The Hapsburg dynasty is one of the most infamous in European history, from it's founding in the 11th century to the height of it's power in the 16th, controlling most of Europe. The only thing the family feared was losing their power, which eventually, of course they did. In the year 1700, the last Hapsburg ruler of Spain, Charles II died without an heir, causing an international power scramble for succession which lead Spain to be taken over by the house of Bourbon. 40 Years later, with the death of Charles VI, the male line of the Hapsburg dynasty finally came to an end, with the throne passing to his daughter Maria Theresa. And so passed the Hapsburg Dynasty, succeeded by the house of Hapsburg-Lorraine.

The Tudor period of English history is often considered one of it's most prosperous, the Kings and Queens of the Tudor family revered as England's greatest Monarchs. The most well known, King Henry VIII was known in his day for his great tournaments, promotion of culture, music and art, writing many great works himself. The greatest tournament in Europe, the field of the cloth of gold, was intended as a peace summit between the Kingdom of England and the Kingdom of France, with jousting, archery, wrestling and swordfights. It was believed in this time that idleness and boredom bred evil, so the King deigned to entertain himself and his court in great spectacles of sport. But the Tudor era was also characterised by intrigues, schemes, and religious turmoil, as Henry VIII declared the Church of England to be independent from the Catholic church in Rome, and himself it's leader. What followed was the mass persecution of Catholics who were feared to be challenging his reign. His son, the short lived Edward VI and his regents continued this, but the succession then passed to Henry's daughter Mary I who immediately reversed all reforms and brought England back to Catholicism, what followed was then the reverse, a mass persecution of Protestant Anglicans, many of whom were burned at the stake. After Mary died, she was succeeded by her sister Elizabeth I, whose protestant religious policies brought England into much international consternation.

One of the most infamously ruthless Roman emperors was Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus (Nero), being most well known for his cruel treatment of Christians, having many burned at the stake for their faith. Some Christians to this day believe that Nero was the anti-christ. But he is also known for the murder of his own mother, Agrippina. Throughout the first half of his reign, he took advice from his mother on how to rule, but in the year 59, he arranged for a ship carrying her to be deliberately shipwrecked, when she survived this, Nero sent the commander of the Roman fleet, Anicetus to assassinate her. Her death was marked as a suicide, but this fooled few people, with Roman historians writing the truth less than half a century after the events took place.
