#backpacking

My buddy John and Brian joined me for this final pond exploration until fall. The heat is going to be getting worse in the woods as well as the bugs so I am going to switch over to truck camping for the summer. I am also getting ready for a 42-mile hike soon. I hope you enjoy this one. I got to review a new firepit and grill from LIFEDOO. They reached out to me to ask me if I wanted to try it out and I agreed.

My buddy Brian Carlson from Carlson Adventures went and bought himself a new Dream Hammock Sparrow and was itching to use it. So he called me up at the last minute to see if I wanted to go on an overnighter. I was originally going to stay in for the weekend but hearing the excitement in his voice I relented LOL. So we set out to find and camp by another abandoned pond in the Charles C Deam Wilderness. The temperature and weather were perfect for the trip and it was a very relaxing time in the woods. Even these short backpacking and camping trips are pretty awesome to take.

Well, I am at it again, hiking to another abandoned pond in the Charles C. Deam Wilderness. This pond is called Axsom Branch Pond and sits on part of Terrell Ridge. I took my Dream Hammock Sparrow this time and made breakfast and lunch on my Jetboil Stash with Jetboil Summit Fry Pan. I decided not to have a fire but instead used my new UCO Candle Lantern for that nice warm glow of the candle. After I got back to my truck, I headed over to Blackwell Horse Camp and sat under my ARB awning, and used my new Firebox Stove Overlanding table. The weather on this trip was absolutely perfect and the sunset and sunrise were fantastic.

My little trek into Stehekin, WA. First time solo camping, I finally overcame my fear of camping alone! See how it went - uphill mountain biking to camp, late summer rain, angry yellow jackets attack me, amazing wilderness views, crystal clear blue river (potential fishing spot in the future!), late night visit by a bobcat, and it all started with a two hour ferry ride to this hidden gem of a location, because Stehekin is not accessible by road.

This is the trip that made me decide to start making content for a channel.Hope you like my video, even if it's cheesy ! I intend on making more in the future

I thought I'd include the link for the LifeStraw water bottle I was using, and also referenced the regular stand alone LifeStraw. They're amazing! I'm not being sponsored by them, but I recommend them for anyone that does a lot of hiking or backpacking

On July 23rd I climbed Mt. Katahdin. What was supposed to be the beginning of a long hike, ended shortly after. I hurt my foot coming off the mountain and rather regretfully, came home a few days later. I'll definitely return to the Appalachian Trail in a future year, in better shape and likely start in Harper's Ferry for a flip-flop hike so that I do not begin in an area that makes it difficult to 'ease into things'. I still had an incredibly time in Maine, and was met with some amazing scenery and great hospitatlity by the fine folks over at the AT Lodge in Millinocket where I shacked up and rested before and after Katahdin, and who served as my shuttle to places I needed to go.

I am very highly considering a thru-hike of the Tahoe Rim Trail, a 170 mile loop in Nevada and California that circles Lake Tahoe, the largest freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevadas. The TRT offers terrain that could be described as easier than southern Maine, better weather, and more stunning views.

Please like and subscribe if you have not already so you can follow me on trail, wherever I may end up next.

I hit up Indiana's longest hiking trail to train for my southbound Appalachian Trail hike. This 47 mile trail features many pointless steep uphill and downhill sections and offers very few views, making it a perfect candidate to train physically and mentally for mundane days of hiking on the AT.

I've got new hiking gear to start the year off right

1 year, 6 months ago

My first ever unboxing video. A new pair of USGI desert boots arrived. I opened up the package and prepared them for the trail. I also took the opportunity to clean up my other boots as well. These are rough out leather, or suede I'm not sure of the technical distinctions, but yes I know leather conditioner spoils the appearance of rough leather, it's not a concern for me. Like anything, surplus gear has positives and negatives. Unfortunately when someone (like me) has hard to find sizes there are limited sources for acquiring hiking gear. The standardized sizes of surplus equipment is very helpful when ordering online.

I found this product at Walmart while I was supplying for a recent trip. I was intrigued by its design and decided to give it a try. This UCO Switch Spork is very handy and light and I really like it. In this video, I am lightly comparing it to my Morspel Spork that I got off of Kickstarter. The thing I like about the UCO is the ability to break it down into a smaller footprint in my backpack. Don't get me wrong I still like the Morsel, but there are some advantages to this spork that the Morsel does not have.

Measurements: 7 inches nested, 10.3 inches extended
Weighs: 0.9 oz or 27 grams
Includes 1 reusable tether, 1 fork, and 1 spoon/knife combination utensil.
Made from ultra-durable food grade BPA-free glass-filled nylon.
Use the spoon and fork separately or connect them together end to end for extra length.
Attachment points and reusable tether work together to affix the spork to a pack or hang it up to dry.
Dishwasher and microwave safe

A brief introduction to who High Country is and what we'll be presenting to you.

Doing a conditioning hike and talking about a few things. I also heat up a mountain house meal on a Svea 123r, though much of that footage didn't come out.

I think in the future I'll reserve my commentary for when I am NOT walking or hiking. Aside from being a bit out of breathe, I'm distracted by having to watch the trail as I go and keep an eye out for other people and horses in the area which takes away from my focus.

This is the first in a series of videos featuring the Ouachita Trail. Starting at the Talimena state park and hiking to Deadman's Gap at mile 8. We then jump off the Ouachita Trail and loop back to Talimena State park on a series of other trails. This hike took place in March of 2016 and I have section hiked the trail most of the year. Please stay tuned as more videos' will follow!!

Technically this is not the Ouachita Trail but the continuation of the Boardstand/Old Military Road Loop. We hiked to the 8-mile mark at Deadman's Gap and then took the Boardstand Trail and set up camp for the night. In the morning we continued down the Boardstand Trail and then took the Old Military Road Trail back to Ouachita Trail and finally back to Talimena State Park. This a 22-mile loop and is a great way to kick off your adventure on the Ouachita Trail because you can circle back to your car.
