Seven Sermons to the Dead is a mysterious, visionary text. Carl Jung relies heavily on Gnostic terminology, exploring concepts like the god Abraxas, and the ancient concept of the pleroma.

C.G. Jung authored this text early in his career, under what seemed to be strange spiritual influences.

Abraxas, pleroma, God, and devil are reinterpreted in Jung's text, and given meanings quite different than the ancient Gnostic and orthodox Christians might have intended.

This video explores each of these ideas in a humorous, entertaining way, simplifying the opaque, mysterious language and symbolism of Jung's work.

For more information on Jung's Seven Sermons to the Dead, seem my video on Abraxas.

Who is Abraxas? Delve into the strange world of Gnosticism, as we explore the multifaceted nature of this enigmatic deity.

What is Abraxas? Abraxas is a deity associated with Gnosticism generally, and with the Gnostic teacher Basilides in particular.

Abraxas is a figure that also features prominently in Seven Sermons to the Dead, an enigmatic early text by psychiatrist Carl Jung.

In this video, we explore Gnosticism, the figure of Abraxas, the Gnostic teacher Basilides, and the ways in which Gnosticism and the god (or demon) Abraxas figure into the ideas of C.G. Jung.

Our exploration takes us through historical contexts, facts, and figures that demonstrate how advancements in technology, agricultural practices, and social progress have consistently undermined the apocalyptic claims made by these so-called experts. What happens to all the hitchhikers who disappear? Maybe it's worse than you think. Connie gets a ride with a man who seems perfectly nice, but then she notices three bodies beneath a tarp in his truck bed. It starts with a hitchhiker in trouble, and ends as a cosmic nightmare...

An animated horror short by Jacob Michael King.

“Momma Told Me” is the first story anyone ever offered me money to publish. I was thrilled. But the magazine folded before I had the chance to see my work in print. Here it is. I hope you enjoy.

Who was the Good Samaritan? One of Christ's most famous parables, it is commonly understood to be a profound and challenging ethical teaching. However, many early Christians -- Clement, Origen, and Augustine among them -- interpreted the Good Samaritan as an allegory for the life of Christ.

Today's media is far more partisan than it used to be. Political media bias, however, may have some very easily explainable causes. In Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media (1988), Edward S. Herman and Noam Chomsky formulated the famous propaganda model. This model, in their words, "traces the routes by which money and power are able to filter out the news fit to print, marginalize dissent, and allow the government and dominant private interests to get their messages across to the public. The essential ingredients of our propaganda model, or set of news 'filters,' fall under the following headings:
1) the size, concentrated ownership, owner wealth, and profit orientation of the dominant mass-media firms.
2) advertising as the primary income source of the mass media.
3) the reliance of the media on information provided by government, business, and 'experts' funded and approved by these primary sources and agents of power.
4) 'flak' as a means of disciplining the media.
5) 'anticommunism' as a national religion and control mechanism. These elements interact with and reinforce one another."

This video examines the second filter: the advertising license to do business. In addition to discussing the impact of ad revenue on news, we'll examine why, in recent years, there's been a much more recognizable political bias in cable, print, and online news. Both legacy and new media have become deeply partisan, and the reason why may surprise you.

Fake news and media bias, on all sides of the political spectrum, have done a great deal to contribute to political polarization. In the United States, at least, there doesn't seem to be any source of information without an agenda.

In order to examine our deeply divided time, I take a look at an article by Dan Hitchens in UnHerd, called "When Did the Media Stop Telling the Truth?"

This article tells the extraordinary story of John Hersey, a reporter for The New Yorker, who first exposed the horrific truth about Hiroshima and Nagasaki to American readers. Hersey's report had such resonance because it effectively humanized the Japanese victims of the bombings -- it showed them as human beings with inherent dignity, just like us.

Certainly, this is a lesson we could learn today. Political polarization has caused us to demonize those with whom we disagree -- even to the point of denying their inherent humanity. Once we deny someone's dignity, it's much easier to commit an act of violence against them.

