This video is the second half of the succulent painting I started in a previous video. I finally finished up the remaining plants and then put in a background of a variety of green tones with a teeny bit of red. I wanted to keep the background fairly light to avoid taking away the contrast with the various plants.

I'm planning to try this design out on some greeting cards, and I'm keen to try some other subject matter in a similar style, such as mushrooms, coral and shells.

I just want to say upfront that there is some clicking in this video in the audio because my new microphone is picking up the mouse clicking when I hit start and stop on the audio recording. So, apologies for that and hopefully I can figure out a way to do that without the clicking being picked up next time.

This video is the second part of the footage of the greyhound with sunflowers in the background. I've since decided to name this piece "Parhelion" which means sun dog. I've always liked the word and think it fits the subject matter well.

This piece has been donated to Always Greyhound Fundraising Group for an auction later this year, and some greeting cards have been donated for the initial spring auction coming up soon. You can check out the group and auction items here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1193526747645940 The proceeds are mainly going to Candy Cane Rescue currently which does a lot of work bringing dogs back from China where they have been sold for breeding or into the meat trade. Very worthwhile work.

This piece was a lot of work over a period of around 3 weeks but I did take some time away from it regularly to make sure I didn't burn myself out or rush to finish it. I'm really pleased with the end result and it taught me a lot along the way, especially about not judging what the end result will be when you are only partway through. I have to keep reminding myself how many layers go into a finished picture with ink, and keeping videos of pieces like this progressing really help to remind me of this lesson.

I discovered some footage of a portrait I did of a friend's cat back around the start of the year and decided to use it to make this week's video. It is timely as my husband and I said goodbye to one of our cats last week. Cats are a pretty challenging thing to draw due to the shortness of the face and how it can easily look like the different parts are at once too outlined (and therefore register as separate) or too blended and then there's no depth. To add to this, this picture is of a black cat with a tiny bit of white on the chest, so getting the balance right with pastel was very tough and I'm not entirely certain I achieved what I was aiming for. I think a more detailed medium like ink would be much easier for me. Regardless, it was good practice.

I've been wanting to buy some handmade art supplies for a while, but I still feel like I'm not quite where I want to be with watercolour paints, so I decided to look into handmade inks as I'm fairly confident with inks in general. Todays video will be me unboxing and doing some initial swatches with them to get to know what saturation and hue they are, and then I'll do a more in depth video another time in which I'll tackle a piece of art with them.

I hope you enjoy the video. I very much enjoyed trying these inks for the first time.

In this video I'm painting some freesias for practice. They were my Mum's favourite flower, so I paint them each year on the anniversary of her birthday. These ones turned out quite nicely in some places, but I wasn't completely happy with the picture overall. But that's what practice is for, so I'm glad I tried them again and will continue to give them a shot each year so I can compare to the previous year and see how things are going.

This video is me painting a couple of sunflowers as part of the background for a greyhound painting I'm doing for a friend's charity auction in mid-March. You can find her Facebook fundraising group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1193526747645940 I've included a couple of clips of footage of my own greyhound Zephyr at the end of the video if you'd like to see my sunshine hound (he's a big goofy fawn boy). There are a lot of greyhounds out there needing loving homes who either had a racing career of varying length, or were abandoned or neglected as they were surplus to requirements. Fortunately my boy was a rehome after a short racing career (literally a few months, and I suspect from the race notes he was just a bit of a clumsy clod). Zephyr is from Brambleberry greyhounds in Spalding who matched us together when I contacted them asking about cat tolerant greyhounds.

Unfortunately I didn't get any footage from painting the greyhound so far, but I will try to grab some when I go over it for a detail pass. I hope you enjoy watching the process for the sunflowers. I'm hoping to do some more step by step tutorial videos soon to start documenting more of the specifics about how I work to hopefully encourage others to give inks a try.

In this video I'm finishing off a page of Glimwood Tangle scenery and character pieces I started recently. I don't have footage of the initial colours being applied as I was using a pair of Ottlite lamps at that point and they turned out to have a banding/flickering issue as they were plugged into the mains (I use a Logitech c920 webcam, so I couldn't adjust shutter speed to account for this). But you live and learn, so I switched to LED panel lights with a Sony handicam battery and now I get good quality footage.

I'm super pleased with how the Ponyta came out in particular as the Galar flavour is one of my favourite 'mons. I finally hatched one from an egg in Pokemon Go on Weds, the same day I was editing this video, so that was a fun synchronicity.

I'm hoping that in Part 2 of this vid I'll be putting the pieces I've made together into a scene in a 30cm x 30cm box frame, but I may finish some more of the background/scenery off camera just to make sure I have enough pieces to create the lush forest feel.

In this video I'll be painting an A4 sketch I did recently of some succulents. I browsed a bunch of photos on a royalty free photo site and picked out a bunch of varied plants so that I would have a lot of interesting colours to work with. I'm really pleased with how this is turning out so far, and there should be a part 2 video coming up once I complete it.

In this video I discuss what I learned so far from this piece in terms of the bombay inks I'm using, and I also chat about the progress I'm making with watercolour paints. I'm using a set of Mijello Mission Gold watercolour paints, and will likely do a video about them soon once I feel confident enough with them.

In this video I'm inking a piece of lineart I drew recently. This is my Pokemon trainer from the Galar region and I've painted her wearing the Cute Clobbering hoodie from the game as well as the rest of the main outfit I used throughout Pokemon Shield. After I finished recording the footage I did go back and add a layer of orangy-red over her hair to give it a bit more of a reddish tone as the terracotta ink wasn't quite deep enough.

I'm hoping to cut this picture out and make some other elements at a later date to construct a raised scene against a separate background. I'm not quite sure yet what the scene will be, but one idea that came to mind is a camp scene in the wild area with a Pokemon that I used on my team during my Shield playthrough. I've also got a Glimwood Tangle scene on the go that I hope to do a video about soon so I can show how I construct a finished scene made from separate pieces.

Welcome to the first video of my new youtube channel. I thought I'd kick off with something simple and do a swatch video as I've watched a lot of other artists do them and I've never in my life done a swatch sheet before. I usually just pick out the colours based on the label tone and alter it through mixing if I need to tweak it. I've been using water based inks for a good couple of years now, after trying alcohol markers and finding that, while I liked them, the work involved in avoiding hard edges and streaks felt a lot to keep on top of and I felt stressed when colouring larger areas. I find water based inks used with a brush a little easier to control and I can cover a large area quickly with a wash like you would with watercolour paints. The way they mix when two colours are next to each other is also a lovely thing to experiment with and see what kind of effects you can create.

If you've never used inks before, these work a little differently to watercolour paint, which is something my brain wouldn't accept for a long time. It just seemed to me that they should be pretty similar since you can do washes and the pigment spreads in water, but actually they behave quite differently as they are waterproof once dry and dry very quickly, meaning you can layer them up without the lower layers being moved around and can typically work more quickly than with watercolour paint, which would have a much longer drying time. A lot of the same principles apply to both though in terms of high gsm paper being a good idea to reduce buckling and the way you can water the inks down to get different shades without mixing the ink with other colours (e.g creating different saturations of colour without using white).

The next video I put up with likely be a practice video of some orchid studies done with some of the colours I pipetted out for this swatch video as I needed to try and use some of them up before they dried.
