The violence breaking out in our public schools is getting out of hand. In this video, a group of white supremacists beat each other in the hallways of a vaunted taxpayer-funded and integrated learning institution. In light of such incidents, which are becoming more common in our schools, black Americans need to rethink integration. Maybe segregating from white people is the answer when trying to protect your children from white terror. On the other hand, if you keep your child in a racially integrated and diverse public school, he will learn some fighting skills that will come in handy in the real world.

Fathers are essential, when you see the youth acting like savages, the politicians will tell us that education will help them develop into productive citizens, now education is important but without a moral foundation you’re not going to be a productive citizen, and who sets that foundation? Fathers and Mothers, it’s a team effort.

When I consistently brought my concerns to our principal and pleaded for help, I was told things like “no one is coming to save us” and “no help is coming.” I was told to hold them for lunch or after-school detention — essentially the solution was to rely on free labor and stretch us even thinner.
I was losing my mind. I was having panic attacks daily, perpetually angry, and severely depressed. I was afraid I would hurt myself, or say or do something at the school that I could not come back from. I had to resign. I could not be the person I needed to be in order to help our students. I was completely and utterly broken.
What is truly tragic about this situation is that McDaniel is not alone, and no one is surprised by my story.
While many of these situations have to do with student behavior, I do not blame them at all. They are traumatized. Nor do I blame the adults in the school trying to make the best of an impossible situation.
This happening because of a failed system — because of decisions made by our political and district leaders.

Protesters shut down Thursday’s Philadelphia School District board meeting after a 7-2 vote to require metal detectors and X-ray machines in every district high school.
Philadelphia Student Union executive director Julien Terrell and around 60 students and faculty who called for a “no” vote on the policy stormed the front of the school board auditorium, denouncing the less than year-old board.
“We are not talking about conversations,” shouted Terrell. “We’re not talking about officers being nice. We are talking about the everyday traumatization of students.”
Terrell continued to speak to an audience of supporters and some district staff. When board President Joyce Wilkerson threatened to have Terrell removed, he reacted in defiance.
“There’s not enough of you all to remove us,” he shouted. And I f–king dare! I dare you to come and remove us!”

I’m so scared for my Black students. I can’t speak about any other demographic. I work with Black students every day and I am so scared about what I see. More and more they seem less and less interested in academic endeavors. We talk so much about having more technology in the classroom but today I saw that, even with an engaging web-quest lesson loaded with opportunities to use technology, watch videos, and work at their own pace, there were still those students who just refused to put forth any effort towards learning.
I don’t know if it’s because I’m a Black teacher but I couldn’t help but notice that it was all Black children who fit that disengaged demeanor. I got so frustrated that I had to ask a colleague to step in my room for me so that I could step out. I needed to release the tears that were welling up in my eyes. My educational philosophy coupled with my real life exposure to the school-to-prison-pipeline has created a hyper-vigilance in me to ensure that my students do their absolute best. I see Black children who aren’t doing what they need to in school and I get scared. It’s not an imagined or far-fetched fear. The fact remains that Black children who don’t do well in school are at greater risk of being further marginalized by society via incarceration and poverty.
Do you know what I see when I look at my Black students who are falling between the cracks? I see kids who are undereducated and over-disciplined. I see kids who are crying out for love and attention. I see kids whose creativity is mistakenly touted as disruption. I see kids who are simultaneously angry and misunderstood with no viable outlet for a positive expression of their angst.

Baltimore is a small town and it is officially divided into nine geographical regions, with over 200 different neighborhoods that are as individual as they are different. I have found that the only way to get a true sense of the lifeblood of this city is to immerse yourself in the different neighborhoods, walk the streets, visit the corner stores, and talk to the people. I would argue that there are two Baltimores, one white and economically advantaged, the other Black and economically challenged—separate and unequal. This system of economic apartheid is like a virus, in that it impacts every aspect of a person’s life from air quality to life expectancy, from clean drinkable water to lack of dependable regular city services, and from literacy rates to murder rates.
We live in the richest state in the country but within Baltimore City, a predominantly Black city, white residents make almost twice as much as Black residents. Unemployment rates for young Black men are three times higher than for young White men and 61% of Black children live in low-income households that have incomes that are less than two times the poverty level. Black Baltimore is struggling. To be clear: life expectancy within Black neighborhoods, like Upton and Druid Heights, where the median income is about $13,388 a year, is only 63 years and the residents have a three times higher rate of dying from heart disease, eight times higher rate of dying from diabetes, 15 times higher rate of dying from homicide, and 20 times higher rate of dying from HIV than in Roland Park, a predominantly white neighborhood, less than five miles away, where the median income is about $90,492 and the life expectancy increases by 20 years. Two Baltimores—separate and unequal.
I asked the students to give me a sense of what they believe is happening at their school and in this community. “White people hate us,” Peyton, an 11th grader, shouted, “because we’re Black and they think we’re poor.” “Facts,” Amir agreed, “They hate us. Every time I go into a white neighborhood, they look at me like I don’t belong or that I’m getting ready to wreck some (stuff) up

