Do you think you may have a ghost that likes to clean? Maybe you've named it Mabel and it's now a nice old lady that used to live there in the past. You know it's a little old lady because you sometimes hear the patter of her feet...
She raids the fridge too, at night....

Well, I have some some news! You may just have a house fairy! A spirit of the home, a friend and guardian of the smooth running of your domestic bliss. There's just one small courtesy.

Superstitions and traditions abound around the sick, dying and newly dead.
These customs and beliefs are tied not only to a love of the person; but also from fears that the dearly departing will haunt the home or become a malevolent force.
One way in which a household or community would be able to prepare for such matters was through the divination of omens.
Omens are a phenomena that will occur as a forewarning to an event such as sickness, death or misfortune.
Paying heed to these omens would give the witness a chance to prepare rituals or formulas to ease or mitigate the impending death.
In this Fast Folklore we explore birds as omens of death.

Humans have had a long companionship with dogs. Domesticated from wolves, these furry friends have helped to hunt, to guard, and guide. But sometimes...perhaps we would prefer for them not to hunt, or to guard, or to guide...
From The Hounds of Hell, to small effigies - this podcast explores dogs in supernatural and mystical form.
Learn about the Wild Hunt, demon dogs, and dogs as everlasting guardians in part one of our series on animal lore.

What do you know about, and how do you feel about crickets? In Ancient China, crickets were symbols of prosperity, and their chirping was a sign of good luck, and a kind of music to the ears. They are also fierce fighters. The episode tells a Chinese Folktale called "The Fighting Cricket" and takes a look at the Chinese Lore and Legend surrounding crickets, the strange sport of cricket fighting, a little cricket science, and what our future relationship with the bugs may look ...errrr... taste like....

Pa' Mar Adentro - Pedro Messone (Chilean Folklore)
Folklore Chileno
Música típica de Chile
¡Viva Chile!

Va pa' mar pa' mar adentro
Y son los madrugadores
Allá van los pescadores
Mar dentro a echar la red

Va pa' mar pa' mar adentro
Y son los madrugadores
Allá van los pescadores
Mar dentro a echar la red

Se perdieron a lo lejos
Todavía no aclaraba
Un rayo de sol travieso
Que bajó de la montaña
Los busco por la caleta

Y se encontró con que no estaba

Va pa' mar pa' mar adentro
Y son los madrugadores
Allá van los pescadores
Mar dentro a echar la red

Son buenas las esperanzas
La marea esta baja
Se pueden echar las redes
Para todos les alcanza
Pa' la choza pa' la barca

Que esté bien calafateá
Va pa' mar pa' mar adentro
Y son los madrugadores
Allá van los pescadores
Mar dentro a echar la red

A veces el tiempo es negro
La mar es muy traicionera
Pero ya los pescadores
Ese peligro conocen
Son testigos las gaviotas

Y los mudos alcatraces

Va pa' mar pa' mar adentro
Y son los madrugadores
Allá van los pescadores
Mar dentro a echar la red

Va pa' mar pa' mar adentro
Y son los madrugadores
Allá van los pescadores
Mar dentro a echar la red
Pa' mar adentro

Folklore of the Isles by the Duke of Avalon

John and Goose back with another Spooky Month video! This time we cover the Goblin history and folklore in today's episode! This if from our 17th Podcast Episode on Soundcloud linked down below, with the rest of our social media links. What is a Goblin though? I will let this little paragraph from mythology.net explain.

A Goblin (alt. spellings: gobbelin, gobblin, goblyn, gobling, gobelin) is a mischievous, and usually very unpleasant, vengeful, and greedy creature whose primary purpose is to cause trouble to humankind; this is the most common type according to European folklore. There is a smaller population of Goblins, however, that possess a kinder, or more neutral temperament. Regardless of the type, though, all Goblins are rumored to hold various kinds of special abilities, often magical in nature. Some Goblins possess more fairy-like powers, similar to those of a witch or warlock; other types of Goblin have more demonic abilities, only using their magic to do harm.
Many people associate the Goblin with trolls, as they have an undesirable appearance and aren’t the most benevolent creatures. However, unlike trolls who are said to reside under bridges and in forests, the Goblin typically makes a home for itself in the mountains, just waiting for an opportunity (usually deep into the night) to snatch highly valued items such as gold and jewelry.

John and Goose do a deep dive on the folklore of the water nymphs, and find out that their lore is actually in the lore of other mythological beings, such as the mermaids. They have deep lore within the Greek God era.

According to Paracelsus, undines aren’t human and don’t have a soul. Marrying a human is the only way to get one. Somehow, tying the knot grants them an immortal human soul, though it shortens their life. There are three different races of water nymphs: The Naiads, The Nereids, and The Oceanids.. Paracelsus is the first person to mention undines in his 1658 book, Liber de Nymphis, sylphis, gnomes et salamandris et de caeteris spiritibus. Here, the undine becomes the personnification of the element of water.

This is the second part of our 12th podcast on soundcloud. The first part is the SCP water nymph which we covered already. If you want too watch that before this, that might get you caught up, but this can be watched on it's own. If you would like to listen to the podcast on soundcloud, the link will be below, as well as the rest of our social media pages. Thank you so much for watching this, and let us know if there are any other folklore that you would like us too cover.

NOTE: This song was expropiated from a Communist group and remastered, now is a Pinochetist song!

¡ahora somos gobierno!

La patria se verá grande
con su tierra liberada,
por que tenemos la llave
¡ahora la cosa marcha!

Ya nadie puede quitarnos
el derecho de ser libres
y con comida
¡podremos vivir en Chile!
