The Knights Hospitaller/ knights of saint John or Knights of Malta were up against the Ottomans they faced an immense army of over 40,000 men and at least an equal number of slaves. The Ottomans first attempted to take Malta in 1551 but failed. In 1565, Suleiman the Magnificent, the Ottoman Sultan, made a second attempt to take Malta. The Knights, who numbered around 500 together with approximately 6,000 footsoldiers, withstood the siege and repelled the invaders.
This victory became one of the most celebrated events of sixteenth-century Europe, to the point that Voltaire said: "Nothing is better known than the siege of Malta." It undoubtedly contributed to the eventual erosion of the European perception of Ottoman invincibility, although the Mediterranean continued to be contested between Christian coalitions and the Muslim Turks for many years.

Palästinalied is a German Teutonic knight song. Palästinalied (Palestine Song, also known as Kreuzlied "Song of the Cross"), was written by Walther von der Vogelweide, the most celebrated German mediaeval lyric poet. Its subject matter is Palestine and the crusades. It is Walther's only song where not only the text but also the original tune was handed down to modern times. The full song consists of 13 strophes in Middle High German. Modern performers usually use only a few of these strophes.

Artist: Annwn
Composer: Walther von der Vogelweide
Lyricist: Walther von der Vogelweide

Nû alrêst lebe ich mir werde,

For the very first I am alive to myself,
since my sinful eye beholds
the noble land, and also that earth
to which so much honour is given.
That has come to pass for which I have ever prayed:
I have come to the place
where God walked in human form.

Such fair lands, rich and noble,
as I have seen elsewhere,
you are the honour of them all,
what miracles have come to pass here!
That a maid bore a child,
lord over all the angelic host,
was this not a perfect miracle?

He took our sins on his shoulders,
here he suffered grim death,
he, most rich, on us, most poor,
that we might escape from woe.
That he was not vexed by this,
this is a miracle all too great,
beyond all other miracles.

Christians, Jews, and heathens
all say that this is their patrimony.
God must decide this justly,
by his three names.
All the world is warring here;
we are pursuing a just claim,
so it is just that He grant it.

My lady, by your goodness,
now hear my complaint,
that by your high-mindedness
what I say may not anger you.
Very easily will a foolish man
speak wrongly, as he may well do;
let this not perturb you.

If there's even anyone out there that still plays Spiral Knights you will probably realize how old this recording is. This game was pretty fun back in the day, especially with how easy it was to mod in sound effects as you can probably tell in this video. Anyway it was a short run so enjoy~

A song that was originally written by the Munich comedian Karl Valentin in 1939/40 as a contribution to his last theater project, the "Ritterspelunke". The model was the knight ballad "Ujeh, die alten Ritterleut" by August Endres, first published in "Klampf’n Toni" in 1914. Valentin wrote new stanzas, simplified the chorus and composed a new melody. A radio recording was made on January 24, 1941, but was only published on Telefunken after the war. The folk singer piece is a prank song that is still sung to this day. Many singers have added self-made verses.

It is a Bavarian fun song,
raw verses sung in hearty language.
If you can't stand something like that, you better not watch the video!
The video should just be fun, nothing else!

English translation:
Yes, they were like that, the old knights

Once a knight went on a trip
He put his wife in iron
But his squire Friederich
Had a lock pick.

And the knight Alexander
Slips over the railing
A nail stuck out below
Since then he has been singing in the boys' choir.

And the knight Dawidudl
Has a murderously long sword
And if it bothers him while riding
He sits upside down on his horse.

In a crusade, has knight Franze
Believe me people, with his lance
In a harem in one night
made 15 llegitimate children.

And the knightly miss Johanna
Was pregnant from a negroe
She didn't care whether black or white
The main thing is, it is not a Prussian.

Up there in the old castle
They even had wild orgies
And the knightly maiden Emma
Wasn't able to get up anymore.

And the knightly miss Hilde
My god she was a wild one
Instead of lowering the bridge
She left the knights over it.

And the knight Kuniguarl
For God's sake, the devil was gay
He put a wire in his back
So that now and then the lightning strikes.

And the knight Franz von Stein
Fell asleep in the shit house at night
Then the old wife of the Kunzen came
And says "get out there, let me also poop".

If a knight wanted to have sex
He had to crawl out of the armor
Thereby his pleasure was ruined
That's why they are now extinct.

Knights of the Round is a horizontally-scrolling beat-em-up based loosely on the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Arthur, after training to become a knight, pulled the sacred sword of Excalibur from the rock. He then new that his destiny was to become the first King of the Britons and Merlin sends Arthur and his two closest companions, Lancelot and Percival, to overthrow the evil king Garibaldi and to unite England.

