Enquanto pesquisava material sobre a ditadura da junta militar na Grécia de 1967 a 1974, liderada por Georgios Papadopoulos (principalmente discursos dele em grego), achei esta linda marcha por acaso. Depois, descobri que ela tinha sido uma canção nacional no mesmo período, chamada "Ο Ύμνος της 21ης Απριλίου" (O Ýmnos tis 21is Aprilíou), "Hino do 21 de Abril", ou seja, a data do golpe militar, como o 31 de Março no Brasil.

A letra é de Giórgos Oikonomídis, a melodia é de Giórgos Katsarós, foi composta no próprio ano de 1967 e quem está cantando é o grego Fotis Dimas. De fato, parece uma daquelas músicas ufanistas dos tempos de nossa ditadura, mas o conteúdo não fica devendo nada aos poemas comunistas soviéticos (Sol, corações, sorrisos, jovens, operários). A união "primeiramente com o soldado" mostra o caráter absolutamente militar do regime, que era considerado de extrema-direita, uma espécie de movimento protofascista e com membros simpatizantes de Hitler. Há até uma metáfora interessante: diz-se que "a estação do dia 21" se funde com "o próprio 21 de Abril", ou seja, a primavera (na Europa) emociona junto com a suposta alegria pelo movimento golpista. De resto, a instrumentação e a batida são bem gregas mesmo, como podemos perceber.

A Junta Militar Grega de 1967-1974 também é conhecida como simplesmente "Junta", Regime dos Coronéis, A Ditadura ou Os Sete Anos, e marcou profundamente a história e a mentalidade da Grécia. De caráter cristão conservador e anticomunista, decorreu de uma crise política devida à falha em formar um governo parlamentar estável, ainda nos quadros da antiga monarquia. De 1970 a 1974, vigorou justamente essa bandeira com azul mais escuro, que vocês veem: a atual é de tom mais claro. O monarca seguiu como chefe simbólico até 1973, quando o coronel Papadopoulos proclamou a república e exerceu a presidência ao longo desse ano. Ele também foi regente monárquico em 1972 e 1973 e primeiro-ministro de 1967 a 1973. Julgado, condenado à morte e passado à perpétua residencial, Papadopoulos morreu em 1999 e, pelo menos no YouTube, ainda parece dividir as opiniões dos gregos.

Esta foi minha primeira experiência de tradução direta do grego moderno. Baseei-me também na tradução em inglês que a Wikipédia oferecia, mas olhei palavra por palavra no Wiktionary, já que conheço a estrutura básica do grego. Eu mesmo montei o vídeo, usando uma transliteração que também é mostrada na Wikipédia, baseada ao mesmo tempo na ortografia e pronúncia originais. Nem sempre a cada som corresponde uma letra, pois também no alfabeto grego, as combinações "oi" e "ei" soam como um "i" simples, o "ai" soa como um "é" e o "ou" soa como um "u" simples. Além disso, o som real de "gk" é "nk", e o de "nt" é "nd". Note ainda que o grego faz muitas elisões ou reduções de vogais, assim como na poesia de língua portuguesa.
