22/05/2021 - New York Governor Andrew Cuomo disclosed Monday that he was paid a $3.1 million advance to write his COVID-19 leadership book last year and under his publishing contract will make another $2 million on the memoir over the next two years. That total windfall of more than $5.1 million further inflamed critics who have said it was inappropriate for Cuomo to personally enrich himself with a self-congratulatory book, published just as the state was seeing a deadly resurgence in infections last October.

12/05/2021 - New York City is still using refrigerated trucks to store bodies of coronavirus victims, more than a year after they were first set up as temporary morgues as deaths surged at the height of the pandemic. The city’s medical examiner’s office said Friday that 750 bodies are being kept in long-term storage in refrigerated trailers at a Brooklyn pier while family members sort out plans for their final resting places. Dina Maniotis, a deputy commissioner with the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, told a city council committee on Wednesday that many of the bodies held at the 39th Street Pier could end up buried in the city’s potter’s field on Hart Island.

NEW YORK - New York State will begin a major reopening on May 19 with most COVID capacity restrictions to be lifted while around-the-clock New York City subway service will be allowed to resume on May 17, announced New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo Monday.

With continued declining rates of the coronavirus, the governor, speaking to a room of reporters, said it was time to allow retail, food services, gyms and fitness centers, amusement and family entertainment, hair salons, barbershops, and offices to fully reopen.

"No capacity restrictions on all of those activities," Cuomo said.

The six-foot social distancing requirement will remain in effect unless all people present can prove they've been vaccinated or can show a recent negative test.

"If the CDC changes their guidance, then we'll change our guidance," added Cuomo.

All the various sectors of the economy including Broadway may choose to open on a different date due to critical mass limitations.

New Jersey and Connecticut will join the Empire State in following the same plan, according to Cuomo.

"The key is a smart reopening," added Cuomo. "It is a measured reopening. We are at a point now that we are going to take a major step to reopening."

Subways to resume 24-hour service; riders, workers worry about crime

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said in a statement the upcoming lifting of restrictions are a "hard-earned milestone" in the pandemic fight.

"As vaccination numbers continue to grow and new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths continue to rapidly decline — now is the time to reopen," Curran said. "Nassau is ready to reopen — our residents are ready, our businesses and downtowns are ready — let's do this."

The daylight assassin who shot her ex-lover, a mother-of-two, dead in the street on Wednesday should be treated as the victim of 'intergenerational trauma' who 'deserves compassion', according to a Democratic city council candidate.

Latisha Bell, 38, is in custody now for the murder of her 52-year-old girlfriend Nichelle Thomas.

On Wednesday, she walked up to her in the street in Park Slope, Brooklyn, and shot her in the back of the head then, hours later, turned herself in to police.

Her sister has since revealed that she has mental health problems and that the pair were together for 20 years before splitting three years ago. It's unclear where Latisha was able to get a gun; New York is a red flag law state which prevents people with a documented history of mental illness from buying firearms.

Her sister told DailyMail.com that Nichelle did something to make Latisha snap, but wouldn't say what it was. That was what prompted her to commit murder suddenly.

But on Thursday, Brandon West, the Democratic candidate for District 39 (Park Slope-Gowanus) said that it was Latisha who was the victim and claimed on Twitter: 'People don't just wake up one day and choose to commit homicide.'

He went on to say Latisha had been let down by the system.

'We can only progress if we recognize that even murderers and abusers are victims, as they're usually suffering at the hands of complex emotional and intergenerational trauma which compels them to commit awful acts. We should uplift compassion and understanding above all else.

'People grow up in hostile and toxic environments, experience abuse and poverty and receive minimal help or education from professionals and the government.

'This can lead to them having undiagnosed, unsupported mental and material issues that end up perpetuating violence,' he said.

'If we work toward catching these problems earlier, we'll see a substantial decline in all forms of person-to-person violence. Conversely, having beat cops on every corner of the city is not only impractical, but it won't solve this problem, and it'll exacerbate others,' she said.

He then, in his six of eight tweets, said: 'In that vein, I'd like to express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Nichelle Thomas. Her death is a tragedy for Park Slope.

