Ever since the summer of 2019, I have been obsessed with finding out everything there was to know about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom or as it was known back then: Breath of the Wild 2. In the build up to Tears of the Kingdom's release, Nintendo has released many trailers and other promotional material to get everyone excited for the game with some like Zeltik and GameXplain being given the privilege of playing the game days early and others doing so through the leak. Tears of the Kingdom would also face some skirmishes from people posting pictures of unannounced Zelda themed products, art book leak, and even the game being posted for sale online. So Enjoy!
Note: My apologies for this one taking too long to be released.

I had to visit Sanidin Park Ruins during the night to get one of those skeletal horses for a quest. They aren't the greatest in terms of stats, but they are cool looking. I wish I could register it, but I didn't have enough slots. Then the guy requesting to see the skeletal horse wanted me to bring other unorthodox animals which can be mounted like deer and bears. In a well, I found a tablet, which instructed me to visit Thyphlo, where I had a rather interesting task of using the sages' powers in specific places of the island to get a reward. There are a lot of statues in that place, so knowing what to do may take some trial and error. The last one may even be slightly glitched - I activated the water power at the appropriate place, but it didn't trigger the response of revealing a treasure chest. Even attacking, which unleashes the water wave didn't do the trick. Only when I used the charge hit, spraying water around, was the chest revealed. Ultimately the reward for this cryptic quest was a Dusk Claymore - like all other special weapons I'm just worried about breaking it. After investigating another fake Zelda sighting I received the Froggy Leggings as a reward. Now with 2 slip resistance armour pieces hopefully rain and slippery surfaces won't be that big of an issue. I also managed to get Farosh's Fang by shooting him in the face. Collecting all the parts to upgrade the Fierce Deity costume will be a pain.
It took me a while but I managed to collect the entire Fierce Deity set. The hints for the armour an boots were pretty vague. After searching through Akkala Citadel and even the cave underneath it, I couldn't find the artefact, so then I began to look for a tree stump in Hyrule field. This was equally vague, but I found a giant one, in one of the small forests there. You don't even immediately get the boots there, since you actually have to find them in a rather large cave. I also gave Koltin a bunch of Bubbul gems and he gave me several more rewards until the last quest was to collect them all, which will be insane considering how many caves there are all over Hyrule. Then I returned t Akkala Citadel, wandered a bit and even searched the depths region beneath it. Eventually I found a small tunnel going into a room of the citadel and the last piece of the Fierce Deity set was there. That was bit too well hidden. In the end I found it by sheer luck. Now wearing the complete costume I went back to the cave of the thief and a secret door opened, revealing a treasure chest containing the Fierce Deity Sword - a double handed awesome looking weapon. Much like all the other special weapons - I'm a bit worried to use it since I don't know how to recover it once it breaks.
Now that I've completed the game, I decided to go back to some side quests. First I obtained the Zora Greaves in the Ancient Zora Waterworks. Yona also mentioned how much Sidon appreciates Link as a friend, which was nice to hear. He's still the top bro from all the sages. Next I had to find the Zora Helm at the Skyfish and to reach it I teleported to the Water temple in the sky. There I found Mei - the wayward wife of one of the Zora people. Returning her was another side quest, but I find it incredibly funny since there was a similar quest in Breath of the Wild, where she was following a stream and was an insane distance from the Zora domain. Here she somehow managed to reach the bloody sky. In any case, I found the Zora Helm, which allows you to attack while swimming and Mei returned to her husband. The reward for the latter was a Hearty Fish Skewer, giving you 10 extra hearts - very nice, but deserved considering I found her by sheer luck. There was another task to find a secret treasure, but the riddle provided was very unclear. I had to find a great stone fish. I initially thought that it is the giant fish statue on top of the Zora castle, but it doesn't seem to be the case. I eventually gave up on the quest, but in the process of searching I found the extremely useful Climbing Boots. My guess is that the armour is somewhere in the Zora domain, possibly in another wet tricky cave. I did manage to solve the Goron secret treasure quest since the two lizards are clearly recognisable lakes on the map. The treasure itself was a helmet in the shape of Vah Rudania - one of the divine beasts from the previous game. I noticed that wearing it gives Yunobo's spirit the helmet the ancient sage wore. Not really sure if that strengthens the spirit and in what way - being able to use the power more often would be neat, but I wish this was a separate upgrade rather than being forced to wear an ugly helmet. I presume all sages have similar helmets, which is what the secret treasure quests are all about. I helped an archaeologist view some titan skeletons, which you first need to repair with the Ultrahand. The reward was pretty weak, but at least this lead me to a place where I found some fairies. In the Gerudo region I discovered that the sand whirlpools actually lead to underground caves. In a huge one I thought that there was a puzzle to put a sword in the hands of one of those statues you see all around the desert, but it turns out you just have to fall through a different pit. Then I solved a part of a quest where I have to look for a specific armour set - I found the Fierce Deity Mask, which I think is a reference to Twilight Princess. This seems pretty useful since it increases your attack, but unfortunately its upgrades require dragon parts, meaning you have to rely on random encounters. As an aside I wish Nintendo would remaster both Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess.
if you dont adhere to my headcanon you're a bigot

