BOP Advantages

BOP's primary advantage is as an alternative model for web development. Application servers promote a page-centric model. BOP's task-centric model allows you to think in terms of operations, not output (results).

The control logic is very similar to an OLTP's system message dispatch table. The single point of entry has many advantages as it allows you to centralize important operations such as the decision whether to commit or rollback a transaction. Error redirects are handled centrally and therefore consistently.

What didn't come from OLTP systems is the clear separation of business and presentation logic. Application servers allow you to do this, but they don't encourage it.

With BOP, the presentation logic is declarative, just like HTML is supposed to be. You specify a field name and the page configuration language knows its type and, say, whether it should display a list (select) box or enumerate the choices as radio buttons. You declare general page styles and insert content (forms, tables, etc.) into those pages.

The OR layer is also declarative. You define the fields of a Property model. The OR engine generates all the SQL you need tocreate, read, update, and delete rows in the database. Type validators, converters, and meta-data are shared across all models. List models are often just a declaration of the Property model fields desired and the join equivalences.

The operational support intrinsic to OLTP systems but missing from most web servers is included in BOP. Decades of experience building distributed systems has left its mark on BOP's architecture.

"Out of the Mist" - 12x16” - Acrylic on Canvas -

This is the companion piece to “Into the Light.” I loved the mysterious feeling in this scene and the way the bird was framed so perfectly by the foreground leaves and misty sunlight. It was a challenge making the foreground interesting, but once I started adding the blue and green leaves the whole painting came together smoothly.

"Into the Light" - 12x16” - Acrylic on Canvas -

I wanted to paint another springtime scene and loved the way the light illuminated this forested path. I really had fun playing with the different color relationships, creating contrast between the foreground and background. The sun rays gave this piece a somewhat mystical feeling, but it still felt like it needed something more. I added the heron to give it that last touch of magic that it was missing.

Blue birds love a good bath. They stop by around the same time each day to fight over the bird bath and splash all of the water out.

This video was filmed with a Gopro Hero 4

This video was recorded with a GoPro Hero4 - Summer 2017
When the mockingbirds are not chasing each other around fighting and keeping up their territory they like to keep an eye out for the fresh offerings. Whether is it meal worms or peanut butter they like to get to it first and they are not fond of sharing. When you start hearing their randomly ordered songs stolen from many different birds you know they are around. They also seem to like to make nests in some strange places like very small bushes or well established vines. I wonder if it is a distraction to protect their real nest somewhere else?

A male Rose-breasted Grosbeak stopped by for some seed. This is the first time I have seen this bird. It seems like he is most likely making an unusual stop in Florida on his way north for breeding season. He was nice enough to turn and face the camera. Another welcome bird guest.

The Boss in Action

There was a lot of Crow activity by the cracked corn and a circling Turkey Vulture decided to check it out and see what everyone was so interested in. Near the end a Crow walks by and you can see just how large the Turkey Vulture is. Crows are not small birds but the Turkey Vulture towers above the Crow.

The Grackles eat their fill of meal worms then grab as many as they can carry and fly off. Such a greedy bird, or is it? Also note the puppet like "I'm outta here" head yoink just before it exits to the right and flies off.

These Cowbirds will eat until there is nothing left. The only breaks happen when they are spooked and fly off in a group as you see at the end. The black birds with the brown heads are male. The brown birds are female cowbirds. Keep an eye out for the confused Dove in the background and another that gets chased across the camera close up.

Actually the bird is stumped...(boo hiss)
Not sure what kind of bird this is, some kind of heron is my guess.
It spread its wings magnificently after I stopped the video, naturally.

Baltimore orioles are a rare sight here in southwest Virginia. I had never seen one before a couple of months ago and didn't know what it was at the time.
I thought I had seen the oriole since the original sighting, but wasn't able to video it.
Until today...what a wonderful thing to witness and share!

I know the bird looks red with black wings in the video, but is it really?
Last week I was blessed to see a Baltimore Oriole, but it was vibrant orange with black wings. Maybe this is another oriole?
It isn't shaped like a cardinal...

And to Joy C. Bell who described woodpeckers as 'annoying', I say that annoying is in the perception of the beholder.