This video addresses the first filter: the size, concentrated ownership, owner wealth, and profit orientation of the dominant mass-media firms. Here's a link to "The Propaganda Model in the 21st Century" by Joan Pedro-Carañana, which I cite in my video:

Pfizer recently announced that it's COVID-19 vaccine is effective, and it's currently being manufactured for wide distribution. However, there is a well-warranted skepticism rising -- not about vaccines in general, but about about this particular vaccine, and this manufacturer. Sure, plenty of conspiracy theorists spin nonsense stories about microchips, turning off old folks, etc. However, there are many legitimate questions to be asked about a vaccine that was manufactured and tested in record time. In this video, I examine Whitney Webb's article from Unlimited Hangout, "US – UK Intel Agencies Declare Cyber War on Independent Media." You'll find the link below:

Godwin's Law states that, "as an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1." This is nowhere truer than in discussions of Donald Trump. Almost any online debate about the 45th president contains a reference to Hitler.

Donald Trump has likely been compared to Hitler more than any other president. But is it true? Is Donald Trump a dictator? Is he a fascist? Do his policies represent a unique evil, unprecenented in the history of American politics? In this video, I examine Glenn Greenwald's brilliant article, "No Matter the Liberal Metric Chosen, the Bush/Cheney Administration Was Far Worse Than Trump." As Greenwald states, “Those who have most loudly and aggressively insisted that Trump’s evils stand alone are, coincidentally or not, those who have stood to profit the most from perpetuating this ahistorical mythology.”

Pizzagate is a long-debunked conspiracy theory, popular among some Trump supporters, that claims Hillary Clinton and many other wealthy and powerful elites are traffickers, abusers, and murderers of children.

First gaining steam on 4chan and Reddit, Pizzagate made mainstream news when Edgar Welch, a seemingly ordinary citizen, walked into Comet Ping Pong, a pizza restaurant in Washington, D.C., and started shooting. Fortunately, nobody was injured and Welch submitted to arrest.

Pizzagate is fake news, but this isn't a debunking video -- there are plenty of those online. This is an examination of Pizzagate as American folklore. The Pizzagate conspiracy theory has all the elements of a great horror story. In this video, we examine:

James Alefantis, restaurateur and Democratic Party supporter, whose boyfriend, David Brock, was the founder of Media Matters. Pictures said to be from Alefantis's instagram were posted across a great many conspiracy-friendly message boards on Reddit and 4chan. Many of these posts weren't Alefantis's at all, but most believers in Pizzagate didn't

John Podesta, whose leaked emails were circulated online. Some of these emails contained so-called "evidence" of child sacrifice, satanism, and trafficking.

Adrenochrome, the supposed substance that folks like Clinton, Podesta, and other elites extracted from the blood of their unwilling victims.

The supposed plot for world domination that will ultimately lead to the extinction of the human species.

Of course, the vast majority of these claims are false. However, the arrest and suicide (or murder) of Jeffrey Epstein has led many to ask questions about child trafficking among the rich and powerful that haven't been adequately answered. Certainly, the more outlandish claims of the Pizzagate conspiracy are totally unfounded. But figures like Jeffrey Epstein and David Hamilton have led many to wonder if some very rich, very powerful folks have gotten away with highly illegal behavior.

An analysis of George Orwell's essay, "Politics and the English Language." This analysis is not meant to favor any political viewpoint -- it's about imprecision in language and the relationship of imprecise language to tyranny.

George Orwell (1903-1950), born Eric Arthur Blair, was one of the foremost political writers of the 20th century. Most famous for his novels 1984 and Animal Farm, Orwell was also a noted essayist.

His "Politics and the English Language," first published in 1946, has become a classic work on the subject. This video attempts to discuss Orwell's piece in the context of contemporary American political speech. I look at soundbites from Sarah Palin, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump. Orwell's analysis goes far beyond "newspeak," though ambiguous and euphemistic language is mercilessly criticized here.