I returned to the same spot where I left off via the travel medallion. In this area the powers of the sages can't reach you so, you have to fight on your own. That wasn't that big of an issue since there weren't any huge groups of enemies, which is were the shadows of the sages excel as distractions. There was a single Phantom Ganon in the way at one point, but he wasn't too much of an issue. Eventually Link reached the Imprisoning Chamber, which I suppose sunk deeper into the ground since the beginning of the game. There you have to face the Demon King's army, at which point the 5 sages join you. The army consists of several waves of different creatures. They aren't really all that difficult, but taking damage will destroy your health, so you have to be careful. At the end the bosses you previously faced in the temples re-appear. The sages remain to fight them, while Link goes forth to face Ganon. Speaking of the devil, he transforms his shrivelled self into his human form and attacks Link. His move set is very similar to the Phantom Ganons you've faced so far, but he can switch weapons cycling between sword, spear and club. The Master Sword is pretty effective against him, but I didn't really try any other weapons. When you defeat him, he transforms into his Demon King form. He also spawns 5 clones, but the sages rejoin you so it's not a big deal. I used a Lynel bow, which shoots 5 arrows to spam him with bombs (some things never change). This was very effective when he's at a distance. You pick this weapon up from the Lynel you faced at the beginning of the area, meaning you can skip it, but if you do, you don't get the great weapon against the Demon King - awesome design. After you reduce his health a bit he dispels his clones and unleashes a blast of energy which incapacitates the sages. At this stage of the fight he gains a new move - shooting gloom at you with his bow. This is very dangerous, because if you have destroyed health, getting hit will permanently remove a heart. The longer this fight goes on, the trickier it will be. Ganon can also dodge your attack in a flurry rush style, so you have to be on your toes. When you defeat him Ganon eats his secret stone and turns into a dragon. He catches Link in his mouth and goes to the sky. There the Zelda dragon confronts him and carries Link on her head. You have to land on Ganon's back and attack his weak spots. This stage of the fight is pretty easy, but keep in mind that walking on him destroys your health in a typical gloom fashion, so it's good to be accurate and have some gloom resistance. When you destroy all weak points the final target is the secret stone. Link jams the Master Sword in there and Ganon explodes in a glorious fashion. Then Rauru and Sonia appear and using their powers they revert Zelda to her human form and restore Link's arm. A bit of a deus ex machina, but I don't mind it too much. After the credits there's a scene where Mineru's spirit disappears. I wasn't very attached to her since we barely got to see or interact with her, so that was a weird choice, but the sages swear loyalty to Zelda and we get a happy ending. Somewhat. Poor Link didn't even get a smooch - WELL, EXCUUUUSE ME, PRINCESS!
In case it wasn't clear from the previous 40 parts of this playthrough Tears of the Kingdom is a fantastic game. It does some things better than the previous one, but weirdly some things are worse - mainly the sage abilities compared to the champion powers. The former are much trickier to use and not as potent as the latter. ToTK may have some combat balancing issues, but the resource management is definitely better making all items usable with the Fuse power. The story is the weakest part again, but it's a bit better than BoTW. Not a fan that most of the costumes are either in caves or in the Depths. I preferred when some of those were shrine rewards. At least some of the cooler ones have quests attached to them. The puzzles and the shrines are better here, despite most of them being a physics based problem solved by building something with the Ultrahand. Some things like the inventory remain an issue and the Master Sword losing power again was annoying. Travelling around the map is easier, especially with all the gizmos you can build. The Sky and Depths designs leave something to be desired, but exploring Hyrule is as addictive as ever.
Overall this game is a superb value for money. Even after 130 hours there's still plenty to do.
I prepared myself for the final battle by cooking a bunch of meals. Then I reported to Purah about the 5th sage, who sent me to the depths underneath Hyrule Castle. I descended into the chasm and explored a bit, but I couldn't find a way forward. Then I thought that there may be a different entrance to where I need to go in the castle itself - I was wrong. At least on the highest tower I found the Dusk Bow - the weapon Zelda gives you at the end of Breath of the Wild to kill pig Ganon. It has fantastic range, but the other bows in my collection deal better damage. I do wonder where I can get it again if it breaks. Then I assumed that perhaps there is a path I need to discover from the depths - wrong again. At one point there was unbearable heat dealing constant damage, so I bought the full Goron armour set to freely explore. Back in the depths I killed another Marbled Gohma and fused its leg to the Master Sword for a serious attack boost. The Goron armour helped me explore the depths underneath Death Mountain and now allows me to freely scale the fire dragon Dinraal and collect his spikes. I even got a fragment of his horn. This is a much better way to farm him than wasting food on constant heals. Out of desperation I tried searching the chasm under Hyrule Castle again and this time around I spotted a Lightroot seed halfway down. I more or less returned back to the bottom where I previously was and spotted a rather hidden path, leading deeper into the source of the gloom. I think because of all the gloom this is really easy to miss, which is kind of a problem, for what looks to be the last mission. In any case I fought off a gloom Lynel and then decided to replenish my health and resources before continuing on. Thankfully I used a travel medallion to leave a custom checkpoint.
I found the pants of a legendary thief in a cave filled with chests. There was the method of befriending a dog, but I brute forced it. Then the 2 treasure hunters who were after it gave me 3 riddles for costume parts. I also found all the sky tablets, but aside from some info on the ancient royal family there was no overall reward. Still, 100 rupees per piece is good money. I also figured out that mixing sundelions into food heals you from gloom. It does say it in the description, but I never noticed it before - the quest where I had to heal a woman's grandmother helped me realise it. This will be helpful in tough battles in the depths. In Tarrey Town, I did a bunch of small tasks for Mattison, Hudson's daughter. She's being sent to Gerudo village to be raised as one of their own and wants to give her goodbyes to her family. It's a simple, yet very touching quest. When Mattison leaves, Hudson can focus back on his construction business. Kilton wants him to make statues of different monsters, but he's terrible at describing them, because he's a sperg, so you have to bring him pictures. When you do, Hudson will create the statue and you have to put it in a diorama. I got most of them, but the last one was the 3-headed dragon I once met in the sky - King Gleeok. Still in Tarrey Town, I demonstrated some more zonai devices to the races, who then moved to Lurelin village to help create the water sports attraction. Competing in it gives you some pretty decent rewards like zonai batteries. In a strike of luck I got Faroush's claw just as he was descending into the depths. This allowed me to complete another goddess statue quest. When I returned to the Mother Goddess statue, she awarded me with the White Sword of the Sky. I presume this is the blade from Skyward Sword. It looks cool and it has a decent attack strength, but I'm worried that it might break, like the other special weapons in the game - collecting 3 different dragon claws is pretty time-consuming. At the end I fully upgraded the humorously named Trousers of Time since I had a ton of amber. They are now my most powerful pants.
I explored the depths for a bit, which like usual led to nothing interesting, but I did find the humorously titled Trousers of Time. Discovered a couple of new shrines near the Gerudo region and had a tough battle with a Lynel. The problem was that he was located in a cold region, so I started with a less upgraded armour, meaning he was doing a ton of damage. To counter that I had a cold resistant meal and equipped my best gear and it was still a challenge, because of the Lynel's damage sponge properties. He tanked 2 flurry rushes with the Master Sword fused with a Talus heart. I found exploring the desert to be a pain because of the random sandstorms leaving you pretty much blind.
Completed a quest where I found a famous shield surfer stuck in a cave. Then in another cave I found Nat and Maghyn, who were looking for the mushroom heaven, which turned out to part of the cave with all different sorts of mushrooms growing around - it's a good sport to get any you need for quests or recipes. I defeated another Mucktorok in the depths, but the reward wasn't worth it again - just 100 crystallised charges. Considering it's one of the more annoying bosses in the game, the time taken to defeat it would've been spent better at getting zonite to achieve the same goal. I had another tough fight with a Lynel in the depths - when things got a bit too close I spammed him with bomb arrows from a Lynel bow (giving me 3 times as much damage). In my defence, the Lynels here are absolute damage sponges. Back at Lurerin Village, Bolson was trying to think of a plan to make it even more popular to tourists. He liked Link's suggestion to host a water rally. To do that you need to meet some racers in Tarrey Town and demonstrate to them how to use zonai devices and in particular ones, which are like racing cars. I reported several stone tablets I discovered in the sky and they tell the relationship between Rauru and Sonia. That's nice and all, but if you wanted me to care more, the show don't tell approach would've been better here. I met a woman named Lasli, who was looking for a cure for her grandmother infected with gloom. I made a gloom-resistant porridge, but that apparently wasn't it. I defeated another Marble Gohma in the depths - the reward was 100 more crystallised charges, but at least I got its marbled rock as an attachment. With all those extra charges I upgraded my energy above the maximum limit I thought possible.
I cut down enough trees (and dealt with some of the living ones) to bring to Bolson. Interestingly this revealed that the maximum number of attachments you can do is 21, which can still make some pretty complex things. What followed was helping Bolson repair many different buildings in the village, usually by fitting a central pillar made from a palm tree. With each restored building you get new services and the best thing of all - they are all free for the saviour of Lurerin! Those include a guy who is giving you rare monster parts in a form of a gambling game, a restaurant gifting you one free meal per day and best of all - an inn to restore your health. In there you can even get the expensive treatment for just 5 rock salt, giving you extra hearts and stamina for a material, which is barely used. When I helped a fisherman find his boat, he would offer free sea-related items like fish and monster parts free of charge. This quest was a bit of a pain to complete, but it was totally worth it. Plus people being generally grateful to Link is nice to see. I also cleared a pirate-infested island, but the reward wasn't all that great - just a Lynel horn. While those are challenging to obtain, I generally hoard these monster parts for upgrades rather than attaching them to weapons. In the depths I fought in another coliseum filled with bokoblins and the reward was Midna's Helmet, which aside from looking cool has a neat effect of giving you some gloom resistance.
I cleared all the pirates from Lurerin Village, but had to search for a bit since several were hiding in a well. I only found them because of the smoke coming out of it. The mayor and the obviously gay architect Bolson thank Link for his help and start the rebuilding process. Bolson needs non-palm tree logs and Hylian rice for the roofs. At Kakariko village I reported all the stone tablets I found in the Sky, which give more background to what happened in the past. At Rito village I completed a shrine quest which was in a rather well hidden cave. You can completely miss it unless you follow the hint of watching where the shadow of the peak above the village falls in the morning. Back to Kakariko, I talked to Koyin - the girl I previously helped to get a secret recipe from her grandfather. It turns out that she rediscovered cheese. Koyin obviously has the hots for Link - it's nice to have more options considering Zelda is a dragon. I don't think Link would mind a quite life with a hardworking farm girl. In the depths I discovered another green hat for Link - the Cap of the Wind. I thought I had 2 items from his classic costume set, but it turns out they've put a lot of costumes from previous games. I also discovered another repeat boss - the Mucktorok, who was more of a problem since I didn't have a sapphire-infused Master Sword or a water staff this time around, so I had to rely on Sidon's power and a ton of water arrows. The reward wasn't worth the effort since you just get 100 crystalised charges and no rare part to attach to your weapons. After all these adventures I got enough rice, so I returned to Lurerin village. It turns out that Bolson wanted literal logs rather than wood I have in my inventory, so I had to go chop some trees.
While exploring the depths, I encountered Master Kohga again. He was trying to activate the constructs, but failing miserably. This time around he uses a plane to fight you. He's tough to hit since he's constantly moving and your arrows may not reach him, but having Keese eyeballs attached to them makes them homing, making the fight much easier. Then I discovered a Coliseum where you have to fight a bunch of Horriblins, but the reward is pretty cool - Sheik's Mask. Then I found Master Kohga again. This time you fight him in a boat battle. This fight is pretty easy - you just have to fire Yunobo at his boat and then board it and deal damage. I suppose if you don't have Yunobo this fight may be much more difficult. The final mine-site where Kohga is hiding is where I followed a statue trail leading into some rocks. Back then I thought I could blow open a path with some bombs, but that failed miserably. After circling the cliffs I couldn't find an entrance, so I went back to the surface and you discover a secret chasm underneath Rito village leading you to Kohga's location. This time you have a mech battle with him. Similar to the one against the corrupted construct, you have to push him to the borders, but this time around there is no gloom on the floor making this fight easier. Plus you have to deal damage when he falls from his mech. When you defeat him Kohga summons a huge rocket construct and blows himself away, likely into space. Here you earn a schematic for a rocket-powered floating platform, which could be very useful to quickly get some verticality. I managed to upgrade the slip resistant armour to the max, which will be very useful. From some merchants I learned that their home town of Lurelin was infested by monsters and I headed there to liberate them.

