Transform your traditional St. Patrick's Day recipe. Corned Beef & Cabbage soup. On March 17th we're all Irish but the traditional dish is a bit overplayed. (Just my opinion) Here is how I took my St. Patty's Day ingredients and transformed them into a delicious Corned Beef & Cabbage chowder. You can also make this recipe in a crock pot or slow cooker. ( See below).
I love soup and especially homemade soup - but I did take a short cut for this recipe by using canned soup. It just saves to much time and energy - we're all busy! This is the prefect St. Patrick's Day recipe that I love, It's simple a hearty soup that you'll love.
Crock Pot / Slow Cooker Directions
1. Combine the cooked corned beef, potatoes, cabbage, carrots, onions, vegetable broth, and cream of potato soup in a 4 or 6 qt slow cooker / crockpot.
2. Cover and cook for 4 to 5 hours on a low setting, stirring about halfway through cooking.
3. Add 1 cup of whole milk. Stir to blend and then add salt and pepper, to taste.
6. Cover the pot and cook for approximately 30 more minutes, or until hot. Add more milk or water, to thin it out- if necessary.

Flu and cold season is upon us and I have noticed so many friends and family posting that their entire family is sick and how miserable they feel. So here is my method of cold and flu prevention that has never let me down. Influenza is no joke and really hits hard. I am definitely not a doctor but I have been making this recipe for over 15 years and when I take it on the first day, my symptoms have never progressed any further. Shiitake mushrooms and star anise have so many health benefits, don't forget good ol' chicken broth. I'm not the biggest fan of antibiotic and always try to fight sickness with food.

Our Tomato soup recipe is perfect with a grilled cheese sandwich! A true American classic. My favorite thing about this tomato and bean soup is that is a great foundation to build off off. I have made MANY variations of this recipe just by making a few substitutions. You can substitute pork belly or pancetta instead of bacon. Replace butter beans with navy or canellinni beans or replace chicken or beef stock with vegetable broth and add extra veggies for a vegan or vegetarian soup. Use the tomatoes, vegetable stock and herbs and be combined with clams to make a variation of Manhattan Clam CHowder.

Split Pea Soup - Crock Pot & Slow Cooker recipe. How to make lentil soup with Ham.
I love pea soup and this recipe is also great for if you wanted to make lentil soup as well. Today I used, ham hocks but have also used the EXACT recipe using a leftover ham bone from Easter. We got nailed with about a foot of snow and it was perfect because I made my soup recipe in the crock pot and was able to save so much time (which I used to shovel my driveway LOL).
If you haven't used a slow cooker or crock pot before, I HIGHLY recommend it. It makes life SO MUCH EASIER!.

Radish Leaf Soup - Don't throw away those radish greens! Many people make the mistake of discarding radish leaves or radish greens. Radish greens are rich in vitamin C, vitamin B6, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, calcium, and vitamin A, aid in skin care, lower cholesterol levels, and regulate digestion.*
The tops of radishes are perfect for this easy soup recipe. I used chicken stock but if you wanted to make a vegetarian soup you could always use vegetable stock.

Now I have to admit, there are only 2 ways I can eat radishes. Radish leaf and potato soup and pickled radishes. (Recipe for that video is out next week) I'm not the biggest fan of them raw and I usually give most away to my neighbors. My Dad, star of my "Cooking with Bob" series, was very hesitant about the thought of eating the leaves from a radish but he absolutely LOVED IT. I hope you will too.

Welcome to The Bedford Life where we make meals and memories in style! In 2013, we created our first apron design and after 3 years of perfecting our craft, we launched our very first Collection which included 6 styles for women and girls. Our kitchen aprons started to create a buzz and before we knew it, The Bedford Life’s aprons were carried in over 25 retail locations across the US, including West Elm.
Our clients were chomping at the bit for more. They asked and we listened. With the major success of our Mommy and Me aprons, we soon realized it was time to expand our product line. During the holiday season, we created 4 Winter /Christmas paper placemat styles that sold out QUICK! These 4 styles eventually lead to a full Collection that continues to grow and now includes over 20 designs plus matching paper coasters. Our paper placemats and paper coasters are perfect any season and great for indoor or outdoor dining.

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies: So easy even I can do it!
Hey friends- I have a confession. I have NEVER made cookies from scratch..... EVER. I had no idea how to make cookies. I may have baked those pre-made cookies years ago, but that doesn't really count I wanted to give this recipe which I found on the back of an oat box a try but in my usual fashion I had a "Use what you've got" situation
Below is the original recipe and in parenthesis is how I cut in half or made substitutions.
Homestly, I was expecting a disaster and was VERY pleased with how they tuned out.
I will definitely make them again.
1 cup vegetable shortening (1/2 cup butter)
1 cup sugar ( 1/2 cup sugar in the raw)
1 cup brown sugar (1/2 cup)
2 eggs ( 1 egg)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (1/2 teaspoon)
1 1/2 all purpose flour (3/4 cup bread flour)
1 teaspoon baking soda (1/2 teaspoon)
1 teaspoon salt (no salt)
3 cups of Old fashioned oats (1 1/2 cups oats)
1 cup of raisins (1/2 cup)
Walnuts - optional (no walnuts - they make my throat itchy)