'Additionally, I hope that by providing assistance to those in pain, we can prevent this type of violence in the future.'

Nichelle had two adult children. She was a beloved member of her church, and had lived in her apartment in Park Slope for 20 years, including some of the time with Latisha.

After her arraignment on Thursday, Latisha's sister told DailyMail.com: 'Something happened that I don't want to discuss - something really did happen that was traumatizing to my sister - she just couldn't deal with it anymore.

'She realized that she was using her for her own good. She felt she couldn't take it.

'Enough is enough,' she said.

My sister's been dealing with mental issues for a very long time. The other party was aware - I'm so sorry she had to go through this. I'm sorry both of them had to go through this.

'My sister doesn't deserve this. She tried to leave her alone but the woman kept coming back to her.'

Afterwards, Eric Adams - one of the mayoral candidates in the upcoming November election, made an appearance outside the deli where the shooting happened to advocate gun reform.

Latisha walked up to Nichelle and put a gun to the back of her head then pulled the trigger and fled the scene on Wednesday at 1pm.

Latisha later walked into a police station and told the cop on duty: 'I am turning myself in for the homicide.

'The gun is inside the bag. I need to talk to the homicide detective. I did the shooting.'

She is being held without bail on murder and weapons charges.

A woman has slammed a 'disrespectful' barman for describing her as the 'girl by herself' on her drinks receipt - despite drinking alone.

The woman, from the US, who goes by @GotMiAAngel on social media, was enjoying a quiet night out by herself in Washington, DC, but things took a downwards turn when she saw the receipt for the four cocktails she had ordered which came to to $64 (£46).

Taking to Twitter, she shared a photograph of the receipt and told how she was left frustrated when the waiter named Shaun had referred to her as the 'girl by herself.'

And it wasn't long before many took to the comments section to defend the woman in question, with one writing: 'Like why u pointing it out?? Like embarrassing you for what?'

Others shared their own experiences in a bid to make the woman feel better, with one writing: 'I feel you on this one,' before sharing a copy of a receipt which branded him: 'Raspy voice guy.'

Another captioned a post: 'That’s better than the one I got,' before sharing his receipt which read: 'Lil ugly dude.'

However, not everyone was in agreement, with some suggesting the woman was overreacting.

'Why disrespectful? Seems a simple way to help the waiters identify guests they are serving,' wrote one. 'How else would you like them to describe you - color of hair, clothes. Only in the US do you get so hung up on all this. We've got bigger issues to be thinking about than this petty one.'

As CBS2’s Andrea Grymes reports, police sources say there’s no indication Teague was planning any attack or was part of any plot. Police say he did not make any threats.
This incident comes just over a month after Teague’s father, Andrew Teague, was killed in a shootout with police in Columbus, Ohio.
Investigators there said they were initially trying to arrest Andrew Teague for a felony assault warrant, but he drove away from police.
Our CBS affiliate reported Andrew Teague ended up driving the wrong way on the highway, hitting two vehicles head-on, then got into a shootout once he got out of the car.
As for his son, it’s unclear when Saadiq Teague arrived in New York and why.
Teague is facing charges of criminal possession of a loaded firearm, criminal possession of an assault rifle and criminal possession of an ammo clip. He is also facing drug paraphernalia charges.

The man who viciously assaulted a 65-year-old Filipina woman by kicking her head in a savage attack in New York has been arrested, police said.

Brandon Elliot, 38, was detained by NYPD cops at 2am on Wednesday after CCTV footage of the horrific beating drew widespread condemnation and sparked a police manhunt.

Elliot is currently on lifetime parole after murdering his own mother in 2002 and was released from prison in 2019, according to NBC New York.

He lives in a Manhattan hotel serving as a homeless shelter near where Monday's attack took place and has been charged with felony assault as a hate crime.

The victim was on her way to church in Midtown when she was pushed to the ground and kicked in the head.

She had been walking towards the suspect in the moments before he attacked her when he reportedly told her: 'F*** you, you don't belong here.'

The footage also shows two security guards watch the attack unfold and fail to intervene.

The pair have been suspended from work, the Brodsky Organization, the management company for the building, announced on Tuesday.

