Video completely redone - text layout improved, audio very much improved pronunciation corrected
[Note: audio a robo-voice - MS 'David' - speeded up quite a bit, tone lowered, definitely 'listenable to' (a classic - worth listening to in it's entirety. Do not know of any other recording of this work).
Effort required - yes - but that effort will be repaid. This is not entertainment, it is a thing belonging to history. Video is lengthy - watching/listening in parts can be a good approach - 80 min.]
So run, that ye may obtain - 1 Corinthians 9:24
"The Heavenly Footman", by John Bunyan, 1698.
[Excerpt:] "The doctrine is this: THEY THAT WILL HAVE HEAVEN, MUST RUN FOR IT; I say, they that will have heaven, they must run for it. I beseech you to heed it well. Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run ye. The prize is heaven, and if you will have it, you must run for it. You have another scripture for this in the 12th of the Hebrews, the 1st, 2d, and 3rd verses: Wherefore seeing we also, saith the apostle, are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. And LET US RUN, saith he. Again, saith Paul, I therefore so run, not as uncertainly, so fight I, &c."

John Bunyan, famed for the classic book 'Pilgrim's Progress', was a prolific author. Here is another example of his excellent work, exhorting the professing believer in that it is no wisdom to take their salvation lightly. In these times of deep apostasy we do well to turn back and ground ourselves in some unquestionably "sound doctrine", capably expounded, as in this particular work by Bunyan.

John Knox led the Scottish reformation of the 16th century transitioning Scotland from Catholicism to Presbyterianism. Knox is considered to be the founder of Presbyterianism. At that time Scotland and England were ruled by a succession of Queens - three 'Marys' and one Elizabeth. This now famous historical writing was occasioned by that situation. Reference is made to some of these queens in this work.
An internet search turned up no audio recording of this work. So here now is one. Complete and unedited, not 'modernized'. Audio is a robo-voice...slightly speeded up, tone slightly lowered. Definitely listenable, especially with scrolling text. Careful listening in it's entirety is necessary to make an informed assessment.

Jeremiah Burroughs (1599-1646) - one of the 'Puritans' - well regarded in his day, by his writings is still today.
Chapters 4, 5, 6, and [last] 7; From Jeremiah Burroughs book 'A Treatise Of Earthly Mindedness'; original unedited
Ch. 4. 7 Reasons
Ch. 5. 11 Considerations
Ch. 6. Exhortation
Ch. 7. 5 Directions
Very few audio resources of Jeremiah Burroughs online, or printed in readable text format even. This particular audio original unedited as here is nowhere else to be found. There is one partial-recording of JBurroughs 'Earthly Mindedness' on YT but it has been 'modernized'...which is to say...stripped of it's essence. The writings of Burroughs are a treasure. Very practical, very applicable, and depending on the hearer, may be very impactful. This particular work 'A Treatise of Earthly-mindedness' - 'Who Mind Earthly Things' is widely considered a classic. Well worth the effort, time.
It is done with a robo-voice - MS 'David' - slightly speeded up tone slightly lowered - very 'listenable to'. Note: Does not have to be listened to all at once. Carefully listening to it in parts can be a good way to go. And, repeated hearing is always best.
Note: the images for the video is the original table of contents, showing chapter titles and subtitles. Helpful to follow. It has two columns. The first image is at about 40 seconds. 'Chapter IV' will be seen in the left hand column at bottom. To follow note that the table of contents is a few pages so the page changes a couple of times and when it does the column will change. The Ch. IV start point is at the bottom of page so after a few moments the image will go back to the top of page and the column will change from the left to the top right column, and then scroll down as video progresses. When the right column reaches the bottom of page the next page will come up and the column will change to the (top) left column. And so on.

JN Darby (1800-1882) was a voluminous author, and at the forefront of the Plymouth Brethren movement of the early to mid 19th century on into the early 20th century. The Plymouth Brethren distinguished themselves as staunch proponents of Dispensationalism, including pre-tribulational rapture eschatology. JN Darby is to this day vigorously derided by opponents of these views, which is another subject, not to be entered into here. Here now is an interesting thing though. While Darby's writings are prodigious, an internet search for audios of Darby's writings returned exactly zero results. Not a one could be found. This being the case, it seemed a thing to be rectified. Many have heard the name but never heard or read any of Darby's work. So here now is an online JND audio - if not the first, one of very few. It is a short teaching [17:50 min.] on the passage in Luke 22 the 'Sifting as Wheat' of Simon Peter. It is quite excellent actually. Some very good things in it for the careful listener. Try the spirits - 1John 4:1