A dozen teachers in Metro Nashville Public Schools agreed to discuss rampant student violence in a Teacher Town Hall coordinated by WTVF last weekend that focused on student discipline policies promoted by district superintendent Shawn Joseph.
The policies fall in line with efforts by the Obama administration to reduce the disproportionate number of suspensions for minority students, mostly by keeping kids in school who don’t deserve to be there and disrupt learning for their classmates.
In school districts across the country, the federal government encouraged schools to exchange suspensions for talking circles, counseling, or other restorative justice techniques that teach students there’s no serious repercussions for bad behavior.
Numerous Nashville teachers who spoke to WTVF described their schools as “total chaos,” with some receiving injuries and death threats from students with no help from administrators.
“I mean, there’s just no accountability for the students,” high school teacher Laura Leonard said.

Police responded twice to Snyder High School in Jersey City on Wednesday, first on a report of a parent punching the school’s principal and then to stop a fight that broke out among students after dismissal.
The later fracas led to a three-car collision involving police headed to the Bergen Avenue school, a city official said. Police officers citywide were sent to the school to respond, according to law enforcement sources.
At least nine people were arrested, city spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said.

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Four schools within the Jefferson County Public Schools district are under fire, facing a lawsuit that alleges the students and staff are forced to deal with “unsafe and hostile environments.”
The four schools involved in the lawsuit are Jeffersontown High School, Coleridge-Taylor Montessori Elementary, Seneca High School and Fern Creek High School.
“We don’t have any more secure doors, no alarms, no metal detectors and why is that?” Tamera Collins said.
One of the cases involves a fight between students at Jeffersontown High in August of last year where counselor Sharita Bransford was injured. She said she called out for school security several times and no one came to help her.

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — NBC 15 learned of three staff members attacked on Mobile County campuses and at least two guns recovered during the first few weeks of school in 2019.
Parents say the recent reports of dangers on campus have them worried about their kid’s safety and teachers.
Students at Davidson High School say chaos erupted right before 9 a.m. Thursday.
They tell NBC 15 a female teacher was choked and punched by a special needs student in the science wing.
“She was screaming for help in the hallway and that's what we heard,” students said.
Officials with the school district say on Monday, a parent lunged at an assistant principal at Baker High School sending them both to the ground.
“This ain’t nothing like it used to be they used to not have all this,” Davidson parent Billy Whetley said.
Parents are perplexed, especially after hearing Williamson high school’s principal speak out just last week about his attack.
“More security gosh we need more security more security,” Candy said.
“We need more security, I agree with that,” Whetley said, adding “I agree with that 100 percent.”
Mobile has a director of security, 12 unarmed school resource officers and some outside security guards.
The school board is discussing using more metal detectors during events after school hours.

Score one for the bigots.
The fact that there’s so much glee about news that the actor Jussie Smollet allegedly lied about a late-night attack by two MAGA-hat wearers last month indicates how racist and homophobic some people are.
Conservative commentator Ann Coulter has already tweeted, “Alright, this particular hate crime turned out to be a hoax, but let’s remember, ALL OF THEM are hoaxes. #Smollett.”
The thing is that even if Smollett is found to have lied about what supposedly happened to him during the wee hours of Jan. 29, after leaving a Chicago Subway restaurant, racism remains America’s original sin.
Hate crimes increased substantially after President Donald Trump’s 2016 election. You can’t unsee those disturbing 2017 images of torch-wielding white supremacists in Charlottesville, Va.

