The Gold Rush is a 1925 American comedy film written, produced, and directed by Charlie Chaplin. The film also stars Chaplin in his Little Tramp persona, Georgia Hale, Mack Swain, Tom Murray, Henry Bergman, and Malcolm Waite.

The Zarbi soon locate Ian and Vrestin, but they escape when they fall into an underground tunnel.

Back in the Carsinome, the Doctor accidentally reveals that the Menoptra spearhead plans to land at a place just north of the Crater of Needles.

Ian meets with a Menoptra called Vrestin.

The Zarbi capture the Doctor and Ian and take them to the Carsinome.

Meanwhile, inside the ship, an unknown force acting through Barbara's gold bracelet draws her outside, leaving Vicki alone.

An unknown force pulls the TARDIS off course and forces it to land on an unknown planet. Whilst exploring with Ian, the Doctor recognises the planet as Vortis; however, the presence of several moons in the sky of the normally moonless planet puzzles him.

The Doctor has found the architectural plans for Nero’s new Rome, and deduces that since the year is 64 AD that the Emperor is planning to destroy the city.

Ian has been confined to a galley in the Mediterranean but the craft runs into rough seas and is broken up.

The Doctor and Vicki are en route for Rome when they find the murdered body of a lyre player named Maximus Pettulian.

With the TARDIS stuck at the bottom of a cliff, the First Doctor, Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright, and Vicki have installed themselves in an unoccupied Roman villa. As the Doctor and Ian recline, Barbara and Vicki walk to a nearby Roman village. They are spotted by two slave traders, Didius and Sevcheria.

The Doctor enters Bennett's room, and finds things are not as they seem.

The Doctor, Ian, and Barbara are still missing the Doctor's granddaughter Susan when the TARDIS lands on a planet the Doctor eventually recognises as Dido, a world he has visited before.

As the Daleks set the capsule in position and start the countdown, Ian scrambles the wiring inside the capsule, disarming it.

Barbara uses Dortmun's notebook to bluff the Daleks into believing she has information about an imminent uprsing and demands to speak with the Black Dalek.

Sensing that the Doctor is highly intelligent, the Daleks leave a device in the cell with the prisoners which the Doctor solves, enabling them to escape. However, the Daleks are laying in wait and recapture them.

The Daleks take the Doctor and Ian, along with captured resistance members including Jack Craddock, onboard their saucer, where they convert attempted escapees into Robomen.

The Doctor meet resistance members Dortmun (the leader), Carl Tyler, David Campbell, Jenny, Thomson, Baker, and Larry Madison. It turns out that the Daleks have invaded Earth!

The TARDIS materialises, the Doctor surmising from the surroundings that they have landed in London only to find it devastated and in ruins.

The Doctor and his companions decide to attract attention by starting a fire, succeeding in manoeuvring an aerosol can into the flames of the Bunsen burner gas outlet.

Ian is investigating the interior of a discarded matchbox when someone picks it up. That someone is a government scientist called Farrow who is visiting a callous industrialist named Forester to tell him that his application for a new insecticide called DN6 has been rejected as it is far too deadly to all forms of insect life.

Despite indications of a malfunction in the TARDIS, its fault locator shows nothing is wrong and that it is safe to go outside. The Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Susan consequently explore the vicinity, finding the remains of giant earthworm and ant, which appear to have died instantaneously. The travellers realise they have returned to Earth but have shrunk to the height of an inch.
