We venture into a big thrift store in this episode, and watch some amazing finds happen! Valley Thrift Store in Fairfield, Ohio is a destination for Jocelyn @CrazyLampLady, so she takes Kate @Followthatbugvintage and me to see what we can all find.

There's a lot to learn about thrifting in this one, but the biggest lesson is that timing is everything! We give up our empty cart to a fellow shopper who's already found a handful (including the familiar 1970s Tupperware jello ring), just in time to find a good piece of Fostoria Navarre and a Victorian style cranberry bowl...so it's back up front to get another cart!

Missed it by that much! Just then, we see a lucky buyer find a newly placed shelf of really good, big 1950s metal toys from Texaco and others that we were sad to miss. That tells us that we need to circle back through the toy section to see what else they're putting out...and a Tonka Jeep appears! We head back through the stacks of merchandise, pointing out anything vintage of merit (even a clarinet), talking about why it's better to buy tableware sets rather than odds-and-ends, figuring out when it's worth buying something for parts and when it isn't...all things that we've learned over our years of thrift store antiquing excursions!

In the end, we find a good set of stems (and talk about why we left one behind), useful replacement pieces for vintage readerboards, and a number of other things our collectors will enjoy. Now, is there room in the car for all this? We'll make it happen!

With hundreds of indoor and outdoor dealers bringing everything for their only appearance of the year, Florida's West Palm Beach is an Extravaganza like no other!

We start outside, where our shopping includes the newest version of the seat that made me famous! Lots of beauty and a little learning hit us as we compare new pottery to old McCoy and Rookwood, Lucite furniture and a really cool English knight cabinet, plus great old art glass, 1930s barware and Geisha Girl tea settings.

Then we head indoors, where sparkling designer costume jewelry, amazing French and Austrian art glass, a Victorian tear catcher and a 1930s chalk figure with fabulous legs are featured in really fine and really fun reseller displays! A 1950s doll that changes moods at the turn of a button, 1970s MCM enamelware and fine European art that shows us the dawn of collecting!

West Palm Beach Antique Fest is this extravagant once a year, but there's a fun antique vintage fiesta there on the first weekend of the month year-round! Check wpbaf.com for more info until we're back in town next season!

This large Old Spanish Trail is filled with antique and vintage delights, and cousin Carl and I are here to find what we think our collectors will love to see! Allandale is a special old neighborhood in St. Petersburg, Florida, and these fine old homes and their collections rarely find their way onto the marketplace. What will we find?

The home is as wonderful as its contents, from the step-down living room to the tiled sunporch and the wooden staircases to many rooms full of everything from handsome American antique furniture to Parrish prints, Satsuma ware and Bohemian glass beauties! We first get caught up with a case full of silhouettes, picking the best just before another dealer grabs all the rest. We'd better move fast!

1930s Worlds Fair memorabilia, framed carved cork scenes, mottos and linens, while Carl finds a few books too obscure to be listed online and some late period Asian sake or sauce bowls, and our friendly neighbor gets the Fire-King and Fiesta mugs she came to see. Our mutual hold pile grows larger...Carl and I both like a 1920s lamp, I find everything from mud men to ties...we'll show you my spend at the end!

Even the things we leave are tempting...a raging deal on a pair of marble-top Victorian pedestals, a cool 1970s lucite and glass cocktail table, a lot of stylish and interesting art and Orientalia...but we hold off instead for a good deal on a fashion statement and a surprisingly overlooked piece that sells well elsewhere at an unheard of low price! Estate sales are such a fun window into the past of a family, a city and all our shared heritage.

People are dusting off their favorite heirlooms, packing boxes with old family collections, taking down portraits and loading the car with antiques and vintage for the rest of us to see in this video! We take a look at one-of-a-kind items and family favorites at the Jewel Antique Mall appraisal fair in Belleair Bluffs, Florida, looking for clues that reveal the stories behind these relics and sharing them with both you and their owners.

What's the story of the woman in the portrait dad saved? Are mom's favorite pearls worth more than she paid on that cruise ship? How do we reunite a unique winner's circle flag with the wealthy new owner of the winning car from a 1971 NASCAR race? People bring so many interesting antique and vintage items, seeking knowledge and understanding that is my great pleasure to share with us all.

