This last boss fight was pretty challenging (mainly because I suck at bullet hells). The strategy is to survive long enough since your shots are homing, but you have to make sure to be facing right as much as possible, which will speed up the process. Generally staying in the left side of the screen while constantly moving is what produced the best results for me. After defeating the boss our hero reconciles with you and thanks you for helping him through the hellish levels.
Never Give Up is a really fun brutal game. The levels are challenging and you will die a lot, but they never feel unfair or impossible. The character cursing and screaming instead of you makes deaths more comical and removes part of the frustration. The levels are well designed since every new iteration of the room still relies on your muscle memory, but you have to adapt to the extra challenges. The story is pretty basic, but serviceable.I would definitely recommend this game to people who enjoy titles like Super Meat Boy and don't mind dying a lot.
This set of levels is pretty challenging and it requires mastery of the controls like the slide wall jump and good timing with the slides and double jumps. At the end our hero meets the level boss, but this time around he's armed.

Using the 3 keys I unlocked the gate to the Source Code area, which is where the game starts breaking the 4th wall. Your character realises he's in a game and blames you for putting him through all the sadistic trials. Unfortunately for him the Matrix-themed levels here are quite brutal. They require precise jumps and even looping around the level multiple times to get to the exit.
Managed to complete the whole set of lava levels, which finished with a giant worm chasing our unfortunate hero while he was dodging traps.
After completing the last level in the Crystal Caverns I faced the area boss - a snot monster. It wasn't too challenging once you figure out its patterns, but the random platform appearance just before you hit one of its 3 brains could lead to some unavoidable deaths. Then I returned to the Dark Forest area. The levels here definitely were more challenging and that includes the boss - a 4 faced idol, each with a different attack. The red one spawns spikes on the floor (which are best avoided by sticking to a wall), the green one shoots spinning lasers, which are easy to dodge and the purple one is the most dangerous since he rains patterns of darts bullet hell style. The blue face is when you can damage him with a canon. It took me quite a few tries but eventually I succeeded.
Went back to playing Never Give Up. The brutal nature of the levels soon reminded me how the game is played (mostly via dying and learning how to tackle the newly added traps). This new set of levels adds crab enemies, which aren't a big problem on their own, but introduce some randomness, which could be an issue when, say, being chased by buzz-saws or tracking missiles.

The next set of brutal levels is in the Dark Forest where poison darts, man-eating plants and frogs are out to get you.
Continued playing Never Give Up and the set of levels I completed still have that brutal difficulty combined with a good learning curve. The boss battle was creative, but it didn't reveal much about the paper thin story, other than "find 3 more keys to learn the truth".
