This episode of Think Spiritual was such a struggle to produce, that it became a Hero's Journey of it's very own! It just never seemed to turn out right. Something was always off and I even had to ask myself if it was "supposed to be" produced at all. There was genuine Temptation to quit!

However, the struggle and the Temptation just made the end result that much sweeter. Always persist!

Happy 2019!

I enjoy watching YouTube movie reviews from such content creators as Nostalgia Critic, Brad Jones, Say Goodnight Kevin and Cinemassacre. There was a time, quite a while ago now, when I thought I might try my hand at reviewing movies: I wanted to talk about movies that I love and everyone else hates.

Apparently I now have become a movie reviewer of a sort, but my take on films is much more about what I call their spiritual content and I examine this from an emotional perspective...as I’m sure you’ve noticed if you’ve listened to or watched any previous episodes of Think Spiritual.

So, let’s combine these two approaches today and examine the spiritual elements of a movie that I love and almost everybody hates: Lady in the Water.

I really don't understand why some of my YouTube uploads show up on BitChute and why others get completely ignored. I apologize for my Hero's Journey series being so out of order on here.

Anyway...on with this episode!

Alright, we’ve been in the belly of the whale long enough, dear listeners. It’s time to embrace who we really are and go take on some monsters.

Well, Dear Listeners, I have to admit that this particular step of the Hero’s Journey had me confused for a while. I had no idea where to start with it and I didn’t understand what it was about. After a lot of thinking and studying and watching and listening, I figured out at least a portion of it. Welcome to step 7 of Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey: Meeting With the Goddess. We’re talking about sex on this episode of Think Spiritual Podcasts.

Dear Think Spiritual Listeners,

The Hero’s Journey series continues!

Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey #4:
Crossing the First Threshold

http://thinkspiritual.ca/crossing-the...

Yes, I know, I just re-released the Hero’s Journey #1 episode, so perhaps it is slightly confusing to have the fourth episode released directly afterwards.

Well, that’s just the way it goes. I have lots of “old” content to update already and I still want to stay on schedule (even though it’s a schedule I made up). Consistency is key to building this podcast and subsequent video channels.

This episode of the Hero’s Journey is 13 and a half minutes. Please give it a listen. Please like/subscribe/share...it really helps!

Hero’s Journey #3 - Supernatural Aid

http://thinkspiritual.ca/heros-journey-3-supernatural-aid

It's part 3 of the Hero's Journey series and I have to say that I'm not feeling particularly "spiritual" this week. That's probably fairly normal and maybe it's actually a good thing if I'm not constantly on a high-horse. I guess a soapbox will have to do (ha!).

Anyway, I hope you find this episode interesting and enlightening and I hope you see the fun in Alanis Morissette turning this particular metalhead into a fan. Not sure what that means? Well, you had better tune in to find out!

It's a 16 minute podcast. Have a listen!

Yes, I know this is completely out of order and I'm very, very late with adding a video for this portion of the Hero's Journey. I just never got around to making a version for YouTube. It started to bother me that I didn't have a current and up-to-date playlist for this ongoing series.

Hello Spiritual Seekers! And welcome to another episode of Think Spiritual Podcasts.

I’m your host, Mark, and let’s just get straight into today’s topic: the second stage of the hero’s journey. Stage One was acknowledging that there is, indeed, a Call to Adventure that goes out to everyone. Now, what that call looks like within your own particular life…well, only you can know what that actually is. Your call to adventure is not my call to adventure.

That being that case, what if every call to adventure eventually leads to the same place and/or uncovering of wisdom?

Perhaps that’s an idea to explore at a later time. For now it is time to look at the most difficult and negative aspect of the Hero’s Journey: Refusal of the Call.

And that brings me to the T-800. Good ol’ Arnie. When I shifted my perspective of the film and looked at him as the protagonist, the Hero became clear and the entire story took on a new meaning. T2 became a Pinocchio story of the machine who would become a man.

Probably one of the most interesting aspects of the T-800’s Hero’s Journey is that almost the entire path of Departure (that is, the first five steps of Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey) takes place before we even see Arnold on-screen.