Link eventually reached the Spirit Temple. Unlike all the others you don't need to activate 4 switches here, but you go straight into a boss battle against a mech Mineru built, but was taken over by Ganon - this seems to be a pattern between this and the previous game. You have to fight it on your mech because the floor is covered by gloom (plus your attacks don't do any damage. You have to push it away to the edges, which are electrified. During the second stage of the fight you have to have at least one hand with a projectile weapon to take down the enemy robot while it's flying. Once you figure out when to block, this fight isn't too difficult. Then Mineru comes out of the Purah pad (somehow she's been there the whole time) and finally shows you the memory of how Ganon got sealed by Rauru. Got to give it to the space goat - that was pretty badass. What I don't appreciate is him letting Ganon know about Link - pretty stupid move painting a target on the poor elf's back - not cool, bro. Then you get Mineru's secret stone and the mech start following you like all the other sage shadows. In the depths I faced my first Lynel. He had stone armour and was even more terrifying than I remember. Each hit reduces your max HP sine he's infused with Gloom. Riding him doesn't seem like a good strategy since he drained all my stamina and eventually threw me off. He has ranged attacks - both breathing fireballs at you and using his bow - he's very fast and him being a damage sponge doesn't help either. I barely beat him by spamming him with bomb arrows, which don't even slow him down. This is by far the toughest enemy I've faced in the game. Then I completed a quest where you have to throw 4 stone eyes from the surface into 4 chasms and then bring them to a statue in the depths. A word of advice - first throw them all and then bring them or throw and place them in the statue (which I didn't know it existed in the beginning), because even if you leave them in the temple above, the progress won't be saved and you have to do it all over again. Transporting each eye involves creating some sort of a vehicle, but at least the game gives you the materials and makes it somewhat obvious. Thankfully restoring the statue was worth it since the reward was either a heart or stamina vessel and you can buy all the gear you have discovered in the depths for poes. The unique Tunic of the Depths the statue sells gives you some gloom resistance, which could be useful.

Behind a vitality door, which requires at least 10 hearts, Link finds a mask pointing him to the surface. You must build a plane and take it to the spot. This unfortunately leads to an elevator, bringing Link down to the depths. There Mineru reveals that she no longer has a body, so you have to construct one for her. To do so, you must obtain 4 parts - 2 legs and 2 arms - from temples near you. Each temple requires the utilisation of the Ultrahand and building some contraption to get the part to the construction spot. Some of the puzzles are quite creative while others are a bit fiddly. When you build the construct body for Mineru, she now needs her secret stone, which is rather far away. You can actually ride this mech and customise it by equipping weapons or zonai devices to both its hands and back. The former are used for combat, while the latter is used for mobility - for example attaching a fan, allows the mech to run faster. You are also unaffected by gloom while riding it, so it make make depths exploration less of a pain.
Purah heard about the battle with Ganon and the fake Zelda and she figured that there is one more sage to help Link - Rauru's sister. Of course it's up to Linky to figure this shit out. I went to Kakariko village, where I was finally allowed to investigate the giant floating rings. There I found a clue to search for Mineru in the Faron Grasslands. There I discovered another big Goddess statue, who wanted the claw of Faroush, which I didn't have since I only got his horn, so I guess I'll have to hunt him down at some point. I had to collect a full set of a Zonai electric armour and conduct a ritual of offering a Zonai charge at an alter. This cleared up the sky and revealed another set of floating islands. There isn't any gimmick to them aside from lightning constantly falling all over the place, so it's advisable to have non-metal shield, bow and weapon.

