The thief on the cross was NOT water baptized, but he was saved. So, even when water baptism was commanded, which was under OT law, it was not required for salvation.
Lord Jesus had said multiple times that salvation is received by FAITH ALONE:
John 6:47 (KJV) "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that Believeth on me hath everlasting life."