From 1950s kiddie records and 1970s pewter to a true antique Amphora owl and a 19th century platter in a rich mulberry color, the things people have kept aside are seeing the light of day for the first time in years! Stylish modern lamps, a 14k gold ring and many more surprises await as we spend a fun day helping people learn more about their favorites, and inspiring us to learn more about our own!

(To that end, we are having more appraisal fairs in Washington and Northern Idaho this month, check the community tab on my YouTube channel homepage for info and come see us!)

Bargains are pouring in on this drizzly day at the Mt. Dora, Florida antique extravaganza! I'm playing hooky with a friend and wading through wet fields to find the best deals during the deluge, and we're quickly rewarded for our perseverance.

A Couroc tray for $5? I'll take it! A vibrantly painted 1930s parrot flower frog for $10? Sure thing! Add to that a host of costume jewelry of all types--signed pieces by Renoir, Robert and Trifari, flower-power 1960s pins, a fun set of rhinestone studded earrings--and we have the makings of a revitalized jewelry display for our upcoming show in Spokane this April!

But most fun of all is seeing the beautiful bounty of the dealer friends we don't always get to go shop during these shows. A phenomenal space filled with fragrant perfumes, boudoir accessories and an amazing Hollywood Regency dresser set...a tent filled with antique cylinder players, 1950s vintage radios and soda fountain stuff...Herend fishnet figurines and art glass ranging from Blenko to Salviati make this a fun day of finding awesome vintage and antiques!

Tiffany, Galle, Sevres, Baccarat...all the big names in fine antiques and vintage valuables are here! We're exploring deep into the Plaza del Angel antique center in Mexico City, where the sheer volume of fantastic antique and vintage wares boggle the mind.

Not one piece of Rose Tiente, but an entire shelf of it! Not one real cameo glass piece, but a cabinet full! This video should delight our serious collectors, and give a new look at what amazing things are out there to be found to those of us who haven't gotten to see such finery in one place before.

Friendly shop owners show us lots up close, from French sculpture and opaline glass to guilloche compacts, latticino paperweights and jade. Pietra dura and marble work abounds, chandeliers from Dresden porcelain to French art deco, even a uranium glass Fenton basket are in the mix!

Mexican art makes an appearance too, from Huichol beading and miniatures of the famed El Cabillito horse statue to masterworks by Diego Rivera and Camarena at the Palace of Fine Arts. We watch "sunset" through the panes of a giant Tiffany Glass stage curtain as we marvel at the wonders of Mexico City!

This video turns out to be more special than we imagine! We shop and tour an antique mall with a viewer friend who shows us some cool antiques and vintage, helps us interpret what we're seeing, and leads us to some real bargains we can buy to pass on to our collectors.

A lot of true antiques and singular vintage items made it to Knoxville, Tennessee, both before and after the 1982 World's Fair brought interesting things from all over the world to this mountain tourist destination. Such a variety here!—an art deco dining table from the Panamanian Consulate, colorful 1960s glass from Morgantown and L.E. Smith (and Italian fish that has to go home with me), a rope crib made for twins...plus a ton of fun vintage and antique collector items to suit many tastes!

Beyond the shopping tour, our friend gives us great tips on how to identify the better items in the big case of turquoise jewelry, explains how a shelf unit turns into a staircase and shows us how this Chinese piece folds out in to an amazing bar! We see original multi-media art, put aside a good art glass paperweight and revel in the fun that we share when knowledgable vintage fans gather to share stories! We're so grateful we had this chance to meet and see such a fun antique and vintage variety.

Florida's oldest antique mall is it's newest antique mall! Janet's Antiques is resurrected in this episode. I'm cramming my booth full of fresh stock as new dealers and seasoned veterans replenish this wonderful vintage venue that almost went by the wayside just a few months ago.

We meet the proprietor, who's coming out of retirement to make it possible for this terrific antique destination to find new life! Her fascinating story is making our story here last longer, and my response is to pack in a plethora of vintage lamps and lighting, sculpture and wall art, fab 50s dinnerware and art deco design into my space. Everything old is new again, and we check out my booth while wandering through to see what new vendors are bringing to sell!