One of the Zelda sightings quests saw the return of the flower shrine woman - Magda. She was apparently tasked by Zelda to raise a garden. Then I discovered a giant horse and managed to tame him, but he doesn't have a dash, so he isn't particularly useful. He was a requirement for a shrine quest by a person who wanted to see him. Then Link had 2 endurance contests with some weirdo in the Gerudo region. You basically have to survive the night and the day exposed to the elements without any equipment. The way to deal with this is to have food raising your cold and heat resistance. Then I defeated the pirate in the Akkala Sea for a different quest. Then I was in luck since I finally managed to get Naydra's Claw for the Goddess Statue, but the reward was frankly pathetic - just a single sapphire. She did inform me that there are 2 more statues like her, connected to the Mother Goddess statue, so maybe once all 3 are completed you'll get something nice. Finally back to the main quest, Purah spotted Zelda in Hyrule Castle again, so I Link was sent there to investigate. Each time you get close to her, she disappears and monsters attack you. The monsters here are pretty tough, but they do drop some great equipment. I also discovered that the Zelda dragon shards give a weapon healing properties when fused. Then to the surprise of no one the Zelda you've been seeing all over the place has been a puppet of Ganon. She transforms into 5 Phantom Ganons and you have to face them in a boss battle. They are not too bad now that you know how to fight them and you have the sage shadows at your side. Plus each one drops Ganon's powerful weapons and dies much quicker than a regular Phantom Ganon you find in the wild. When you defeat them, Ganon unleashes that cheap attack from the beginning of the game, but this time around the sages come in and protect you. He then disappears and our heroes decide to regroup.

In the Temple of Time ruins, where I previously met the King of Hyrule, I found a bigger Hylia statue, who said she was trapped underwater. After a lot of searching thanks to the vague instructions, I eventually discovered a blocked gate forming a natural dam. Removing the stones frees the water and you see one of those statues which you exchange poes for. Then when you get back to the Hylia one you get an extra objective of delivering 4 eyes to the mysterious entity in the Depths, but I didn't have the time to implement this task. Then I reached the Sky portion of the South Lomei Labyrinth and much like the others I had to activate 4 switches and then fight a Flux Construct in the Depths. This rewarded me with a mask inspired by Ganon, thus completing the set. Although cool looking the stealth ability and the proficiency in bone weapons aren't very useful, because they break very quickly. I also discovered Colgera - the wind temple boss - in the Depths. The fight wasn't any different, as in it was rather easy, bu the reward was underwhelming - you get Colgera's jaw, which you can fuse to a weapon the a chest giving you 100 crystallised charges. It would've been better if the reward was a Sage's Will, which I haven't discovered again past the initial 4. Surprisingly you can actually find dragons in the Depths. I spotted Farosh - the electric dragon and got a bunch of his spikes plus a piece of his horn. Getting materials from him is much easier than the ice and fire dragons since you can freely walk on his back - you just have to avoid the rather slow moving electric charges.
Having completing several Zelda sighting quests which didn't lead anywhere, I decided to finally see what the last dragon tear will show. It was a flashback of Zelda eating her secret stone and turning into the light dragon. This was nice, but it was already known, so no new information was provided. This de-confirms my theory about the other dragons being the sages since they haven't eaten their secret stones. Then I completed the Sky section of the Lomei Labyrinth, which like the other one required pressing 4 switches and opened the gates to the depths, where you had to defeat a Flux Construct. The reward was Ganon's armour. Then I reached the South Lomei labyrinth in the Gerudo canyon and solved its ground portion.
The puzzles in the Lightning Temple were quite creative, but there were too many floors leading to some confusion. After activating the 4 switches you get to face the Queen Gibdo again. This time around she has reinforcements by spawning 4 nests, so prioritising destroying those is advisable. It's a tough fight, but nothing unmanageable. Then Riju gets her secret stone and we get to hear once more about the imprisoning war against Ganon. Her power is OK, but it takes a while to charge. Activating it before you go into battle is a good strategy. With the defeat of the queen the sandstorm is lifted from Gerudo desert and all the women can go back to the surface (unfortunately). While wandering around I managed to get up to the fire dragon Dinraal and get his claw. Staying near it makes you take inevitable fire damage. Perhaps if you have the full Goron armour set you may get complete fire protection. I do wonder if the elemental dragons are the other sages and they did something similar to Zelda. I also found Tarrey Town, which has a very useful service of separating previously fused weapons or shields without destroying the materials. I finally managed to separate the star fragment from the staff and use it as an upgrade material for Link's classic green cap. Tarrey is also the HQ of Hudson Construction with Hudson himself having trouble with his daughter, but I will leave that side quest for after saving the world from evil.