NYPD officers had blanketed Manhattan with wanted posters and offered a $2,500 reward for any information on the suspect.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and mayoral candidate Andrew Yang expressed anger on Tuesday that nobody tried to stop the assault.

'Like so many other people, I woke up to a horrifying video of an Asian woman being horribly beaten for no other reason than her race,' Yang, who is currently considered the favorite to succeed de Blasio, told reporters in Brooklyn on Tuesday.

'An elderly Asian woman walking the streets of's Kitchen could easily have been my mother, because that's where we live.

'And so when I saw this video, that is who I thought of.'

Yang's comments were reported by the New York Post. The former candidate for the Democratic Party nomination for president is vying to be the first-ever mayor of Asian descent to take over City Hall.

The mayor, de Blasio, called the video 'absolutely disgusting and outrageous' and said it was 'absolutely unacceptable' that witnesses did not intervene.

'I don't care who you are, I don't care what you do, you've got to help your fellow New Yorker,' de Blasio said Tuesday at his daily news briefing.

'If you see someone being attacked, do whatever you can. Make noise. Call out what's happening. Go and try and help. Immediately call for help. Call 911.

'This is something where we all have to be part of the solution. We can't just stand back and watch a heinous act happening.'

In a statement Tuesday the Brodsky Organization - the management company for the building - said: 'The staff who witnessed the attack have been suspended pending an investigation in conjunction with their union.

'The Brodsky Organization is also working to identify a third-party delivery vendor present during the incident so that appropriate action can be taken.'

They added that they 'condemn all forms of discrimination, racism, xenophobia and violence against the Asian-American community.'

The attack comes amid a national spike in anti-Asian hate crimes. The NYPD says there have been 33 hate crimes with an Asian victim so far this year.

In the original footage, one of the men working in the building appeared to be busy opening up packages while the attack was ongoing.

At one point, a second security guard could be seen closing the front door to the premises where the pair were working, completely ignoring the woman who had just been the victim of a savage assault.

Neither decided to chase after the suspect who was still being hunted by police with a reward offered for information.

The suspect allegedly hurled anti-Asian statements as he punched and kicked the 65-year-old woman on West 43rd Street near Ninth Avenue just before midday, according to the NYPD.

Police in New York City are looking for a man who urinated on a young Asian-American woman inside a Queen-bound F train over the weekend.

The 25-year-old victim was riding the northbound train at around 1.30pm on Saturday when a masked man dressed in all black approached the bench where she was sitting and stood uncomfortably close to her.

'So I scooted to my right and noticed that his penis was pointed at me and that there was urine on my bag and jacket,' the victim told the blog AsianFeed. 'We made eye contact but he didn’t say anything.'

The vile incident took place a day after an elderly Sri Lankan man was punched in the face while riding the 1 train in Manhattan.

The woman said that none of the passengers around her said or did anything to come to her defense.

As her assailant, whom she described as a white male in his 60s, was about to get off the train at the 75th Avenue station, the woman managed to take a photo of him with her cellphone.

The suspect was last seen wearing a ski mask on his head revealing a pair of grey bushy eyebrows, and a black jacket with an American flag patch on his chest.

The victim told the blog she considered getting off the train right away and reporting the incident to the police, but she said she was 'alone and afraid,' so she continued on her way.

The 25-year-old has since filed a harassment report with the police. So far, no arrests have been announced.

This incident comes amid a dramatic increase in attacks targeting Asian-Americans since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

On Sunday, 36-year-old Marc Mathieu was arrested on a charge of assault as a hate crime for allegedly beating a 68-year-old man from Sri Lanka while yelling anti-Asian slurs on board the 1 train in Manhattan on Friday.

In a separate attack that took place on Saturday, a 66-year-old Asian man was punched in the face by a homeless man in Manhattan's Chinatown.

Last week, the NYPD revealed that it had recorded a 1,300 per cent increase in anti-Asian hate crimes during the pandemic.

On Sunday, thousands marched in Atlanta, New York and Washington DC, among other cities, following the mass shooting last week at Asian-owned spas in Georgia, which claimed the lives of eight people, including six Asian women.

The shooter, 21-year-old Robert Aaron Long, admitted to the murders but denied that the attacks were racially motivated.