BALDWIN (KDKA) — A fight inside Baldwin High School cafeteria sent a school security guard to the hospital Friday.
Fists were being thrown, students were kicking one another, and it all unfolded in the cafeteria during lunch.
Security guards tried to intervene to break up the fight but were pulled to the ground in what became a large group of students punching and kicking one another.
Multiple pairs of students can be seen in videos of the fight. The cell phone footage shows many girls fighting on the ground as their shoes are pulled off. A school security guard can also be seen trying to restrain a student while pulling a pair of girls away from one another. The security guard also appears to be kicked in the head and punched in the head.
In the background, at least three other girls can be seen punching, pulling and grabbing one another in the video while another security guard intervenes.
During the start of the big brawl in the high school cafeteria, the security guard can be seen trying to hold back a female student wearing a white shirt, but is pulled to the ground. Then a second guard is seen trying to hold another teen girl back, but is unable to restrain her.
Soon, an entire group of girls are on the ground, relentlessly punching and hitting, all while the security guard lies underneath the mayhem.

Salisbury's populace has slowly grown more and more diverse, but the numbers accelerated in recent years. Since 2010, Hispanic numbers have risen 30 percent while the African-American population has increased about 21 percent.
Delmarva Now talked with Wicomico County residents Amber Green, Jamaad Gould and Jermichael Mitchell about Salisbury's current racial climate and how it can mprove.
When a lot of people say, "Jim Crow and slavery and everything is over, that happened for a long time." The amount of time we’ve spent out of that is way less than we’ve spent in it. It’s going to take a long time for us to really get to where we see more black businesses being celebrated or events popping up or more black artists — a lot more black everything popping up. A lot more minority stuff.
To me, you’ve a bunch of older white guys, one millennial and one black guy. You’re not reflective of your base or not in touch with your base.
We’ve crossed that threshold, but we’ve seen so many of our peers, our friends be incarcerated, get out, go right back. They never got the chance to learn anything else. America pushes to the side the black man, that may have some type of racism component to it. It shows there’s some type of racism component to it. It’s there and the hurdles are different.

School resource officers at two Metro schools say they are being verbally abused by the students. The officers will be moved out of those schools beginning next month.
One officer from Bass Learning Center and two from Johnson Alternative will be deployed to other schools, according to Metro police spokesman Don Aaron. However, the officers will continue to make daily visits throughout the school year.
Next school year, Metro officers will not be stationed at either school.
Johnson and Bass are for students who have struggled in mainstream academic settings at other middle and high schools and would otherwise be expelled.
At Johnson, police have responded approximately 100 times and there are about 143 students enrolled.
By comparison, police have responded to Antioch High School approximately 200 times so far this school year where there are over 2,000 students enrolled.
All School Rescource Officers are employees of the Metro Nashville Police Department.

NORTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- The Hazelwood School District is investigating an apparent assault of a teacher by a student that was caught on camera Friday morning at Hazelwood East High School.
Parents and grandparents who were picking up students after school were concerned to hear the news.
"It's uh, something that's really disturbing,” said Jay Thompson whose grandson is a student at the high school.
St. Louis County police said they took a 16-year-old student into custody shortly before 7 a.m. Friday before turning him over to Family Services.
In a video recorded on a cellphone, the student walks up to the teacher who is sitting at the desk in front of the room. According to school officials, the teacher made a phone call in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.
"The teacher tried to reach out to the parent but was unsuccessful. The parent was at work and could not deal with the situation at that time. So the student continued to escalate,” said Kimberly McKenzie with the Hazelwood School District.
In the video, the student could be seen moving closer to the teacher and slapping her with his left hand. He then walked to the doorway and tried to punch a school safety officer who had just arrived.

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A student at Centennial High says a schoolhouse gang forced him to fight on camera, not once, or twice, but three times.
"The kid throws my son on the floor and is stomping him all in the head," said Sherry, the mother of one victim who did not want to be fully identified.
Sherry says the school suspended her 16-year-old son last week for a fight in the bathroom, but after looking into it she learned that the entire week he was being targeted by a gang of 15-20 black male students.
"His good friend told me they target white kids only because they fell that they're weak," Sherry said.
Her son who doesn’t want to be identified says, "They haven't fought anybody that's not white. They haven't fought any African Americans or Mexicans it's all been, white people."
"My friend got jumped by them, and they took his shoes," he said.
He shared his dismay over that attack on social media and the next day he says several teens from the group circled him in the locker room before gym class.
"They said we'll give you an option, you can step in the hallway and fight or we'll just jump you in the locker room," he explained.
The day after that, Sherry’s son says the same group made him fight again. The final video was recorded in the school bathroom. It shows him fighting yet another member of the group.