"Wow!" is all I can say to some of the mall's new additions...Adrian Pearsall and Arne Jacobsen chairs, beautiful Blenko and vivacious Viking Glass, art deco pottery and art prints from modern masters are just a few of the new offerings in this refreshingly revived antique venue. Vintage George Nelson lamps, Lane furniture, a case full of Italian art glass and oddities from a seismograph to a floating ship's compass are making this the go-to place again for antiques and vintage in Saint Petersburg—and along Florida's Gulf Coast. Sales are already great, and we'll be back to see how it grows!

It's a sellout! How did that happen? We review 20 great true antiques and valuable vintage items, and talk about why they all are headed to new collector owners from our eBay auctions this month.

Is it pricing that sells them? We talk about the strategies of how we price and what things we sell as buy-it-nows (the heavy Griswold pan is nice to ship before everything else), what we price low and let go high (the NY Public School doorknobs are sure sellers!), and when we hold out for top dollar (those Mazer dress clips are definitely the stars of this show!).

Is it about high demand? We run lots of different things, from very sought after (the 1968 Disney poster map is a no brainer, and the 1910s vaseline glass bowl a sure hit) to esoteric items and things that "used to be popular" that we buy right and think have value (yes, we did sell the gold rimmed Rosenthal China fancy gravy boat!). So if it's not just about price and demand, what else could lead to these results?

In the end, it's as much about finding interesting things our collectors don't see all the time, whether inexpensive or costly, high demand or obscure! A pottery bowl from a small Massachusetts maker, a Fulper Wisteria glaze piece from a century ago, even a pair of Mexican silver shakers with an American backstory all find their new homes in this video. Watch along with us, and see what makes our collector buyers' hearts flutter!

This thrift store is spoiling us all with a bounty of antique and vintage finds our collectors are going to love! We're with Jocelyn @CrazyLampLady , Kate @Followthatbugvintage and Jacob @BernerBrotherAntiques , and we're having a friendly challenge of who can find the most (and the best) cool old stuff as we comb the shelves of Kettering, Ohio's Valley Thrift Store.

This might be the biggest thrift store on the planet, easily the size of a large grocery store and filled with aisles and racks of goodies. We each take an aisle and see who can pull out the best stuff...I find a Boy Scout bronze plate, a deco lampshade and a fondue pot on my aisle, while the others discover character glasses, a brass magazine rack, studio pottery and glass and a host of other fun things our collectors will enjoy seeing in our shops and online.

This place goes on and on, and we find some very special hats, Larry Laslo dinnerware, Cambridge glass, silk ties, MCM coffee sets...and at the last minute, a counter full of jewelry that makes me suddenly the big spender for the day (yes, some thrift stores still jewelry, and yes that is18 karat gold!). We shop, show and tell, and have a terrific time playing together in this huge emporium where the prices are good and the shopping is great! I wish all the thrifts I encounter were this much fun...

What an incredible feast for the eyes! Mexico City is centuries old, and the center of imports throughout a history of Spanish, French, Italian, American and indigenous influences. What will that portend when we visit a high-end antique center there?

Our friend Betty is with us to interpret (and get permission to film), and we happily discover that there's more than just Lladro in the two sister shops at the front of Plaza del Angel antique center! Incredible French art deco Degue lamps, Czech glass fruit chandeliers, Venetian and Bohemian glass fixtures dripping with crystals...and that's just the ceiling! Cases filled with gleaming Sabino glass, Gerdago art deco figures, cute Gulla spring headed critters and painted Italian portrait jewelry are just the beginning in this mecca for serious collectors from all over the world.

Austrian bronze, Victorian marble sculptures and a retablo featuring the Virgin of Guadalupe take us on a side trip to the fantastic assemblage of buildings at the Basilica named in her honor, and then back to the shops again to explain why the vases we all call "Bristol" glass are really a misnomer! A huge collection of European perfumes, highly carved Continental furniture and a sleek modernist Daum Nancy fish from France whet our appetite for even more beautiful vintage and antique items...but you'll have to wait until our next video about this astounding collection of fabulous antiques to see even more!

