Repressive Tolerance Series, Part 3 of 4
In this third part of James Lindsay's lecture series on Herbert Marcuse's "Repressive Tolerance," we see how the essay takes a particularly dark turn. Having set up the framing of the essay in the first part and explaining the condition of the "administered society" in the second, Marcuse now turns to answering the question of what a Repressive Tolerance should look like, including what it must suppress and what it must tolerate, including the sorts of violence and extralegal behaviors it must tolerate. The statement, which we arrive at near the end of this part, is simple, in Marcuse's own words: "Liberating tolerance, then, would mean intolerance against movements from the Right and toleration of movements from the Left." In this part of the lecture series, Lindsay walks the listener through the darker part of Marcuse's argument to show how he arrives at this blatantly biased and ridiculous conclusion that has set the stage for the totalitarianism we see today in Wokeness and from Big Tech.

Synopsis
Four stories are introduced and interwoven so that the film continually turns from one to the next. Each story reaches its climax at the end of the film. The stories are linked by the common theme that through all ages hatred and intolerance have opposed love and charity. A scene of a woman (Gish) rocking a cradle serves as the link between the shifting narratives. The rocking cradle represents the endless ages of shared passions, joys, and sorrows. The synopsis will not turn from story to story as in the film, but will tell each story completely in turn. The Modern and Babylon stories are longer and more complex than the France and Ancient Nazareth Stories.

A big problem in the world is that intolerance is stronger than tolerance. Intolerance can wipe out tolerance creating something like the USSR in 1920, under Lenin and Trotsky. Venerable Paññobhāsa wrote on his channel, "Brian and I discuss the ugly fact that, although tolerance of others and other points of view is wise, ethical, and philosophically right, intolerance is a winning strategy. Hence the ugly idea necessarily rises that some sort of intolerance may be necessary to save western civilization from globalist neo-Marxism."

Hello and welcome as we continue Silent September with todays film, Intolerance.
In 1915 D. W. Griffith released his most infamous film, The Birth of a Nation. Upon release the film, which followed two families during and after the Civil War, was highly controversial for its romanticism of the old south, slavery and the clan. Despite its box office success, critics were vocal in their opposition to the film and its racist message.
Griffith didn't take the criticism lightly and began developing a rebuttal in the form of another film. Intolerance is split up into four distinct stories, each about intolerance and hate through the ages including the fall of Babylon, the death of Christ, the St.Bartholomew's Day Massacre and modern day (1916) America.

My comments: Labels like "intolerance" and "whatever-phobic" are thrown at Christians by people themselves acting rather hypocritically with a rather narrow viewpoint. These labels are to suppress alternative viewpoints like Christian perspectives, and reveals outright hypocrisy. It is intolerant to claim someone else is phobic or intolerant just because they hold a biblical viewpoint. Christians could engage in the same sort of childish name calling (for example, calling others "Christophobe" repeatedly to squash free debate) but we don't. Grant us the same respect (and right to free speech such as is guaranteed under the United States Constitution) that you yourself expect from others.
