Defiled for the Dead
—————————-
“And the Lord said unto Moses, Speak unto the priests the sons of Aaron, and say unto them, There shall none be defiled for the dead among his people:

But he shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to profane himself. They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their flesh.”
‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭21:1, 4-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And if any man die very suddenly by him, and he hath defiled the head of his consecration; then he shall shave his head in the day of his cleansing, on the seventh day shall he shave it. And on the eighth day he shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons, to the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: And the priest shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, and make an atonement for him, for that he sinned by the dead, and shall hallow his head that same day.”
‭‭Numbers‬ ‭6:9-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Perhaps the first clue regarding shaving one's beard is the ritual purification of the Metsora or "leper". We read in Leviticus 14:9: "And it shall be on the seventh day, that he shall shave all his hair off his head and his beard and his eyebrows, even all his hair he shall shave off; and he shall wash his clothes, and he shall bathe his flesh in water, and he shall be clean." We see that in certain contexts a person is required to shave his beard, and this is even an act of purification. Similarly, we read about the consecration of the Levites: "And thus shalt thou do unto them, to cleanse them: sprinkle the water of purification upon them, and let them cause a razor to pass over all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes, and cleanse themselves." (Numbers 8:7). Again we see that shaving the beard and indeed all the hair is not only permissible but can be an act of purification. In contrast, the prohibition of Leviticus 19 is to shave the head or beard as an act of mourning!

Act of Mourning
———————-
“That there came certain from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even fourscore men, having their beards shaven, and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves, with offerings and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of the Lord.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭41:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Wherefore Hanun took David's servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away. When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed: and the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.”
‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭10:4-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Pagan worship was rampant in the ancient world. From Ireland to Egypt, to Assyria and India, and even to China and Mexico, the idolatrous pagan traditions were similar if not the same. The names of the gods and goddesses changed with each country, but the rituals remained the same or similar. It all came from Bavel (Babylon). Hislop states:
‘The disk and particularly the circle were the well known symbols of the Sun-divinity, and figured largely in the symbolism of the East. With the circle or the disk, the head of the Sun divinity was encompassed. The same was the case in Pagan Rome.’4 (The Roman Empire before the Catholic Church conquered it.)
Hislop goes on to say that the nimbus was the same for the Roman Madonna (Virgin Mary). The kipa is the physical representation of the nimbus, disk or circle. Lev. 19:27 reads: ‘You must not shave around the sides of your head, nor harm the edges of your beard.’5 It is this rounded head that the ancient pagans, and many Catholic clerics to this day, wear as a symbol of identification with the god of the sun, whether they realize it or not. Where did the Pope and his Cardinals get their kipa from? Some say they took it from the Jews, but the Catholics actually had it long before the Jewish people had their kipa.

The dictionary states that a tonsure (the head shaved in the form of a circle), means ‘to shear.’ Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary states that the tonsure was the rite of initiation to the priesthood of Roman Catholicism:
‘The Roman Catholic and Eastern rite of admission to the clerical state, by the clipping or shaving of a portion of the head...the shaven crown or patch worn by monks and other clerics...a bald spot resembling a tonsure to shave the head’, especially to confer some kind of clerical authority.’

Alexander Hislop further elaborates about Roman Catholicism: gods and goddess of Babylon.

‘These celibate priests have all a certain mark set upon them at their ordination; and that is the clerical tonsure. The tonsure is the first part of the ceremony of ordination; and it is held to be a most important element in connection with the orders of the Romish clergy.’

“When, after long contendings, the Picts were at last brought to submit to the Bishop of Rome, the acceptance of this tonsure.

Leviticus 19 (Part Three)

3 months, 1 week ago

Verse 19
————
“Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind: thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee.”
‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭19:19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after his kind,”
‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭11:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

What about horses and donkeys?
A mule is the offspring of a male donkey (jack) and a female horse (mare). Horses and donkeys are different species, with different numbers of chromosomes. Of the two first generation hybrids between these two species, a mule is easier to obtain than a hinny, which is the offspring of a female donkey (jenny) and a male horse (stallion).

The different structure and number usually prevents the chromosomes from pairing up properly and creating successful embryos, rendering most mules infertile; so God gets the last word.

King David had a mule:

“So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David's mule, and brought him to Gihon.”
‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭1:38‬ ‭KJV‬‬

These hybrids were either the issue of parents voluntarily coming together without the aid of the Israelites, or were imported from other countries. This law is binding upon the Jews to this day in every country where they happen to live, whether in Palestine or out of it.

“And all the earth sought to Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart. And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, and armour, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year.”
‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭10:24-25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The Holy God has made everything “after its kind” (Genesis 1:11-12; Genesis 1:21; Genesis 1:24-25), and has thus established a physical distinction in the order of His creation. For man to bring about a union of dissimilar things is to bring about a dissolution of the Divine laws and to act contrary to the ordinances of Him who is holy, and to whose holiness we are to attain.

