Commander Ian Fleming as the 2IC of Royal Navy intelligence from 1939-1945) was beset by many unique problems in WW2--one of them was the effectiveness of Italian frogmen of Decimas X who near the vital Africa/Europe naval passageway of Gibralter operated from a hidden underwater hatch of the aground ship, the Olterra.

Once you see this movie on how the Italian frogmen and their wet SDVs were defeated in real life by LCDR Lionel "Buster" Crabb and his men, you'll understand Fleming's book/movie "Thunderball" and be ready to tackle the Crabb mystery which is revealed in Fleming's OPJB 2IC, John Ainsworth Davis aka Christopher Creighton's semi-fictional book "The Krushchev Objective". The Soviet dictator was visiting the UK and either limpet mines were attached to his cruiser to assassinate him coming from war mongers in Russia but removed by MI6 cut-out-for-hire, Crabb and/or listening devices as Peter Wright of MI5 says in his book, "Spy Catcher".

Take your pic.

Seaplane + Mini-Sub

The essences of underwater warfare is while you can hide, the water also slows you down to around 30 mph so crossing the vast ocean distances of the Earth is slow/tedious requiring you to be already close by the action--or you FLY to cover the distance THEN swim which cries out for SEAPLANE TRANSPORTS that we once had but only the wise Russians., Japanese and Chinese have them today excepting some small SeaWolf Amphibians (SWAs) in SEAL use which need folding wings, sensors, weaponry and water-proof containers for carry aft of a submarine's main sail.

How are we going to fix this?

HerkuSKIs (Modify our C-130Js with Pantobase skis)

Or swallow some PRIDE and COTS BUY either 500 mph fast Russian seaplane amphibians and/or severe sea state-capable Japanese 400 mph propfan US-2s. Smaller Canadian CL-415 turboprops are an option, too.
Mother ships are needed to refuel/rearm and mobile "base" large LRASes.

Submarines can be covert small seaplane carriers as the Japanese proved in WW2.

H.I. Sutton's web site is THE world-standard reference to stay up-to-date with frogman warfare.

If you want to focus on WW2 and current COPP and RM Commandos our FB page is on it:

Commander Ian Fleming RNVR 1939-51 wrote the James Bond 007 books/movies for the Information Research Division (IRD) of MI6-SIS who he worked for as a Master Spy under journalistic cover from 1933-39 and 1945-1964 when he was murdered (as concluded by legendary investigative reporter, Jim Marrs to me) to prevent him publicly condemning the Warren Commission white wash of the CIA's group ambush murder of his friend, President John F. Kennedy.

Happy New Year, folks. To mark our entry into the new (Roaring?) Twenties, I'm uploading a film that turns a century old this year!

Harold Lloyd was one of the top stars of the silent movie era, right up there with Chaplin and Keaton. His career (and life) came close to being ended while this film was being made when he was posing for publicity images, lighting a cigarette with the burning fuse of a fake bomb that turned out to be not so fake. Yeah, apparently folks a century ago had actual bombs laying around to get confused with props. Take that, Snowflakes!

Fortunately, most of the sight returned to his eye, and heavy makeup was the norm for movie making so hiding the facial damage wasn't a problem. He had to devise a glove that replaced some missing digits though.

This two-reeler was produced and directed by Hal Roach, who is also known for the LAUREL & HARDY shorts and creating the OUR GANG (LITTLE RASCALS). It features Lloyd's future wife Mildred Davis and Ernie 'Sunshine Sammy' Morrison, who would be the first member of the Our Gang, predecessor of Farina, Stymie, and Buckwheat.

From 1920, here is HAUNTED SPOOKS.

Halloween festivities continue with a weirdly scary one...

The Fleischers got their start by developing rotoscoping, an ancestor of today's motion-capture animation. To demonstrate it, they created Ko-Ko the Clown. Ko-Ko went on to be their primary cartoon star in the silent era. He was given a semi-anthropomorphic dog sidekick named Fitz. Fitz would evolve through various forms into the fully-anthropomorphic (which is to say essentially a vaguely dog-shaped, functionally human character) Bimbo, who was the studio's lead star going into the sound era. Bimbo would get a girlfriend who would evolve to become completely human as the Fleischers' biggest original star, Betty Boop. By that point, Ko-Ko was reduced to cameos and supporting roles in Betty Boop shorts. But he did make a brief comeback on syndicated TV in the early 1960s, voiced by Larry Storch. Often featured on your local hosted kiddie shows.

Beyond the usual creepiness of silent-era cartoons and the nightmare fuel common to early Fleischer work, this short qualifies for a Halloween showing by featuring the Devil himself, a Tree Monster, and the most evil character of them all: Fitz the Dog, who is literally hellbent to pull the Destroy The World lever.

