I’m on my way to Presa de Bao

Description:
This is the last video in the series. It’s a bit lengthy but there were so many different roads I took to end up at the lake and they all had some exceptional scenes. Even though the camera can never match being there I’m sure those viewing the video can imagen the scope of some of these views. Once at the lake I just had enough time to do a quick pan of the shoreline and venture to the tip of the lake. From there I had to begin heading back to perhaps the best area of the entire country. The area that surrounds Cabrera, the place we call home. So, there you have it, in three days I went from a scorching desert to almost 8000 feet above sea level. Temperatures went from 102 degrees to the low 40’s. The scenery changed from ocean to lake country and from cactus to northern pine. After viewing the series anyone who still feels that this is not one of the most diverse environments on the planet, should perhaps get off the couch and experience it firsthand for themselves. Passing Through Constanza – Heading to Jarabacoa

Description:
I began the next morning and departed Constanza rather early. I headed towards Jarabacoa and decided to check-in at the hotel. Whenever I’m in the area Liane and I really like staying at Hotel Gran Jimenoa. It’s a lovely place and they serve an excellent breakfast. I dropped off my belongings and relaxed while recharging some video batteries. I scouted the map and found an old secondary road called Paso Alto. With that kind of name, I knew it’s my cup of tea so off I went. Was a great hour and a half route right up until I found a locked gate at the end of the journey. I met a local living not too far from the gate and was hoping he’d be able to contact the person who might be able to unlock it. Got Lucky and ten minutes later it was opened for me. I was getting hungry, so I found a neat place and had some lunch and a beer while enjoying some awesome natural beauty. So far, it’s been an excellent trip. Until next time, Barry in DR.

The Northern Look - Valle Nuevo National Park

Description:
As I continued, the altitude began declining and I entered Valle Nuevo. I hope folks watching this take time to notice a completely different foliage. When first entering the trail, it was tropical and now it’s taken on a northern appearance. What was cactus and palms were now evergreen and northern pine. Amazing diversity is what awaits those willing to explore. Glad I was only about an hour or so away from my evening lodging. It was a full day, and I was beginning to look forward to enjoying dinner, followed by a good night’s rest. There’s a restaurant in Costanza called Angas Blancas and it’s excellent. That’s my next stop and a small hotel across the street is where I’ll be parking myself for the evening. Until next time, Barry in DR.

I’m on Cloud Nine – Heading to Constanza

Description:
Since I had never been to this part of the country when I first arrived at Palmar de Ocoa, I decided to drive up and down most of the seaside roads. When I scouted the B&Bs on the Internet I was actually kind of excited. Some of them looked really nice and since living here over the past decade and a half, I have covered a major portion of most areas of the DR. I was anticipating finding something new for not only myself but my subscribers. I must admit, I was quite disappointed to find out all these places were behind razor wire security walls averaging ten feet in height. In fact, every seaside villa was behind similar security, and you know what that means. Still, I drove around and after covering most major roads I determined this was not the place for me. I didn’t see any restaurants or places of interest that would entice me to hang around for the night, so it was time to move on. Since I was facing a six plus hour journey, I grabbed some chicken to go and began heading towards Sabana Larga. From there I began climbing to some hi altitude through the clouds overland roads and was heading towards Constanza. Wild how the temps went from near 100 to mid-40’s in under four hours’ time. I'm Very Happy to be Back on the Road

Description:
Well, I’m finally off and running once again. The Truck is ready for a real test and that’s exactly what I’m prepared to do. I left the house early this morning not having a clue where I wanted to go. I did want to cover the new bypass highway from beginning to end so why not start there. I understand it’s going to save a tremendous amount of time not having to go through the Capitol and all of its traffic. It did! I loved the ease in traveling and the wide roads on this bypass. I finally decided to head out towards Bani. Once there I pulled over and enjoyed a coffee while looking at my map program. I was thinking hey, I never explored the desert areas surrounding Palmar de Ocoa. It was decided that’s my first stop. Buckle up.

It’s Time to Go Back on the Road

Description:
After a six plus month absence, it’s great to be back again. Anyone who owns a home understands that moving into the premises is only the beginning, not the end. There’s so much that needs to be done and it all takes time, and it takes money. Both have their limitations, at least for us they do. Now that the garden is in place and producing well and Papa Yota has been converted to a lefthand drive vehicle, it’s time to do what I love the most about living in this country. It’s time to get on the road again! It’s been a busy winter with our Real Estate business, but for now most have returned home and until school’s out Cabrera remains quiet. Sit back and get the seatbelt snugged up because I just returned from a 700 KM trip that covered everything from 100 plus degree desert to mid-40’s being up above 7000 feet. Why We Chose Cabrera in the DR for Our Permanent Residence

Description:
Now that the many projects are all but completed, it’s time to check out the cameras, fire up the drone and get used to using the equipment. I thought it necessary to test the various equipment before heading out on another video project. Yes, it’s time again to continue bringing our subscribers interesting videos about the DR.

