Following the two most recent mass shootings, the usual cries of DO SOMETHING have resurfaced as they always do following attacks or a crisis. After the Las Vegas shooting, we got cries for a ban on bump stocks; today it's calls for red flag legislation. These laws, also known as Gun-Violence Restraining Orders, or Extreme Risk Protection Orders allow family members and mental health professionals to petition a court for an order enabling legal authorities to temporarily remove guns from those who are deemed to be a significant danger to themselves or others.
As is often the case with these DO SOMETHING solutions, it sounds good on the surface but what is the truth? Listen to find out.
Since nobody is talking about how Red Flag laws are dangerous, I guess I have too.
1. They will drive conversations outside the eyes of social media because shooters will be able to say, hey, I shouldn't post anything that would even suggest I am angry about my life and the state of the world. 2. It will drive good people away from talking about controversial things because they will be worried about being Red Flagged.
What we need to fight for is an Internet Bill of Rights - limiting the power of social media companies from limiting our views.
1. No to Red Flag laws. 2. No to social media internet giant monopolies. 3. No to social media manipulating their algorithms for political gains. 4. No to social media banning/suspending/locking accounts they disagree with. 5. No to social media burying content.
Our right to post anything should only be limited to what is legal in our countries to post and say - no matter what it said. Our civil liberties to free speech and the ability to defend ourselves should be enshrined, and social media companies should be required to open their algorithms to public scrutiny.
In response to recent events, there's "bipartisan agreement" in D.C. about new laws that would remove guns from people without due process. And given a new FBI policy change, anyone with right-of-center ideas may find themselves a target.

Gun control is one of the most contentious issues in American politics. The pro-Second Amendment, pro-gun arguments are so much more persuasive and based on facts, common sense, and logic that gun control advocates should be embarrassed to even engage in an argument.
Successfully arguing this issue really only requires you to repeat the words of gun control advocates back to them with a little commentary. The illogical nature of their arguments and the place of ignorance from which they often argue is quite easy to identify and dismantle for any intellectually honest person.