Knights of the Round features role-playing elements in the form of its level advancement system, with fighters automatically being upgraded to new weapons and armor as they advance through the game. There are seven stages, each with its own boss and a variety of generic enemies that try to stop the players' progress.

Success in combat relies strongly on players' blocking ability, which is triggered by pressing the ATTACK button then pressing the joystick BACK as the opponent strikes. If successful, the player gains a few seconds of invincibility in which to counter-attack. However, if no enemy strikes the player-character while they're blocking, they will tire and drop their guard, making them vulnerable to attack. Blocking is vital in certain cases, since some bosses will only be vulnerable after their attack has been blocked by the player.

Players can perform a desperation attack by pressing both the ATTACK and JUMP buttons simultaneously. This strikes multiple enemies but player-characters lose some health every time they use it. At various points in the game the players get to ride a horse, enabling them to attack enemies from horseback. Horses can stamp on enemies by pressing the joystick FORWARDS twice. On occasion, enemy characters and bosses also ride horses.

* Arthur - The main protagonist, Arthur is a well-balanced character in both speed and power. His weapon is Excalibur. He can perform a special attack - a powerful slashing blow - by pressing ATTACK then holding the joystick TOWARDS the enemy. Initially, Arthur wears chain-mail and leather armor. After leveling-up, Excalibur becomes stronger and he eventually gets better armor. Arthur is also the most powerful character when on horseback.

* Lancelot - A talented swordsman, Lancelot is the fastest character but lacks strength. His special attack is the jumping kick, achieved by pressing ATTACK then holding the joystick UP. Lancelot's weapon is a sabre. Lancelot starts out wearing a blue tabard with a yellow cross. After leveling-up, he gains plate armor and a broader sabre.

* Percival - The son of a blacksmith, Percival is the strongest character but lacks agility. He is the only character who can dash by tapping the joystick forward twice, cancelled into a "Giant Swing" by pressing the ATTACK button while dashing. At first, Percival has blond hair and light armor. After leveling-up, Percival eventually becomes bald with a beard and gains heavier armor.

In podcast episode 91, we’re joined by author and lecturer Timothy Hogan. His titles include Past Master of East Denver Lodge #160 A.F.& A.M., Knight Templar, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Knight Commander of the Court of Honor, Past Sovereign Master of A.M.D. Council 425, member of the Royal Order of Scotland, member of S.R.I.C.F., S.I.I., and District Lecturer for the Grand Lodge of Colorado. Hogan is also the Grand Master of the Knights Templar (Ordre Souverain du Temple Initiatique) and runs CIRCES International. He has presented numerous lectures around the world on the subject of Freemasonry, and his experience and eloquence have distinguished him among Masonic and esoteric scholars. Hogan’s passion and wisdom are evident in his writing, which wonderfully conveys the symbolic richness and majesty of the Western Mystery Tradition.

We begin our conversation by discussing his book entitled The Alchemical Keys to Masonic Ritual, which has been described as, “the first book which establishes a direct link between the rituals of Freemasonry and the practice of both chemical and spiritual alchemy.” Hogan tells us about the foundational principles involved in Alchemy. He then provides some key examples of how Alchemical principles are contained within the symbolism of Freemasonry, as well as how these concepts have been ingeniously conveyed and preserved within the Craft.

Next, we explore the research and revelations from his book The 32 Secret Paths of Solomon: A New Examination of the Qabbalah in Freemasonry. Hogan explains how he arrived at an interpretation of the Tree of Life “that can be found within the symbolic degrees of Freemasonry.” We go into great depth discussing both of his books and their implications. Hogan’s work is scholarly, reasoned, and crucial for its insights. For Freemasons interested in esotericism, his books are required reading and I highly recommend all of Hogan’s work.

N.B. Timothy’s Hogan’s The Alchemical Keys to Masonic Ritual and The 32 Secret Paths of Solomon: A New Examination of the Qabbalah in Freemasonry are also available in revised and expanded versions as part of his fine new publication, Novo Clavis Esoterika, published by Brazen Serpent.

The Occult of Personality Membership Section interview with Timothy Hogan about his book The Revelation of the Holy Grail, a fascinating exploration of the Grail tradition, is now available.

A 2008 Channel 5 History Documentary narrated by Colin Tierney.

Secrets of the Cross uncovers the tantalizing mysteries at the heart of the Christian tradition.
Stories that have shaped Western culture are critically re-examined by world renowned scholars and scrutinized in the light of compelling new evidence. Familiar tales and characters are re-cast in a new light as new truths are uncovered and 2000 year old mysteries solved. The series strips back layers of history to reveal surprising and provocative truths. Archaeological and historical evidence explode the myths embedded in the traditional tales and expert witnesses detail the conspiracies and cover-ups that have obscured the truth at each story's heart.