What idiot keeps installing "Blow Us All To Atoms" levers in the first place?! (See the end of BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN)!

Charlie has trouble with actors' luggage and conflicts over who gets the star's dressing room. There are further difficulties with frequent scene changes, wrong entries and a fireman's hose. At one point he juggles an athlete's supposed weights. The humor is still rough: he kicks an older assistant in the face and allows him to be run over by a truck.

Buster Keaton asks the father of the woman he loves for her hand in marriage, but the father wants to see Keaton make something of himself first. "I'll leave for the city to make good. If I'm not a success, I'll come back and shoot myself," Buster declares, which is a perfectly acceptable arrangement as far as the father is concerned. So Keaton heads off for the big city and tries his hand at a number of different jobs. But his letters to his girl suggest more noble and enterprising careers than those he's actually attempting. Her imaginings provide the basis for the title, while his actual efforts provide the humor.

Buster Keaton stars in this comedy as the captive of hostile Indians. His captors tie him to a stake and prepare him for death by fire. Keaton moves with the stake as the Indians try frantically to place the firewood around him. When he survives the flames due to his fire-resistant clothes, Keaton is made a member of the tribe and named Little Chief Paleface. He then foils the scheme of unsavory oil speculators to steal the land from his Indian companion.

Steamboat Bill, Jr. is the story of a naive, college-educated dandy who must prove himself to his working-class father, a hot-headed riverboat captain, while courting the daughter of his father's rival, who threatens to put Steamboat Bill, Sr. and his paddle-wheeler out of business.

Steamboat Bill Jr. is a 1928 feature-length comedy silent film featuring Buster Keaton. Released by United Artists, the film is the last product of Keaton's independent production team and set of gag writers. It was not a box-office success and proved to be the last picture Keaton would make for United Artists. Keaton would end up moving to MGM where he would make one last film with his trademark style, The Cameraman (1928 film), before all of his creative control was taken away by the studio.
The director was Charles Reisner, the credited writer was Carl Harbaugh (although Keaton wrote the film and publicly called Harbaugh useless but "on the payroll"), and also featured Ernest Torrence, Marion Byron, and Tom Lewis.
The film was named after a popular Arthur Collins (singer) song, "Steamboat Bill".

Buster and Sybil exit a chapel as newlyweds. Among the gifts is a portable house you easily put together in one week

One Week is a 1920 in film American short comedy film starring comedian Buster Keaton, the first film to be released made by Keaton on his own; Keaton had worked with Fatty Arbuckle for a number of years. The film was written and directed by Keaton and Edward F. Cline, and runs for 19 minutes. Sybil Seely co-stars. The High Sign had been filmed prior to One Week, but Keaton considered it an inferior effort to debut with, and released it the following year when he was convalescing from an injury.
Guitarist Bill Frisell released a soundtrack to the movie in 1995 on his album The High Sign/One Week.
In 2008, One Week was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

The opening scene, a dream sequence prior to the vaudeville routines which follow, is what makes this film famous. In it Keaton plays everyone in a theater simultaneously (through multiple exposures). He is the band leader, all its members, the dancers on the stage and everyone in the audience.

The Playhouse is a 1921 silent short film written, directed by, and starring Buster Keaton. The movie runs for 22 minutes, and is most famous for an opening sequence in which Keaton plays every role.

Charlie plays two roles as two spectators at a music-hall show. It has a few good laughs and also provides an interesting look at old-fashioned theater entertainment.

A Night in the Show was Charlie Chaplin's 12th film for Essanay Studios. It was made at Majestic Studio in Los Angeles the fall of 1915 in film. Chaplin played two roles: one as Mr. Pest and one as Mr. Rowdy. The film was created from Chaplin's stage work from a play called Mumming Birds (aka A Night at an English Music Hall in the USA) with the Karno Company from London. Chaplin performed this play during his U.S. tours with Fred Karno company and decided to bring some of this play to his film work. Edna Purviance played a minor role as a lady in the audience.

Mr. Pest tries several theater seats before winding up in front in a fight with the conductor and, eventually, the entire cast of an evening variety show.

'Mud and Sand' is a satire on the Rudolph Valentino Classic Blood and Sand.. Stan Laurel plays the Bullfighter (Rubharb Vaseline) who wants to make it to the top and win back the girl.

Mud and Sand is a silent film starring Stan Laurel, that was filmed in 1922 in film. Laurel plays a matador who makes a fool of a famous Spanish dancer. The dancer demands revenge and, in the end, kills the matador by throwing a concealed brick at him after a fight with the fiercest bull in Spain. The moral of the story, shown in the last scene, is: "If you want to live long — and be happy — cut out the bull!" The title spoofs the Rudolph Valentino film Blood and Sand (1922 film), and many scenes directly parody that film.