Link is put in charge of the defence of Gerudo Village, meaning he has to decide where to put up barricades and place the different warriors. The way I reasoned it was that the north gate led straight to the shelter, so that one needed the barricades and the support of a cannon. The east and west gates I put spear and sword wielding soldiers to slow down the Gibdos until Link gets there. I prepared by fusing the Master Sword with a ruby making it throw flames and equipped a zonai shield fused with a flame emitter. When the battle started Riju will use her electric field and I found it best used against the hives spawning enemies (which were a priority to take down) and the flying Gibdo. This strategy led to a somewhat easy victory, but I guess it depends when you decide to tackle this particular mission. Link then has to solve a puzzle in the Gerudo desert by connecting 3 towers with light beams. By doing so he uncovers the Lightning Temple in the middle of the triangle. When he and Riju go there they are attacked by the Queen Gibdo - a giant moth-like monster. She functions in a similar manner to the regular Gibdos - you have to hit her with an elemental attack (Riju's lightning being the most convenient) in order to damage her. After a brief fight she escapes to the top of the Temple and you have to do the regular thing of activating switches to proceed. I briefly returned to Hyrule for some upgrades when I spotted Kilton - the creature, who buys monster parts off of you. It turns out his brother Koltin is collecting Bubbul gems (the ones you get from the giant glowing frogs in the caves) to turn into a Satori (the glowing rabbit-like creature). He can give you monster armour used for disguises when you trade said gems with him.
Solving the sky portion of the Lomei labyrinth involved activating 4 switches. The challenge is to get to them by flying around, but as long as you are able to trace the path it's not too difficult. This then removes the barrier for the depths portion of the labyrinth. The layout there is not very complicated, but you have to face a Flux Construct. When you defeat it, you are rewarded with Ganon's pants. I guess you have to solve all labyrinths to get the complete set. Returning to the sky a construct issued a diving challenge, which wasn't too difficult. Upon completing it, you are rewarded with the Glide Tights, giving you better control when falling. Then I decided to go to Gerudo village and get the final sage, but not before buying some heat-resistant head-gear. The entirety of the area is covered in a sand shroud, so you have to keep the right direction to get there (plus the map doesn't work, so you can't cheat). All the inhabitants of Gerudo have gone underground to protect themselves from the sand storm and to avoid monsters called Gibdo. They are pretty resistant to physical attacks, so you have to hit them with either fire or lightning to seriously damage them. After finding your way into the shelter (since you are not allowed inside as a man) you meet Buliara, who hasn't forgotten you and gives you a special permission to be there. Eventually you meet Riju - the queen of the Gerudo, who is training her lightning powers to fight the Gibdos. Her power generates an electric field and when you shoot an arrow she'll enhance it with a lightning strike. The field takes a while to spread, so it'll be less effective against long-range foes, but it works wonders on close groups of enemies. Riju asks Link to help her with the defence of the town.
Yunobo and Link followed fake Zelda to the top of Death Mountain and then a giant 3-headed rock monster emerged from there. You have to take a plane and attack it with Yunobo's roll. Then our heroes jumped into Death Mountain and found the Fire Temple. Unfortunately my capture card crapped out and those bits weren't recorded, so you'll have to take my word for it. The Fire Temple itself is a weird one - you have to use mine carts to move around it, but the design is really confusing. In the end I mostly used my regular powers to get to the switches. As per usual once all of them are activated you have to fight a boss and this one was Marbled Gohma - a spider-like creature. Contrary to the temple, this battle was actually really interesting. You have to break its legs in order to climb on top of it to damage it. It throws rocks at you, so you either have to use Yunobo's roll or be creative and utilise the Ultra Hand or the reverse abilities. When you defeat it Yunobo becomes the next sage and you can use his powers. He was the worst one from the new champions from Breath of the Wild and a major downgrade from Daruk. Then all the marble rock roast disappears and the Gorons are saved. I managed to create the Boulder Breaker, which is one of the best smashing weapons from the previous game. I also got the Sensor+ from Robbie, where you can track any object which you have a picture of. Finally, with some dicking around in the Sky I reached the Sky variant of the Lomei Labyrinth.
"Things are only impossible until they're not."
Hey everyone! I'm back from....somewhere. Things look just as bad as they were when I left. But Fear Not! Light is returning to the Land.
So I decided to bring back THE MASTER SWORD. What with the millions upon millions of us bringing Light to the Depths in Tears of the Kingdom I thought it would be the best time to remember the beginning of the Legend. This shall be the new format going forward. There will always be the Long Mixes like RISE and DESTINATION UNKNOWN where I'll work on a song here and there with visuals and stuff, but if I were to do that with every song on this Channel it would take a thousand years. So this is going to be the format for most of the rest of the mixes on the Channel.
So let's get started! Below is the original blurb I wrote for this mix.
THE MASTER SWORD is a story based mix which recounts the events of Skyward Sword and the beginning of The Legend of Zelda. It tells of the forging of the Master Sword, the creation of Hyrule, and the great battle with Demise, the first Demon King. Special thanks go out to Nintendo, who created this amazing world which so many have experienced and loved over the last 38 years.

I reached Goron city where most gorons were high on marbled rock roast. There I met Yunobo, who turns out to be the one extracting it. He's behaving like an asshole, but it turns out that the mask he was wearing was used by evil Zelda to control him. You fight him, break the mask and he comes to his senses. Then he decides to follow obviously fake Zelda and you can use him as a cannonball to break rocks. He's obviously going to be the next sage and his power would be really useful when exploring caves. One thing to note is that you don't really need the Flamebreaker armour in Goron City, but only when you get closer to Death Mountain, which is an improvement from the previous game.
Entered the North Lomei Labyrinth and was attacked by gloom hands. Upon bombarding them to death another phantom Ganon appeared and this one had a sword. Perhaps it was my extra defence from the armour, but him not killing me in 2 hits made him rather easy, plus a singe flurry rush from a Master Sword fused with a Bokoblin's arm murdered hum. Reach the centre of the labyrinth unlocked a door in the sky version of it much like the other one. Then I met Robbie at his new lab and he added some pretty useful functions to the Purah pad including a sensor which detects shrines (and then other items, which you have in your gallery) and a travel medallion, which is a custom teleportation point, very useful in explorations. After that I revisited a Hylia statue, which wanted the ice dragon's Naydra's claw, which I managed to get while freezing my ass off. Or so I thought until I realised that I only have the scale, meaning that you have to hit it at a specific spot to get the claw, which is a pain considering the dragons randomly appear and you may not have the chance to have enough verticality to catch up to them. An interesting thing that happened was the glowing horse creature showing me the locations of caves in the area I was in when I made an offering under a cherry blossom tree. Speaking of horses, I freed the horse god Malanya by feeding him an edura carrot. He can revive your horses should they die and can even upgrade them, but he requests different meals as payment, which is a pain since you have to find the recipe, prepare them specifically and then come back to him. In a game where you can teleport, glide everywhere and even create your own vehicles, it doesn't seem to be worth it.

While exploring a cave, I used ascend to get out, but ended up in a room with a lot of gloom, where I was attacked by the gloom hands and then by another Phantom Ganon. This one was wielding a club and his moves were generally easier to avoid than the sword variation, so he wasn't a big problem. It turns out I was under the Lomei Labyrinth, which had a shrine and a switch at the heart of it. When activated the switch opened some sort of a door in the sky version of said labyrinth. Then I explored the depths for a while which was tedious, but at least I found the Cap of the Hero, which is Link's classic green hat. I also managed to upgrade my energy wells with all the crystallised charges I managed to buy.
The brand new Legend of Zelda game Tears of the Kingdom is finally out on Nintendo Switch! Breath of the Wild is probably my favorite modern Zelda game, so I was excited to jump into the sequel. These are just my early first impressions from launch weekend!
Completed two more Great Fairy related quests. First I managed to get the band's horn player out of a hole he fell in and then lured the fairy out of her pod. I upgraded the Tunic of the Wind twice making it one of my best armours. Then I found the piper of the Stable Trotters, who was trying to impress a girl by creating a glowing tree with fireflies, which you must find for him. Luckily I had just enough. Then I transported the band to the last fairy by transforming their wagon into a tough terrain vehicle. I really enjoyed these musical quests - they gave each member a personality and it was a cool way to unlock the fairies. Then I reached Robbie's old lab which was occupied by the Yiga clan. After I murdered them I found some Yiga armour granting you extra stealth and a Travel Medallion Prototype.

