The Five Eyes (FVEY) is an Anglosphere intelligence alliance comprising Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. These countries are parties to the multilateral UKUSA Agreement, a treaty for joint cooperation in signals intelligence.

Die Allianz dieser fünf Länder wird informell auch als Five Eyes bezeichnet. Als Kooperationspartner („tertiärer Partner“) kamen später auch Deutschland, Frankreich, Israel (Deckname Ruffle), Schweden (Deckname Sardine), Italien, Japan, Norwegen, Südkorea und die Türkei hinzu (sogen. Nine Eyes bzw. Fourteen Eyes). Die erste Initiative zu diesem Bündnis geht auf den August 1940 zurück. Ziel dieses Abkommens war es, die Kommunikation der Achsenmächte Deutsches Reich, Italien und Japan sowie ihrer Verbündeten abzuhören. Dieses Bündnis zwischen den USA und dem UK sollte die Zusammenarbeit verstärken, um die Codes der deutschen Atlantikflotte „Enigma“, „Fish“ und „Purple“ zu knacken. Durch die Kriegsführung der USA gegen Japan wurde auch Australien einbezogen.
In der Mitte der 1960er Jahre verbesserte man die Antennensysteme vieler US-Abhöranlagen für Kurzwellenfunk, so dass sie nun auch den Sendeort ermitteln konnten. Außerdem begann man ab Ende des Jahrzehnts ein Netz von Anlagen zum Abhören von Kommunikationssatelliten zu planen, an dem heute alle englischsprachigen Alliierten beteiligt sind und das unter dem Namen Echelon bekannt ist. Dieses weltumspannende Netzwerk verband die Abhöranlagen der teilnehmenden Länder mit dem zentralen Rechnersystem der NSA (genannt platform) sowie anderen Computersystemen. Dieses WAN wurde bis 1996 erneuert und als sehr sicheres Netzwerk unter dem Namen Intelink bekannt. Es arbeitet auf der Grundlage des Netzwerkprotokolls TCP/IP, das ursprünglich für den Vorgänger des inzwischen öffentlichen Internets entwickelt und zum Standard für US-Militärkommunikation erklärt wurde. Die Vorgänger von Intelink waren bis Mitte der 1990er Jahre größer als das öffentliche Internet. Die Nutzung des modernen Netzes und der Zugriff auf geheime Informationen soll für Mitarbeiter der Nachrichtendienste einfach und intuitiv sein und dabei hochverschlüsselt vonstattengehen. An Intelink sollen 13 Nachrichtendienste der USA sowie weitere Behörden der UKUSA angeschlossen sein
Deutschland schloss sich 1955 an und betreibt unter der sogenannten Fernmeldeverkehrstelle des Bundesnachrichtendiensts die Bad Aibling Abhörstation weiter.