Horses, donkeys, and zebras are a kind.

“And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

That is, the following ordinances, which though not of the same high moral nature as the precepts laid down in the preceding verses, are yet necessary to attain to holiness. The Holy God has made everything “after its kind” (Gen. 1:11-12; 1:21; 1:24-25). And has thus established a physical distinction in the order of His creation. For man to bring about a union of dissimilar things is to bring about a dissolution of the Divine laws and to act contrary to the ordinances of Him who is holy, and to whose holiness we are to attain.

"Cattle gender with a diverse kind": Such co-mixtures would not only contravene the Divine order of things, but would lessen the abhorrence of the crime prohibited in (Lev. 18:22-23). The use, however, of animals produced from such mixtures was not forbidden. Hence we find that mules were largely employed by the Jews (2 Sam. 13:29; 18:9; 1 Kings 1:33; 1:38; 10:25; 18:5; Ezra 2:66). These hybrids were either the issue of parents voluntarily coming together without the aid of the Israelites, or were imported from other countries. This law is binding upon the Jews to this day in every country where they happen to live, whether in Palestine or out of it.

Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind": This was prohibited, partly, to restrain the curiosity and boldness of men, who might attempt to amend or change the works of God. Partly, that by the restraints here laid even upon brute creatures’, that men might be taught to abhor all unnatural and unlawful lusts. Partly, to teach the Israelites to avoid mixtures with other nations, either in marriage or in religion. Which also may be signified by the following prohibitions. See of this and the next (Deut. 22:9-11). These mixtures may have been characteristic of some idolatrous practices.

"A garment mingled of linen and woollen": Although this precept, like the other two with which it is associated, was in all probability designed to root out some superstition, it seems to have had a further meaning. The law, it is to be observed, did not prohibit the Israelites wearing many different kinds of cloths together, but only the two specified. And the observations and researches of modern science have proved that "wool, when combined with linen, increases its power of passing off the electricity from the body. In hot climates, it brings on malignant fevers and exhausts the strength. And when passing off from the body, it meets with the heated air, inflames and excoriates like a blister" (see Ezek. 44:17-18).

God does not say you can keep my statutes if you want to.

A Sunday School Lesson on Leviticus 19

Is the King James Bible the Inspired Word of God? The Sunday School teacher attempts to answer this question.

A Repetition of the Ten Commandments

“knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,”
1 Timothy 1:9 KJV

Verse 2
————
“Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy.”
Leviticus 19:2 KJV

“Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:”
1 Peter 2:11-15 KJV

“Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”
1 Peter 1:16 KJV

Verse 3
————
“Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the Lord your God.”
Leviticus 19:3 KJV

“Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.”
Hebrews 12:9-10 KJV

Sabbaths
—————
“Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord.”
Leviticus 19:30 KJV

“For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.”
Hebrews 7:12 KJV

“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:”
Colossians 2:16 KJV

Verse 4
————
“Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am the Lord your God.”
Leviticus 19:4 KJV

“Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.”
Exodus 34:17 KJV

“They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed. Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing?”
Isaiah 44:9-10 KJV

“For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen; Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth. Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:”
Acts 19:24-26 KJV

“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:”
Exodus 20:4 KJV

Did Jesus Speak About Homosexuality?

1 year, 1 month ago

In the Old Testament, in order to be made right with God, there was a temporary way into God's presence once a year on the day of atonement. This set time was reoccurring and something that God laid out as a shadow that pointed to the shed blood of Christ sufficient to cover us once and for all. His shed blood, unlike any other blood sacrifice, had and still has the power to wash and cleanse us, to forgive, to restore, to reconcile and to bring us back into communion and fellowship with God. All that's required is simple faith in His finished work.

Pastor Melissa Scott exposed the truth about the Atonement: Made Complete by the Blood of Christ.

Leviticus 16:1-19 King James Version

1And the Lord spake unto Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered before the Lord, and died;
2And the Lord said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the veil before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.
3Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.
4He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on.
5And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering.
6And Aaron shall offer his bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make an atonement for himself, and for his house.
7And he shall take the two goats, and present them before the Lord at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
8And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the Lord, and the other lot for the scapegoat.
9And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the Lord's lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering.
10But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the Lord, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.
11And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself:
12And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the Lord, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the veil:
13And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the Lord, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not:
14And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward; and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times.
15Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the veil, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat:
16And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness.
17And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation when he goeth in to make an atonement in the holy place, until he come out, and have made an atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the congregation of Israel.
18And he shall go out unto the altar that is before the Lord, and make an atonement for it; and shall take of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about.
19And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.

In the midst of laying out God's instructions to His people, there is the story of an incident God used to make an example. The son of an Israelitish woman was condemned to death for cursing the name of God. God made it clear that He would not tolerate blasphemy; He demands respect. Failing to recognize that God is who He says He is, especially when we have His presence with us, is like a knife piercing His heart.