Despite the current negative trends plaguing most of the world the DR is experiencing booms in several areas. Tourism, Real Estate, infrastructure, and public services just to name a few. All of these plus several more have experienced huge growths over the past few years. Yet again the DR led the Caribbean for the strongest economy, and this makes it 8 years in a row.

Rio Boba Canal – Los Memizos, DR

On my final video of this day trip, I stopped by the aqueduct that feeds a good part of the rice fields surrounding Mata Bonita and Las Gordas. I had a great day and hope these few short videos have brought some enjoyment to those taking the time to watch them. We’re three years into this and many have suffered greatly. One thing’s for sure as some nations decline, others accelerate. Armageddon is for the gullible. Pandemic, war, and economics all play a part in the universal laws. It’s never been will I be affected, rather to what degree will I be affected. This nation’s been breaking records for GDP and arrivals for over the past half decade. Rio Boba - Los Memizos, DR

Description:
Crossing the cement bridge heading into Los Memizos which is oregano country. Many folks have experienced the goat in this country. It’s delicious, however there’s a few areas where shortly after weening they eat mostly organic oregano. The flavor is drawn into the meat. From most locals they seem to feel that it’s the best way you can enjoy it. Local goat is one of the few dishes that offers two versions of the same meat. In many restaurants you’ll actually have a choice when ordering if you want it spicy or not. Traditionally Dominican culture shy’s away from spicy foods, of course that changes for those who’ve traveled or worked in other countries. Cocoa Country

Description:
Really enjoying getting back out there with touring the small out of the way areas surrounding Cabrera. Soon enough Ill be setting up an overnight excursion, but for now these day trips work quite nicely. While Guayabito and Los Jengibres may not be comparable to the larger the huge cocoa plantations of San Francisco de Macoris they still represent part of the Co-op. I stopped at a little local tin roof café and enjoyed some excellent roasted chicken along with an ice cold beer. An hour or so later it was time to continue. Hop back in and let's head towards the organic oregano farms. Road Development to Copeyito

Now that I’m up and running again it’s great to revisit some of the out of the way small farm towns the surround the region. When you’re living in the nation that’s supporting the strongest economy of the Caribbean and has so for the past several years you really begin to see the development. Even the thoroughfares of the most secluded areas begin to take on a whole new look. Not so long ago I would have needed 4-wheel drive to have any hopes of making it through the mud that would have surrounded the roads in the area. Now you see compact cars traveling with relative ease. Currently paving the entire roads in the area is just one of many benefits that seems to be the norm for the nation. For those who are looking for a better simpler way of living, a less intrusive government and perhaps best of all less stress, may want to consider this nation as an option. How about the people that reside in your area. Notice any changes in temperament. Are people more edgy, more willing to shout out and act in a feat of rage over simple misunderstandings?

As mentioned in prior writings 2023 is going to be a volatile year to say the least. I recently looked up what the numbers were for arrivals to the Dominican Republic in 2022. These reports tend to be released very soon into the new year. As I am receiving reports from our subscribers on how dismal their nation’s economy is after receiving the stats, I have to take a step back and again appreciate how things are in our region. Our economy is holding its own rather well.

Needless to say, I don’t believe the government’s reports on record breaking arrivals; however, things seem to be holding their own rather nicely. Remember, not will I be affected but rather to what degree will I be affected. That’s the important question to be asking.

I encourage my listeners for all those with the means to do so to consider reallocating a good part of their portfolio into a well-researched foreign country and PARK IT! That’s right, just park it. This is just the very beginning of what’s to come and I dare state this is the year you’ll really begin to understand why I’ve been saying this for a good number of years now.

History has 100’s of examples of currencies being replaced. It’s one of the most affective ways of flushing out and forcing people to expose what they have. This leaves them open to extensive levels of government intrusion and in extreme situations, confiscation!

The other and equally important part is whenever a new currency is issued there’s always an exchange rate involved. History proves there’s always been an exchange ratio of some sort, 1.5 - 1.75 to one but it’s always penalizing the holder. Those holding only cash suffer, those with tangibles exchange at the value of the tangible. There is no 1.5 or 1.75 to one. If you doubt study your history. Happy New Year 2023!!!

