Hello Im Skill Incarnate and Welcome to My Games Review Series.
My reviews cover indie games that i have bought, had gifted to me and have been provided by developers for review.

In this episode check out a unique new cyberpunk horror FPS called Voltage High Society, created by small developer Platonic Partnership.
Voltage High Society bills itself as an FPS Metroidvania with cyberpunk and body horror aesthetics. It places the player in control of a prisoner trapped in a prison full of cybernetically mutated horrors with nothing but their bare hands to defend themselves.
There are no ranged weapons in the game so youll need to master using your fists along with upgrades like tasers to stand a chance of making it out alive.

ENTER. EVOLVE. ESCAPE.
In this cyberpunk-bodyhorror-metroidvania, you are a nameless prisoner thrown into an island ruled by cybernetic monsters. Fight your way through the horrors, gain new weapons and abilities, and look for a way out. Inspired by japanese cyberpunk and Escape from New York, featuring gritty retro graphics with modern touches.

DISCOVER NEW WEAPONS, ABILITIES & LOCATIONS
In true Metroidvania-style, the tools you acquire will grant you access to new areas, ways to fight your enemies, and solve puzzles.
FIGHT CYBERNETIC HORRORS
Fast-paced and unique combat. As you roam around the levels you'll constantly run into new monster designs to keep you on your toes. And, instead of having firearms, you´ll do more than just aim & shoot at things.
GRITTY RETRO AESTHETICS
Combining both modern & old school tech, black & white visuals and vibrant colors, you'll always have surprises ahead. One area might be dark and gritty with menacing monsters, the other a parade of colours with fast-paced arcade combat.

The final area has a lot of puzzles, and the final boss is alright. The game is okay overall.

3 months, 3 weeks ago

We go back into the Forbidden City, and get our final mission: to find and stop the Rimarosa.

3 months, 3 weeks ago

In order to fix the mechanical seahorse, we need three parts from the corners of the map. Is this the penultimate quest?

3 months, 3 weeks ago

The Ice Shot is cool, and adds another layer of depth to the puzzles.

3 months, 3 weeks ago

Sonar is a neat ability, but seems like it maybe could've been used a little better. The range is really short, though maybe that's on purpose.

3 months, 3 weeks ago

It looks really cool, and the Fomori remind me a lot of the Dwemer from The Elder Scrolls.

3 months, 4 weeks ago

Cara told us the Deeplight will help us find our father. I don't know how it'll help, but we need some resonance orbs for it.

3 months, 4 weeks ago

The game is actually really open for a metroidvania. You can go to a lot of areas, but can't really do much with them until you get the correct upgrades.

Exploring the Skeleton Reef, getting some background about the Fomori, and fighting the first boss. A lot happened this episode.

I'm glad quitting and restarting the game fixed the issue, otherwise I would've had to stop.

I wish I knew how much the game utilized physics in the puzzles and the environment. Maybe they mentioned it and I didn't notice.

Made by Insomniac Games (allegedly) this is a more Indie style game. It's an underwater metroidvania, that really reminds me of Studio Ghibli during the opening. I've heard the game has lots of bugs though.

Unworthy is a game I'd never heard of before, which is a shame. It might be one of the best Soulslike games I've played. It's a Metroidvania, too. Hard, but feels really fair.

4 months, 2 weeks ago

We finally defeat the final boss, and get the ending. But what does it all mean? Does the boss change on New Game Plus? I know there's a hidden ending, that's something for you to get for yourselves. ;)

4 months, 2 weeks ago

You are no longer a broken bell.

4 months, 3 weeks ago

The game does a good job of changing up the gameplay, the Godless Shrine has really hard combat, while The Laboratory has more puzzles.

4 months, 3 weeks ago

Was she the woman that told us about the clock tower?

4 months, 3 weeks ago

Like the rest of the game, a lot of thought was put into this area to make it feel unique and interesting.

4 months, 3 weeks ago

To be fair, they hate everyone but themselves. The Godless Shrine is BY FAR the hardest area so far.

4 months, 3 weeks ago

Thornvale is an interesting area. I wonder if there's a specific path you have to take?

4 months, 3 weeks ago

Finally beating Frayed Knight Dominic, exploring a little and challenging the Undone Palace.

4 months, 3 weeks ago

The boss draws inspiration from False King Allant of Demon's Souls, Olrox from Castlevania Symphony of the Night, and probably a couple others I've forgotten or didn't notice.

