Rocking S Ranch in east Texas had a very large red oak die located in a valley on the ranch. Cut the only straight section to 8.5 feet. Hauled to our antique sawmill that is powered by 1964 Case wheel tractor model 530. 1.5 years later, milled into 1" boards. Hauled boards back to shop on a 1953 Chevy 4100 1.5 ton dump bed pickup.

We found a white tree pushed up in the dirt by the timber loggers. We haul it to our antique sawmill and make boards, sticker and strap them. Show some freshly picked buckeyes and a possible white oak mantel from the top of the tree.

Johnny had a cedar post from a barn tear down. He cut it in half and milled the upper log with a chainsaw. He mad a porch slider swing out of the lumber. The lower log had rebar in it. It was removed and milled in to lumber on our antique circular saw.

I take apart and show the inside of the Foley Belsaw M-14 40" circle sawmill blade collars. The documentation presented is from "Circular Sawmills and Their Efficient Operation" Book by Stanford J. Lunstrum. I have no idea what the original specifications were from Foley Belsaw.

We have been improving our pasture since 2011. Spread chicken manure , reduced the gopher population, and mowed many times. Gerald is a one man operation cutting, raking, baling, and hauling.

We stretched the bunk on the antique Foley Belsw M14 sawmill, which made the feedworks no longer compatible. The cable that pulls the carriage back and forth would back lash on the spool. Jack the Grumpy Machinist said he could fix it! We did cut some nice looking sweet gum boards but boy did we make a lot of mistakes!

In order to build a little house on my 5 wooded acres I had to cut a few trees. I thougt it would be great to make them into lumber for the house so I took them to a local sawyer. The work he did was pathetic and motivated me to build my own bandsaw mill.

I rescue some logs from the firewood pile and take them to the sawmill. I am using a Hud-Son Hunter sawmill which meets my needs nicely.

cutting a rafter for my cabin with the Hud-Son Oscar 121 sawmill. The saw came with a 12 foot track, but I need to make 26 foot rafters, so I welded another 18 feet of track for a total of 30 feet of track, along with extra log dogs. a 4"x12"x26' rafter costs around $300 from the mill or lumber store, and for 28 rafters, that's about $9,000. I got this sawmill for a few thousand dollars, so I'm saving about $7,000 on the rafters by making them myself. This will help keep the total cost of this cabin down to about $20 per square foot - around $60,000 for a 3,200 sq ft log home. see my blog: https://loghomejourney.wordpress.com/2018/08/24/cutting-rafters/

Using a 30' track I welded from 2"x2"x1/4" angle steel to extend the track for a Hudson-Oscar 121 sawmill I bought from a friend. I'll use this sawmill and track to mill my own 4"x12"x28' rafters from logs on my property. I need 28 rafters and they cost about $300 each, so that would be about $8500. This mill and track was much less than that, so I'm saving money. Made my own log dogs for the track, as well.
