#stout

Adding coffee beans to a stout is not a completely new thing. Neither is aging a strong stout in a bourbon barrel. Kentucky Ale has taken both of these ideas and put them together: a coffee stout aged in bourbon barrels. The result is a strong coffee aroma with hints of vanilla and oak. This is a good balance of flavors.

Channel Dad Bryon Lape, in the guise of Brainmuffin, reviews the Kentucky Coffee Barrel Stout with his daughter Kelloggs. While he enjoys various strong beers, his daughter doesn't, but she really likes coffee. Will she like the Kentucky Coffee Barrel Stout?

Here is the description of the stout from the Kentucky Ale website:
Kentucky Coffee Barrel Stout is brewed and aged with Alltech® Café Citadelle Haitian coffee and aged in world-famous Kentucky bourbon barrels. The result is a complex stout with dark-roasted malts, hints of caramel and vanilla, and a lightly roasted coffee finish.

This is a well crafted chocolate stout from our friends in the Great White North Brasserie Dieu De Ceil brewing. With chocolate nibs and real vanilla it is a full rich complex brew. The complexity starts with the initial hit which is dense and layered. It builds from there as the dark chocolate with just a hint of vanilla starts to build into the plush & heavy middle. As the vanilla tapers off the dark chocolate bitterness grows creeps towards the dirty tartish finish. This is a very well crafted beer with an interesting flavor profile that is designed for the lovers of dark bitter chocolate. Was it worth $6 for 11.5 oz.? meh maybe if you enjoy this kind of thing.
Thanks for swinging by and helping me grow the channel.
Have a nice weekend,

I gave this 3.5 just for its complexity. It's a very interesting beer. It hits fast and dirty up front w a cascade of flavors before slamming into a medium fast middle and a dry dirty coffee finish. I'm not a coffee beer guy as you know if your a regular but this was better than you average coffee brew.
ABV is 8.5 IBUs are 30 the SRM is again inky black eldritch and the degrees Plato is 18.
While I'm still 0/3 w left hand this is worth a look ,especially if it's in your wheel house.
Thx for checking in, I'll be on hiatus for a couple of days. We're supposed to be getting some weather out here so the bunker is gonna be down for a few days.

When people think of stout, usually Guinness is the first thing that comes to mind. The Irish Dry variety is smooth and bittersweet with just the hint of coffee. Guinness has fewer calories than a Budweiser, but people think it is a heavy beer. It is not. Brainmuffin finally reviews a beer that is older than America.

Unfortunately, Ciara O'Doherty was too busy trying strong American shots to join Brainmuffin for this review. She's quite the lover of alcohol though on the Try channel.

A fan of Top Gear or the Grand Tour will know that Jezza (Jeremy Clarkson) talks about the "sweet baby Jesus" from time to time, though not often in reference to a beer. This ale from DuClaw Brewing is named for the expression one will utter when imbibing. This one is that good and should not be missed. Even Brainmuffin gives it a favorable review.