4 months, 4 weeks ago

In this episode of Talk About Games, Mike Matei and Ryan talk about what defines a Metroidvania!

Thanks for watching Talk About Games, where Mike Matei and Ryan each bring a game to the table and talk about them every Friday! They'll cover everything from retro classics to indie titles to modern new releases. It's a discussion about video games by lifelong fans.

4 months, 4 weeks ago

The level design is really good here, constructed to have enemies that complement each other. It makes it really challenging, but still seem fair.

4 months, 4 weeks ago

It's a neat mechanic, and should add some changes to the puzzles. It's a weapon, too!

The boss fights in this game are hard, but really creative. Once you learn the patterns it feels really good.

First burn damage, now frost. Giant skeletons are scary.

Hello Im Skill Incarnate and Welcome to My Games Review Series.
My reviews cover indie games that i have bought, had gifted to me and have been provided by developers for review.

In this episode I try out a wierd and colourful take on the Metroidvania genre with Moo Lander.
Moo Lander takes place in the far future and follows the Landers, a Space Faring Civilization that is on the edge of extinction due to war. The Landers rely on a resource called the Cosmic Milk which is used for everything from fueling their spaceships, to milk powered weapons. The Landers have lost their source of milk due to the death of their Space Cows and send out an expedition to locate more. The player takes control of the last Lander Spaceship as you search for a way to save your people.

Moo Lander differs from traditional Metroidvania Titles due to a focus on vehicle combat and puzzles solving, along with a heavy dose of comedy.

You can probably guess it on your own (I didn't) but they also tell you at one point, if you're paying attention (which I wasn't.)

I thought he was going to be a friendly blacksmith. :(

5 months, 1 week ago

This game is SUPER underrated. It has a slow pace and a extremely forgiving roll. When you combine those with good boss design it leaves me feeling like every death is fair (and also my fault.) It's worth playing.

5 months, 1 week ago

I react to fireb0rn's speedrun, as per request. Honestly I'm so blown away I probably don't even have the capability to react properly. I might not even be capable of rational thought afterwards. :)

Watch fireb0rn's video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFZy2gtwpI4&t=0s

Go ahead and give him a view and a like, he does an incredible job!

5 months, 1 week ago

I go through the whole video, even spoiling the Godmaster stuff for myself. I have mixed feelings about spoiling it for myself, but I was willing to risk it in pursuit of the lore.

5 months, 3 weeks ago

He does a good job of tying everything together, and it seems there's a LOT of stuff I've missed.

5 months, 3 weeks ago

Per request, I'm reacting to mossbag's video "The (Mostly) Complete Lore of Hollow Knight" and I'm thinking it'll be good. If you haven't watched mossbag's video, go watch it!

5 months, 3 weeks ago

This was a really good game, and I really had a good time playing it. Thanks to everyone who watched, and I hope you guys enjoyed it!

5 months, 3 weeks ago

I missed one of the endings, but since I like exploring I don't mind very much.

5 months, 3 weeks ago

I love they made his attacks the same. They actually give us the fight we didn't get from the arena!

5 months, 3 weeks ago

The true form of the Kingsoul reveals itself, we finally win against the Failed Champion, and learn all fifty seven precepts of Zote the Mighty.

5 months, 4 weeks ago

A perk of stumbling all over the map at random is finding some of the NPC quests that I've missed.

5 months, 4 weeks ago

The DLC has multiple outcomes. I didn't expect it, honestly, but I'm satisfied with the end we get.

5 months, 4 weeks ago

I'm not sure I should've done what the Nailsmith wanted... Fighting Grimm is kinda cool. We're also given a choice...

Cloth, one of my favorite NPCs, returns. I think I missed the rest of the quest though. :(

Finding flames upgrades the Grimmchild, so it can now attack enemies. What will the next upgrade do?

I was told that if you go to the other side of shopkeepers, they say things. I record a few weeks ahead sometimes, so if it seems I talk about comments late, that's why.

Does anything happen if you sit? Weird reminders of PlaneScape Torment and the Throne of the Silent King.

Is this real life, or is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide... of sawblades and other sharpness. Even Freddy can't help us here.

More exploring, collecting essence, talking to random strangers in the darkness.

Persona reference, of course. Zote the Mighty and his fearsome weapon are here in Deepnest as well.

6 months, 1 week ago

Deepnest is dark, with some horrible things lurking within. It's also so huge I can't explore it all at once.

