One of my fave original songs from the kings of the Mosrite guitars, and a haunting little sonic universe to take a dip in. The '66 Ventures added fuzz tone and space age sound effects to modernize their sound, and this little gem is a great example of what I consider to be their classic period. Pretty good tune for Halloween, too.

The synth setting for this is "Suo Na," an Asian double reed instrument. Here are the lyrics:

What are you doing the rest of your life?
North and south and east and west of your life?
I have only one request of your life:
That you spend it all with me!

All the seasons and the times of your days,
All the nickels and the dimes of your days,
Let the reasons and the rhymes of your days
All begin and end with me.

I want to see your face in evπry kind of light,
In fields of dawn and forests of the night.
And when you stand before the candles on a cake,
Oh, let me be the one to hear the silent wish you make!

Those tomorrows waiting deep in your eyes,
In the world of love you keep in your eyes,
Iπll awaken whatπs asleep in your eyes
It may take a kiss or two!

Through all of my life,
Summer, winter, spring and fall of my life,
All I ever will recall of my life
Is all of my life with you!

{From now on, I plan on distinguishing between solo type performances like this one, and full band productions by referring to the solo stuff as "apertifs".]

Thanks for hanging out a bit. Buono fortuno, everyone.

The Remix: Regular visitors to my channel will be familiar with the synth version I uploaded a while back; I decided to add a guitar to make the video a bit more interesting to watch. The guitar tone was achieved with a two amp set up; a Boss Katana Artist with a Roland Micro Cube, but unfortunately I didn't mic it. The audio from the flip camera was remixed in Audacity first, and then mixed with the synth track.

Originally, I thought I would delete the synth version, and just upload this one, but BLUES IN THE NIGHT is such a classic Harold Arlen tune, you can definitely stand to hear it twice.

This original tune was originally part of a prospective album of songs called "foreign words and ph(r)ases," of which only four songs were completed (the other three are up on my soundcloud page; see link below, and one of them, "fait accompli" can be found in video form here). The four track recording in from 1987; here I've synced up live video playing guitar, bass, and some percussion.

I've always felt a certain kinship with the Sydney Pithias character that Jerry played in the film DELICATE DELINQUENT, which is similar to the childlike misfits that Lewis specialized in many of his self-directed films like THE BELLBOY, THE ERRAND BOY, and THE PATSY. In a way, I feel like a doppelganger of that character; except in my case, I never got the girl like Jerry usually did.

I especially find it fascinating that Jerry's solo career (and rise as an auteur), apart from Dean Martin, began just as rock and roll was taking off, and that his decline as a "Total Filmmaker" began just as Beatlemania gripped America (it was also at this time that Jerry discarded his "child-man" character which was a comedy goldmine for nearly two decades, since he was now too old to pull it off).

In 1966, Jerry became more closely identified with the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon, which went national for the first time that year, and his self-directed films became more and more embarrassing and failed miserably at the box office. After the failure of THE DAY THE CLOWN CRIED in 1972, Jerry's Percodan addiction, which started in 1965 after an injurious pratfall for a TV special, enveloped him in a big way, and he had to quit the film biz for six years.

This is one of Herbie's old Blue Note numbers that doesn't get covered much. I decided to give it a go since I'm learning how to use the expression wheel on the synth, and the melody really lends itself to a bluesy interpretation. Plus I like the title since many Americans today are asking this question regarding wearing face masks in light of the COVID-19 scam-demic. Oh well, this lockdown is working out great for me so far; I don't have to work a stupid job and can keep pumping out music videos.

Rush was never a band I was particularly fond of when I was a young punk rocker type, but now that I'm older, I've let go of a lot of my silly prejudices and decided to give them a listen. Having now spent many hours listening to their discography recently, I had to admit that Rush's sense of musicality and groove is unique and quite intriguing, as well as challenging to play properly.

So here is my first attempt to tackle one of their numbers. ANTHEM was first recorded for Rush's second LP FLY BY NIGHT, which was also the debut album for drummer Neil Peart, who had a major influence on the band's direction. I dedicate this video to my friend and bassist Rich Paddock, who got me to learn "Freewill" when I was in a band with him, and who cites Geddy Lee as a major influence.

The Kinks' masterpiece (or one of them) album, THE VILLAGE GREEN PRESERVATION SOCIETY, has been one of my favorites for nearly forth years, so it was a labor of love to cover this tune and to do the video. I hope it brings those of you out there having a tough time dealing with this so-called "pandemic" a little bit of wisdom in how to adapt.

Personally, I've been enjoying myself immensely since I don't have to work my stupid job as much, I have much more time to work out more labor intensive projects like this one. I'm going to attempt to really keep the videos flowing now, so if you hesitated subscribing, now's the time.