Trial of the Knights Templar deals with the downfall of the order. This warrior knight fraternity is examined from the standpoint of its ignominious end. There's a good historical overview of the more commonly accepted origins of the Templars, and an excellent analysis of the dialectic between the King of France and the Pope, a power struggle which ultimately led to the horrific demise of the Knights. Wiped out by the King of France, shocking evidence found in the Vatican reveals the vicious torturing of the Templars was fuelled by his extremist views and Christ complex as well as corporate greed.

A 2006 National Geographic History Documentary narrated by Enn Reitel.

This is part of "Secret Bible" series: A team of scientists joins forces with religious scholars to take a look at biblical tales of murder, miracles and mystery. In this documentary, examine the history of a powerful religious organization and find out why and how this long-dead institution still captures the world's imagination!

The medieval Knights Templar were warrior-monks, mostly aristocratic men who took vows of poverty, chastity and obedience in return for assurances that they would enter heaven. Thus guaranteed salvation and eternal life, they fought in the Crusades with reckless abandon. Sanello (The Opium Wars) pedantically traces the order's rise and fall over the course of two centuries. It originated in the 12th century to provide protection to pilgrims on their way to the Holy Land, and Templars fought courageously in various Crusades. By the beginning of the 13th century, they had become victims of their own courage, suffering tremendous military losses in Palestine. But their presence in Europe grew and their reputation as bankers developed. As Sanello points out, the Templars invented the check and established the first branch banks, where pilgrims could take out loans for their travels to Jerusalem.

By the early 14th century, however, the order had fallen on hard times, accused by the Inquisition of homosexuality, greed and heresy. Their Grand Master, Jacques de Molay, was burned at the stake as a heretic in 1314, and with this the order was banned. Through a focus on various legends that have since arisen-that the Templars were the precursors of Masons and keepers of the Holy Grail-Sanello shows how the order has been kept alive in name if not in reality.

A 2017 PBS NOVA History/Science Documentary narrated by Jay O Sanders.

A knight in shining armour may sound like a character out of a storybook, but once upon a time, knighthood was serious business, and for countless medieval fighters, their armour was what stood between life and death.
But what was it really like to live beneath the metal? How was that shining armour crafted, and how strong was it? Could it withstand impacts from the most lethal weapons of the day, including crossbows, muskets, and early guns? NOVA challenged blacksmith Ric Furrer and master armourer Jeff Wasson to recreate parts of an elite armour that was originally manufactured in the Royal Workshop founded by King Henry VIII.

We trace their successes and setbacks from start to finish as they rediscover centuries-old metalworking secrets, then put their new armour to the ultimate test against a period musket.

A 2000 four part History Documentary narrated by Art Malik.

Episode 4: The last episode examines the fall of the Templars. Their financial holdings appealed to a failing monarchy, they become the target for the financially strapped French King, and are arrested, tortured, tried and burned.

1 year, 11 months ago

A 2000 four part History Documentary narrated by Art Malik.

Episode 3: It lays the basis for the fall of the Holy Land and the effects it had on the Templars. Reinforced and secure, they lose their ground to the Mamluks. The power struggle plays out, the Holy Land is finally lost to the Crusaders, and the Templars move back into Europe to find they are financially secure, but have no reason now for existence.

Next Episode: Legend

1 year, 11 months ago

A 2000 four part History Documentary narrated by Art Malik.

Episode 2: Explains how much of an important part the Templars played in the construction of the financial basis for that time period in history. The foundation of the Templar finances is examined and clearly laid out.

Next Episode: Frontier

Note: This documentary lacks in production values and is somewhat dry in tone. There is much repetition in the visuals and music which can be a a bit annoying. But as far as the history is concerned, the material is well researched and well presented. The documentary talks in great length about the orthodox history of the Knights Templar rather than dealing with the "occult lore". This was a big plus for me because there are too many documentaries about that subject already, and in most cases there is nothing new.

However, they also examine the legends and stories about the Templars, in the last part, which puts into perspective some of the myths that started almost as soon as the last Templars were put to death.

The material is based on the researches of Prof. Malcolm Barber of the University of Reading in England, who appears in this production discussing the history presented. It is augmented with material by Dr. David Nicolle of the University of Nottingham in England as well. Both men are noted Medieval Historians and authors, Prof. Barber being a noted historian on the Crusades, and Dr. Nicolle being very well versed on medieval history, castles and warfare.

If you are new to this subject and looking for a broad overview of the history of the Knights Templar in a short period of time, this is an excellent place to start.