We're looking for the sweet spot in this video! We get to preview the Garden Club of Saint Petersburg, Florida's annual flea market, combing their donated wares to figure out what's antique, what's vintage and how to price it so they'll make more, but still give good deals to their flea market shoppers. (Of course, we don't get to pre-buy at this event, but knowing what's there certainly tempts us to return for the sale...)

There's an art and a science to this! The 'art' is in the display, grouping the true collectibles and picking them out from tables of random linens, dishware, kitchen items, art and jewelry, then assembling them where the resellers who flock to this annual event can find them at affordable prices. The 'science' is in setting the prices right, looking at today's market to be sure that Fostoria American barware attracts today's buyer (we'll have to cut that price in half), that McCoy planters useful to the Garden Club attendees aren't tagged at giveaway prices, and that Shelley cream and sugar sets go for 40% of retail value (mark those up!), rather than just a few dollars each like the common English pieces do.

We get to see it all in this video, everything from handsome antique andirons (misplaced in Florida, price those cheaper) and vintage art (that's a 1930s Hawaiian steamship line menu in that frame!) to solid wood furniture, 1950s barkcloth and a clock that could have been on Liberace's piano. It's fun to help the club maximize its most important fundraising event of the year, good to hear that most items sold and didn't end up being re-donated by the club at the end, and best of all to know that they broke the five-figure mark it sales!

Yesterday was a great day selling outdoors at the huge Mount Dora, Florida antique show, but today's a washout! So we're leaving our booth tarped and tented, and running off to see what the antique and vintage dealers under the pavilions have to offer instead.

These are the permanent dealers who come to sell here monthly, and what an amazing group of antique and vintage things there are! We shop and learn a lot in this one...differences between Aldo Londi and Alvino Bagni ceramics for Raymor and Bitossi, why we think a lamp might be by Charles Catteau, what colors of American turquoise are hard to find now...these are knowledgable resellers with a lot to show! We even make a link between a pair of California pottery makers who seem to have a certain piece in common.

The buying is good too, and we comb cases of vintage costume and semi-precious jewelry (some as low as $3/each!) for bargains. MCM enamelware, a 1930s parrot flower frog, cast iron cigar cutters and stoners...there's a great bunch of things we can take back to our booth once the weather cooperates again! Meanwhile, if that dealer who got the Fenton swung vase out in the rain will just decide their price...

Our rainy day excursion is so all-encompassing, we can't fit it all into one video, so enjoy this portion and then stay tuned to this channel to see more of this fun shopping break in the near future!

This is the epicenter of Central Florida antiquing! Mount Dora, Florida is home to more than just the tri-annual antique extravaganzas, it also boasts a fine antique mall with beautiful and collectible vintage that I never get to see when I'm selling at the shows!

So for the first time in a long time, I'm taking a special trip back with a collector friend to see what Village Antique Mall has to offer on a non-show weekend, and the pickings are good! Designer vintage jewelry, a Blenko vase and vivid MCM enamelware all go to the counter, as we pile up the bargains we find among a store full of lovely things for serious collectors.

Two weeks later, we're back to scour the store again, when our show turns into a rainout and we pack early! This time, a different group of friends (you'll recognize @CrazyLampLady and her entourage) are with me, and we find fresh stock...and a store full of interested and excited collectors besides!

We talk about a bunch of fabulous stained glass and MCM lamps with some shoppers we meet, find century-old Amphora busts and modernist Danish fish pitchers, marvel at beautiful mesh bags and show-and-tell things we've not gotten to show you before, from an obscure art deco Chicago pottery maker to an odd Fenton glass variant and oversized Rinconada figures in their original boxes. The variety is great, and we leave with full boxes and fun finds to share with our online viewers in the near future!

This is such a fun experience to share! A bunch of our favorite collectors, new vintage fans and online friends from YouTube and Instagram are descending on Mount Dora, Florida's last antique extravaganza of the season! I've been scrambling to find a ton of cool vintage to show, and now it's showtime...