Last Thursday, a teacher at the school was body slammed by a 14-year-old freshman boy. The teacher says he took the boy's cell phone away because he was listening to music during class. When he called the student's parent, it wasn't a minute later before the teacher says the boy threw things at a him, started swearing and calling him vile names.
Teachers and neighbors say student behavior changed at McKinley after longtime principal Crystal Boling Barton was placed on leave. Her case remains in arbitration. Neighbors notice a difference, stating "she ran a tight ship, these are children they need supervision."
The teacher injured told 2 On Your Side that "teachers and students feel unsafe."
The current acting principal is Marck Abraham.
"This is one of the first schools that we've ever had that the teachers took a vote of no confidence (in a principal) because of what was going on in that school," said Rumore.

BALTIMORE, Md. — Friday was the first meeting of the new Baltimore City Schools Safety Task Force.
The group was created after three attacks on teachers in the city by students in the last month had educators concerned. The meeting was held to find solutions to these assaults in Baltimore City.
Mark Missouri and Leaynol Tiede are seniors at Dunbar high school. They say this anger and frustration from some students starts off in their home life before they even get to the classroom.
"And that’s why I think that we should build a connection with these students so that we can know the problems that are coming in so we can try to stop them before it excavates to this point," said Tiede.
These students say the pressure of living in the city, be it the violence of the streets or problems in the home, make it hard to turn off when they come to school.

The parents of two students who were attacked in separate incidents at Minneapolis' Edison High School last week are speaking out about the recent outbreak of violence among students.
On Monday, the parents of a 15-year-old Edison student told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS their daughter was sent to the hospital with a concussion after three girls attacked her in the school's cafeteria.
On Thursday, another 14-year-old Edison student was knocked unconscious by another student and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The victim's parents told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS their daughter also suffered a concussion and has another brain scan this week.
The mother of the 14-year-old injured in last Thursday agreed to talk with 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS under the condition the family's name would not be used.
"This is an assault on my daughter and it was unprovoked," the mother said. "When you walk up to someone and punch them in the face it is an assault, when you knock someone unconscious and they are defenseless and you continue the attack, it is an assault."
The girl's mother said she is in the process of removing her daughter from Edison and is not happy with the current level of security and safety at the Northeast Minneapolis high school.
"I had warned the school about this girl who was bullying my daughter," the mother said. "And, they did not protect her and after I got the call I cried in the car all the way from my job to the hospital."
"I never thought I would be bringing my daughter to a brain trauma specialist on a regular basis, to make sure everything is OK, all because of a terrible attack inside the school," she said.
Hardy Armstrong is an Edison parent who told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS his daughter was also punched in the face by another student after his daughter tried to help the girl who was knocked out.
Armstrong said he met with school leaders at Edison back in October to warn them about what he said was "an escalation" of violence at the school and at some outside school activities.
"I met with the principal and the principal, basically, brushed me off," Armstrong said. "Eventually, I got up and walked out of the meeting because it did not seem like they were doing anything."
"We have counselors, social workers, mediators and other things on our campus for students," Warne said. "Unfortunately, there are times when we cannot predict when students will reach for violence to solve their conflicts."
The Minneapolis School District told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS there were eight assaults at Edison in the 2017-18 school year and so far, on record, there has only been one assault in the 2018-19 school year.

