With or without the cooperation of local governments, Frank Wisner, an undercover State Department official assigned to the Foreign Service, rounded up students abroad to enter the cold war underground of covert operations on behalf of his Office of Policy Coordination.
Philip Graham, a graduate of the Army Intelligence School in Harrisburg, PA, then publisher of the Washington Post., was taken under Wisner's wing to direct the program code-named Operation MOCKINGBIRD.
"By the early 1950s," writes former Village Voice reporter Deborah Davis in Katharine the Great, "Wisner 'owned' respected members of the New York Times, Newsweek, CBS and other communications vehicles, plus stringers, four to six hundred in all, according to a former CIA analyst."
The network was overseen by Allen Dulles, a templar for German and American corporations who wanted their points of view represented in the public print. Early MOCKINGBIRD influenced 25 newspapers and wire agencies consenting to act as organs of CIA propaganda."

Operation Mockingbird
Operation Mockingbird was a large scale CIA project started in 1950s that recruited journalists to write fake stories promoting government ideas while dispelling communist ones.
The recruited journalists were put on payroll by the CIA and instructed to write fake stories that promoted the views of the intelligence agency. Student cultural organizations and magazines were allegedly funded as fronts for this operation.
NASA Going Nowhere Since 1958. NASA (Never A Straight Answer) fraud with a daily budget of $56 million . This is a simple film that explores NASA and its history with the Presidents of the United States.
A video released earlier in March where the person/persons behind the message are claiming to be “Anonymous” – as in the loosely formed hacktivist collective – is gaining some notable attention, as the message contained in the video claims that they’re intent on attacking the establishment's spreading the “false information” regarding the Russia/Ukraine conflict. The video first makes reference to Operation Mockingbird, an old CIA-led program literally meant to recruit journalists to craft fake news stories and promote the preferred government narrative dating back to the 1950s. Mirror of interview with Udo Ulfkotte seemingly originally broadcast on the Russia Today network (c late 2016) expressing his perspective on how the manipulation of the media is orchestrated by intelligence organisations such as the CIA. The ideas expressed by Udo seem consistent with the manipulations of Operation Mockingbird (during the Cold War) which seemingly was described in the publications of the Church Committee. In 2018 in Europe documents made their way online that tended to indicate a British government linked organisation called the Institute for Statecraft was running a program called the Integrity Initiative that was similarly looking to influence the media across Europe. Subsequent to the revelations, the Integrity Initiative appears to have become inactive despite claims made at the time that it was not conducting illegitimate activities.

Operation Mockingbird was [is] a CIA project that recruited journalists since the 1950s to write fake stories promoting government ideas while dispelling other stories. The operation infiltrated news outlets, the greater media and even Hollywood. The aim was to ‘control’ the population toward certain life-choices that met the agenda of the Government of the day.
The CIA’s role in the current flood of censorship we are experiencing during COVID may be more significant than most people imagine. In the Off-Guardian article, “Opening the CIA’s Can of Worms,” Edward Curtin highlights the close ties between the CIA and corporate mainstream media.
In the past year, licensed medical doctors and award-winning scientists have undergone the modern version of being tarred and feathered online, followed by expulsion from their web-based communities for the crime of asking commonsense questions and speaking truth to power. Again the question must be asked: Is Operation Mockingbird still very much part of our world today ?

Operation Mockingbird is a large-scale program of the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) that began in the early 1950s to manipulate news media for propaganda purposes.
It funded student and cultural organizations and magazines as front organizations, one of which is the CNN.
According to the Congress report published in 1976: "The CIA currently maintains a network of several hundred foreign individuals around the world who provide intelligence for the CIA and at times attempt to influence opinion through the use of covert propaganda.
These individuals provide the CIA with direct access to a large number of newspapers and periodicals, scores of press services and news agencies, radio and television stations, commercial book publishers, and other foreign media outlets."
In 1983, 90% of American media was owned by 50 companies. Now, 5 companies own and control 90% of American media. COMCAST, NEWS-CORP, DISNEY, ViacomCBS, and TIME WARNER own over 90% of ALL TV stations, radio stations, movie studios, magazines and newspapers that Americans rely on for news and entertainment. This means that ONLY 5 CEOs regulate the news diet of the masses.
So what is corporate media? It's a cartel of big media corporations employing millionaires who are paid by billionaires to push the narratives of the banking class.
In 1996, Bill Clinton signed the Telecommunications Act, which allowed for media cross-ownership and led to a consolidation orgy of the radio industry because it lifted a 40-station ownership cap. Later under George W. Bush in 2004, an appeals court decision struck down even more media ownership rules.

In 2014, German journalist and newspaper editor Ulfkotte published the book 'Gekaufte Journalisten' (Bought Journalists: How Politicians, Intelligence Agencies and High Finance Control Germany’s Mass Media), in which he stated that the CIA and other secret services pay money to journalists to report stories in a certain light.
Ulfkotte was found dead on 13 January 2017. He died from a "heart failure" at the age of 56.