People are flocking to the booth as we open, with big sales coming fast...sterling silver, Kosta Boda glass, fab 50's furniture and glowing Fenton glass are disappearing before our eyes! We scarcely have time to film, so I show and tell about my booth and the highlights before they're gone...flamingoes fly away, Victorian garnets go home with someone else and I just have time to clear off that stack of 70s nesting tables for their new owner.

Some of the new owners are familiar faces, some new collectors and dealers we're just meeting for the first time! We get to visit, share and have fun with our compatriots from @CrazyLampLady , @TheNurseFlipper , @FlyingPigThrifts and @Followthatbugvintage , meet some great Instagram sellers, and bring a lot of joy to newfound collector friends from as far as Alaska and New York who've come to see us.

We get to shop around a little and see great things our neighboring dealers brought, from childhood toys to barware to original art, and marvel at the finds our visitors found in other spaces at the show...designer 1960s enamelware, swung vases, fun prints...you never know what will come our way!

Our hope is that the fun of real world antiquing and collecting comes through in this video...as cool as the things we see here are to collect, the opportunity to share the excitement in the moment is what really inspires us to make these connections! We hope our online viewers can extend their collecting fun to the real world as well.

This big house in a good Tampa, Florida neighborhood is packed with stuff…and shoppers! We wait for an hour in line, finally getting in just when it was set to close. Is this really worth it?

You bet it is! This 60-year accumulation of quilts, pattern glass, sterling, china novelties, handsome furniture and sewing-related items galore is so full, there’s still plenty left for us to shop, and the nice folks running it keep it open longer! We find a stack of neat old quilt tops (even one with 1933 dated newspaper backing), scurry through a garage where a Ford engine and 1950s Florida water skis await, and run upstairs to find dolls, linens and so much more.

A savvy estate sale shopper scouts ahead for discount day, and we make notes of things we would buy if they were bigger bargains...and do we get some! Our return trip on half-price day delivers a great collection of early child's sewing machines, piles of fun and pristine hankies, Limoges and Royal Copenhagen boxes, a misplaced piece of Viking Epic glass and a bunch of other fun antique and vintage items that make coming back three times as expensive as the first round...with no regrets on our part!

We leave with a vintage picnic basket filled with goodies, knowing our online and antique show collectors are going to have as much fun discovering these things as we did when we found them in this fine old Florida home.

We're taking you on a deeper dive in this video, with 20 antique and vintage items we think will find their forever homes on eBay auctions right now! Some of these are things you might expect—MCM pottery, Mazer and Krementz jewelry and original Fenton carnival glass—but we're also highlighting some categories we think resellers have forgotten, but collectors have not.

Do people buy china patterns these days? What about Fulper Pottery? What cool thing from the 1980s that was never to be sold is great to sell now? We explore all this and more, including cool Memphis style ceramics, an old brass doorknob that has imitators, even R.S. Prussia (yes, it's beautiful and it's time to give it its due!).

All these items go live as you watch...if you have a Level 2 or 3 membership to the channel here on YouTube or on Patreon. If you're watching this after the fact, consider helping support the channel and getting first dibs to the items in this member bonus video that helps us track how things are doing now in the eBay auction marketplace!

Sometimes, the second time is sweeter than the first! A collector friend takes us to "Treasure Marts" of Mount Dora, Florida, a vendor mall where decorator and new things conceal some wonderful (and wonderfully low-priced) antique and vintage items in their midst. We find vibrant vintage enamelware, a cozy quaint afghan, 1970's MCM modernist designer furniture and inexpensive Victorian enameled glass and spoon-carved furniture while I get my first impression of this place. $15 later, we pack our goodies out to the car and talk of the need to come shop here again sometime...

...but so soon? Just two weeks later, a rained out Sunday at my Renninger's Antique Show booth leaves me at loose ends, when some favorite YouTube friends and creators call and ask me to join them at this promising looking thrift mall they saw online...and it's "Treasure Marts" again! So I change into dry clothes and shop near the front while I await them, and am pleasantly surprised to find fresh things I didn't see the first time. Pierrot clowns by a 1980s firm that riffed on the original 1930s versions go up to the counter, and I scout a Westmoreland box and a big, bright two-tone Italian console bowl from the 1960s that I leave to see whether my colleagues will notice it.

