Soon after he shot three people, a panicked 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse told a friend he expected to go to jail for life, but that if he had not fired, he would "probably be dead."
The account comes from a newly released video of a Kenosha detective questioning Dominick Black, the 19-year-old charged with buying Rittenhouse the rifle he used to kill two people and injure a third.
“The dude’s sweating like a pig. He’s just freaking out. His face is white,” Black said of Rittenhouse.
“He’s like, ‘I’m going to jail for the rest of my life. I’m done.’ He’s just scared. I'm just trying to calm him down."
Rittenhouse was charged with two counts of homicide and faces four other charges in connection with the Aug. 25 Kenosha protest shootings that killed Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26, and injured Gaige Grosskreutz, 26.
He was released Friday afternoon from the Kenosha County Jail after his attorney posted the $2 million bail. His legal team has said he acted in self-defense.
Black faces charges of intentionally providing a dangerous weapon to a minor, resulting in death. He was bound over for trial earlier this week.
Black and Rittenhouse told police they had were in Kenosha to protect a car lot during the unrest that followed the police shooting of Jacob Blake. Both were armed.
Detective Ben Antaramian questioned Black for about an hour the morning of Aug. 26 at the police station in Antioch, Illinois, where Rittenhouse had turned himself in.
The video adds more detail to documents released last month by Antioch police that described Black's initial account to police there after the shooting. Rittenhouse's sister also was questioned that night. A video of Rittenhouse's interview has not yet been released.

One man has been stabbed and two police officers injured as clashes between anti-Trump protesters and the president's supporters continue in Washington DC after the 'Million MAGA March' saw tens of thousands flock to the Capitol.
Violence erupted on Saturday night as left and right-wing groups descended into a brawl at around 8pm just five blocks from the White House. The ugly scenes lasted for several minutes as the two groups wielded batons and pushed and shoved each other until cops intervened.
A man in his 20s was left with serious injuries and rushed to the hospital after being stabbed in the back during the altercation.
Another female Black Lives Matter protester was knocked the ground where she was left lying with blood covering her face as the pro-Trump group filmed her and screamed 'F*** Antifa'.
She was eventually helped from the ground and carried to a nearby bench by a police officer as the violence continued around her and cops rushed to try and separate the two groups, according to a video shared by Daily Caller contributor Matthew Miller.
Earlier, anti-Trump protesters were seen throwing fireworks and bottles at his fans as they dined outside a restaurant at around 6pm, with one Trump supporter throwing a chair back in retaliation after a firework exploded right beside him.
The Trump supporters initially tried to shout back at the large group of protesters gathered around them chanting 'people are dying while you are dining', before being forced to flee inside when the fireworks began.
D.C. police reported at least twenty arrests as of Saturday night but social media footage showed more people being detained as night progressed.
Ten of thousands of Pro-Trump groups gathered in Freedom Plaza at noon on Saturday afternoon, listening to speeches before marching toward the Supreme Court. Left-wing activists also arrived to counter-protest, and minor skirmishes of pushing and shoving broke out, but police formed lines to separate the two groups.
Multiple police lines blocked Trump supporters from entering the Black Lives Matter Plaza area as night fell and tensions rose.
Those who managed to get inside the area were doused with water and saw their MAGA hats and pro-Trump flags snatched. Videos posted on social media showed some demonstrators and counterdemonstrators trading shoves, punches and slaps.
A man with a bullhorn yelling 'Get out of here!' was pushed to the street by a man who was then surrounded by several people and shoved and punched until he fell face first into the street. Bloody and dazed, he was picked up and walked to a police officer.

Attorneys for Kyle Rittenhouse have released new footage of the shootings he carried out during protests and riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin, arguing that they demonstrate a clear-cut case of self-defense.
Rittenhouse, 17, is charged with intentional homicide and other charges for fatally shooting two and injuring one during a confrontation on August 25, the third night of protests over the police shooting of Jacob Blake, a black man who was shot in the back and paralyzed.
On Tuesday, Rittenhouse's attorney Lin Wood released footage outlining the defense's version of events on the night of the shootings, in particular highlighting the events leading up to the first shooting, which was not captured on widely-circulated video of the subsequent two shootings.
In a slickly produced 11-minute video released by Wood's FightBack Foundation, the defense team argues that other shots were fired before and after the first fatal shooting, which killed 36-year-old Joseph Rosenbaum.
Rittenhouse, a high school student and lifeguard in nearby Antioch, Illinois, has said that he and his friends were called upon by a business owner in Kenosha to help maintain the peace after several businesses were burned by protesters in preceding nights.
Video from earlier in the evening shows him with a first-aid kit offering medical aid to protesters. He also carries an AR-15-style rifle. The legal age to open carry in Wisconsin is 18.
The video makes clear that Kyle was acting in self defense fearing his life was endangered. Clear video clips of the night's events shows that multiple attempts were made to injure and kill Rittenhouse as he fled to find the police.