BILLY'S MASONIC TAVERN: an open source improvised sound recording project.

An "open source improvised sound recording project" is a good place to start, but it doesn't really say it all.
Every Wednesday night persons assembled @ 2 Bond in glorious downtown St. Catharines. Everyone who came out was welcome to come up on stage and make some noise. There was always a wide variety of instruments to choose from and people were encouraged to play instruments they'd never played before, chant, tell jokes and make up songs off the 'top of their heads.' These sessions were recorded and digitally archived for posterity and beyond . . .
Persons who've passed thru have described the experience as: conceptual art, a noise band, a jam band, an initiation, group therapy, vibrational medicine, stream of consciousness sound poetry, a bunch of guys just hanging out and 'going off,' fifth-dimensional physical/psychological healing technology, primal scream therapy, a modern day 'Rites of Eleusis,' philanthropic anarchism, pure genius and utter crap.
Words cannot describe the Tavern.
No matter how much I say or how many of the recordings you listen to, you will still only be experiencing a very small part of what BMT was/is in truth. Nevertheless, I do hope that you take the time to look at the photos and listen to the recordings (the links are under music interests). It is a journey well worth taking and I guarantee that you will find the experience 'embiggening.' Enjoy!

A subway stabber who killed two homeless people and slashed two others during a violent 14-hour spree has been caught, and was splattered in blood when he was arrested, police say.

The man, who has not yet been named, was in still in possession of the knife and had blood on his sneakers, cops told the New York Post.

The man was wearing layers of clothes and a winter coat with high-top sneakers, sources told the New York Daily News.

The suspect was reportedly arrested in Upper Manhattan, just blocks from where the bloody rampage began and he is in custody at the 34th Precinct in Washington Heights.

The fatal stabbings took place on opposite ends of the A subway line, which connects the Inwood section of Upper Manhattan with Rockaway, Queens.

NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea announced on Saturday that a 'surge' of 500 additional cops for the department's Transit Bureau would be immediately deployed across the city.

The wounded victims were reportedly helping police identify the assailant earlier on Saturday.

During a news conference on Saturday, police told reporters that the violent stabbing spree started at around 11:20am on Friday.

That's when a 67-year-old man was stabbed by an assailant at the 181st Street A-line subway station.

The victim is expected to survive, according to police.

He told cops that his attacker had shouted 'I am going to kill you', before he was stabbed in the right knee and left buttock, New York Post reported.

The next attack took place before midnight, when authorities found a man stabbed to death in his seat on the A train at the Mott Avenue station in Far Rockaway, Queens.

The victim died of stab wounds to his neck and torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Just two hours later, a 44-year-old was found unconscious after she was stabbed while riding the A train at the 207th Street Station in Upper Manhattan.

The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Just a few minutes later, a 43-year-old man was randomly stabbed at the A subway station on West 181st Street in Manhattan.

The man was rushed to hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

The slashing spree sparked a massive manhunt and an outcry for safer subways.

Officers were seen patrolling subway stations across the city looking for the alleged suspect before the man was arrested. The NYPD plans to deploy an additional 865 officers to patrol the subway system on Monday.

Officials said had said earlier on Saturday they believed the attacker to be possibly a Hispanic male standing at a height of 5ft tall and wearing a face mask.

'Three of these incidents appear to be connected and the Detective Bureau is looking into the possibility that all four could have been committed by one individual,' Transit Chief Kathleen O'Reilly told reporters.

'We will work tirelessly to bring the individual or individuals to justice.'

DailyMail.com has reached out to the New York Police Department for further comment.

Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, there has been an uptick in violent incidents inside the largely desolate subway stations as ridership has plummeted due to fears of getting infected.

Transit workers have been demanding that the 24-hour subway schedule be resumed after several reported being assaulted during the overnight hours when trains are shut down for COVID-19 cleanings.

The union representing Metropolitan Transportation Authority workers who operate the city's public buses and subways are assaulted, harassed, spit upon, and in severe cases nearly killed by assailants in largely empty stations.

In November, the New York Police Department said that it would add around 200 cops on its patrols of subway stations after a series of disturbing incidents.