Pastor Melissa Scott exposed the truth about the exposition of the word "Sanctification".

Leviticus 24 King James Version

24 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

1 Command the children of Israel, that they bring unto thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamps to burn continually.

3 Without the vail of the testimony, in the tabernacle of the congregation, shall Aaron order it from the evening unto the morning before the Lord continually: it shall be a statute for ever in your generations.

4 He shall order the lamps upon the pure candlestick before the Lord continually.

5 And thou shalt take fine flour, and bake twelve cakes thereof: two tenth deals shall be in one cake.

6 And thou shalt set them in two rows, six on a row, upon the pure table before the Lord.

7 And thou shalt put pure frankincense upon each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, even an offering made by fire unto the Lord.

8 Every sabbath he shall set it in order before the Lord continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant.

9 And it shall be Aaron's and his sons'; and they shall eat it in the holy place: for it is most holy unto him of the offerings of the Lord made by fire by a perpetual statute.

10 And the son of an Israelitish woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel: and this son of the Israelitish woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp;

11 And the Israelitish woman's son blasphemed the name of the Lord, and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses: (and his mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan:)

12 And they put him in ward, that the mind of the Lord might be shewed them.

13 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

14 Bring forth him that hath cursed without the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him.

15 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoever curseth his God shall bear his sin.

16 And he that blasphemeth the name of the Lord, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death.

17 And he that killeth any man shall surely be put to death.

18 And he that killeth a beast shall make it good; beast for beast.

19 And if a man cause a blemish in his neighbour; as he hath done, so shall it be done to him;

20 Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again.

21 And he that killeth a beast, he shall restore it: and he that killeth a man, he shall be put to death.

22 Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the Lord your God.

23 And Moses spake to the children of Israel, that they should bring forth him that had cursed out of the camp, and stone him with stones. And the children of Israel did as the Lord commanded Moses.

Pastor Scott does a word study in the Hebrew on the subject of “holy” and “sanctification”. Going through the verbs in their forms in the Hebrew within the Book of Leviticus, it actually becomes clearer what the “holy” and “sanctification” words don’t mean. Understanding how these Hebrew words are functioning, gives clarity to the text.

Pastor Melissa Scott exposed the truth about the exposition of the word sanctification.

1 year, 2 months ago

Studying grammar, particularly antonyms like "common" and "profane", helps us better understand the original meanings of the Hebrew words related to holiness and sanctification. We have a language problem, where holiness is made synonymous with perfection; it cannot mean perfection or sinlessness except when speaking of God and His attributes. When God declares people holy, they are set apart and dedicated, not perfect

Pastor Melissa Scott exposed the truth about the words Sanctification and Holiness.

Leviticus 21 King James Version

1 And the Lord said unto Moses, Speak unto the priests the sons of Aaron, and say unto them, There shall none be defiled for the dead among his people:

2 But for his kin, that is near unto him, that is, for his mother, and for his father, and for his son, and for his daughter, and for his brother.

3 And for his sister a virgin, that is nigh unto him, which hath had no husband; for her may he be defiled.

4 But he shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to profane himself.

5 They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their flesh.

6 They shall be holy unto their God, and not profane the name of their God: for the offerings of the Lord made by fire, and the bread of their God, they do offer: therefore they shall be holy.

7 They shall not take a wife that is a whore, or profane; neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband: for he is holy unto his God.

8 Thou shalt sanctify him therefore; for he offereth the bread of thy God: he shall be holy unto thee: for I the Lord, which sanctify you, am holy.

9 And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire.

10 And he that is the high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head, nor rend his clothes;

11 Neither shall he go in to any dead body, nor defile himself for his father, or for his mother;

12 Neither shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him: I am the Lord.

13 And he shall take a wife in her virginity.

14 A widow, or a divorced woman, or profane, or an harlot, these shall he not take: but he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife.

15 Neither shall he profane his seed among his people: for I the Lord do sanctify him.

16 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

17 Speak unto Aaron, saying, Whosoever he be of thy seed in their generations that hath any blemish, let him not approach to offer the bread of his God.

18 For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous,

19 Or a man that is brokenfooted, or brokenhanded,

20 Or crookbackt, or a dwarf, or that hath a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken;

21 No man that hath a blemish of the seed of Aaron the priest shall come nigh to offer the offerings of the Lord made by fire: he hath a blemish; he shall not come nigh to offer the bread of his God.

22 He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy.

23 Only he shall not go in unto the vail, nor come nigh unto the altar, because he hath a blemish; that he profane not my sanctuaries: for I the Lord do sanctify them.

24 And Moses told it unto Aaron, and to his sons, and unto all the children of Israel.

This lesson is the first of two lessons on the book of Leviticus, so named for its focus on the activities of the priestly tribe of Levi, though they're only mentioned by name in two verses. It is the third book of the Pentateuch or Torah and continues where Exodus leaves off, with detailed instructions from God to Moses, not just for the priesthood but also for the people.