Hamilton is just one example of St. Louis Public Schools’ teacher shortage problem. During the school year, it’s typical for the district to have 100 or more teaching vacancies, among fewer than 2,000 total teaching positions.
When teachers are missing — either because of position vacancies or absences — it hurts student learning. Students often are funneled into other classrooms or handed over to subs. The problem is compounded by the fact that high-poverty schools in north St. Louis often have the hardest time finding and keeping teachers, said Halliday Douglas, director of talent strategy and management for St. Louis Public Schools.
PERPETUAL SHORTAGE
Hamilton was short on teachers from the time school began last fall, when the principal learned that a special education teacher had quit over the summer to take another job.
By May, half of Hamilton’s teaching staff, or nine people, had left the school. At one point, Principal Starlett Frenchie needed five substitute teachers, on top of the two permanent subs the district had already assigned to Hamilton for the school year. But she could get only three.
Frenchie said she could only guess as to why those teachers left. The district conducts exit interviews with teachers who leave, but she said she didn’t receive reports from those interviews.
She suspects pay is part of it. In the 2016-2017 school year, the median salary for Hamilton staff was $39,015 a year, which is the district’s starting salary.
But the classroom environment, specifically student discipline, may also play a role. Last year was the first year the district halted out-of-school suspensions for kindergartners through second-graders.
The policy was intended as a way to keep students in school and learning. But that year, Frenchie lost all her K-2 teachers.
Frenchie said her staff could use more resources to meet the demands of such a policy, such as training on how to manage distressed or unruly children in the classroom. She could also use more staff to handle such students in school. Hamilton has an in-school suspension coordinator whose job is to help pupils work through their problems, but the coordinator has been absent so often that there hasn’t really been an in-school suspension program.
“Teachers are coming out of college. They’re not coming from a place where they’re equipped to deal with some of these social-emotional traumas that we experience in urban education. As a result, it tends to create traumatized adults,” said Frenchie, who has been principal at Hamilton for seven years and is the district’s elementary school leader of the year.
JOB OFFERS PENDING
This year, Westlund’s office screened all applications within 48 hours. The district interviewed candidates by phone, then brought them in for an interview with multiple principals. Candidates have to teach a sample lesson and hear feedback on their teaching.
Frenchie said she liked the new hiring process and had hopes that she would have success in keeping teachers in the coming school year. She has offers out to fill all nine teaching positions she needs for the fall.

From rapes to arsons to guns, Florida’s school districts are hiding countless crimes that take place on campus, defying state laws and leaving parents with the false impression that children are safer than they are.
Many serious offenses — and even minor ones — are never reported to the state as required, an investigation by the South Florida Sun Sentinel found. A staggering number of schools report no incidents at all — no bullying, no trespassing, nothing.
Even murder has been ignored. A student at Coral Gables Senior High got a 40-year prison sentence for a fatal stabbing in 2009, a case that attracted national attention, but the Miami-Dade County school district never reported it to the state.

The new claims, revealed in a leaked report, paint a different picture of a teenager who frequently found himself in trouble with authorities.
It was also revealed that he might have attacked a bus driver, according to a Twitter account that it is claimed belonged to the teen.
The Miami Herald claims that in October, he was caught with a 'burglary tool' - a flathead screwdriver - and 12 pieces of women's jewellery. Martin insisted that they did not belong to him.
The fresh claims are likely to be seized upon by supporters of George Zimmerman who say the teenager launched an unprovoked attack on the neighbourhood watch volunteer moments before Trayvon was shot dead.
The revelation about the suspension in October, in a school report obtained by the Herald, was condemned today by Trayvon's family as part of a campaign to smear their dead son.
The boy's mother said: 'They killed my son and now they're trying to kill his reputation.'
The conservative news site the Daily Caller and the blog the Wagist claim they have unearthed a Twitter account, which has since been taken down, that belonged to the teen.
Among many Tweets, the Wagist claims, is a message from his cousin implying that Trayvon attacked a bus driver.
'Yu ain't tell me yu swung on a bus driver,' a user Tweeted to Travyon's alleged account five days before he was killed.
The Daily Caller, says it has published 152 pages of tweets downloaded from Trayvon's account. The site says Trayvon went by the Twitter handle NO_LIMIT_N***A.
Meanwhile, Joe Oliver, Zimmerman's longtime friend, told Good Morning America Monday that no matter how the case comes out -- even if the shooting is ruled justified -- 'George has virtually lost his life, too.'
Mr Oliver said Zimmerman has gone into hiding and is in fear of his life over the public outcry for his arrest. A fringe group, the New Black Panther Party, has offered a $10,000 reward for his 'capture.'
The October suspension was officially for graffiti, after he and some friends wrote ‘W.T.F.’ on a school locker.
According to an October report of the incident by the Miami Dade Schools Police, obtained by the Miami Herald, Trayvon never received any punishment for the jewellery because he said it was not his and it belonged to a friend.
In total, he had 12 pieces of mostly women’s rings and earrings in his bag.
Ben Crump, a lawyer for Trayvon’s parents, said that they ‘never heard anything like this about a bag of jewellery….And anyway, it’s completely irrelevant to what happened February 26.
The hearing in front of the House Judiciary Committee comes as nearly three quarters of Americans believe Zimmerman should be arrested, according to a CNN/ORC International poll.
Only 11 percent of the people surveyed believe Zimmerman should not be arrested. The rest are unsure.
The unanimity against Zimmerman's shooting even crosses racial and lines. About 67 percent of whites support his arrest and 86 percent of non-whites. Majorities of Republicans, Democrats and independents are all on the same page.