Look at it this way: at some point in the future, the T-800 is built and is living its Normal Existence as one of Skynet’s Terminator cyborgs. So, you have to imagine that there is a “Call to Adventure” for every cyborg: to break away from its programming. The cyborg naturally refuses this call to adventure (revealed in a T2 cut scene when Arnie...I mean...the T-800 says that Skynet sets all the machine processing chips to Read-Only), but along comes future John Connor (Supernatural Aid) and reprograms the T-800 to be something other than what it was built to be. So, by the time we see the T-800 for the first time it is right in the process of Crossing the First Threshold and entering The Belly of the Whale by simply being fully committed to its mission to protect young John Connor.

I realize that it could easily be argued that the T-800 is just a programmed machine and it has no real choice in what it does, but this is often the case with heroes: adventures are often flung upon them and they are not given a choice as to whether they will accept or not. They have to take up the call or die.

And how are we much different from a T-800? Society programs us to be good workers or spouses or children or religion-followers or ideologists or consumers or any number of things. Until we receive some sort of alternate programming, we often cannot break out of our tin..

I have to admit, Krull was a difficult nut to crack at first, but this is why it's great to have friends like Bernardo and Gonzo to discuss these old 80s Sword & Sorcery movies with. A little bit of brainstorming together and we had a whole bunch of interesting angles to explore with this movie.

Not only did Bernardo basically figure out the entire possible history of the planet Krull, but we also figured out why there isn't really a strong protagonist in this movie. He doesn't exist until he joins his feminine archetype and receives the power to vanquish the enemy!

Good day Spiritual Seekers!

Oh, wow! It's finally time for a new episode of Think Spiritual Podcasts!

It has been a busy summer with getting our house up for sale and getting back together with my band and with me attempting to find an alternative source of income in order to fund this podcast. The irony then becomes that the alternative source of income takes all my spare time, so I don't have time to do the podcast.

Why does life get so difficult at times? I understand that we make ourselves too busy these days and perhaps we probably just try to do too many things. The fact is that we just can't have it all and perhaps that is another lesson that could be learned from the 1981 epic: Excalibur.

Listen in once again as Bernardo and Gonzo and myself discuss this great movie and the spiritual lessons contained within it.

Audio quality is not the best in this episode. I was trying a new studio/microphone setup and it doesn't really work that well. There will be a video for this uploaded shortly, but I think I'm done with the video production after this. It just takes more time and effort and concentration than I have right now.

Twitter: https://twitter.com/ThinkSpiritual_
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thinkSpiritual/

I'm finally back to writing and producing a proper podcast, although at this point I have to say that I'm just going to put my energy into the audio and cut back on the actual video production (again). I simply don't have the time or energy to do it ALL. Part of what I had to learn during the summer break.

We are back in action, Spiritual Seekers!

Personal Spiritual Journeys #6 - Part 1:
Bernardo & Gonzo

http://thinkspiritual.ca/psj6_bernigonzo

Wow, I had planned to take a 1-week break from the podcast and it turned into a month! My apologies, but it was absolutely not on purpose and it was somewhat unavoidable. Spring came on suddenly after a too-long winter and Christine and I had more house and yard work to do than was feasible given the amount of spare time that was available. So, the podcast had to take a hiatus.

Also, I reorganized my podcasting/audio/computer/mancave space and that took much longer than I expected.

Can I also now complain about all the technical difficulties I’ve had lately?

Sorry, I’m babbling by keyboard.

Anyway, this particular episode is long, long overdue as it was recorded way back in January and Bernardo and Gonzo have been so patient with me. Delving into their personal...or dual...spiritual journeys was a great conversation and I felt it necessary to split it all into three smaller chunks—I kind of wish I had done that with all my former interview podcasts. Oh well, lesson learned for the future.

Here is part 1 and I will release parts 2 and 3 over the next 5 days or so. We’re busy purging “stuff” and having a garage sale this weekend, so life will be a little chaotic for a while longer.

This first part is 38 minutes in length, please have a listen!

Just a very short video letting you know that Think Spiritual Podcasts is still alive and kicking. It's finally spring and there is a LOT to do around the house, plus I'm revamping my podcast/video area and making a lot of changes there. Will be back soon with updated and new episodes/videos/etc..

Gravity (2013): The Path to Enlightenment

http://thinkspiritual.ca/gravity-2013-the-path-to-enlightenment

Yes, I think I have finally, finally managed to produce a Think Spiritual Podcasts video that I can truly say falls in line with the level of quality that I am capable of producing. I mean, it’s definitely not perfect, but it’s a vast improvement over my previous slide-show attempts.