I completed a really funny sidequest where Link had to help a group of soldiers who were apparently instructed by Zelda to fight in their underwear. Apparently Ganon (or the Yiga clan) have a sense of humour. Then in a chasm I fought an Obsidian Frox - a big frog-like monster, which functions similar to a Talus, where you have to bring it down then hit the rocks on its back. You can stun it by throwing bombs in its mouth. After a bunch of fruitless exploration of the depths, I resurfaced and discovered another geoglyph memory. This one showed how Ganon actually killed queen Sonia. You know, I actually somewhat admire his ambition and detest the stupidity of the royal family. He managed to trick them despite being completely underpowered. In another memory we see Zelda talking to Rauru and Sonia about how great Link is, which is nice. This was apparently the last geoglyph since dragon-Zelda shed a tear, which became the objective of the quest.

Found a geoglyph where Ganon swears fealty to Rauru, who stupidly accepts it with the reasoning to "keep your enemies closer" that's incredibly arrogant and stupid, especially since this happens after Ganon's assault on Hyrule. Also is Zelda not smart enough to recognise him as the monster who attacked her in the beginning of the game. Apparently not. Now it's up to Link to fix the royal family's fuck ups. Then in a sky sphere I found another Sage's Will after solving a light puzzle. With 4 in hand I was able to upgrade my bond with Tulin, which increased his damage. I didn't know what that would do, but I made the correct choice since his sniping shots are very useful in combat. In a pretty tough combat against a Flux construct, which was much more aggressive than usual I found that if you remove enough cubes from it with the Ultrahand it falls apart and makes it easier to deal damage.
Found a geoglyph, which showed the creation of the sages. Basically Rauru was convinced that he can't face Ganon alone, so he gave each race a secret stone. While in the sky I made a pretty cool plane and tried to reach a remote floating island, but it turns out that the wing device itself also has durability and it broke before I could reach it. I powered through with gliding only to find out that this island is the domain of a 3-headed dragon, which takes 13+ hearts in one hit. In another floating island with a pond I found some fairies, which are great since they give you a resurrection. I managed to free another Great Fairy, but first I had to find the drummer of the band and then transform their carriage into a boat to get them to her pod. She managed to upgrade some of my equipment, which increases the overall defence. Hopefully I won't be losing that many hearts now. Then I explored the depths for a bit, where I found the Tunic of the Wind, which is Link's classic green costume. I also managed to gather enough zonaite to upgrade my energy well giving me more power when operating the zonai devices.
The Water temple had a similar structure to the Wind one - you have to activate 5 switches with Sidon's power before fighting a boss, which was the source of the sludge. The boss itself is a literal mud shark (accidentally based). Once you hit it with enough water attacks a little gremlin is revealed and you have to damage it while it's exposed. I had an Opal attached to the Master Sword (a really neat way to upgrade it), which made things easier, but water arrows are just as effective. Once you defeat it, you see a vision of the Water Sage, who tells you pretty much the same story as the Wind one did, which makes sense since you can do the temples in whatever order you want. Sidon receives a secret stone and he lends you his power, where a shadow Sidon is following you around. You can activate the different sage powers depending on which character is closer to you. Then Link and Sidon return to the Zora domain, Sidon is pronounced king and Link is celebrated with honours. Then I found a really wet cave, which was a bitch to climb and I had to use a slip resistance potion, which doesn't make you completely immune. There I found the Climber's Bandanna - one of the best pieces of equipment from the first game, since it accelerates your climbing speed. Then I did a bunch of side quests and shrines.

To solve the riddle I got some scales from king Dorephan and then looked for the Sky Fish by exploring the skies above the Zora domain. When I opened the map I saw a floating island, which does look like a fish. When I got there I had to solve the next part of the riddle and find a drop-shaped stone, but it turns out that it's a collection of floating rocks which form the droplet. I shot an arrow with one of king Dorephan's scales at it and it landed in a lake which created a pillar of light. I travelled there, but nothing really happened, so I returned to inform Sidon but then he was suddenly attacked by a Sludge Like monster. Link starts fighting alongside Sidon and you can use his power like that of Tulin. Sidon's power gives you a water shield, which can absorb one hit and sends a wave of water when you strike. This is particularly useful against this boss, since you have to clear the sludge on it and around you before you can damage it - having a Opal-powered weapon helps a lot. When you defeat it, Yona encourages Sidon to help Link on his mission and despite worrying about his wife and the people, the Zora prince returns to his overly enthusiastic self. It was a great character moment and I'm glad that Sidon is obviously the next sage. I was slightly worried that they will go for Yona, but it's nice to see some characters from the previous game retaining their relevance. Sidon in particular was my favourite companion from Breath of the Wild. In any case he creates a whirlpool around the pillar of light, which opens the way to some underwater ruins. There Link activates a switch, which summons a waterfall from the sky. Both he and Sidon go up it to a collection of floating islands leading to the Water Temple. Here the gravity is a bit different and your jumps are more floaty. You also have to deal with sludge and water bubbles, which allow you to swim in them as they are travelling. After a ton of platforming and a particularly tricky shrine I reached the Water Temple.

My man Sidon was busy purifying the water going into the Zora domain, but he was still happy to see Link. I restored a stone tablet, which provided a riddle on how to reach the Water Temple. I got distracted and went into the sky, where I faced a Flux Construct - a boss monster made entirely of cubes. It looks intimidating, but it's not too difficult once you figure out its attack patterns and weak spot. Defeating it gave me a treasure map for a place in the depths and the flux construct core, which I fused to a weapon giving it a major boost in power. Then I solved a really fiddly puzzle where you had to shoot a shrine crystal out of a window in a sphere with some springs. The problem is that you can't really see where the crystal is going once you shoot it, so you don't know what to adjust, but I eventually got it. A rather interesting combat shrine had me utilise some combat drones, which automatically attack enemies within their range. You can also attach flamethrowers, cannons and lasers to them, but the problem is that those can hurt you as well.
Reached Zora's domain, which is having troubles with sludge falling from the sky. You can clear it with water by using Splash fruits. There you meet Yona - Sidon's future wife, who gives you the Zora armour allowing you to swim up waterfalls. There was also a great statue of Link and Sidon - in both realms I've been so far Link is welcomed as a hero, which is great to see. A lot of games adopt the "what have you done for me lately" attitude. Then I found King Dorephan behind a waterfall. He was recovering from a battle with a monster Zelda unleashed on them. There's definitely something fishy about all those Zelda appearances - pun intended.

