A young soprano becomes the obsession of a disfigured and murderous musical genius who lives beneath the Paris Opéra House.  We are lucky where we live.  Only a few miles away is one of the very few live performance theaters that put on Broadway quality shows.  My wife first got me to go see a play well over 30 years ago and I was hooked.   We have been to see The Phantom Of The Opera 2004 from a Broadway road group many years ago.   When The Phantom Of The Opera 2004 came out we went right away and I was not disappointed.   The acting and music is absolutely great.   This is one of my favorite musical videos and I like to play it at least once a year on my computer.   Emmy Rossum is a beauty both in looks and her singing voice.   I was really surprised  Gerard Butler and Patrick Wilson's singing.   They did a fantastic job as well.

If you ever get a chance to go see a "Professional" performance live play of the Phantom Of The Opera do so.  It is well worth what ever the price is and you will love it.

Thank you for watching.   I would appreciate ((your up vote)) on the movie that you watch and for your subscribing to my channel.  If you have any suggestions for a movie or show, please leave it in our comment section.  If you can leave a comment on a movie that you would like for me to upload.   I will see if I have it or if I can get it.  There are NO ads that waste your time in watching our videos.

Stars:   Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, Patrick Wilson   and many other fine actors.

I have over 500 movies covering almost everything.   War movies, action movies, adventure movies, western movies, drama, Sci-Fi, Sports, comedy and Christmas movies.  Plus a number of series.  Such as the first 25 James Bond movies and a number of mini-series.  I will pick one or two to upload each week.  More if I can.

A bit of movie trivia.
01:  The theatre fire was an actual fire. Joel Schumacher wanted realism, so they destroyed the theatre for the scene.

02:  It took four hours for Gerard Butler to be fitted with full makeup and prosthetics.

03:  The music is played by the 105-piece London Symphony Orchestra.

Movies coming:   Battle of Britain 1969, V For Vendetta 2005, Kelly's Heroes 1970, Love At First Bite 1979, Zorro The Gay Blade 1981 and many more

Thank you for watching.   I would appreciate your up vote on the movie that you watch and any comments that you may have.  If you can leave a comment on a movie that you would like for me to upload.   I will see if I have it or if I can get it.  There are NO ads that waste your time in watching our videos.   If you would please subscribe to my channel and support it by sharing our videos with your friends.

19th-Century German Opera—Nationalism and Experimentation:
In this lecture we examine early 19th-century German opera, which developed rather late compared to Italian and French opera. Genuine German opera evolved from native German roots, not by imitating and adapting Italian operatic plots and singing style. The lecture discusses the rise of German literature and musical theater in the late 18th century in the works of Goethe and Mozart. It examines 19th-century German opera as an experimental tradition, using as an example Carl Maria von Weber's Der Freischütz.

19th-Century Italian Opera—Giuseppe Verdi:
This lecture continues the examination of 19th-century Italian opera with the life and music of Giuseppe Verdi. Verdi was not an innovator or reformer; his operatic style evolved as he sought ever-greater refinement of dramatic line, singing technique, and literary truth. He elevated the role of the orchestra and favored characterization and dramatic truth over the vocal prettiness of the bel canto style. The final scene from Verdi's opera Aida is heard and discussed.

19th-Century Italian Opera—Bel Canto Opera:
This lecture begins a four-lecture examination of 19th-century opera. In this lecture, early 19th-century Italian opera is examined as a popular art, the product of a highly profitable media industry. The style of this opera is called bel canto; its essential composers were Gaetano Donizetti, Vincenzo Bellini, and Gioacchino Rossini. Rossini's opera Il Barbieri de Siviglia (The Barber of Seville), is used as an example of the bel canto style.

Classical-era Opera, Part 2—Mozart and the Operatic Ensemble:
We discuss the operas of Mozart with special attention to Don Giovanni. We then discuss the nature and content of an opera buffa finale. As an example of Mozart's unparalleled ability to sustain a musical-dramatic line, this lecture features a hearing and discussion of Act I, Scene 1, of Don Giovanni. We examine the Act II finale of Don Giovanni, when the tragic music that initiated the overture returns with the entrance of the statue and the Don's subsequent (and fiery) demise.

Classical-era Opera—The Rise of Opera Buffa:
Lecture 28 explores the development of Classical opera buffa: the ideal operatic genre for the Classical era's more realistic plots, more "natural" music, and more common characters, over the Baroque era's formulaic nature in opera seria and the domination of these operas by singers and virtuosic singing. We will consider Jean-Jacques Rousseau's objections to Baroque opera seria and his unqualified support of the new opera buffa as the ideal opera for the Enlightenment. Finally, we will sample Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's opera La Serva Padrona, a work embraced by Rousseau as a model for operas of the future.