Somehow, they sneak in behind me, and next thing I know, we're in the middle of the mall, where we meet up just in time to share the excitement of two Viking Glass 'Bluenique' 1960s pieces we all love! Sandy of @myflippingvanlife4437 has the covered candy, while Jocelyn @CrazyLampLady has the three-pronged triangle vase that's a miniature version of my favorite Viking vase in my own collection!

We comb the rest of the mall together, reading poetry in the form of 1920s Edgar Guest mottoes, sending goodies like painted parking signs and wild rooster figures to the hold area, and running into another friend who also ditched the soggy antique show to come find a prize in the form of an MCM ceramic mask. Turns out it pays to..

We love sharing our triumphs and successes, but there's as much to be learned from our errors and shortfalls in this video! We review our recent eBay auction results in this episode, with two major money sales on the plus side, and a few well-earned lessons on the other side.

Why did someone buy our most expensive item for full price at the last minute? What is so strange and cool that it can't sell fast at auction? Who actually signed that thing? These are some of the questions we answer as we review sales of everything from Blenko glass and vintage jewelry to valuable posters and comics in this episode, showing how successful selling on eBay still can be.

But what about our failures? There's as much to learn from them, and we're not shy about talking about how oddball items (rabbit brains and rotating toothbrushes) may not find their collector in a short auction timeframe, why it's important to be sure your research is right on autographs and ephemera, and puzzle over that amazing Murano glass bowl that we somehow still own.

We appreciate so much our Level 2 & 3 members, who get to live chat during the premieres of these videos, and whose contributions make this bonus listing of items on eBay possible to share with everyone. If you want to live chat in this video's premiere and have first chance to bid in our next eBay listing video, check out the membership section in the description below. A big thank you to our Patreon supporters, too!

We're on a bargain hunt today! Tree-canopied highways lead us to yesteryear in Umatilla, an Old Florida village that has some great deals on antiques and vintage, lurking in crazy old buildings long passed by time.

Our first stop is the Old Packing House, a 1910s orange packing center with open walls from the time before air conditioning that now constitutes a two-story vendor mall. There's all sorts of fun in this place, where decorator deals, cast-off clothing and valuable vintage all live in a vendor mall that surprises us with everything from Blenko and Viking glass to Tammis Keefe linens and Belleek porcelain at prices too cheap to leave behind!

After an hour or more spent shopping this fun store (and meeting another online reseller who's also getting great deals here), we take the proprietor's dare and go up the road to another early open-air Florida building, a 1930s garage with a hand-scrawled sign announcing that it is Don & Joe's Used Merchandise. This is a true junk store, piled high and deep with everything from used appliances and dusty Coke bottles to surprises like a Peggy Karr fused glass bowl! (Did I just call her Kathy Karr? that's my sister's name, lol.) There aren't many Old South junk stores like this left these days!

Then we see it, a nice looking vintage chrome/wood/glass table from the 1970s that looks like it may have sat atop this pile of stuff since it was new. Can we get it for a price we can afford? We take it up front, make our offer and are astonished at the response of the kindly, grizzled old owner of the shop...so much so that we trade him the donation pile we had in the back of the van headed for Salvation Army in gratitude!

We go home with an inexpensive lot of cool glass, tasteful porcelain and a fine looking MCM table upon which to display it! Thrifting proves fun and profitable, and we get to see a slice of Old Florida that is mostly gone in this era of massive cookie-cutter developments and theme parks.

—————————————..

That thing is fantastic! The best we've ever seen! But is it real?

We answer those questions and many more in this video, where we look at real antiques, fun vintage items and family heirlooms presented us at the Saint Petersburg Garden Club appraisal fair in Florida, and talk about what they are, what they're not, and why people still value them after all these years!

We go into these events with no idea what we might see, so I'm discovering them along with you and our live audience all at the same time. Did mastodons walk through Florida? Who really made that vase? Who had time to carve all that detail? There's puzzling questions we attempt to answer as we look at everything from Qing Dynasty porcelain to a Monaco sea life lamp in this fun review.