I followed Impa to a temple containing all the locations of the geoglyphs, which wasn't anything special, but apparently something will happen when I collect them all. Speaking of, I found another one with Zelda being whiney as usual and basically revealing the future to Rauru, that he won't survive the fight with Ganon. Like a true king he accepted his fate and decided to try regardless. For a Time guardian Zelda is pretty dumb - she could've caused a paradox there.
After failing to get into Korok forest by gliding into it I decided to follow a path to its entrance. There I found a new stable and a musical troupe, who revealed that Zelda scared away the Great Fairies. You repair their cart and take them to the pod and once they play a melody the Great Fairy Tera emerged. She explained how Zelda told her to hide and then gives you the option to (finally) upgrade your equipment. Like in the previous game the more fairies you free, the more upgrades become available. Then I reached the entrance of Korok forest, but the mist still threw me out. I decided to go down a chasm and explore the depths for a bit. Eventually I found a temple of some sort and after using Ascend I found myself in Korok forest right in front of the Deku Tree.
Unfortunately it and all the Koroks in the area were paralysed likely due to the gloom. I fell down a hole thinking that I would find some way to purify the forest, but I was then attacked by gloom hands again. Usually they disappear after a while, but not this time. It dawned on me that I had to defeat them to free the Deku tree. I tried several different strategies, but fighting them with melee weapons is next to impossible since they'll immediately grab you and the gloom itself destroys your health. I then decided to use what worked last time I killed them and fire bomb arrows at them. This did the trick, but unfortunately Phantom Ganon appeared. He's a nightmare to deal with. He's immune to freezing and fire (I tried) and deals a truckload of damage. I managed to counter him once, but it didn't activate flurry rush. I wouldn't recommend fighting him with melee weapons either since when he stands in one spot gloom quickly starts spreading destroying your health again. What worked for me were again the bomb arrows. Each explosion briefly stuns him giving you a chance to fire another shot. After several tries I eventually won this way. It was cheap, but so was he, so I don't feel too bad. I recommend having a good bow before facing him and a shitton of bombs. The forest was now cured and all the Koroks returned to normal. Hestu appeared and I finally got to upgrade my weapon and shield slots. It's pretty insane to think that you actually have to face Phantom Ganon before having a reliable place to do that. A bit of a difficulty spike and a poor design decision in my view. The great Deku tree said that he feels the presence of the Master Sword in the air.
After doing some quests for the Koroks I decided to check out where the Master Sword is located and it turns out it was in the head of a dragon, which turns out to be Zelda, as some of the memories implied. She used her powers to repair it. In order to take it out you need a lot of stamina and you can't cheat with stamina filling or enhancing potions or food. I went back to the demon statue and exchanged a lot of my health for stamina, returned to the Zelda dragon, who seems to be moving around the map and after a struggle I obtained the Master Sword. Finally I rebalanced my health and stamina before continuing the adventure.

While visiting Kakariko village Link met the best waifu from the previous game - Paya. She's now promoted as the village chief and is in charge of examining the ring ruins which fell from the sky. Apparently Zelda materialised and prevented the investigation of one ruin in particular and there's an apparatchik preventing you to go near it. I still think that Ganon is using Zelda's image to manipulate everyone, but that remains to be seen. Then I tried to fight a 3-headed ice dragon, but it one-shot me, so I'm apparently still underlevelled. In the two memories I unlocked from geoglyphs Zelda apparently plans to fix the Master Sword by turning into a dragon, so she may be one of the ones I saw flying about. Near Death mountain the Gorons are drugged up with a new stoned called marbled rock roast, which makes them addicted to it. In the sky I found a chest containing a new item - Sage's Will, which can be used to upgrade the Sage's abilities, like the one I got from Tulin, but unfortunately I need 4 of those to actually get one. Later on I spotted Addison holding one of those signs and if you actually manage to balance it using the available materials, he gives you some pretty good rewards.
After solving a rather tricky Skyview tower by going under it and using the Ascend ability since the door was jammed I unlocked another memory from a geoglyph. This one was of Ganon before becoming the Demon King attacking Hyrule with his Gerudo army including a swarm of Molduga. Then Rauru appeared and unleashed Tien's Tri-Beam (or Kikouhou) on Ganon's army. He even had a third eye to boot. Then I explored the depths a bit and found a temple. There one of the constructs taught Link how to use Autobuild. It keeps a record of your creations and you can instantly make them again if you have the necessary materials near you. It would've been really useful, but it requires Zonaite to use, so until you are making some really complex things, it's not really worth it for simple builds. Then the explorers in the temple turned out to the Yiga spies and you have to face their boss Master Kohga in battle. He uses a vehicle to try to run you over. When you deal enough damage to him, he disappears and his tank is more protected. When you defeat him he escapes and moves to another temple somewhere in the depths.

Found another memory in a geoglyph and it was a spicy one - Ganon stole Sonia's stone and upgraded himself, now being able to summon multiple monsters and fire the dark energy, which broke the Master Sword. Zelda then teleports herself, Sonia's body and Rauru away from the Demon King. Then I went back to the outpost, where a cleaning lady complained about voices behind the wall,. It turned out to be a demonic statue, which stole one of my hearts. This bastard was in the previous game as well, serving the function to balance your stamina and health and he's the same here, but he take rupees for his service. I then explored the caves, which involved a lot of rock smashing and eventually found a Stalnox under some rocks. I discovered some new armour, but it was mostly pointless. After that I completed several shrines and explored for a while.

After a bunch of platforming Link and Tulin reached the eye of the storm, which turned out to be Wind Temple or the Stormwind Arc of legend, which you heard about in the village. You need to explore it a bit to release locks holding a hatch on the deck closed, which seemingly contains the source of the storm. You use Tulin's gust power to do so. Once you open the hatch a huge icy bug named Colgera comes out and you have to fight it. It's a clever, but fairy easy boss battle - you just have to dodge its tornadoes, and hit its weak spots either by using your bow, or just ramming into them. When you defeat it, you get a heart container as a reward and you meet the Wind Sage - a warrior who served under Rauru. He tells the story of the Imprisoning War against Ganon and how the Demon King was too powerful for the sages and Rauru had to sacrifice himself to imprison him. The Wind Sage gave Tulin his secret stone amplifying his abilities. Link and Tulin form a pact and Link now has a ring, which can summon a shadow clone of Tulin into battle and to use his gust ability at any time. Then both return to Rito village where the storm is subdued. The enemies in this game are definitely tougher than in the previous one, but this will balance out if you are able to summon 4 sages to battle with you at any time.

Found another memory of Zelda talking to Sonia and Rauru about the future she comes from in a geoglyph. Then I reached Rito village and saw some familiar faces from Breath of the Wild, including the chicks who were singing a song for a sidequest and Teba - the Rito warrior who helped you in the first game. His son, who you helped save, is now all grown up and is very appreciative. It's nice to see these friendships solidified. You follow Tulin into the mountains, since he storms out because he's still being treated like a child. When you catch up you utilise his power to create a stream of wind to get around. Link and Tulin then head to the source of the storm freezing Rito village high in the clouds.