An after hours kind of tune; I was feelin' the blues from not getting any feminine attention lately (like in the last six years or so -- ha). Plus this is kind of a shout out to my older bro Larry who had a birthday recently; he really digs the blues.

Thanks to Bugs Bunny and his buzzard nemesis for introducing this tune to me when I was a boy.

This is a new ongoing video feature I am calling Musical Mischief; the idea is to blindly choose a tune from one of my many fat fake books, and to see what I can come up with utilizing as many musical toys I have laying around here, but primarily IReal Pro.

I multi-tracked several iReal Pro instruments for this arrangement; namely, jazz guitar, strings, nylon string guitar, and a piano trio, all within a Latin cha-cha rhythm context. This app continues to amaze me the more I play with it; quite a bit of potential which I hope to explore within the context of my ongoing Musical Mischief project.

This is a soundtrack tune that I've always wanted to cover, but did not have the tech knowledge to create a suitable backing track for. iReal Pro to the rescue once again. I love soaring melodies like this which really adapt well to slide guitar arranging.

Third Millennium Theme 2019 (G.H.)

I originally recorded a four track version of this tune called "Grunge Theme for the New Millennium" for my Musical Mischief giveaway cassette in 1998. This 2019 version is a revamped arrangement with iReal Pro backing track (featuring Moog bass and chorus guitar), rhythm guitar, slide guitar, and another lead guitar, plus two percussion tracks.

I was going for a majestic, fist-hoisting type of power chord anthem, so you be the judge if it works or not. Volume helps.😉

I just discovered the iReal Pro app, and this is the first tune that I decided to cover, using the arrangement I composed as a backing track. I've had this arrangement sitting around in an old music notebook forever, I guess awaiting the day when technology would make it possible for me to finally put out a version that I thought was close enough to how it sounded in my head, and present to the public.

April 22, 2019: I've been messing around with this backing tracks for years, and decided I may as well try and put all those hours into something definitive. I have been puzzling over how to get live sound digitally recorded so as to utilize feedback, and to have a better quality sound to bounce off of. Tonight, I finally figured out a way to do it, so I decided to cover this Ramones tune just to goof around and have fun making noise.

Here's a funny thing: when I uploaded this video to my facebook page, it was partially muted right before the first chorus because one of their copyright police 'bots 'thought' that I had uploaded the original video. I guess I got too close to the original; probably should've altered the speed or something. Oh well, bitchute comes to the rescue once again.

This standard, originally performed by the Ellington Orchestra, is one I've struggled with for years due to the up tempo. I have been regularly practicing it the last couple of weeks, and my ideas were sounding more coherent than usual, so I thought I'd try and make a quick video to capture this rare occurrence on April 3, 2019.

I added a Freddie Green style rhythm guitar to the backing track, and recorded two lead guitar tracks, one of which only comes in intermittently during the head and bridge sections, and in a few other spots, just to amp up the swing.

One of the few ballad type numbers I've composed, this is about dreams deferred due to a lack of imagination and falling prey to a victimhood mentality. "fait accompli" was part of a planned recording project entitled "Foreign Words and Ph(r)ases" of which I completed four tunes. Another one of the other three, DOPPELGANGER, can be found here as well, and the remaining two, ENANTIODROMIA and THANATOS. are in four track mp3 format on my soundcloud page.

This is a four track song I recorded in 1997 which I supplemented with additional voices to fatten it up.

Incidentally, I have covered bass and guitar on another Earle Hagen TV tune, "The I Spy Theme", up on my facebook page: https://tinyurl.com/y4jc6w9v
Maybe I should do "I Dream of Jeanie" next and make it a trilogy.

This is an original work I wrote in 1988 for a wiccan (obviously named "Mari") I was corresponding with; we discovered each other in the Fangoria classified section.

Back than, the cutting edge technology for at home recording was four track cassette. Some of my friends on facebook wanted to hear one of my original tunes, so I thought it might be fun to update it with digital technology.

This 2019 version is arranged with three synth voices, including synth bass, three guitars, and two drum tracks. I was trying to evoke something "witchy" for my pen pal, and she was quite pleased with it.

Been on kind of a swing guitar kick lately; just makes me feel less weird in a world I don't seem to fit into too well ('does not play well with others' obviously). First I laid down a rhythm guitar in the style of Freddie Green of Count Basie fame on March 5, 2019, then added two lead tracks the following evening.

Note: I recorded two guitar tracks and edited the parts I didn't like out to make the audio master, so occasionally you'll see me playing licks you can't hear, and then snapping back into place for the next bit.

I've been playing this Shadows' tune for about six or seven years, and finally decided to put my own version out there. Piano Marvel had a contest that involves learning Halloween flavored pieces of music to win some headphones. This is a beginner's piece I learned, and I decided to jazz it up a bit to make it "scarier" with other instruments I am more familiar with (except for synth, of course). I lost.