Baroque Opera, Part 1:
We discuss the evolution of opera from the late Renaissance through the early Baroque. Believing that ancient Greek drama was entirely sung, members of the Florentine Camerata sought to create their own music dramas, and, in doing so, they invented opera around the year 1600. These lectures discuss two early operas—Jacopo Peri's Euridice and Claudio Monteverdi's Orfeo—and describe and demonstrate the musical content of these early operas.

This lovely aria from Puccini´s opera Manon Lescaut was one I previously thought I would never be able to sing full voice in key, but then it happened. Here is one of a very few successful attempts at performing it. An interesting back story surrounding the time of this recording was that I was visited by three of my favorite tenors in separate lucid dreams: first Mario Del Monaco, then Franco Corelli and finally Jussi Björling. Each of them was in the prime of their youth!

To provide contrast with my previous uploads, I am sharing this aria from my baritone repertoire. It comes from Giuseppe Verdi´s opera Rigoletto. The title role is one that I performed in two or three productions for the same company.

7 months, 1 week ago

Continuing with the character of Canio from the opera I Pagliacci, this aria was actually recorded earlier than the previous one I posted. If one listens carefully, it becomes clear that there is a darker sound to my voice in this piece. That is because I had been studying as a baritone for over 15 years prior.

A 2019 BBC Arts Documentary hosted by Antonio Pappano.

Nothing pulls harder at the heartstrings than an opera aria – that key moment when the action stops and the character draws us right in to the heart of the drama, revealing his or her innermost feelings and thoughts. These are chances for the singers to really show off, to wow an audience with some of the most famous music in opera. Antonio Pappano shares his personal selection of some of opera’s greatest arias. Pappano’s choices stretch across the full 400-year operatic canvas and feature some of the most ravishing and famous arias in the repertoire - from show-stopping Baroque to heart-stopping Mozart, the full-blooded Romantics to blood-curdling Verismo via Bel Canto pyrotechnics and new 20th-century techniques. Along the way he identifies the various functions that arias perform in opera – from entrance arias, soliloquies and arias born of crisis to breathless declarations of undying love. Combining hands-on workshops featuring today’s international stars - such as Joyce DiDonato, Lucy Crowe, Bryan Hymel and Lawrence Brownlee - along with glorious archive of operatic legends including Placido Domingo, Gundula Janowitz and Piero Cappuccilli, Pappano shines a fresh new light on the precise characteristics – vocal, musical, psychological and dramatic – that transform these great theatrical moments into timeless masterpieces.

A 2019 BBC Arts Documentary narrated by Susan Froemke.

Documentary that surveys a remarkable period in the Metropolitan Opera's rich history and a time of great change for New York. Featuring rarely seen archival footage, stills, recent interviews and a soundtrack of extraordinary Met performances, the documentary chronicles the creation of the Met's storeyed home in 1966, which replaced the original 1883 house on Broadway, against a backdrop of the artists, architects and politicians who shaped the cultural life of New York City in the 1950s and 1960s. Among the notable figures in the documentary are famed soprano Leontyne Price, who opened the new Met in 1966 with Samuel Barber's Antony and Cleopatra, Rudolf Bing, the Met's imperious general manager who engineered the move from the old house to the new one, Robert Moses, the unstoppable city planner who bulldozed an entire neighborhood to make room for the Lincoln Center, and Wallace Harrison, whose quest for architectural glory was never fully realised.

A novelty is Rossini's song cycle La Regata Veneziana sung by Tebaldi. The work has always been a favorite of the soprano and has been recorded by her with piano accompaniment. This is the first time that the cycle will be available by Tebaldi with orchestral accompaniment.

Mary, full of grace,
Hail, hail
The Lord is with Thee
Blessed art Thou amongst women,
And blessed
And blessed is the fruit of Thy womb
of Thy womb, Jesus.
Hail Mary.

Christopher Macchio Performs Hallelujah at the 2020 RNC on August 27, 2020.

Lyrics:
----------
Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Christopher Macchio Performs Nessun Dorma at the 2020 RNC on August 27, 2020.

Nessun Dorma translates to "No Sleep".

Italian Text:
-----------------
Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma!
Tu pure, o, Principessa,
nella tua fredda stanza,
guardi le stelle
che tremano d'amore
e di speranza.
Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me,
il nome mio nessun saprà!
No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò
quando la luce splenderà!
Ed il mio bacio scioglierà il silenzio
che ti fa mia!
(Il nome suo nessun saprà!...
e noi dovrem, ahime, morir!)
Dilegua, o notte!
Tramontate, stelle!
Tramontate, stelle!
All'alba vincerò!
vincerò, vincerò!

