Full and fanatical preterists face a dilemma: Either embrace the full logical conclusion of their chosen eschatology, or ignore it and remain inconsistent, or reject their view altogether. Robert Townley apparently recognized this, as did many other full preterists. Denial won't make it go away.
Christians, be careful about what gets you hopeful and excited. These convoys may not be what they seem. (Not destined to be my most popular video.)
The history of preterism only begins with Luis del Alcazar. This video traces preterism's bare survival through the Reformation, humanists' and rationalists' love affair with it, and its introduction to the United States through Universalist preachers in the early 1800s.
The preterist "ace in the hole" is found in the statements that the things in Revelation are "soon to come to pass" and that Jesus is "coming quickly". This, they claim, is absolute proof that Revelation was fulfilled in 70AD. Let's examine this.
Did Jesus have to fulfill literally ALL prophecy in order to be Messiah? Which fulfilled prophecies officially established Christ as Messiah? Is all prophecy Messianic? At what point did Christ become Messiah? What are the soteriological implications of fanatical preterism?
Hopefully my last video on preterism, at least for a while. Some thoughts stemming from. . . well . . . less than friendly responses I've received from fanatical preterists recently. I misspeak on a couple of verse references, which some might take as a sure sign that I'm an antichrist. Oh well. We can't all be perfect.