First and foremost, Liane and I want to wish all our subscribers the best in 2023. After completing a six month refurbish project on Papa Yota, I can’t tell you how good it feels to be back in the sparse areas of the country again. I’m Lovin it!!!

Do not mistake the following as being negative however, it’s looking more and more like this year is going to be a volatile one. Never have we as a species been further divided. The areas are too vast to mention. Now more than ever It’s crucial that you step back and take a clear view of what’s lying ahead for 2023.

With that in mind and to a large degree because of how our area’s weathered out the past three years, I’ve decided to begin a series of videos with the theme of reinvest, relocate, and relive. While our region of the DR is certainly not the only place that’s favored well, there’s several, but it is noteworthy to be able to now back it with fact.

The test of time is the only way this can occur. We’ve been exposed to the same changes as the rest of the world and still 3 years later for the most part a strong state of calmness and respect for others remains the norm. If you can’t say the same, you may want to consider your options.

I’ve mentioned on several occasions the question you’re trying to figure out is not will I be affected. Heck we all will! The question is to what degree will I be affected? After 3 years of exposure now I know that compared to most other places the degree is minimal!

It’s when the free stuff comes to an end is when the wave begins to crash on the innocent. This year will be only the opening of the floodgate. Step back and focus. This is no joke anymore! Until next time, Barry in DR.

What’s Happening Around Cabrera?

I had the opportunity to scout around Cabrera and sort of catch up on a few of the happenings. The Malecon is progressing nicely but what might even represent a bigger project is the breakwater and dock that’s soon to commence at Playa El Puerto. I hear there’s going to even be a boat ramp to launch and haul out small boats. If the rumor is true, that will be an excellent upgrade for the town. Many folks have asked about boating facilities and as of the present there are none. Lastly, they’re black topping the Naranjito road. A project that should have commenced long ago. As Cabrera grows so are its prices. Perhaps you’ve waited long enough. Any doubts about Cabrera growing as a community should have long ago been laid to rest. At some point you have to begin wondering if humanity is just on some programmed downward spiral. Is there any way of justifying a 500% increase in the number of soccer players, along with other professional athletes who’ve dropped down from heart attacks and strokes over the last two years! From March 2021 to March 2022 there’s been a reported 769 athletes who have collapsed during competition. What’s changed over the last two years that could possibly be the culprit.

That is an astounding number and prior to the mandatory rules about being (you know what) the figures were not even worth mentioning. Yes, it was that rare and that makes perfect sense. Athletes are amongst most finely tuned bodies in the peak of physical condition. In addition, the average age of these athletes was 23 years of age. So, what’s up with all these athletes falling victim to heart related issues? What’s changed over the past two plus years?

As far back as early 2020, during the earliest stages of this whatever you choose to call it, we mentioned on several videos and blog posts that there’s going to be a lot of people hurting themselves as a result of their own ignorance. Enough said, it brings me no pleasure seeing the effects rendered by poor choices.
In our bought and paid for world, you can pretty much get anyone holding a piece of 8x12 paper stating that they’re capable of regurgitating what they’ve read to say pretty much anything. Over the past while I’ve been sent in several quality productions from Bitchute and Rumble showing professional’s lying to the highest degree. Nothing more than talking heads.

Doctors along with a host of others, stemming from all areas of the sciences claiming this incomprehensible increase in heart attack, stroke and other major ailments is due to obesity and higher levels of stress. I don’t think I have to remind anybody stress and obesity have been with us forever.

There’s nothing new over the past couple of years that could possibly cause such increases, or is there? This holds true for both the general public and professional athletes, and yes that includes the added stress brought on by our elected officials locking down the world’s economies along with its citizens. Is there something that’s been introduced over the past two and a half years that’s capable of doing this on a worldwide basis?

What was originally going to be a video about the many “why’s” that we’ve heard turned into what is now our new information video. With hundreds of tours and excursions, the thousands of people we’ve met over the past 12 years, there’s one thing that remains constant. What eventually began to grab more and more of my attention was the following.

It didn’t matter what nation or area of the globe they originated from. It made little if any difference what religious beliefs or lack of were present in the individual, even lifestyle, heritage, language and creed played a micro part into their reasoning for reaching out to us. The one single entity that was almost a 100% commonality was to all of them “Something Feels Wrong”. The many languages and beliefs, so called differences all seemed to dovetail into the one same reason. That reason is to all of them “Something Feels Wrong”.

The funniest thing we found out about our twelve years of doing these tours and I do mean hundreds of them. The longer we keep doing this one, thing’s become rather obvious.
