This is a demonstration of the 'narcopouch' screening color tests used to test bulk drugs.
This is one of the presumptive (screening) tests for blood. It uses phenolpthalin being oxidized by oxygen to phenolpthalein. In a basic solution, phenolpthalien is pink, but phenolpthalin is colorless. The catalase in blood catalyzes the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide to oxygen, causing the oxidation. Iodide ion will also catalyze that decomposition.
