Fresh out of the military and flat broke, Walter Gulick (Elvis Presley) takes the only job he can find -- as a sparring partner at the local gym. Willy (Gig Young), the owner of the gym, sees potential in Walter as a professional fighter, and takes him under his wing. Willy hopes that Walter will earn enough money fighting in the ring to help him pay off his many gambling debts. Walter, on the other hand, hopes that he can earn the attention of Willy's little sister Rose (Joan Blackman).

Following several years of strict military life, Gates wants nothing more than to hang loose and surf all day. His family pressures him to work for the family pineapple business. Much to the chagrin of his snobby mother (Angela Lansbury), Gates lands a job as a tour guide at the same company where his girlfriend, Maile (Joan Blackman), also works.

Written Thomas A. Dorsey in 1937. It was one of the first gospel songs to sell one million copies. He lived to 93 and said gospel songs kept him alive at times, while also recording 3000 songs, 1/3 of them gospel. Elvis Presley picked this song up in the 70s with his gospel album that did very well too.
I hope you enjoy it. I took a good crack at it anyway. brilliant chords and words.

Barkey is in Hawaii, and is on his third Tropical Heat Wave, but even that doesn't help the fight against his bad green screen as he struggles to review "Blue Hawaii", an Elvis movie from 1961.

I was first exposed to Elvis watching the Disney movie, Lelo and Stitch as a kid. "Suspicious Minds" is one of those tunes that always takes me back to those carefree times. I hope you have an awesome day!
Elvis' grandson, Benjamin, passed away yesterday at the age of 27. I was always a huge fan of "The King", and my heart reaches out to his family for their loss. This week, I'm going to be playing all of my favorite Elvis tunes in tribute.

Elvis Travels is back at it trying to change his stripes. Will it work or has he burned too many bridges? It's about the love now or is he on some type of medication. You decide.
Elvis was showing butt-hurt over Rosie O'Kelly and Psychological projection last night. He can't stop talking about Rosie but says he doesn't need her. Many of you will agree with him and many won't but it's up to you to decide.
Denied his high school diploma because of a schoolyard fight, Danny Fisher (Elvis Presley) is unsure how he's going to support himself and his unemployed father. He briefly flirts with a life of crime before a club owner hears him singing and offers him a job. Things look promising until rival club owner and Danny's former boss, Maxie (Walter Matthau), tries to lure him back with threats and the charms of his sometimes-girlfriend, Ronnie (Carolyn Jones).
A young man, Vince Everett (Elvis Presley), is convicted of manslaughter after being drawn into a bar fight while trying to defend a woman. In prison, Everett finds salvation when his cellmate, a country singer named Hunk Houghton (Mickey Shaughnessy), hears him sing and pegs him as a future star. Once released, Everett gets a job in a night club and meets Peggy Van Alden (Judy Tyler), a young woman who works for a record company and who, like Houghton, also sees talent in Everett.

We need more truthful, Biblical songs like this!!
There are just some artists that transcend decades and homage must be paid to them. Elvis Presley is one of them. On January 8, 1935, the King of Rock and Roll was born in Tupelo, Mississippi. Simply 80's feels it is only proper to pay tremendous honor to this musical and cultural icon on what would have been his 85th Birthday.
It was August 16, 1977 and I was 11 years old living on 31st and Mitchell in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as the news broke that the King of Rock and Roll had died unexpectedly at his home in Memphis, Tennessee. It is a memory that will be forever etched in my mind! As I sat and watched the breaking news that interrupted programming on the television that day my mother was inconsolable. Nothing could be done to assuage her grief and as a young boy all I could do was be terribly worried for my mother! I didn't understand the enormity of the news...how could I, as I was just 11 years old. Even now, the tears fall down my eyes as I remember this.
That night I remember praying that God would somehow turn this around. It was a prayer of an 11 year old boy watching as his mother was heartbroken. I didn't understand the magnitude of what had happened. Years later I have come to fully understand and appreciate the legacy that this man, Elvis Presley, had on our lives, our culture, and our history. If you are one of those who deny his influence it is Simply 80's opinion that you are musically illiterate!
To commemorate and celebrate the legacy of "The King", Simply 80's presents it's favorite Elvis Presley song, "Suspicious Minds."
"Suspicious Minds" is a 1968 song written and first recorded by American songwriter Mark James. After this recording failed commercially, it was cut by Elvis Presley with producer Chips Moman, becoming a No.1 song in 1969, and one of the most notable hits of Presley's career.
"Suspicious Minds" was one of the singles that revived Presley's chart success in the U.S., following his '68 Comeback Special. It was his eighteenth and last No.1 single in the United States. Rolling Stone ranked it No. 91 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Elvis Presley is the best-selling solo artist in the history of recorded music. He was commercially successful in many genres, including pop, country, blues, and gospel. He won three competitive Grammys, received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36, and has been inducted into multiple music halls of fame.