A 2000 four part History Documentary narrated by Art Malik.

They wielded a double-edged sword, combining military might and impressive financial power.
The Pope himself couldn't escape their long shadow and the whispers about a fabulous secret treasure, which was said to include the Holy Grail and the Ark of the Covenant. So who - or what - brought down the mighty Knights Templar? This is the story of an organisation extinct for nearly seven centuries, but whose legacy still echoes through some of today's "secret societies."

The first Templars were French knights dedicated to protecting Christians on pilgrimage to holy sites. Highly trained and passionately devoted to God, they fought with no fear of death and eventually became monks, albeit monks with no problem using a sword on their enemies. The Knights built the world's first multi-national corporation, a huge network of castles, farms and ships all designed to make money to support the Crusades. This financial empire helped Richard the Lionheart and the King of France, but also raised suspicions that these "holy men" were growing too powerful and independent. Thus began the accusations of heresy - and the burnings at the stake.

Professor Malcolm Barber, the world's leading Templar historian, explores the impressive rise and rapid fall of a group ahead of its time. Did the Knights cause the Crusades to ultimately fail? What happened to the surviving heroes of the Order? And - even more important - was there a secret treasure and where might it be now?

Episode 1: Explains how the Templars came about. They do not mention Hugh de Payne or the original group who are credited with the founding of the Templars, but does pick up from the time of the First Crusades, and does cover the circumstances of why a military order was needed, and how the Order was finally acknowledged and accepted.

Episode 3: There’s no place in modern times for the dashing life of the knights, the expensive armour, the horses, and the indispensable castle. Many Imperial Knights lose their jobs and fall into poverty by the early 1500s. Peasant revolts, armies of mercenaries, and a new way to fight wars using muskets and canons make the mounted knight in his cumbersome armour a thing of the past.

Episode 2: Gaining honour, respect and glory is all-important to the medieval knight. And embarking on a crusade to the Holy Land in pursuit of the ‘infidels’ is one way of getting it. The story of Heinrich von Neuffen provides unprecedented insights into this largely unknown aspect of the crusades.

But beyond the pious motives of the crusades, courtly love also played an important role in the life of a knight. Fighting for a lady’s favour in the joust could elevate him to superstar status. Impressive fighting prowess would be rewarded with admiration and popularity everywhere. Only the glory of fictional superheroes like King Arthur, Percival, Roland or Tristan could surpass that of a successful knight.

This elegant and exciting 3-part series evokes the time of the knights in a unique and intimate rollercoaster ride of individual lives set in the wider context of medieval Europe. Their stories are told in gripping re-enactments, illustrated by stunning CGI and explored with engaging documentary sequences.

Episode 1: A fierce warrior-class emerges in medieval Europe around 1000 years ago: The Knights!
They live brutal lives, glorified by tales of chivalry and courtly love that have left us with a skewed idea of knighthood. In reality, it’s a world of freezing castles and violent battles, where joust competitions, fair maidens and the crusades are the latest fads. Manners and gallantry are everything and their abuse can end in deadly duels.

The King of Dragons is a horizontally-scrolling hack 'n' slash beat-em-up for up to three players who must travel through the kingdom of Malus, defeating the army of monsters who have invaded their world, before finally defeating their leader, the red dragon Gildiss.

The game's controls consist of a single attack button and a jump button. By pressing both buttons simultaneously, the character will unleash a magical attack that strikes all on-screen enemies at once, with the trade-off that each time a special attack is executed, some of the player's health is lost.

King of Dragons features a level advancement system. Points scored for killing monsters and picking up gold count towards experience and the character gains levels at regular intervals. With each level, the character's health bar increases and other attributes, such as attack range, are also improved. At the point of levelling up, the character is also invulnerable for a few seconds. Along the way, different weapon and armour upgrades can be picked up.

Player can choose from five playable characters, each with their own strengths and weaknesses:
* The Fighter is very good with melee attacks and defense but lacks magical ability.
* The Dwarf can dodge and block attacks, has decent melee attacks but little magic ability.
* The Elf is agile and uses his bow for ranged attacks but is not physically strong.
* The Cleric has good defense, melee attacks and magic (and can heal his comrades) but poor agility.
* The Wizard has poor defense but very good magical attacks and fast melee attacks.

The fighter, cleric and dwarf can also use their shield to block certain attacks by tilting the joystick back right before the impact. The King of Dragons features sixteen stages of play.

Though a Very Powerful Vatican Knighthood, its Rarely Discussed on Big " Truther " Channels. Who are they and What are their Goals ? BTW the Double Headed Bird seems to be a PHOENIX, Not an Eagle like the Video Says.
