executive actions to provide economic relief amid the coronavirus pandemic.

suspension of student loan repayments, and deferring payroll taxes.

Bloodlands: The complex question of land rights and expropriation has long blighted South Africa. With attacks on white farmers on the rise, many believe the aim is to terrorize them off the land.

This has been touted as one reason for chronic violence across the country. “There was a lot of blood lying on the floor here and I immediately realized that something is wrong”, says white farmer Jo-An Engelbrecht, recalling the discovery of his parents’ bodies. “Their throats were slit. They were tortured here”. However, some raise doubts whether these murders, and those of many more white farmers, are not simply a product of a wider issue. “We have a real problem with violence and it’s expressed in various different ways”, says Gareth Newham of the Institute of Security Studies, “And then suddenly there’s international attention on the murders of white farmers. It just sort of seems completely disproportionate”. On the other hand, radical politicians are not afraid to offer force as a solution for reclaiming these lands. “The white minority took our land by force”, declares Julius Malema, charismatic leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters. “You must say enough is enough. We are taking the future into our own hands”.

But for his daughter Tessa, her grandparents’ murder was the final straw. She wants out – maybe to Australia, if those hints of fast track visas materialise. “I wouldn’t think twice if I got the chance,” she says.

Campbell's farm manager and other workers were arrested and tortured by the police after they attempted to defend the farm. Campbell and his wife and son-in-law were also violently assaulted when they returned to their estate while their trial with the SADC was in process.
Death
Campbell died at his temporary home in Harare on 8 April 2011. He is survived by his wife Angela, his children Bruce, Cathy and Laura, and 6 grandchildren. Campbell's family stated that he died from complications of the 2008 assault.

Hundreds of Zimbabwean white farmers and black farm workers on Friday mourned the death of murdered white farmer Terry Ford.
The former Prime minister of Rhodesia Ian Smith attended.
The 51-year-old was shot in the head in an execution-style killing at his farm west of Harare on Monday.
Ford was the 10th white farmer killed since the often-violent farm occupations began two years ago.
Ruling party militants, with tacit government backing, have demanded the farms be seized and redistributed to landless blacks.
Mark Ford, 28, told an emotion-charged funeral service in Harare his father "just wanted somewhere to live and farm".
Squatters occupied the farm in 2000, forcing him to take on teaching work at a nearby Christian school.
Noami Raaff, Ford's fiancee, held the couple's Jack Russell terrier, Squeak, in her arms.
The dog had huddled by Ford's body for several hours after his murder.
The farm occupations, along with floods and droughts, have decimated the country's harvest as its agriculture-based economy collapsed.
Zimbabwe on Friday announced plans to import huge amounts of food to stave off starvation.
Emergency food distribution by the World Food Programme to half a (M) million people facing starvation resumed on Thursday in south and western Zimbabwe, UN officials said.