Link meets up with Impa who has been investigating geoglyphs - strange shapes in the landscape that appeared in Hyrule after the incident. While examining it, Link found a strange pool of liquid, which gave him a vision of Zelda who met Rauru and his queen Sonia in the past, confirming my theory. At least Link didn't get cucked by the goat man, which was a possibility. Then I met Hestu, who serves the same function as in the previous games - expanding your inventory slots in exchange for Korok seeds, unfortunately after upgrading my weapon capacity by 2 he disappeared. I may need to visit Korok forest, but my guess is that I'm a bit underlevelled for that. Then I registered a horse at the stable and entered a cave. Another one of those gloom monstrosities attacked me, but I had the high ground and bombarded it until it died. To my surprise then a Phantom Ganon appeared, teleported like an anime villain and killed me in one hit. I'm not messing with that until I have better equipment. Back at the stable I found that all the horses I registered in Breath of the Wild are available, which is great since I got some really good ones. Then I activated a tower and went into the depths vie a chasm. There I discovered a statue going into the rocks. I found some time activated bombs nearby and struggled to bring them to the statue in order to open the entrance. Eventually I fused a sword to one of those timebombs and tried exploding it, but that did nothing to the statue, so I gave up on that endeavour.

Purah activated the Skyview towers across Hyrule. They help you update the map of the area once activated. Unlike Breath of the Wild, you don't have to climb them, but instead you are launched into the sky and scan the area. Then you dive and get back to the ground, which is a useful method to reach high places, especially since you got your paraglider back from Purah. Then Josha (Purah's young assistant) wanted to see a statue located in the depths, but since it was too dangerous for her to go Robbie suggested that he and Link should take a picture instead. I dived into a chasm and discovered that there's a whole underground world, filled with unique creatures, resources and tons of bloom. If you step on said bloom or one of the bloom creatures hit you, they destroy part of your max HP and you need to be restored by a Lightroot to get it back. To avoid that you will have to use a lot of blightbloom seeds to make the area brigther. Link takes the picture and gains the Camera function of the Purah pad. It's amazing to think that this game is nearly 3 times the size of Breath of the Wild with a sky and underground maps mirroring Hyrule. Then I activated another Skyview tower by infiltrating a fort and completed several more shrines which serve as tutorials on how to use different materials like pins and the air balloons.
Link and Purah finally met up. In this game she's aged up a bit. She's a very quirky and fun character and it's a shame she wasn't a bigger part of Breath of the Wild. Purah sends you to Hyrule Castle to inform the search party for Link and Zelda about the situation. I of course got distracted and completed several shrines and uncovered a cave with lots of valuable resources in it. Unfortunately it also housed a Talus. Maybe it's my imagination, but they are much more brutal in this game, since they can one-shot you. Perhaps I didn't encounter one in BotW until I had upgraded by health and gear, but still. After several attempts I got into rhythm, targeted its weak spot and managed to defeat it. Some weapons are more effective than others against the stone, in particular maces, so creating some with the Fuse ability is essential. Same goes when you mine materials. Before reaching Hyrule Castle I was attacked by a gloom monstrosity, which was a stressful experience. The area is much safer than in BotW, but still has some hidden dangers. At the castle Link saw Zelda, but she turned into a light particle and ascended to the sky.

Before entering the Temple of Time I saved a Korok I missed initially, because of my gaming OCD. I must say that I'm not a fan of the Wing Zonai device - unless you have a good slope to launch it, it's very fiddly to actually utilise it - even combining it with a fan doesn't produce the desired results. I really wish I had my glider. In any case in the Temple of Time Link sees a vision of Zelda, who gives him the Recall ability, allowing you to reverse the movements of non-living objects. You can't leave the temple since there's a door requiring certain vitality, so you have to complete yet another shrine to get one more Light of Blessing and offer it to the goddess Hylia to upgrade your vitality. Fast travel is unlocked to do so, which would've been useful for the Korok mission, but whatever. When Link exits the Temple, he places the broken Master Sword at an altar and somehow Zelda gets it. If I'm to hazard a guess she's somehow in the past since Rauru seems to know her and she has told him stories about Link. Given that he's a ghost now, it makes sense that we're in the present. Link then falls (rather daringly) down to Hyrule. Things have changed on the surface - there are huge pits filled with evil energy (gloom) and moblins are more of a threat than I remember. There are also new monsters the most surprising of all being walking trees. After completing several shrines I headed to an outpost where I met Robbie and I had to talk to Purah.
The long awaited sequel to The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is here and I gave it a try. The game starts with Link and Zelda exploring the catacombs under Hyrule Castle. Zelda's father warned her to not go there, but I guess the rest of the game won't happen if she listened to him (plus she had to investigate some mysterious energy emanating from there, which is making people sick). You learn that there was a race of sky people called Zonai, who joined the Hylian royal family, but then after some sort of a treason the Demon King Ganon waged war against both. Speaking of the main antagonist, Link and Zelda find his body and he inconveniently awakes. Ganon unleashes an attack and while Link tries to protect Zelda, he loses most of his heart containers and the Master Sword is broken. That last one actually hurt considering how much time it took me to get it in Breath of the Wild. Zelda then falls into a chasm and Link is saved by a mysterious hand which was keeping Ganon sealed. When Link wakes up his arm is replaced with it and he's located on a floating island high above Hyrule. These islands are populated by robots, some doing regular tasks like gathering resources, but some are hostile. When you reach the Temple of Time Rauru - the owner of the arm and one of the Zonai appears. He explains that you need to purify your arm in order to enter the temple and directs you to shrines to do so.
In terms of gameplay if you are familiar with Breath of the Wild the mechanics are the same - you have your stamina bar, which is used for combat, running and climbing, you can gather resources and cook and you have breakable weapons, shields and bows. Where things start to differ is the powers you posses. After Link lost everything (so that the hero's journey can happen) there are a bunch of new abilities he gets from the shrines. The first is the Ultrahand - a telekinetic power, which not only allows you to move certain objects in the environment like logs, stones and platforms, but attach them together forming ways to get to new places like ladders, boats and more. A lot of the puzzles in the game involve creating something to proceed. I'm a bit limited in my imagination, but I got the hang of it.
Next is the Fuse ability, which allows you to attach different objects to your shields, weapons and arrows. This can improve their stats, create an entirely new weapon in terms of physical properties and utilise the materials you collect to quickly use a fire or a bomb arrow. I've noticed that the construct enemies can also use that ability. This somewhat elevates the issue of the easily breakable weapons, since Fuse also increases their durability.
There are special objects you ca find in the environment called Zonai devices. Those include fans, flame emitters and wings. They are created with a mineral called zonaite and can help you make special constructs and require energy to function. You activate them by hitting them (in most cases).
The final new power is the Ascend, allowing you to jump to the surfaces directly above you and pass through them teleporting on top, which can save you a lot of climbing.
The entire first area serves as a giant tutorial. So far I'm loving the new abilities, but some returning issues like the limited inventory are noticeable.
