In this video, we went over the dangers of doing floor crunches to train the abdominals. This is an exercise that should be done seldom provided it can shorten the abdominals and bring us into bad posture. Additionally, the floor crunch only provides half range of motion. This is not ideals for working the full capacity of the abdominal musculature.

In this video, we went over the key point of the what is termed a "neutral spine philosophy", in which we spoke about the three points of contact that come with this idea. In order to assess if we are lifting with a neutral spine, it first important to understand what it means. To assess if we are lifting w/ a neutral spine, we place the dowel rod down our spine, and maintain three points of contact (Behind the head, Middle of spine, Sacrum). When bending, squatting, lunging, pushing, pulling etc, it is important that we maintain a neutral spine, is this will allow for utmost efficiency while maintaining good lifting mechanics while reducing risk of injury from lifting with bad posture/ rounded back.

In our bodies, there are two classification of muscles. We have fast and slow twitch muscles fibers. Fast twitch has to do with movement of the body, while slow twitch has to do with posture of the skeleton. More specifically, we have prime movers and postural muscles. Interestingly and paradoxically, the small or postural muscles are the generals of the body that tell the brain how to take command of the prime movers i.e. the soldiers. The smaller muscles have many of what is termed spindle cells which is in charge of sending muscle stretch signals to the brain so that it can make an intelligent decision on positioning and recruitment of larger muscles.

It can sometimes feel as if we are alone with no one to talk to or be with. The reality of aloneness is that this solidarity allows us the time to return home. When we are alone, we are ALL-ONE with ourselves. In this state, we are uninfluenced by others and free to be ourselves. A problem arises when we are lonely and begin hankering for the other. When we hanker, we are like a child that cannot stand on their own feet and call others for attention and comfort. We enjoy the presence of others, yet, ultimately, we are ALL-ONE.

In this video, we went over considerations for wrist straps. We talked about how the grip strength sends a feedback mechanism to the body, letting the other muscles become aware of how heavy the object being lifted is. When we grip an object, it tells our whole how heavy something is. If we use wrist straps, we are sending a false signal through our nervous about what we are lifting, which could lead having no recruitment of other stabilizing muscles to match the demand of the grip via the brachial plexus.

We went over
1) How wrist straps change grip
2) How grip is linked to whole body stabilization
3) How this can lead to destabilization and discomfort from false recruitment

Posture is defined as the position in which the musculoskeletal system functions most optimally. In this video, we did a book review of the title "The Practicing Stoic" by Ward Farnsworth.
Self described as: See more clearly, live more wisely, and bear the burdens of this life with greater ease―here are the greatest insights of the Stoics, in their own words. Presented in twelve lessons, Ward Farnsworth systematically presents the heart of Stoic philosophy accompanied by commentary that is clear and concise. A foundational idea to Stoicism is that we appear to go through life reacting directly to events. That appearance is an illusion. We react to our judgments and opinions―to our thoughts about things, not to things themselves. Stoics seek to become conscious of those judgments, to find the irrationality in them, and to choose them more carefully. In chapters including Emotion, Adversity, Virtue, and What Others Think, here is the most valuable wisdom about living a good life from ages past―now made available for our time.

In this video, we went over whether to stretch before or after the workout. This is a common exercising question that can be difficult to answer without diving into the research. It is suggestive based on EMG studies, that muscles that are tight will have a higher likelihood of firing since they are already tight and contracted. Based on the graph, we can conclude to stretch before working out because it will loosen tight muscles prior to exercises.

We went over
1) Stretch before workout
2) EMG Graph energy diminishes or lessens with stretching
3) Muscles that are contracted and tight will do more work

To achieve mastery at anything in life, we must be willing to put in the effort and work. In this video, our primary goal is to go over the Law of Facilitation, which states that: When a nerve impulse passes through a given set of neurons, at the exclusion of others, it will tend to do so on a future occasion. And each time it traversers this path the signal will strengthen. what this means for us, is that if we want to master anything in life, we must embody the skill into our nervous system through repetition.

The leg flicking when jogging is typically due to tight muscles in the hips and legs causing the foot the overpronate, which can lead to many unwanted injuries from constant poor form when running. If the abdominal muscles are not strong enough to counter balance the weight of the legs, or/and the tightness of the hip flexors and quads, the tendency is for the pelvis to tilt forward, which cause the knees and feet to turn inwards and cause a leg flick.

Bowleggedness is commonly caused from muscle imbalances at the hip, specifically tight hamstrings, peroneus longus, gluteus maximus, and piriformis. To correct this imbalance, it is important that we train our hip flexors and lower back, while cantonizing this with stretches for these tight hip and leg muscles as mention above. Jogging and walking will help fire and create tone within the hip flexors and quads, however, It is recommended to start with these stretches and exercises to help encourage better alignment at the knee joint.

The muscles have direct attach into one another and create tensegrity (integrity held through resting tension). The plantar aponeurosis connects into the calf, the calf into the hamstring, the hamstring into the Sacro-tuberous ligament, the Sacro-tuberous ligament into the spinal erectors, the spinal erectors into the occiput, the occiput into the cranial Aponeurosis, and lastly the cranial Aponeurosis into the frontalis muscles on the front of the face above the eyebrows.

Machines are good for early teachings to turn the muscles on, or for those who are handicapped. For those who are healthy and able, it is recommended to utilize free weights to keep the core strong and integrated into movement patterns. The leg press does not turn on the core muscles like that of a squat or lunge.

In this video, we went over the reasoning behind not wearing a weight belt in the gym. When we synch a weight belt around our stomach, it causes a hoop tension mechanism to form. A hoop tension mechanism means that if we apply a hoop force to an object, it will push outwards with an equal force to that which is being exerted inwards. The core activates by pulling in. If we rely on the belt, this will in time shut down the core functionality and lead to injury when lifting without the belt.

“The girl says "Oh uh-uh, wait a minute! Wait a minute! Just because I'm dressed this way does not make me a whore!" Which is true, Gentlemen, that is true. Just because they dress a certain way doesn't mean they are a certain way. But ladies, you must understand that is fucking confusing. It just is. Now that would be like me, Dave Chappelle, the comedian, walking down the street in a cop uniform. Somebody might run up on me saying, "Oh, thank God. Officer, help us! Come on. They're over here. Help us!" "Oh-hoh! Just because I'm dressed this way does not make me a police officer!" See what I mean? All right, ladies, fine. You are not a whore. But you are wearing a whore's uniform!” - Dave Chappelle