English Translation
----------------------------
Nobody shall sleep!...
Nobody shall sleep!
Even you, oh Princess,
in your cold room,
watch the stars,
that tremble with love and with hope.
But my secret is hidden within me,
my name no one shall know...
No!...No!...
On your mouth, I will tell it when the light shines.
And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine!...
(No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.)
Vanish, o night!
Set, stars! Set, stars!
At dawn, I will win! I will win! I will win!

Opera sung by customers and attendants at Waitrose supermarket, London

Placido Domingo's voice is so supple, plangent and cavernous at the tender age of 19 that it foreshadows his potential and eventual greatness. I hope you will enjoy his artistry as much as I do, he is one of the most unique and consequential artists of all the performing arts, not just opera, of all time.

Back up / mirror of a youtube upload, no copyright is claimed or owned, and, as this channel is not monetized nor will it ever be, I have no interest in running a video channel business. I share this upload because I am a big fan of Placido Domingo and very much enjoy sharing his beautiful voice, artistry and humanity with the world. When I find an example of him singing from his very early years, which such recordings are quite rare and getting more so, I endeavor to preserve a copy for historical, educational and archival purposes. If you wish to own a copy of this recording, I strongly urge you to visit StageDoorRecords.com. And I might add, you should go as soon as possible, because it has been my experience over the decades that if you don't snap up the retail sales copies fast, the vendor doesn't re-stock the original inventory and either hangs on to the copyright license without pressing more copies, or they allow it to expire.
======

An absolutely splendid recital with a sumptuous bill of fare with more than a few encores for a very pleased and appreciative audience. Ever the generous professional who clearly loves what he does, even when his instrument hits a brief rough patch, he soldiers on, gets past it and the public not only hangs in there with him, their standing ovation and thunderous applause demonstrate their admiration for his daring, resilience and endearing generosity. Domingo's voice is in its tenor ascendance, silky, umbrous, nutrient, plangent, allotrope, radiant, clarion and supple. Julius Rudel knew he was on to something special when Placido auditioned for him and time has proven him right. For the die-hard Carusians, Pavi Peeps and Krausistas, they will never concede and that's fine, we don't need them to. As 2008 BBC Music simply put to print what had already been true for many years, Placido Domingo is the Greatest Opera Artist of All Time. Take your time and enjoy his beautiful artistry.
=.=.=

A documentary from ca. 1980s about the greatest tenor to ever live. The camera follows the great opera artist as he lives and works over the course of a year. Discover more about the extraordinary Spaniard who was nearly born on the very stage of the Teatro de la Zarzuela where his parents performed nearly his entire life. A natural diplomat, eager to please, indefatigable, unnaturally tall for a tenor, romantically handsome (most especially for tenors), generous to a fault and a personally compassionate humanitarian. When BBC Music waited until 2008, a year after Pavarotti passed (RIP), to conduct a survey of classic music critics and other professionals in the field asking for their top twenty tenors lists, all the respondents listed the same name as number one: Plácido Domingo. Considering all the records he holds, all the young artists he helped launch their careers in opera, the now over 4000 stage performances mostly as a tenor, but now as a baritone, and millions and billions of people he has brought joy to with his supple, umbrous, plangent, allotrope, clarion, towering, gleamingly beautiful voice, I'd say they got it right.

As many others have noted, there is a visible line of demarcation in the history of opera: BP/AP - Before Plácido and After Plácido. Consider yourself lucky to be alive at the same time as a living legend, for they are exceedingly rare.

Recomiendo Presto Classical (no afiliado).

One of the most beautiful, moving and poignant arias ever composed. Rendered even more beautiful in the ethereal and shimmeringly radiant voices of the greatest of all time tenor Plácido Domingo, and the divine mezzo-soprano Tatiana Troyanos. It is our good fortune that this performance was committed to a durable document so that many generations may be graced with its timeless magnificence. I'm confident Hector Berlioz, the composer, would heartily approve. If more humans were raised on opera like this, on a steady diet of classical music at a minimum, we'd have much less of the insanity that seems popular in our culture of late.

FYI: 1983 Les Troyens, French grand opera, 5 Acts (though this production is 4 Acts), live stage performance, NYC, James Levine conductor. Provided for educational and historical purposes only, no copyright infringement intended but I'm no lawyer. This account is not monetized nor will it ever be. I simply wish to share a portion of the DVD I own of this opera for the edification of music and art lovers around the world. I know from personal and professional experience that sharing the entire sample of the duet will be the most effective at inspiring viewers to buy the DVD/MP4. I recommend Presto Classical (unaffiliated).
