Japan is lifting its current border control measures on travelers from overseas on May 8, while launching a new genomic surveillance program to detect new infectious diseases. The country's strict border controls, implemented in February 2020, are considered among the most stringent among G7 industrialized nations, but their lifting is expected to help revive inbound tourism to Japan. Travelers arriving at five major airports will be subject to the new framework, and it takes a few weeks to get genomic test results. Ahead of the lifting of border control measures, Japan will ease those on all arrivals from mainland China.

How tall is Tokyo Tower?
333 meters tall (1,092 ft), 9 meters taller than the Eiffel tower in Paris.

When was Tokyo Tower built?
It was opened in 1958.
The fact that it’s 333 meters tall and it opened in year 33 of the Showa era is just a coincidence.

What is Tokyo Tower used for?
It was built as a television antenna, but since all television went digital in July 2011, two FM radio stations remain on Tokyo Tower; Inter FM and Tokyo FM.

Although it looks red and white, it is actually international orange and white.
Why is it white and orange?
That’s a safety feature.

Do they ever turn the lights off?
Yes, every evening at midnight.

Do you have to pay to go to the top?
Yes, and there are two options:
As of March 2023, you can get to the main deck, which is 150 meters, for ¥1200.
The elevator to the top deck, which is 250 meters, costs ¥3000 and it includes entrance to the main deck.
You can get a small discount if you buy ahead online. Link below.

How much does it cost to light the tower?
¥21,000 a day – less than $200

How many steps is it?
It’s 600 steps to the top, and you can do it in about 15 minutes.

These are (in my not so humble opinion) the most beautiful cherry blossoms in Japan.

On my way to see the cherry blossoms in Kawazu, Shizuoka, Japan. You can take the Odoriko (express straight to Izu Peninsula) or you can take the budget route like I did. If you take the budget route, you have to transfer a few times. I recommend the Odoriko from Tokyo Station or Shinagawa Station.

There are more and more visitors coming to Japan for the Cherry Blossom Festival as travel opens up.
