#postpunk

Here's a post punk style jam that started out with a few bass riffs and a drum track I programmed in Superior Drummer. With the bass and drums in place I improvised a few tracks on my stratocaster plus and home made partsocaster. All guitar effects are from bias fx 2 except for the partsocaster track at the end which is guitar rig 6.

The overall mood of this improvisation reminds me of the different moods you get at different locations within an urban environment. Most are pretty gloomy moods to me because I prefer nature more than concrete jungles.

Here is a post punk style improvisation that started out with a bass riff and a custom drum beat in Superior Drummer. Once I had the bass and drum tracks figured out I improvised a few G&L ASAT tracks over it. The first track has bias fx 2 with a dotted eighth delay and some overdrive. The second track is a huge mess of effects in guitar rig 6.

Overall the gritty kind of mood of the song reminds me of how civilizations eventually grow old and decay then finally fall apart.

Thanks for listening :-)

Filmed at Newbury Sound-Boston by Ann Costello. 1990. Featuring Eugene Difrancisco & John Zewizz from beginning to end completing the recording of the Song THE LIGHT POURS OUT OF ME. Engineered by Jeff Dovner. This footage is a gem to see just how a Song starts from a drum beat to a complete Song. It is a cover-tune of the Band-MAGAZINE from the UK. Led by Howard Devoto. A Favorite of both Eugene and Zewizz. They were quoted as saying it was their favorite MAGAZINE Song and would be a perfect fit for SLEEPCHAMBER. Which it is. They perform it Live better than most. Eugene Difrancisco is known as the 'Brian Jones' of SLEEPCHAMBER. He has no problem playing any instrument almost instantly. He is also quite close to Zewizz. Featured largely on the SLEEP OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR PIECE Release. Which this track is from. Also see: OFFICIAL VIDEO.

Here's a jam that started out on my Musicman Stingray 5 bass. I improvised the riffs to a basic metronome track then constructed drum loops around the bass via Superior Drummer and the Pop EZX Jessie drum kit.

Once the bass and drums were in place I added a rhythm track on my PRS Hollowbody II that filled in the midtones with some delay and reverb. For lead I brought in my Musicman Petrucci with a slapback delay and reverb and a subtle ambient phaser.

Interesting thing about this song, I was riding the train to downtown Chicago and filming a hyperlapse video out the window for the background of the video when the train ended up stopping abruptly. As it turns out someone jumped into the tracks. So I figured I would name this one An Untimely Demise.

Here is a four track jam on my home made partsocaster in a post-punk kind of style. I started out by making a custom drum beat in Superior Drummer using the Dream Pop Ezx drum library. There is a bit of distortion and reverb to make them sound a bit less sterile. With the drums in place I started a basic bass riff on the low e then added a pitch shift and autowah effect to make the first track sound more like a bass. The next track is more of a middle pitched riff with a ping pong delay on it, this track acts as a sort of rhythm and lead throughout the song. The final partsocaster track is a higher pitched lead to brighten up the mix. The final guitar track is on my plastic midi guitar where I controlled a rapture and dimension synth to add a bit more ambiance to the mix.

The overall mood of the song reminds me of the Russian Doomer style genre which sound post-punk to me. It has a retro 80s underground vibe to it. The strange background is an endless zoom by Video by Stefania Buzatu on Pixabay. It seemed to meld with the mood of the song so I toned black and white in the background... checkout more of their stuff here https://pixabay.com/users/stefwithanf...

Here's a five track jam improvised on my Schecter 8 string blackjack guitar. I had no idea what sort of song would come out of this 8 string. I kinda just improvised it to a beat I composed in superior drummer using the pop ezx kit.

First I started with a basic bass riff on the g flat heavy string. The Seymore Duncan blackout pickups are pretty high gain so its a bit tough keeping the eighth string from distorting. This guitar is meant for djent metal but this song ended up more post punk style.

The next two tracks are played in mid and high range octaves with lots of delay panned left and right to make room for the main track panned towards the middle.

Towards the end of the song I bring in the ebow with a bit of distortion and rotary chorus.

The overall mood of the song reminds me of rebellious skater kids from yesteryear disobeying the no skating signs in the park getting into minor trouble with mall security guards in suburbia. Thanks for listening :-)

What do you do when pain blots out joy? How do you learn to take care of yourself? What happens when the things you think are helping end up doing the most harm? 'Auto-Pain' is the Sophomore album from Deeper, a record that finds the band embracing open space, using synths to create shadows where bricks of guitars once would’ve blocked out the sun. The group — singer and guitarist Nic Gohl, bassist Drew McBride, and drummer Shiraz Bhatti — were all graduates of Chicago’s rich DIY scene who came together around their love of Wire, Devo, Gang of Four, and Television. While the new record is still within the Great Lakes post-punk tradition of their debut, the album isn’t as insular as its predecessor; it’s less interested in pile-driving and more willing to dwell in liminal spaces. Guitars enter the picture precisely, locked bass grooves propel things forward. Drummer Shiraz Bhatti, who is half-Pakistani and half-Native American, embraced the drumming patterns he’d heard growing up at pow-wows, channeling the anxieties of his heritage into his playing and keeping the group grounded when they switch into all-out percussive attack. The result is an album both more nuanced and catchy.

Auto-Pain represents the constant wave of depression felt by many in everyday life. Stemmed from Aldous Huxley’s ‘Brave New World’, Auto-Pain is a concept meant to be an inverse to soma, a pill in the book which makes everything numb. The idea of auto-pain is to epitomize the desire to return to a connection with thoughts and clarity, which comes at the expense of feeling everything simultaneously. The album artwork features the now-demolished Prentice Women’s Hospital in Chicago capturing the band’s rounded-off brutalism, and the album title appears in Urdu, a nod to drummer Shiraz Bhatti’s Pakistani heritage. The record was recorded and mixed by Chicago scene luminary Dave Vetraino (Lala Lala, Dehd) and mastered at Chicago Mastering by Greg Obis (Ne-Hi, Melkbelly).

Heaven Surrounds You is a coming of age epic, inspired by the many cult films Surf Curse has cherished through out their young adulthood that are referenced across the album’s tracklist. Surf Curse’s songwriting and instrumental orchestration has matured on their third full length LP, adding layers of polish to their traditionally rough and visceral sound. Rattigan and Rubeck worked with veteran indie producer Jarvis Taveniere, carefully crafting their most lush and vulnerable record to date, during the fall of 2018. Heaven Surrounds You, satisfies the energy and passion that old fans would expect from a Surf Curse record, but expands the band’s songwriting to envelope new audiences into their cinematic sound.

It sees the band take a different approach to their tightly woven concept albums from the 00's, creating a less rigidly themed, reactionary record that struggles with existentialism, nihilistic despair and an oncoming dystopia that feels eerily near at hand.

For the first time since 2006’s Happy Hollow, the album reunites Tim Kasher, guitarist/singer Ted Stevens and bassist Matt Maginn with founding drummer Clint Schnase, as well as co-producer Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, M. Ward, Jenny Lewis) to deliver a cathartic record full of richly melodic, scream-along anthems.

Album: A Forest (single)
Released in: 1980
Genre: #Electronic #Rock

This song is an early version of 'A Forest' with different lyrics. First live presentation on French TV in 1979 (at the Théatre de l'Empire). This was months before the single was released.

This version is much faster compared to the later released single version.
