If the Christian god created the universe, and knew in advance what would happen, then he knew that sin and immorality would arise. This would seem to make God, a perfectly moral being, morally responsible for immorality.

The mainline response to this observation is, of course, human free will, but there is no other circumstance in which we would consider a person to be morally non-responsible for some evil action, simply because they "laundered" that action through someone else.

Yes, I know, wasn't I already slow enough? Like I say in the video, my process is very labor-intensive, so rather than compromise on quality, I've chosen to simply slow down my overall production. I'm learning to manage my time better, and this channel is unfortunately something that I'll need to slow down on if I want to be happy and do all the things I say I want to do with my life. Consider clicking the bell to be notified of when I *do* get around to uploading, because I still have more to say about skeptical theism, God's divine foreknowledge, as well as my own summary of how Christianity probably began as a failed doomsday cult.

God is described with many positive adjectives, even though, in many cases, God is said to behave in ways which seem to contradict these adjective. Is God really "fair"? Is God really "loving"? Well, sure... but only if you redefine those words to fit around God's actions, and frankly, this comes across as a vain attempt to justify the continued use of these "nice" words.

But hang on, maybe God *is* fair, just, and loving, but in ways that we don't understand!
Well, maybe, but that would render his nature unfalsifiable, as I explained in my video, "God in a Petri Dish".

It's often said that, "You can't put God in a petri dish! God works in mysterious ways!" And you know what, that's fine, we can roll with this idea; let's see where it takes us.

My ultimate conclusion is this: if God's character is clearly defined... but he can also do things that seem completely *out* of character, well then, how do you actually know what his character is in the first place? And if God can explain literally anything, regardless of how incompatible he may seem to be with some things, well then, God himself becomes unfalsifiable.

William Lane Craig was recently interviewed on Capturing Christianity's channel, and the topic was how to debate atheists. His advice was not bad in and of itself, but I couldn't help but notice that he doesn't actually follow it, or really, *any* best practices on how to engage in a debate.

In fact, I recall (but can't seem to find) a video in which a man who wanted to debate Craig, and to whom the invitation was offered, explained how difficult it was to get Craig to agree to anything other than the exact type of debate Craig wanted, and he explained that Craig seemed to have only a handful of pre-written debate scripts that he was willing to trot out. Again, I can't find it, if anyone recognizes this, please comment the link.

I recently said that I don't upload very often, and that's still true, but I forgot how much progress I'd made on this video while completing The Sketchy Story of Jesus, so here's this video too now that it's done.

Was Jesus the Jewish messiah? What was the messiah supposed to be? What was the messiah supposed to do? And how would a group of devoted followers react upon seeing that their messiah had been a fraud? Simple: they would invent Christianity. This is the conclusion of the Sketchy Story of Jesus. If Hell is real, then why should anyone go there? The analogy is often given that God sending people to Hell is like a judge sending people to prison, but as we'll see, this analogy simply doesn't work when it comes to the idea of Hell.

I didn't *mean* to make a 55-minute video, it just sort of happened. Here is an index of the topics covered. I'm gonna go lie down for a while.

0:18 - Oral traditions. Note: I'm not saying that historians are wrong to declare that certain things in the Gospels are independently attested, I just don't think that our level of confidence should therefore increase as much as Christians want it to.

Now that we've established what eyewitness accounts can tell us, it's time to explore who actually wrote the accounts we have, and if they were indeed eyewitnesses. As we will see, not only were these authors *not* eyewitnesses, but these accounts are not even independent.

Also, I ended up lying in Part 2 when I said that we'd address the actual evidence in part 3. This video was originally meant to be unified with the *next* video in this series, which *would* dive deeper into the evidence, but I realized that such a video would have been over an hour long, and it would have taken at least an additional month to make. As such, I decided to end this video here, and to explore the changes to the text in the *next* video.

Notes:

• Another early manuscript worth mentioning is P137, which is dated anywhere from 150 to 250, and which contains Mark 1:7-9 and 16-18. This manuscript was originally touted as a first century manuscript (the first one of its kind), but this eventually gave way to a later date upon further examination.

• Acts “we” passages - 16:10-17, 20:5-15, 21:1-18, 27:1-28:16.

• On the literary seam in John about Jesus being in Judea:
Some modern translations have gotten around this problem by mistranslating verse 22 to say that they went into the “countryside of Judea.” But this, in fact, is not the meaning of the Greek word, “land.” - Dr. Bart Ehrman

In the NRSV Bible, Mark 1:5 and John 3:22 both say “Judean countryside”, but they use different words. Mark 1:5 uses the word, “chōra” (COE-rah)[xώρα], whereas John 3:22 uses the word, “gēn” (GAIN) [γῆν].

In discussions about the historical Jesus, Christians will often assert that there are only three possible explanations for these stories: either Jesus is a liar, a lunatic, or Lord. And, since no liar or lunatic could have possibly generated such a devoted following (ignoring Mormonism and Sathya Sai Baba, of course), Jesus must therefore have been Lord, and performed the miracles that are attributed to him.

However, as the title of this video suggests, there is a simple solution to this trilemma, one which *also* starts with the letter L: the miracle-working, son-of-God Jesus, is a legend.

This video took longer to make than I had originally planned, due to a major script error on my part, and poor audio quality on the original dub. Sorry for the delay!

This series will be a reboot of my original video, linked below. In this series, we will explore not only the historical origins of the Gospels, but also the nature of miracle claims, the effects of storytelling, and why Jesus's followers invented such radically non-Jewish theology. This will ultimately allow us to explain how Christianity probably began.

Yes, I'm aware that we're still in the primaries, so each candidtate is trying to appeal to their party's base as much as possible, but I think this rhetoric is doing more harm than good, especially when there are clearer, less morally-charged ways of explaining your position on healthcare.

