The Ghan is one of the most iconic trains in Australia and travelling by rail on this train between Adelaide and Darwin is considered one of the worlds great train journeys. We had talked about doing it for some time but it was only when our cruise to the South Pacific in November 2020 got cancelled that we seriously started looking at it. There was the little matter of a milestone birthday to celebrate and if possible it was decided that it would be nice to mark the occasion with a memorable trip. This eventually led to a trip in February 2021. It was certainly memorable and we took a camera so we could share our experience with others.
The Ghan is named after the Afghan Camel riders who were the first to use the route through the outback. Today we have the opportunity to see the same vistas in comfort. At it's full length the train can be over 1 km long, however for our trip it was less than 800 m. There are a number of lounge and restaurant cars and there 2 different classes you can travel in, Gold and Platinum (there was previously a more budget class but that is no longer available). Along the way there are opportunities to visit Marla, Alice Springs and Katherine. The food is amazing, the staff are fantastic, the scenery is memorable and the trip is unforgettable.

Train collides with 18-wheeler in Texas
BREAKING! A train collided with an 18-wheeler outside Cameron, Texas, on Tuesday morning. The train, which was carrying oil tankers, exploded as a result of the crash, and authorities have labeled the crash a hazmat situation, according to the Cameron Police Department. Police first received communication about the crash around 6:45 a.m. CT and sent out mutual aid to first responders at the scene. Both the train conductor and truck driver survived the crash without major injuries, local news outlet KXXV reported. Milam County Sheriff Chris White will be sharing more information about the collision later this morning. Police are evacuating nearby houses and telling people in the area to avoid Highway 90.

This painting was commissioned by a client. It’s one of several abandoned train cars that can be found throughout Lambertville, NJ. I actually had to redo the path several times before I was satisfied with it. Once I got the colors right, it was a lot of fun bringing the puddle to life!

"That Hell-Bound Train" is a short supernatural story by Robert Bloch. It was originally published in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction in September 1958.
The creation of “That Hell-Bound Train” is a curious story. Originally shaped by William Tenn, who at the time had an editorial position at Fantasy and Science Fiction salvaging stories that had been selected by Anthony Boucher as "not quite good enough to be published, but still too good to have been rejected". From an interview in 2001, Tenn explained that the original version of "That Hell-Bound Train" had been "an absolutely fine piece of work that just didn't have a usable ending"; consequently, he devised a new ending "and persuaded Robert Bloch to write it".
"That Hell-Bound Train" won the Hugo Award for Best Short Story in 1959. “Comic Book Resources” has described it as "a classic deal-with-the-devil tale with a nice twist at the end". The story centers around Martin, a young hobo with a fondness for trains, considering whether to abandon crime when a strange train pulls up beside him on a desolate train track. The train conductor offers Martin anything he wants, in return for which he will "ride that Hell-Bound Train" when he dies.

Befu Railway Co., Ltd. is a company that used to do railway business in the south west of Hyogo Prefecture Japan. After withdrawing from the railway business in 1984, the company continued to operate as a taxi and chartered bus operator. Headquartered in Kakogawa City, Hyogo Prefecture. In the railway business, freight transportation was the main business, but passenger sales were also carried out. Due to the decrease in transport volume, it was not possible to maintain cargo transportation due to the revision of the Japan National Railway diamond in 1984, and all lines were abolished.
In January 2010, a part of the division became independent of the company, and the taxi business, dispatch business, and operation management business were transferred to Beppu Taxi. Since then, it has survived as a real estate management company and was scheduled to become a wholly owned subsidiary of Tochigi Chemical co., Ltd. on November 30, 2012, but it was canceled.
