My friend Joe Zawinul had recently passed so I had to wear my "Joe" hat for him.
Channel for bassist/composer Brian Derek. An early fretless bass player (started playing fretless bass in the mid 70's). Studied at Berklee College of Music. Has performed with Pat Metheny, Peter Erskine, Stephen Stills, Jay McShann, the 5th Dimension etc. Brian composes and performs original music all under the big jazz "umbrella". Similar artists would be Weather Report, Jaco Pastorius, Pat Metheny etc. He was given the nickname of Timeman by Jaco Pastorius for having such good time in the rhythm section.