Rents across Manhattan have collapsed and the vacancies continue to grow to leave essentially little competition for commercial real estate in NYC. We can see by these trends it hasn't been just the large businesses leaving.

NYC Gang Unprovoked Destroys Elderly Woman's Car With Physician Plates

Gang of thugs vandalize BMW with physician plates as a son was reportedly taking his elderly mother to see Christmas lights in Manhattan. Bystanders say the driver did nothing to provoke the attack. The elderly woman was crying and scared for her life.

Witness says the group on bicycles were clinging to the car to ‘catch a ride’ when the driver hit the breaks, causing one rider to crash. That’s apparently what sparked the violent attack.

Es hat lange auf sich warten lassen... New York City ist das Hauptziel

(Jesus) "New York City.

It's been a long Time coming... New York City is the main Target

December 29, 2020 - Words from Jesus thru Sister Clare

(Clare) May the Lord impart courage, wisdom and stamina to the intercessors of the world. This past Sunday, during the Lord’s Supper, I saw a nuclear mushroom cloud in the host. I showed it to the community members who were in the room and they saw it clearly as well. It is not unusual for the Lord to allow us to see something significant in the host, when it is very important. When I came before the Lord in prayer, He began...

(Jesus) “New York City. It has been a long time coming, it has been needed for a long time, yet My Heart is sick unto death over the innocent souls who will be casualties. I want you all to pray for the little ones, that they may be quickly snatched up to Me."

(Clare) Lord, there are many good people in New York City and even Epoch Times.

(Jesus) "The good shall be taken home to Me, others will sleep in the dust of the earth until the final judgment. Pray for all, I wish for none to suffer as they will suffer. Pray that death comes swiftly. There will be betrayals by your own Navy. Evil men with evil designs.”

(Clare) Lord, what about Miami?

(Jesus) "That too will happen, but not in this timeframe. As it is now planned, New York City is the main target. I know what I have said in past times, but arrangements change with circumstances in the framework of time. All that My Father does is fair and just. Clare, this has been a long time coming, a very long time coming. Yet My heart is torn asunder as that moment approaches.

"It is wise that you do not ask for time frames. These are not given, only warnings, because the time ripens with many different events. Yet there are those living among you who are your enemies. They are blinded by doctrines of demons, that is the communist ideology, thinking they are doing mankind a favor by bringing in the reign of atheism. Pray for these to deflect and warn the government. Many things could be quelled by those who turn traitor against the party. Pray for these. Clare, it was not My Heart to bring you such bad news, but you saw the cloud, and that was My sign to you that this is imminent."

(Clare) What about Washington DC?

(Jesus) "Not yet, right now I want you to pray for two things, the Red Chinese living here in this country to wake up and see that communism does not work in actuality. In theory however, with perfect men, no favored groups or persons, it can work, but men are corrupt, and nothing will work without Me, until I return.

"My people in China, I beg of you, pray for your country and those who have been planted in this land of freedom. Pray for their conversion, so they will not rise up from within and destroy those very ones who have been good to them in this country. Pray for them to encounter Me; that will change everything."

I loved watching these workers restoring the monument of General William Jenkins Worth where his remains are also buried where during the pre-COVID period tourists would swarn to see and photograph the famous Flatiron Building. This mausoleum is located on a small traffic island bordered by 25th Street, Broadway, and 5th Avenue in New York City. I was speaking to a director of the Parks Department who was describing some of the restoration techniques used but the audio was just terrible. After watching scenes all over the country with fire has been used to destroy statues, I was quite moved by watching these workers using the edifying fire to restore and protect this monument.

If you would like to learn more about the monuments in Manhattan, NYC you can see photos and info here: https://www.nycgovparks.org/art-and-antiquities/permanent-art-and-monuments/results?search_text=&borough=M&Submit=Search&googleClientId=347742380.1610174512

Thanks to the director of the Parks Department for speaking to me and the great workers who take care of our monuments. I was a bit jealous of the worker using the fire while adding the patina. The joy of watching him work was stronger than the envy.

#Manhattan #ICE #Facility #Protesters #NYPD #Arrest #Update

Dramatic footage has emerged of the moment a female motorist plowed her car into a group of New York City protesters gathered in support of people on hunger strike in an ICE detention center Friday afternoon.