6 months, 1 week ago

We find the Abyss, and also finish Quirrel's questline, mostly by accident.

6 months, 1 week ago

The Hunter is an interesting character. He constantly feels like he's present, yet you never see him.

6 months, 1 week ago

Hallownest shall recognize a new ruler. The Kingdom's gates will open.

6 months, 1 week ago

In a world full of secret passageways, it seems you have to attack and push against every wall.

6 months, 1 week ago

The Spire houses the second of the seals we need to destroy. It also has a working telescope!

6 months, 1 week ago

So... giant mushroom? Something about a pale wyrm?

6 months, 2 weeks ago

Relic Seeker Lemm will buy your trinkets (assuming you don't smell) if you need the geo.

6 months, 2 weeks ago

Sometimes it's possible to rely on healing too much.

6 months, 2 weeks ago

Doing what the Grey Mourner needs is going to be nearly impossible, I think. Another boss (or mini-boss) in the Ancient Basin.

6 months, 2 weeks ago

The Failed Champion is really hard. I need to figure out a new strategy for this one.

6 months, 2 weeks ago

Quirrel joins us for some jolly cooperation against a giant jellyfish.

6 months, 2 weeks ago

Not being able to find the map seller in Fog Canyon is stressful. Apparently I get turned around easily.

6 months, 3 weeks ago

Not quite ready for a drop into a spike lined pit, I explore in search of more essence and read more minds.

6 months, 3 weeks ago

The Souls games are clearly a huge inspiration for this game. Places have this feeling of familiarity, but that just piques my curiosity.

6 months, 3 weeks ago

I still don't know what the rancid eggs are for. But I guess I can buy them now? Also, the Dung Defender is still alive...

6 months, 3 weeks ago

The world is full of secrets, and it seems important to revisit old areas and see if anything new can be found.

6 months, 3 weeks ago

Learning another Nail Art requires a little bit of skill. Greenpath hides many secrets, apparently.

6 months, 3 weeks ago

We also see the consequence of lighting the flame in the Howling Cliffs.

6 months, 4 weeks ago

We speak to the ghosts inside the Spirits' Glade. I'm not sure why there's a girl scout as one of the spirits, though.

6 months, 4 weeks ago

Now that we have the dream nail, it seems we can do a lot of things...

The Dream Nail is pretty cool. Not great in battle but has a lot of utility. The ability to read the minds of enemies is pretty cool.

We get some exposition. Really reminds me of Aldia's Keep from Dark Souls 2.

We meet Hornet again at the Memorial to the Hollow Knight, and she tells us clues I don't understand. We also fight the Mantis Lords.

Technically it's not rain, and technically there's no streets, but yeah.

A mask shard tucked off in corner, behind a boss. City of Tears is really atmospheric, in a game full of atmosphere.

I'm getting some Legend of Zelda vibes from the cyclone slash. The Howling Cliffs are kind of interesting... It may be the actual edge of the world.

7 months, 1 week ago

The grubs seem really happy, I'm glad I get to help them out. The poetry SEEMS innocent enough, but you never know!

7 months, 1 week ago

Wanderers seeking death, welcome. May you find swift end upon our claws. Speaking of which...

7 months, 1 week ago

Confessor Jiji seems nice enough, though I hope I never need their services. I explore a bit more of the Fungal Wastes and meet Cloth.

7 months, 1 week ago

A bug named "Leg Eater" is selling charms in the Fungal Wastes. I appreciate the Elder giving us hints on where to go.

7 months, 1 week ago

Kinda funny how such a minor thing as a lantern is a big deal. Also if true warriors don't use the staglines, what is Tiso doing there? ;)

7 months, 1 week ago

The Baldur Shell charm looks really useful, and Fog Canyon looks really terrifying. What is this black fog wall I can't get past?

7 months, 1 week ago

We also meet Quirrel next to a lake full of acid.

7 months, 2 weeks ago

The Hunter's Notes are pretty cool. They give you flavor text and hints on how to defeat enemies. We also meet Zote the Mighty and his weapon, Life Ender.

7 months, 2 weeks ago

Hollow Knight's train system is pretty neat. Thankfully it's free, but I wonder if the devs originally planned for it to cost Geo?

7 months, 2 weeks ago

The minibosses can be tough, but the False Knight adds some extra challenge.

7 months, 2 weeks ago

Maps are pretty helpful in general. I suspect they'll be even more helpful in a game like this.

7 months, 2 weeks ago