On the first day of school this fall at Liberty Hill Academy, a 14-year-old boy told an assistant principal that he’d like to see the administrator out on the street so he could bust his head, according to a North Charleston police report.
The threat could have been seen as a bad omen, a sign of yet another difficult year at Charleston County’s alternative school for at-risk middle-schoolers. Liberty Hill has come under scrutiny since a handful of ex-teachers described its environment as lawless, dangerous and demoralizing.
Teachers are getting 28 days of professional development this year, far more than at the district’s other schools. They learn about childhood trauma from mental health counselors, work out plans for the “restorative circles” where students open up about their emotions, and practice using the school’s computerized learning system.
Last school year, teachers were frustrated when their discipline referrals piled up in a backlog and Haynes deleted 159 referrals without action. This summer, Haynes met with them to get input on what should be deemed a “major” referral and what could wait for a day or longer.

A year-and-a-half teaching at Liberty Hill Academy nearly broke Sandra Lemen.
Middle-schoolers at Charleston County’s alternative behavioral school threatened to kill Lemen, hit her with a trash can, and made graphic sexual comments and propositions, according to the longtime teacher who lost her job this year.
They stood on the desks and openly mocked her. They left class and roamed the halls with impunity. Her room was equipped with an intercom button to request backup from the front office, but she said students sometimes physically blocked her from pressing it. And even when she filed formal reports with the principal’s office, Lemen said she didn’t get the help she needed.
“The students ran the school,” she said.

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Documents from the Charleston County School District show thousands of disciplinary reports went unprocessed for an entire school at a CCSD alternative school.
Liberty Hill Academy is CCSD’s K-8 alternative program and day treatment center that has around 100 students.

The referrals include 348 incidents of major disruption, 175 threat incidents, 109 incidents of hitting, kicking and pushing students, 62 incidents of fighting, and 82 simple assault incidents. Those numbers were provided by the district through the Freedom of Information Act.
Haynes said the school has taken measures to keep up with disciplinary referrals after having nearly 4,000 last year school year.

A black 9-year-old girl in Alabama allegedly took her own life after facing relentless bullying and racism in class, according to reports.
McKenzie Adams’ relatives said she hanged herself Dec. 3 in her home in Linden, about 100 miles west of Montgomery, and was discovered by her grandmother, according to the Tuscaloosa News.
Since the start of the school year, the fourth-grader had been the target of bullying at US Jones Elementary School, where she was teased over her friendship with a white male classmate, according to her family.
Her aunt, Eddwina Harris, said the group of students taunted McKenzie by telling her to commit suicide.
“She was being bullied the entire school year, with words such as ‘kill yourself,’ ‘you think you’re white because you ride with that white boy,’ ‘you ugly,’ ‘black bitch,’ ‘just die,’” Harris told the newspaper.

According to Adams McKenzie told her teachers and her assistant principal she was being bullied
a number of times.
"She told me that this one particular child was writing her nasty notes in class. It was just things you

According to Adams race played a factor in the bullying. A white family friend drove 9-year-old McKenzie Adams to school everyday.
"Part of it could have been because she rode to school with a white family. And al ot of it was race, some of the student bullies would say to her why you riding with white people your black, your ugly. You should just die".

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Dozens of students and police were caught up in a fight in Scranton Wednesday afternoon.
Police say it started out as a fight involving a handful of Scranton High School students on Olive Street, but it grew into something much bigger.
Cell phone video shows the fight spilled onto the street and stopped traffic on Olive Street in Scranton around 3 p.m. just as students from Scranton High School were dismissed for the day.
Police say three officers were called to stop a fight involving a small group of students, but once officers told the kids to go home, students started kicking the officers.
Police say more students joined the fray and the group swelled to 60 or 70 kids.