Six people were injured when the driver of a dark BMW accelerated into a group of around 50 protesters at East 39th Street and Third Avenue in the heart of Manhattan just after 4 p.m. Friday.

The extent of the injuries is not clear but the NYPD said they appear to be non-life-threatening.

Police said the driver stayed on the scene after the collision and was taken to a local precinct for questioning. As of 7 p.m. Friday, the NYPD said no arrests or charges had been made over the incident.

The incident unfolded at 4:08 p.m. on East 39th and 3rd Avenue in the heart of Manhattan where a group of protesters were holding a demonstration in support of those on hunger strike at an ICE facility in Bergen County, New Jersey.

Multiple people being held in the government facility have gone without food for four weeks now to draw attention to their poor treatment in the facility.

Between 40 and 50 protesters were demonstrating in the area, according to WABC-TV

Smartphone footage circulated on social media shows dozens of protesters holding banners in the road at the intersection of East 39th Street and Third Avenue.

Around four pedestrians are seen gathered around a dark BMW that appears to be driving toward the group.

Two demonstrators can be seen banging on the side of the car.

The vehicle accelerates rapidly plowing right into one demonstrator stood in front of it, who flies over the bonnet onto the road.

The car speeds right across the intersection ramming into several bicycles and other protesters on the way.

Screams and the cars tires screeching ring out in the air, as protesters run to help people injured.

An NYPD officer is seen at the end of the footage.

Vehicles were being cordoned off from the area by NYPD officers due to the protest. according to NBC New York.

Officers were ensuring no cars turned onto East 39th Street. The car involved in the incident was already parked in the closed-off area when the driver got in the vehicle, the outlet reported.

Bodega Owners Press City To Pass Bill To Reimburse For Panic Buttons; NYPD Says Bodega Crimes Up 25% Since Start Of Pandemic

#NYC #NewYork #Cuomo #Deblasio #Homeless #Pandemic #Epidemic

The numbers of homelessness on the streets of New York City has risen to record levels as a result of the coronavirus pandemic with more than 20,000 single adults spending each night in shelters.

Homelessness in the city has reached levels not seen since the Great Depression with more than 57,000 homeless people as of October. An all-time record of 20,210 single adults, the highest than at any other time in the history, slept in shelters; with 15,369 single men and a near record of 4,841 single women.

Research shows that the primary cause of homelessness, particularly among families, is lack of affordable housing. But the pandemic has seen those numbers rise - despite a moratorium on rental evictions - as tens of thousands lost their jobs amid lockdowns and restrictions on businesses.

Reports of domestic abuse have also soared which may also lead to more people seeking refuge in shelters.

The New York City Department of Social Services added that many prisoners were released early due to the pandemic, and placed into emergency housing.

And with the eviction moratorium ending in January, and the enhanced unemployment benefits many have relied on since March ending on December 26, it's likely the numbers of homeless will continue to soar.

They stay wherever they can find space. In the abandoned doorways of shops that have closed down, on subway platforms or even slumped on uncomfortable staircases.

On Friday night, dozens of homeless were spotted in and around the city's Penn Station. In any normal year, the station would be thronging with commuters going to and from their city jobs or with partygoers coming into the city for a night on the town.

The high numbers do not include those sleeping on the streets or in private shelters.

The coronavirus has affected New York's homeless population more than other demographics with the Campaign 4 NY/NY Housing estimating the mortality rate to be 78% higher than the citywide average between May and August of this year.

'If there is one thing the pandemic has taught us, it is that housing is health care. Our homeless neighbors need the safety and stability of a home,' said Giselle Routhier, policy director of Coalition for the Homeless to CBS News.

'Drivers of homelessness like these are preventable — and we remain committed to doing everything we can to prevent homelessness where possible and to connect the New Yorkers who come to us with the permanent housing that will help them find stability for the long-term,' a DSS spokesperson said. The department helps to rehouse at-risk families and provides assistance for those facing evictions.

The CDC says the homeless population are 'particularly vulnerable' as a group with clear links between the rise of COVID-19 and the increase in the numbers of emergency shelters being used.
