This morning in devotions I read how Jesus led His disciples as far as Bethany before His Ascension. I lingered over the part about the town of Bethany. The name means, "House of Affliction," or "House of Misery," or "House of Affliction." In Aramaic it simply means, "Poor."
Jesus spent a lot of His time in that town, as well as in the home of Mary, Martha and Lazarus. I think it was really the only home "away from Home" that He found comfort and rest in. He loved these three people very much.
Bethany was a place were many powerful miracles were performed. It speaks of what mattered, rather who mattered most to Jesus. The poorest of the poor, the sickest of the sick, the affliction of the afflicted. The tormented. He loved them.
It was there He parted from them. Forty days later they would see Him ascend into heaven, "a cloud received Him out of their sight. The parting in Luke between His disciples, and the Ascension before them in the book of Acts made it possible for them to receive power from on high. He went to be enthroned on the right hand of God. Where "He upholds all things by the word of His power."
"And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
The Ascension as an end; the Ascension as a beginning; the Ascension as the pledge of the return is no metaphor, it is reality. HE IS COMING AGAIN....

I was reading a comment yesterday from a young person who said, "Humility and meekness is hard to practice." This was my response.
"Always remember, Jesus carries no whip, but is gentle, kind and very patient. Does a tree grow up to the heights of heaven overnight? No, it weathers storms and all kinds of blasts of things, and fair sunny days in between and rains from heaven.
Your character takes time to build and reshape. God wants you to know that in this growing all your life, there is joy. Humility and meekness grow very slowly, and Christ is the Overseer by His Holy Spirit who is always kind. It is not hard, it is easy.
Just keep your eyes on the Lord, not on your performance, but in love to Him. Then those seemingly hard things become easy. If you are met with hardness in a thing, then ask the Lord for grace in it.
Offer it up to Him and you will see how fast He will take it. Really it is only one thing at a time. And be careful not to hold yourself over the flames for every minute thing you think you have failed in.
Babies learn by falling and rising again, they learn to run by falling down and getting up again. Babies are pure and innocent. You are a child of the House of Faith and you are dearly beloved by our Father. Shalom to you in His patient love."

Over the past few months my heart has been moving in the Lord. His calling me to come up higher. The stirring within has only increased. I have been speaking to Him about absolute surrender. The Initiator has been the Lord. I am aware the source is of Him and not me.
There has been a strange kind of separation happening from within. It is hard to put it into words. A departure more and more from this world. I believe I am not alone. Heaven seems to be drawing nearer and the earth receding.
Many are feeling the call to lose their life in Christ that they may find it ONLY in Him. But they are afraid because of the enemy taunting them with fearful threats of attacks, and fiery darts of accusations.
I love this quote from an old saint now home with the Lord:
"What are you afraid of? Of leaving that which will soon leave you? What are you afraid of? Of following too much goodness, finding a too-loving God, of being drawn by an attraction that is stronger than self or the charms of this poor world? What are you afraid of? Of becoming too humble, too detached, too pure, too true, too reasonable, too grateful to your Father who is in heaven?
I implore you, be afraid of nothing so much as of this false fear - this foolish, worldly wisdom that hesitates between God and self, between vice and virtue, between gratitude and ingratitude, between life and death."
Do not be afraid. Answer the call. Take up your cross, and like the disciples, they forsook all and followed Jesus Christ. They never looked back and neither will you.
Only the best will happen to you and for you when you enter into absolute surrender. He will take care of you and your children.

For many decades there has been a very deep longing I have had. This deep longing has brought me much sorrow. I get a little bit better year after year, but still, that sorrow wells up within me. It seems that when it does, it is as painful as ever and tears flow.
This morning I was reading about Mary when she Simeon spoke to her about her eight day old Son Jesus: "...Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."
I thought about that "sword" that had to do with her Son. She did not get good news, but rather sorrowful news. Several months before she had called herself "Blessed among women." And, "behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed." I thought about her entire life, and then the light sprung in from above.
I began to see that her life in a sense was the very picture of the born again life. She gave birth to her Son, and by Him we have the new birth. We confess we are "Blessed among people." However, as time marches on, the fears, doubts and dreads come upon us. We even doubt our salvation at times, as I am sure she had doubts about His mission. That sword was piercing her heart from that very day Simeon told her a "sword would pierce her own soul."
Mary's sorrow is compared vividly to a sword passing through her soul. Yet the soul is not the heart which is put in antithesis to the spirit. The "hearts of many" were agitated with so many thoughts, but the soul of Mary only experienced the sword. Then came the cross. We know she stood by it the whole while.
And after the cross and the Resurrection, silence. We know she died saved and in joy. I knew that the Lord spoke to me when I thought how she stood there. I saw those words in my spirit, "Stand by the Cross." Peace washed over me. Stand by the Cross no matter what longings have bypassed you. What Mary could not have here on earth, she has now in heaven. Stand by the Cross. Stand by by Christ!

Have you ever been mocked for your faith? If you have then you know how disarming it is, and how it stuns you. It is one of Satan's sharpest weapons against the faithful in Christ. It is meant to shame you into retreat. It does not stop there. The enemy goes onward crushing you down for days. Mocking is always empowered by evil spirits and sin within people.
The person who is mocked goes away wounded. It is really a thing of rejection. So it strikes at the core of the person. It is soul-wounding. It is meant to chase the believer off the battlefield and never to return. Once that believer is mocked the enemy then overtakes them further by attacking their minds.
Overwhelming them by replaying that cutting moment over again and again. Those spirits go on attacking the believer's mind telling them they blew it. That they should never try again. That they really are not valuable to the Lord. They believe those lies and retreat into the what they think are the "safe shadows."
The spirit of mocking is a demonic weapon also meant to shut up the believer. The believer feels as they are going around with a lead-weight coat of shame. They feel they have let the Lord down.
This is not the case. In fact, Jesus was mocked more than anyone. Even on His cross the mockers mocked with utmost cruelty and He took that upon Himself too for you and me. People in the first century had "trials of cruel mocking." The writer of Hebrews said, "the world was not worthy of them."
Do not fear if you are being mocked. The Light that is shining in you and out of you is upsetting the powers of darkness in the people around you. At the same time, God is "putting a difference between those who serve Him and those who do not." Stand tall, and do not fear that weapon of mockery.
Be valiant and strong for the Lord. It is a sign that Christ is very much alive in you. It is really Satan mocking "Christ in you," and you are feeling it. I pray the Lord give you "hinds feet to get up upon His high places," and that you stand in power and glory with Him now and in the world to come.

Isaiah 53
1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?
2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