Of course, doing more video editing does mean that these podcasts will take more time to produce and I am beginning to realize that creating meaningful content and talking about this kind of subject matter is really where my passion and enjoyment lies. So, I have to do a lot of thinking and planning to ascertain what the future of Think Spiritual Podcasts is going to look like.

But enough of that pondering for the moment! Come with me and take a look at the spiritual elements hidden within the images of the 2013 movie, Gravity!

This podcast is 20 minutes in length. Check out the video on YouTube or on the Think Spiritual Facebook page or just tune into the audio...your choice, of course!

Good day Spiritual Seekers!

Re-Release!

NEW AUDIO AND VIDEO FOR EPISODE 1 OF THE HERO’S JOURNEY!

Why? Because I didn’t make videos for the series early on and I want to have them and I’m starting to get my style and image down. That’s why.

Original release text follows (links updated):

Episode 4...wow! I’m not just tooting my own horn...I’m being honest when I say this is a good one!

http://thinkspiritual.ca/episode-4-the-call-to-adventure

This is it! The first episode of The Hero’s Journey series!

Wow, did I work hard on this one! I’ve been listening to some feedback in regards to production and made some format adjustments and did my best to be more personal and not too academic and I think the result is really good. I’m very proud of this production.

I think the podcast is just beginning to find its “voice” and “personality” and I’m enjoying the process.

Oh, by the way, I do make an erroneous statement in this episode: I say that I will be releasing a Hero’s Journey podcast every week and that is not accurate. Each series gets a once-a-month release. The next stage of The Hero’s Journey will be explored January 25, 2018!

I appreciate any/all feedback...positive, constructive, negative or just make fun of me if you want to!

Ever wonder why so many movies made for kids are enjoyable for kids and adults alike? Well, maybe it’s because we’re seeing deeper meaning and messages hidden in them than our supposed “grown-up” movies contain and I’m about to show you a great example.

Let’s have a little fun, Seekers!

Examining the Spiritual Elements of Movies #5

I had thought I wasn’t going to do one of these episodes this week, but inspiration struck and I felt I absolutely had to get this message rolling out there...and the added bonus is that I’m talking about an animated film this time around (and this won’t be the last one I do).

While there are some slight technical issues to continue to work on, I feel like I have outdone myself with this particular production and I have also wore myself out. I’m very glad I took an extended long Easter weekend.

(Yes, I say "You can do that right here on YouTube" because this video was produced for my YouTube channel (just yesterday) before I had heard about BitChute)

What does it mean to Think Spiritual?

It’s not religion, I’ll tell you that right away. To Think Spiritual means that you are conscientious about what is going on around you: that perhaps you see all the political, social, economic and environmental problems in the world, but you know that these things are just symptoms of a deeper problem. An internal problem. A spiritual problem.

Now, this is the part of the video where a logo for a church comes on-screen and tells you that Jesus or Allah is the answer to this spiritual problem...and that’s not going to happen here.

Maybe Jesus or Allah is a part of the answer for some people, but the real answer to the problem is YOU.

You have to solve your own internal spiritual problems before you can make any real change to any of the external symptoms of the problem. And can Think Spiritual Podcasts help you solve your spiritual problem?

Of course, this is where I tell you to send me $19.95 and we’ll tell you the secrets of the universe...and that’s not going to happen either.

However, maybe we can help you along your spiritual path. Think Spiritual Podcasts may just another voice in the crowd of many, many amazing philosophers and thinkers and teachers, but I do hope that you’ll join me here from time to time.

We do things a little bit differently by focusing on the Hero’s Journey as something you can actually participate in during your day-to-day life.

We look for meaningful messages in popular movies and songs and books.

We talk to interesting, everyday people about their personal spiritual journeys.

And most of all we truly believe that if you change your Self that you will absolutely change your world.

I really hope that you will join me for the next episodes of Think Spiritual Podcasts and you can do that right here on Y̶o̶u̶T̶u̶b̶e̶ BitChute by subscribing to our channel. Thanks for watching and I hope to see you again soon.

Be your own Hero!

Think Spiritual Podcasts looks at modern stories through the lens of Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey and explains their mythological meaning.

*****

I have started the Think Spiritual podcast and website because I am going to begin to challenge you to actively think about your spiritual life.

I am going to challenge you to think emotional, think rational, think body, think mind. I am going to ask you to think Self, think wholistic, because all of these things are spiritual in nature.
