The amazon synod happening in Rome 2019 is leaving some with the impression that there are many paths to heaven, that local traditions and indigenous believes are part of God’s revelation, that Catholic Salvation consistence in celebrating the diversity of religions, and that we have a reasonable hope all are saved. The message coming out of Rome seems confusing.

Is Amazon Paganism accepted in Rome? Does God actively will the diversity of world religions? The Catholic Church has always taught that Jesus Christ is mankind only Saviour. There is no other. He established the Catholic Church which offers the full means of salvation. There is no such thing as a privilege way to heaven, or a preferred way to heaven. Jesus was clear about salvation. He said he was the way the truth and the life. He did not say he was one of many ways, many truths or that they were many good ways to live. Jesus did not teach there were many paths that lead to heaven. Jesus taught the path to heaven was narrow and hard, and few find it. He did not institute many Churches, but gave one Church, through which we enter by baptism and work out our salvation.
Do we have a reasonable hope that all are saved? The twelve apostles did not think so! The 12 gave their life because they believed Jesus Christ was the only saviour, the only path to heaven. If there were many paths too heaven then why give their lives? Dare we hope all are saved? The 12 apostles didn’t presume this. How do we know. Because the were martyred! It would be insanity to give your life to for something that does not demand you
Are all religions equal? Is hell empty?
Once again the example of countless saints teach us otherwise. Why strive for heroic virtue if it makes no eternal difference. Why make great sacrifices for the salvation of other souls, if they are going to heaven anyway (or at least have a great possibility of this). Presumption leads to apathy not sanctity.
Did God actively will world religions? Are local indigenous believe effect in working out salvation? The mission saints of the last 2000 years didn’t think so? Take for example the Canadians martyrs. Jesuit missions who came to Canada for the evangelization first nations people in the mid 17th century. They came knowing they were putting the lives in danger. Yet the came anyway. They were ritually tortured and killed.

Paragraph 846, Title: “Outside the Church there is no Salvation”
“Basing itself on Scripture and Tradition, the Council teaches that the Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation: the one Christ is the mediator and the way of salvation; he is present to us in his body which is the Church. He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and Baptism, and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through Baptism as through a door. Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.”