FITCHBURG, Mass. — Fitchburg State University has suspended a basketball player from the team and barred him from campus after a flagrant foul during a game Tuesday night.
The team has also removed guard Kewan Platt from the team's online roster.
Platt, a 6-foot-4 junior from Jamaica Plain, was playing in the final minutes of a game against Nichols College when the foul occurred.
As Nichols guard Nate Tenaglia shot and hit a three-pointer, video from BoxCast shows Platt approaching along the baseline. Platt appears to glance over his shoulder at the referee before raising an elbow and hitting Tenaglia in the face.
Tenaglia fell to the ground as Platt ran back up the court.

Last week, a classroom of Baltimore City students witnessed a peer punch a teacher dead in the face. And before the bell could ring, the video was uploaded to social media for the world to see, with tens of thousands watching it within the first 24 hours.
As a former educator in Baltimore City schools, I have witnessed similar situations. The students involved were often disciplined following the altercations, but it was always clear that the problem was bigger than the moment.
The fact of the matter is: We cannot expect the violence that the students of this city endure in their communities not to make its way into the classroom. And when it does, it affects every person in that school building. The disruption that is caused by a viral incident such as this one can set a school climate back tremendously and derail everyday learning, leading to further headlines and criticism.

TOWSON, Md. (WBFF) - Dozens of Baltimore County school teachers came out Tuesday night to fight for safer classrooms.
They say students at some schools are out of control, putting people at risk.
Teachers showed up wearing bright-red T-shirts and carrying signs to get their point across: make classrooms safe again.

MAYWOOD (CBSLA) — A teacher at Maywood Academy High School was arrested Friday after a violent altercation with a student inside a classroom.
In the video, the teacher, identified as 64-year-old Marston Riley, can be seen decking the student after a confrontation. The two then go at it in a horribly disturbing fist fight, reports CBS2’s Tom Wait, all of this unfolding in a band class full of stunned students, some who recorded the incident with their cell phones.
The beating is nonstop, with the teacher wailing on the student, even using an object, perhaps his phone, to pummel the boy to the ground. Students and an adult try to pull the student away, but the teacher is relentless — the student struggled to escape.
“It was just back and forth, back and forth, and then the teacher just decided to throw a punch and that’s when everything happened,” the student said.
The fallout from the video is just beginning. Parents are furious.

LORAIN, Ohio -- More violence in the halls of Lorain High School, leaving three teachers hurt and three students facing expulsion. And now, the school board president is speaking out once again about the escalating situation in the Lorain City Schools.
There is cell phone video of a fight inside Lorain High School Wednesday that injured at least three teachers trying to break it up.
According to the Lorain City School District, the fight broke out right after a fire drill on the second floor.
“This is absolutely disturbing. This is something that has been going on for months now,” said school board president Tony Dimacchia.
According to Dimacchia, the recent outbreak of violence and incidents at the high school is the result of change in the state’s takeover and lack of leadership from CEO David Hardy.

There are roughly twice as many white students as black students enrolled in Fayette County public schools. But last school year, nearly twice as many black students were given in-school suspensions compared to white students.
The same held for out-of-school suspensions, with twice as many black students being disciplined as white students.
That striking disparity in disciplinary rates compared to the district’s overall demographics is leading to new questions for district leaders. The fact that black students are punished twice as often as white students means the district needs new practices and policies, said NAACP education chair Shambra Mulder.
▪ In 2016-17, 22.4 percent or 9,042 students in the district were black; 52.2 percent or 21,074 were white. Almost 16 percent, or 6, 405 were Hispanic and 1, 826 Asian. The total number of students in the district for 2016-17 in the district was 40,404.
▪ Black students in Fayette County accounted for 10,758 in-school suspensions in 2016-17, compared with 5,358 in-school suspensions for whites.
▪ There were 2,312 out-of-school suspensions for blacks in the school district compared with 1,185 out-of-school suspensions for white students in 2016-17, according to data on the district’s Kentucky Department of Education Report Card.
▪ The data in the district report card for 2016-17 showed that black students were involved in 12,649 incidents ranging from assault to tobacco offenses compared with 6,525 white students.
▪ Hispanic students were involved in 477 out-of-school suspensions in 2016-17 and 2,292 in-school suspensions.
▪ District officials reported to the state that black students were found in violation in 817 bullying and harassment incidents, compared to 444 incidents in which white students were found in violation.
▪ The district reported that black students were found in violation in 94 drug incidents, compared to 74 incidents for whites. Black students were expelled and received services from the district in four incidents as opposed to one white student. There were seven arrests of black students reported in 2016-17. One white student was arrested.
▪ One area in which white students committed more offenses was in tobacco: 96 incidents for whites, 23 for blacks.