We make some people's day in this video ($1000 for an item procured for free), break a few hearts (no, that plastic elephant is not a $300 soapstone carving) and give lots of info that our viewers and the owners of these great items can use alike as we look at our own collections and seek to grow them. Appraisal fairs are a great way to take a deeper dive into the world of antiques and collectibles, and we hope to see you at one of our events this year!

I’m in Pinellas County, Florida and am selling so much at the Florida antique shows this season that I need a day to go thrifting myself! Curbdigger Carl and I hop in the van for an afternoon of freestyle thrifting, garage sale hunting and estate sale shopping, in search of things to enhance our customers’ collections…and maybe our own as well.

We warm up with a half-off estate sale, a cul-de-sac community sale and a garage sale, where we find a good amount of vintage and even some true antiques…Heywood Wakefield furniture, Royal Albert ware and 1950s kitchen & kitsch all vie for our consideration. We find a few things cheaply right off the bat, which whets our appetites for more!

Next stop is an amazing 1920s Florida home, with a bevy of cool things ranging from brass 1890s bells and mission oak furniture to a fine 1910s fire screen that has to go with me to my next show. There’s some pretty cool old things hanging in the trees too, as we introduce you to a crazy fern you won’t see elsewhere in the USA!

Then it’s on to Sheriff’s Youth Ranch Thrift Shop, where a viewer sends us to find 19th century English ironstone, a vibrant 1970s Haeger vase (just $3!) and a chrome deco-revival coffee table from around 1980 that is worth pulling the van up to load. All this great selection, in just a few stops…why bother with chain thrifts when you can find these sorts of deals here?

Our last stop takes us to a crazy last-minute estate sale, where the lack of lead time means some really good mid-century furniture is going begging! What can we do when there’s more great stuff at rock-bottom prices than we can fit in the van? Stay tuned!

Wow, is there some rare stuff at this appraisal fair in Newburgh, Indiana! While preparing for upcoming Florida appraisal fairs, I take a look back at our last fair, where amazing and obscure antiques, vintage items and ephemera revealed old family stories and amazing connections to famous sporting events, early Hollywood moviedom and fabulous examples from Tiffany, Lalique and...maybe Tiffany again?

Appraisal fairs can bring good and bad news, and we talk honestly about what we see in hopes it will help other collectors avoid mistakes! Why is one toy decades newer than it seems? Why is the mark on that vase suspicious? Did that REALLY come over on the Mayflower? There's so many family stories and representations made over time, and we inspect which are true—and which are betrayed by a closer look at the pieces we see.

In the end, we see a stopwatch likely used in a famous fight, an incredible racing trophy, a wonderful Weller vase, and a scrapbook that tells a story we suggest should be shared with the world! We're glad to be the conduit that gets these wonderful things off of dusty shelves and into the collective consciousness of the collecting world. Appraisal fairs are fun!

We're packing for next weekend's Mount Dora, Florida antique show, the last major one of the season! Lessons learned from the last show help us know what to do this time, so we're reliving the pains and pleasures of that event as we go on a chilly day shopping excursion.

We've survived the rainy set-up, and now it's time to look for big collections, buy fun novelties we can flip for a profit (remember Charlie Tuna?), and crazy things we've never seen before (like the first 'automatic' toothbrush)! There's so much to see, it's clumsy picking up costume jewelry with gloves on, but we happily find some vintage bargains that make it worth the effort. Then we head under the pavilions, where more sheltered dealer spaces offer cool antique phonographs, a listed modern artist's sculpture, and vibrant Marc Belleaire ceramics to offer a little relief from this uncharacteristically cool Florida day!

Back In our own booth, we greet our first shopper of the show, meet wonderful collectors and viewers, and have fun with Sandy of "My Flippin' Van Life" and YouTube's "Lily Pond Treasures"! In the end, we do well both buying and selling, which encourages us now as we look forward to this weekend's show, when a bevy of YouTube content creators are expected! The blending of the online vintage community into the real world of antique shows makes me excited to get to do this one more time in Florida this season—February 16, 17 & 18.
