I dissect the dynamics of Threads, an app that's inextricably tied to your Instagram account. This integration presents a challenge for users wanting to disconnect, as deleting Threads means you'd have to do away with your Instagram account too - a crafty strategy encouraging mass sign-ups.
Despite boasting over 100 million users, the platform witnesses minimal interaction, with most people just lurking after creating their accounts. Interestingly, while Threads might have aimed to mirror Twitter's status-posting feature, it doesn't quite resonate with a significant chunk of Instagram users, who don't necessarily engage with Twitter. This is partly because Twitter serves more as a news platform, unlike how Threads is currently being utilized. Another major concern is the high level of censorship, with the app issuing warnings when you attempt to follow users accused of spreading misinformation. Tune in as I break down why this isn't the best approach for running a platform.
I delve into the contrast between Meta verification on Threads and Twitter Blue verification. I've noticed a significant trend of users migrating to Threads under the pretext that Twitter now charges for verification. However, a deeper look reveals that Meta verification is far more invasive and almost twice as expensive - $22 for Canadians, compared to Twitter's $12.
On the upside, the Meta fee covers both Instagram and Threads. But the catch lies in the extremely intrusive process that requires you to submit your actual ID even for changing profile pictures, thus tightly linking you to your account. On the other hand, Twitter only asks for your phone number - an approach that allows greater privacy and more room for maintaining multiple accounts. In my opinion, Twitter's model is better because it involves less censorship and respects user privacy more than Threads offers.

For those who don’t know, the Metaverse is Mark Zuckerbergs attempt of creating an augmented reality, where he hopes that many of the population will soon be glued to their sofa, plugged into VR headsets, in what he calls an “alternative universe”.