She says the driver saw what was happening in the mid-September attack and did nothing to help. Darcy Young says the child who assaulted her granddaughter was disciplined but administrators told her the bus driver who didn't intervene or get medical attention, did nothing wrong.
"I see a crowd of kids, I thought something was going on and I look over and saw my granddaughter trembling like she was having a seizure or something," Young said. "She was in complete shock."
Young didn't know what happened to her 12-year-old granddaughter on the bus until another student showed her cell phone video of the attack. The seventh grade Westland Stevenson student was brutally attacked by another girl. She was punched, kicked and dragged by her hair.
But Young wanted to know why the bus driver did nothing to stop it. A parent who got on the bus was the one that stopped the violent attack.
"She got back in her bus and went to the next bus stop, didn't do anything," said Young. "A parent got on the bus and had to intervene. At this point no one has called me, nobody has told me anything. Nobody called me to say she was attacked or assaulted. She just dropped her off like it was any other day."
Young said the principal handled the situation well, disciplining the student who attacked her granddaughter. But she claims the bus driver, who didn't help Maggie or even alert authorities, got a pass.

John Sherman, who was in the stands when the melee happened, said the teams are known rivals.
"The kids were kind of heated and words were exchanged," he recalled. "Then when the meet and greet was happening, someone reached over and hit his own player while trying to hit someone else and that's when it started."

Some parents said their children are being forced to stand on a moving school bus, and they believe it's not because the vehicle is overcrowded.
Several other parents said they have been complaining about the bus driver for weeks. They said there are safety issues with children standing and claimed the minority students never have to do it.
The African-American bus driver is now the focus of an investigation.

A Madison police official said they received a call at 3:57 p.m. for someone shot on a bus at Pflaum Road and Monona Drive. They were looking for the shooter overnight Wednesday and one person was taken to the hospital, Lt. Jamar Gary said.
The 15-year-old was arrested Thursday morning by the Madison Police Department's Violent Crime Unit, officials said.
The victim, a 16-year-old boy, was shot in the leg and is suffering from non-life-threatening injuries. The victim and shooter are both believed to be students. Police said the two knew each other and that it is not clear if the shooting was intentional or accidental at this time.

A former Baltimore County teacher says parents are being lied to concerning their kid’s safety in public schools.
After spending 33 years teaching in Baltimore County classrooms, Ed Kitlowski is now running for County School Board. He’s frustrated, because during his career, he saw how student discipline has changed and the effects it had.
“The lie is that what we're doing is working,” says Kitlowski, who states parents are being lied to.
Kitlowski says No Child Left Behind, passed in 2001, drastically changed public education because it shifted the focus to data. For example, Project Baltimore investigated suspension rates. We found in-school and out-of-school suspensions, statewide, have plummeted 58 percent since 2007. Kitlowski says student behavior didn’t improve, the discipline just stopped because principals wanted their school’s data to look better.
“One school I was at, the principal made a policy of not suspending students. Didn't broadcast that to the student body, but after a while the students start to see. Well, so and so did this really bad behavior, and nothing happened to him. I'm gonna see what I can do,” says Kitlowski.
He recalls a time, 25 years ago, when a student called him a “stupid jerk.” He still has the paperwork showing the kid was reprimanded, and his parents were called to the school for a meeting. Towards the end of his career, Kitlowski says a student brought a knife to class. The weapon was taken, but the student was not disciplined.
fter he says he was kicked, punched and sworn at during the latter part of his career, Kitlowski retired in 2016. Now, as a school board candidate, he says it’s time to shift the focus from data back to students and tell parents what’s really happening inside their kid’s school.
“Teachers aren't trained to deal with a lot of the discipline problems they're seeing,” he says. “I find that there's a lack of transparency about what's happening, and Project Baltimore seemed to be looking at that and bringing some transparency.”
