Title: You Can Call Me Al
Artist: Paul Simon
Album: Graceland (1986)

====Lyrics====

A man walks down the street
He says "Why am I soft in the middle now?"
Why am I soft in the middle?
The rest of my life is so hard
I need a photo-opportunity
I want a shot at redemption
Don't want to end up a cartoon
In a cartoon graveyard
Bonedigger, Bonedigger
Dogs in the moonlight
Far away my well-lit door
Mr. Beerbelly, Beerbelly
Get these mutts away from me
You know, I don't find this stuff amusing anymore

If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty when you call me
You can call me Al

A man walks down the street
He says "Why am I short of attention?"
Got a short little span of attention
And, wow, my nights are so long
Where's my wife and family?
What if I die here?
Who'll be my role-model,
Now that my role-model is gone, gone?
He ducked back down the alley
With some roly-poly little bat-faced girl
All along, along
There were incidents and accidents
There were hints and allegations

If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty when you call me
You can call me Al
Call me Al

A man walks down the street
It's a street in a strange world
Maybe it's the Third World
Maybe it's his first time around
He doesn't speak the language
He holds no currency
He is a foreign man
He is surrounded by the sound, the sound
Cattle in the marketplace
Scatterlings and orphanages
He looks around, around
He sees angels in the architecture
Spinning in infinity
He says Amen! and Hallelujah!

If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty when you call me
You can call me Al
Call me Al

'The Shot' is a song off my 2021 indie art rock album A Shoo In For The Shut In Awards. The song is a worldbeat influenced neo psych indie rock song that lyrically takes on the poisonous Covid vaccine with the chorus refrain of 'don't get the shot, don't you get that shot/sorta like shootin' your own foot, you and your family go kaput/don't you get that shot, don't you get that shot no no no'.

A Shoo In For The Shut In Awards as a whole is a mix of redpilled conscious songwriting overtop of an eclectic mix of different types of indie (New Wave, Indie Rock, Neo Psych, Post Rock, Worldbeat, Neo Soul, and more). It was releasaed simultaneously with my other new album, the more experimental and darker Essential Travel (a mix of redpilled lyrics overtop industrial, avant-funk, art punk, post jazz, hiphop, post metal and other styles). Links to both down below.

About the artwork: Although it is a photo collage done by yours truly, many of the individual elements (the hand, the African background art) are NOT by me, I merely recontexualized them into something new. All credit to the original artists (not positive who all of them are) before I remixed them :)

Title: Mercy Street
Artist: Peter Gabriel
Album: So (1986)

====Lyrics====

Looking down on empty streets, all she can see
Are the dreams all made solid
Are the dreams all made real

All of the buildings, all of those cars
Were once just a dream
In somebody's head

She pictures the broken glass, she pictures the steam
She pictures a soul
With no leak at the seams

Let's take the boat out
Wait until darkness
Let's take the boat out
Wait until darkness comes

Nowhere in the corridors of pale green and grey
Nowhere in the suburbs
In the cold light of day

There in the midst of it so alive and alone
Words support like bone

Dreaming of mercy street
Wear your inside out
Dreaming of mercy
In your daddy's arms again
Dreaming of mercy street
'Swear they moved that sign
Dreaming of mercy
In your daddy's arms

Pulling out the papers from the drawers that slide smooth
Tugging at the darkness, word upon word

Confessing all the secret things in the warm velvet box
To the priest, he's the doctor
He can handle the shocks

Dreaming of the tenderness, the tremble in the hips
Of kissing Mary's lips

Dreaming of mercy street
Wear your insides out
Dreaming of mercy
In your daddy's arms again
Dreaming of mercy street
I 'swear they moved that sign
Looking for mercy
In your daddy's arms

Mercy, mercy, looking for mercy
Mercy, mercy, looking for mercy

Anne, with her father is out in the boat
Riding the water
Riding the waves on the sea
