, to get what you desire and Sloane can show you how. Getting into the mindset that your goal is a requirement and not a dream will allow the unfolding of a new life. There is no lottery ticket, Princess or Prince Charming coming to save you. YOU are the person you have been waiting for! Join Sloane to learn how to free your mind and live free in an unfree world.