And yes, part of the motivation for this video is simply to test out my new lighting and background. What do you think?

We like to talk about "the supernatural" as a distinct category of things, which some of us simply don't believe in. But what are we actually talking about when we say that something is "supernatural"? What makes a "supernatural" explanation different from an explanation we simply don't know yet?

Non-Patreon video. I've heard a lot of people complaining about the SAT's new "adversity score", and I can absolutely see the parallels between this and the dystopian YouTube short, "Modern Educayshun", linked below, which I think is pretty fantastic.

However, I think this "adversity score", if calculated and interpreted correctly, can actually be a useful tool for universities who want to admit students who will achieve the most. Keyword: "if", since I personally doubt universities are actually going through the analysis I outlined in this video.

As I mentioned, I have to praise the exclusion of race in this "adversity score" in favor of factors that, in my opinion, are actually concrete metrics for a student's quality of life. Additionally, I haven't seen anything to suggest that this score includes sex or sexual orientation either, so I'd count that as a good thing if true.

The charts on screen are just for reference; I don't stand by the exact locations of all the lines I drew. The idea is the important thing.

And yes, I know I'm going against the grain on this one (again), but this is my honest analysis of what's actually going on.

*Part 1 – Should gender dysphoria be classified as a disease?*
I realize that stigmas do have real-world effects. However, in these discussions with social justice activists, I’ve rarely (if ever) seen anyone actually demonstrate what those effects are, and that those effects are not worth the benefits that arise from the circumstances which create those stigmas, as I explained in the video. In these discussions, they’ll either declare that the stigma itself is so bad that we should avoid it at all costs, or they’ll claim that it will lead to other bad things, up to and including violence, with no supporting evidence. My point is simply that stigmas are just one side of the coin when it comes to, for example, labeling something as a “disease” or warning women not to drink while pregnant. These things can create stigmas, but they can also create other benefits, and no one seems to realize that there are two sides to this coin.

I think it's appropriate, to the extent that it’s possible, to treat transgender status as *both* a disease and an identity, on the grounds that, yes, it's a disease, but you're born with it, and it fundamentally affects how your brain works and how you think about the world around you (men and women do tend to think differently, as do trans..

Let me be clear: I'm not saying God *could not* have used evolution to create humans, just that there's no reason to believe it besides wishful thinking; the evidence doesn't support the marriage of these ideas, and the whole picture becomes absurd when you actually lay it out.

Sure, God *could* have used evolution to create humans, it's just not a very plausible explanation: some kind of half-assed creator god, eventually getting around to making the important species after killing things for billions of years? But he's also omnipotent? Again, possible, but who honestly thinks that's likely? Who would think that's a reasonable belief if someone from another religion professed it about their god?

I'm going against the grain here, but I honestly don't think this is a viable argument. It's true that the wage gap / gender earnings gap is largely (if not entirely) the result of workers' choices, not discrimination, but this little "gotcha" argument really doesn't help demonstrate this.

My point is this: you're only going to pay for what you think you're getting, and the reason women are paid less in the first place (the argument goes) is because employers think they're getting less out of them. Saying, "employers would just hire women" is putting the cart before the horse.

My thoughts on the recent Patreon exodus and the inconsistent, politcally-motivated actions from this and similar companies. At this time, unfortunately, I see no alternative platform for my subscribers. My infrequent uploads mean that a "per video" basis is really the only reasonable system.

I've emailed Patreon's Trust and Safety Team, received the standard response they've been sending to everyone, and replied back with the message below. No response as of yet.

"Thank you for the reply, but could you please explain why this conversation came under Patreon’s scrutiny, despite not being on Patreon? The community guidelines specify that the conversation you cited could be considered unacceptable on Patreon, but the conversation did not take place on Patreon, and yet, Sargon’s page was still removed. I am concerned that my entire identity may be subject to the seemingly arbitrary whims of Patreon, and I am concerned that Patreon is setting a precedent for other companies which people rely on even more heavily, such as banks and insurance companies."

Also, one potential objection to my choice of language would be, “But Venaloid, it’s not thought crime, it's *expressing* the thought that's a crime.” Translation: “It's only a crime if you get caught.” That's like saying murder isn't illegal, it's just illegal to get caught. Yeah, that's what "illegal" means, in a world where no authority is omniscient and can read minds.

I'm usually not so specifically political on this channel, mostly because my thoughts usually float around in the more philosophical and scientific areas of life, but in this instance, I think I have something to contribute.

In a nutshell, it seems as though many people have simultaneously lowered their expectations, and increased their empathy, to the point where nothing is anyone's fault, and no one can be reasonably expected to deal with the unfairness in their lives. I've had conversations with people farther left than me, where they've argued that it's unreasonable to expect people to work hard because maybe they're just naturally lazy or were never properly motivated.... yeah.

3. The Problem of Attracting... "Normies".

Basically, the only way an alternative website could get a foothold is if it gets regular people (not you guys) to migrate, which could only be done if the new website has most of the old stuff we are used to having, and enough new stuff to get people interested.

Hello everyone! Thank you very much for coming out, or just for keeping up by watching this video. Even if the debates weren't as fruitful as I would have liked, I'm still glad I went to hear them, and I appreciate all the speakers.

Non-Patreon video, just my thoughts on Ben Shapiro's latest viral clip. Nothing interesting on the screen; feel free to look away. And yes, I know, I'm still young, my desires may change as I age, but regardless of where my life leads, I believe my points are still valid: Ben Shapiro does not know what's best for you, and having kids is not best for everyone.

I wanted to delve deeper into the argument about western values being Christian values, and as often happens, someone else's video was the perfect springboard for my own ideas. Does that make me lazy? Probably.
